We all see how influencers *seem * to have the perfect life, and we all compare ourselves and want what they have thinking they have it so good. Well, for today’s expert special, I brought on former influencer who is going to give us the low down of what social media is doing and why we don’t need to lust after it. Founder of global tech-free movement The Opt-Out Family, Erin Loechner is a former social media influencer who walked away from a million fans to live a low-tech lifestyle—and is now teaching others how to do the same. Her cutting-edge work has been praised in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the Huffington Post, as well as on the Today Show. When she’s not scrawling on her trusty steno pad, Erin, her husband, and their three kids spend their days chasing alpenglow, reading Kipling, and biking to town for more tortillas

We’ve heard a lot about the dangers of social media. And a lot of it is qualitative data. Anecdotal stories that really hit us in our feels. But I want to show you guys the real life stuff. And so I connected with a Physician in Canada who sees medically just how dangerous social media can be for young kids. So I brought her here on the show today! Dr. Alison Yeung is a practicing family physician from Ontario, Canada. She has been practicing for the past 11 years, and over that time has becoming increasingly aware of the mental health crisis facing children and teens. After speaking with patients, and examining the research, it’s become clear that social media and video games are causing a significant deterioration in their mental health. She is hoping to raise awareness about this topic by educating parents, and providing strategies to reduce the harm caused by these devices

So, the beauty industry is a feckled thing. While we want our kids to be presentable and take care of themselves, we also don’t want them to feel the crushing weight of the unrealistic standards that the beauty industry has set. So I brought on a bit of an expert in the matter. Everybody meet Dr. Sheilagh Maguiness. Dr. Sheilagh Maguiness is a board certified pediatric dermatologist with a busy academic practice in Minneapolis. She is mom to two tween boys and co-founder of Stryke Club. Dr. Maguiness is active in her National Society and is currently the President of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology.

The Hashey family was living a normal life. Joe was a high school teacher and business owner. Mell was a former social worker turned stay-at-home mom of three. Then 2020 happened and turned their family upside down. They found themselves giving up their “dream home” and moving 2,000 miles away to a town where they didn’t know anybody. It was the best thing that could have happened for their family Joe and Mell used their experience to build the Strong Family Co. framework that any family can use to establish values and stress free family leadership.

Today on the STK podcast we interview a wonderful panel of moms all about raising resilient kids in a tech heavy world. Go check them out!
ashlandee , @brookecanderson , @signature_designs_by_val , and @brookeromneywrites
Here were my big take aways
☝️ Technology is a tool just as much as it is dangerous. We need to proactively TEACH our kids how to use it responsibly and NOT use scare tactics and "because I told you" parenting. Tech isn't going anywhere. We need to teach our kids how to use it the right way. Instead of just trying to protect our kids we need to teach our kids how to protect themselves.
✌️ There is no "one size fits all". There's going to be a lot of trial and error. Mostly error. And you're going to have to have lots of conversations with your family to find what works for your family. But we can't let that deter us from fighting the good fight. It is possible to raise resilient kids in this Tech every world.

Here at STK we’ve been educating parents, students, and educators about the dangers of social media for years. And it’s been so cool to recently see a lot of state governments join the cause to help protect our children. One of the states leading the charge against social media is our very own Utah! Utah recently started a initiative ad campaign to help educate parents about the dangers of social media. Once I saw what was happening, I knew I needed to get someone from the governers office on the podcast to talk about this initiave, and boy did they come through! Everybody welcome

· Jason Clawson, CMHC - Founder of The Hope Kit & Pretherapy Kit. A parent, therapist, and innovator, Jason Clawson, CMHC, has dedicated his life to breaking down barriers in mental wellness. His experiences, both personal and professional, led him to create two ground-breaking solutions: The Hope Kit and the Pretherapy Kit. When faced with his son's school suspension and an 8-10 week therapy wait, Jason knew he had to act. The Hope Kit was his first creation, designed to offer immediate support and guidance to individuals and families in distress. Not stopping there, Jason's vision expanded to the Pretherapy Kit. Recognizing the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany the first steps into therapy, he developed this unique training program to turn waiting lists into a stepping stone for healing. It's designed to prepare individuals for therapy with humor, engagement, and understanding. Both the Hope Kit and the Pretherapy Kit symbolize Jason's passion for making mental health support accessible and engaging. By offering these innovative tools, Jason Clawson is redefining therapy, bridging gaps, and making mental wellness a reality for more people.

I got here with me today, Sarah Adams of mom uncharted. She has been exploring the state of parental public oversharing, child exploitation, and minor safety on social media since the summer of 2021. Using children and their real lives as entertainment for strangers on the internet has somehow become normal, and she would like everyone to consider a new normal. One that prioritizes a child's right to privacy, informed consent, critical thinking, and safety online over a parent's desire for online fame. Her goal has always been to pose questions, offer a different perspective, and provide information as it relates to these topics, encouraging parents to reflect on their own sharing choices and the accounts they consume that exploit "kids as content." Additionally, she is a married mother of two (both under the age of 5) who has a terrible sweet tooth and enjoys traveling.

Today we are bringing on our very own STK member Brea Quin on the show! STK is so much more than one speaker or podcast host. We are a whole team and it's high time you get to meet all of us!
Brea is a mom of two from a small town in Northern Utah. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion with an emphasis in child development and education from Weber State University. She has been with Save the Kids since 2021.
Brea’s passion for the Save the Kids movement grew as she followed Collin Kartchner over the years and became solidified after she had her first child and was able to start implementing everything he was teaching. She has worked with kids in different areas over the years and has seen, both on large and small scales, how early introduction to tech, social media, and pornography affects childhood. Because of this, Brea has become dedicated to helping families nurture their relationships, turn off the screens, and #StopGivingKidsSmartphones, and has been working hard to create content and posts for Save the Kids to keep this message going.

We are always talking about boundaries for our kids, and not being addicted to our phones…and today I have brought in someone who is living it. Everyone welcome Steve Von to the show! Steve and I know each other from church! We live near each other and I can’t even remember what it was, but I found your old Instagram and low and behold he had a lot of followers! He was like…a serious influencer! But he left it all and even refers to himself and his family as recovering influencers.

A few parents have asked me a question that I think is valid, and it is one that I don’t think we talk about enough on here. They asked me “what is the conversation going to look like when our kids are ready to have smart phones”? And I thought that was valid. We talk all the time about delay delay delay, but EVENTUALLY our kids are going to grow up and have a smartphone of their own. So what is that conversation going to look like? And how can we prepare them for that moment? Well, THAT is what we are diving into!

Elliot Kallen, is the the President and Founder of A Brighter Day Charity. Seven years ago, his son Jake, a sophomore at the University of Montana, walked up the highway and jumped in front of an oncoming truck, taking his life. In his suicide note, he wrote that he would have never told his family how he felt or taken their help. They were devastated and shocked and have since learned that thousands of families had the same experience. None of his friends, family, or his coaches knew that he was struggling with depression. In honor of Jake, they began this charity six years ago by creating resources for teens and parents on stress and depression to stop teen suicide. We have now grown to become a charity that has impacted tens of thousands of families.

Is your son/daughter playing video games a bit too much? Have you noticed changes in their attitude and behavior? Are you worried about what video games are doing to their developing brains and the impact that will have on their mental health and overall success in life? According to Newzoo, gamers worldwide are expected to spend nearly $160 billion in 2020 on video games. Let that number sink in.
Kids are becoming so addicted to video games today they are hurting family members or themselves when the games are taken away. I get texts from ER docs saying kids as young as 10 attempted suicide simply because mom took away Fortnite. We lost a 6th grader in the neighboring city to suicide last year because mom took the X-box away. These are NOT just forms of entertainment, and kids are NOT wired to regulate and slow down their gaming time. And the gaming industry is taking full advantage of this making billions. Parents need to be their kids' brakes, but maybe it's time to get really consider getting your kids away from these games for good.
Today's episode I interview a pediatric neurologist Dr. John Condie to give us some serious wake-the-bleep-up information on what these videos games are doing to kids, why they're doing what they do to kids, and why it's way past time to break your kids free from the merciless clutches of that dang X-Box/PS4/DS.
This is one of the most eye-opening interviews I have conducted on the podcast yet, something every parent and teenager should listen to.
Now excuse me while I go scream into a pillow. #savethekids #ditchthevideogames

(TV commercial voice): Do you suffer from NMK Disease? Do you say things like "Oh... Not MY Kid" or "Not My School" or "Not MY neighborhood" or "I trust my kid" or "My kid would never do that"? Well for those suffering with NMK, there's hope, and today I talk with long-time educator and New York resident Ronna Glickman for insight on how to be cured of NMK. Side affects include delusional parenting, lack of boundary setting, over-trusting your tween/teen, bloviating on Facebook that your kids are perfect and would never mess up to the cringe eye-rolling of all your friends, and halitosis. If you or someone you love suffers from NMK Disorder, run them to a Collin Kartchner speech asap. You may save a life.

I talk a lot about child and teen anxiety and how to help your kids not just manage the stresses of childhood/teen years but thrive through them… but what about us parents? Parenting is hard, stressful, and easy to feel like giving up some days. Parents who can’t keep it together raise kids who can’t keep it together, and today my guest Caris Snider and I talk about managing the stresses of parenting today and how to be more emotionally available and be a source of calm and grounded support for your kids. Caris is the author of the book “Anxiety Elephants”, a mother of 2, based in Alabama. Oh and my wife gobbled Caris’ book up and said it was amazing help for her mental health.
Check her out at www.CarisSnider.com and you can order “Anxiety Elephants” on Amazon or anywhere you get your books.
P.S. Turn off the news, turn off Facebook, unfollow everyone on social media that makes you feel bad/inadequate/the world is going to end.

“Only boys struggle with porn.”
“Girls only care about social media not porn.”
“This is just a guy issue.”
Dwight Schrute voice
FALSE.
Countless times I have read messages from tween/teen girls saying “Collin, I’ve been struggling with pornography for ______ time and it’s eating me up inside, I feel horrible because porn is a guy issue, and I’m a girl, so what’s wrong with me?” Gah. Nothing is wrong with you. By some expert estimates 90+ of boys will have some struggle with pornography as a teenager and 70%+ of girls will too. Guess what parents, girls are escaping to porn for the same reasons boys are. Today my guest is a very brave teenager name Ashlee who shares her story of how she was exposed to porn simply by a book her mom had on the shelf that was a how-to-talk-to-your-kids-about-porn. After mom gave her an iPhone, it was all downhill from there. Not until just a few months ago, Ashlee lived a 2nd life hiding this dark secret from everyone in her life, but now, after finally telling a trusted friend about her struggle, she’s on the road to freedom. Since recording this episode I have had Ashlee join me speaking to 1000’s of people (virtually) with so may teenage girls sharing afterwards how her story changed their lives—inspiring so many of them to open up about their own porn struggle and being the healing process. This interview is pretty awesome, a must listen for parents of girls no matter the age, and for any girl struggling with pornography to hear you're not alone, and there's a way out.
You can watch Ashlee tell her story to 1000's at utahcoalition.org or send her a message @ashleeayre on Instagram

Question I get a lot is "What do I do about my older teens who I gave a smart phone to years ago, they've been on Snapchat/IG since 11, I know it hurt their mental health so much, but I'm afraid to just take it all away. How do I go about putting the lion back into the cage?" Many times this issue has affected not just your teen negatively, but your entire family and your relationship with your son/daughter. Sure it's always easier to have just NOT given them this tech, so what do you do to unring the bell? My guest today is Andrea Davis, former educator and founder of Better Screen Time. She shares some sound and solid tips for parents of older teens looking to get their teenagers back, or better prepare them to successfully manage their tech as they get ready to become an adult.
Andrea created several amazing video courses for parents, if you're struggling with managing your kids tech use, want to reconnect with your teens and end the constant battle, go download her course ASAP. Joe Dennis, LCMHC, is back in studio today with his new J's for one of my favorite conversations thus far on The Collin Kartchner Podcast. We discuss 9/11, how hate is not a mental illness, the despicable things TikTok does to create trauma bonding among young users, how teen mental health issues are caused in part by decision fatigue, self-determination theory, and the struggles with this new generation of young adults finding authentic identity. This episode isn't like any thus far, and Joe drops so much wisdom on issues not discussed yet on this podcast-- hope you enjoy, and share it with your struggling college-age kids too.

My guest today is the founder of Protect Young Eyes and father of 4, Chris McKenna. We talk about what's happening to an entire generation of children/teens/young people right under our noses, and what parents need to do to save their kids' childhoods. Chris was in a recent documentary called "Childhood 2.0" which you can, and must, watch. (It's FREE btw) A 100% accurate depiction of what tech/gaming/social media/smart phone companies have been doing to this generation of kids and how it's changing the definition of childhood for millions-- and what this will lead to if we don't change things NOW.
Chris is a long-time advocate and fighter for kids and families-- we worked together in bringing legislation (google The Earn It Act) to the federal government to FIX APP RATINGS which would create a 3rd party independent rating board for social media apps and mobile games. If TikTok and Snapchat are willfully letting obscene, adult content on their apps, why are they then rated 12+??
Until the world wakes up, Chris and I and others will keep shouting til the vocal chords finally give up. Don't forget to download upcoming PYE App for parents.
For parents of kids' doing online schooling with Chromebooks please thoroughly read Chris's article on locking down that tech safely HERE***.

This episode I have the honor of interviewing Elizabeth Frazier founder of Hero Bands. Elizabeth was sex trafficked by family members in Utah from age 4-23, all under the guise of a happy Utah family with good parents. A nightmare in ever sense of the word, Elizabeth broke free and now a mom of 5 kids, she shares her story to educate others and raise awareness to this epidemic too many think only occurs in dark places far across the world. This all was happening in an affluent Utah community. Elizabeth started Hero Bands to provide encouragement and hope, as well as help end child sex trafficking.
Reminder that social media apps are the #1 tool predators use to groom, lure, and then eventually sex traffic kids. The most dangerous place for a child is not a dark alley at 3am, but on a smart phone in their bedroom at night without vigilant parents.

Elizabeth "Biz" is one of my favorite zoomers on the planet. She's hilariously honest, loving and real -- she works at Starbucks, loves her tattoos and Baby Yoda doll, and is a self-described TikTok addict. She grew up in the affluent Daybreak community, a place where every family seems perfect. But Biz's childhood was far from perfect, which led to some major heartaches no child should have to go through. (This is a story of how NOT to handle a divorce for sake of your kids.) After her parents divorce, she was molested by step siblings, and then exposed to porn all before age 9, and by 8th grade she was pregnant. Faced with the fact that she was now forced to be an adult at 13, life threw decisions at her most people would not have to make til much older. Now 21, going through the same struggles so many GenZ'er go through as smartphone/social media guinea pigs, Biz is in a healthy and happy relationship and hoping her story can help parents see how important it is to be actively engaged in their kids' lives. And an amazing teen pregnancy story for anyone out there facing a decision whether to keep their baby or place for adoption.
Listener Warning: this episode is for adults/parents only. Topics discussed include child molestation, pornography and teen pregnancy.

Smith is what I think ever parent hopes their 16yr-old boy can be at this age. He is the happiest, smiliest, nicest person full of light and energy and joy--it's infectious. You cannot be around him and not feel better about life. He loves his parents, his sisters are his best friends, he fixes up cars with his dad and plays lacrosse. But it wasn't always this way for Smith. At 9 years old on an iPad his parents thought was locked down, Smith found pornography, and quickly became hooked. It took over his childhood, it hurt his self-esteem, it changed his attitude towards his family and life. Porn became his dark secret and took over his tween and early teen years, until at 14 the best thing happened to him: "I got caught." It was then that the healing could begin, and now just 2 years later, Smith is who he was born to be. Listen as we talk about his story, how he was able to kick this struggle so many teenagers struggle with today, and how Smith now goes to homes and shares his story as a presentation to families--afterwards he even walks parents through how to set up the best parental controls to keep your kids safe on their devices. I thought his presentation was so great, I had him come by the studio last week to film it, which we will be making available to parents everywhere soon. If you live in Utah/Davis/SL counties, you can have Smith come to your home and share his presentation with your family, then sit side by side and teach you how to lock down their devices to protect them from all the bad stuff the internet is anxious to get into your kids' faces. Too many kids today are fighting the billion dollar porn industry all on their own, and it's time to empower kids to fight this battle. But it all starts with good parenting.

My guest today is Michelle Pine, an occupational therapist who works with kids age 1-5. She and her entire community of OT's have seen alarming trends in kids struggling, and screen-time is one of the leading culprits. Verbal delays, cognitive delays, emotional delays, all of these have been rising at rates that should sound alarms. We discuss what is happening from little kids being in constant states of overstimulation (yes, even ABC Mouse and "learning" games) and what is happening when kids are being raised by iPads. Did you know there's a new-ish term in their field called "Virtual Autism"?
There's a reason why Steve Jobs, inventor of the iPad, would not let his own children use iPads. Same reason why so many Silicon Valley tech executives send their children to no-tech, screen-free schools. The people who make these devices know the damage they're causing. Hooray for personal ethics :(
If you're a parent with young kids this is a must listen. If you're planning on having kids one day, listen up. If you're a teenager who will have kids in the future, learn now and save your kids from this mess.

Today's episode I had mom Tiffany and her high school son Ethan in the studio-- Tiffany is a teen therapist and Ethan recent high school grad. We talk about raising teenagers in today's world from mom/therapist's side as well as son/Ethan's side. Such a great dialogue about creating real connections with your teenagers, what it's like to be a teenage boy today, and how to build strong men. As Francis Douglas said, "It's easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."

Few weeks ago, I got a message from this awesome, recently graduated 18yr-old high schooler named Jack. He told me his story, which is something happening to pretty much every high schooler/teenager today regarding social media/gaming/etc., and how he had an INCREDIBLE awakening. He now travels the country speaking to youth groups and schools about how as a young teen he got hooked to technology and screens, how he broke the trance, and how need to fix the internet for the sake of the kids. In 2020 Jack was named a US Presidential Scholar, the highest academic honor bestowed by the US Secretary of Education. He recently started an organization called "Detach Now" and just authored his first book entitled "Acquired Connection". Did I mention...he's EIGHTEEN.
One of the most smart, well-spoken teenagers I have come across, Jack and I talk about some fun & seriously eye-opening stuff. This dude is like a young Jaron Lanier/Tristan Harris/Socrates.
You can follow his work and/or donate to his cause (or donate a car) at www.DetachNow.com and while you are at it, go get a copy of his book HERE.

After sharing this week stories of families doing a screen-detox with their kids and the amazing results they saw, I got bombarded with messages asking for help on HOW to do a detox. I reached out to my friend Melanie Hempe, founder of Screen Strong in North Carolina, to discuss why and how to do a screen-detox for your kids. Melanie spent 8 years researching the science of screen-time, especially video games, after watching her oldest son become severely addicted video games. It's a story happening in many homes, to parents who never thought they'd let it happen to their own kids. It's never too late, and it's not as hard as it sounds. My own family went screen-free 2.5 years ago and, like every parent I meet that did the same thing, it was the best decision ever. Listen to Melanie's story of her son Adam, what she's learned helping 100's of families break the screen addiction, and how to start with a 7-day detox for your kids which will hopefully roll into a 30-day detox and happier, more connected families. Get ready to be a family again, and to see your kids' creativity soar and the light come back into their eyes.

Mary & Ryan Thorne are dear friends who live in Gilbert, AZ, with 3 boys Dallas, Dylan, and Jax. She confided in us back then that her boys were all struggling with behavioral & focus issues, and didn't make the connection that maybe the screen-time/video games were the culprit. Sitting in the car with her husband, both in tears, as they just left a meeting with their pediatrician saying "If lose your son to video games, you will NEVER get him back" they knew they needed to do something different. They found an a amazing pediatrician who told them if they lost their boys to screens or video games, they would never get them back. The Thorne's then decided to throw out the iPads & video games, and you HAVE to listen to this story to see what happened next. Even their doctors and kids' school teachers said it was all miraculous.

I had 3 amazing women from the nearby city of Spanish Fork, UT, come on my podcast to share about the QPR training (Question, Persuade, Refer) developed to help decrease the rates of teen suicide in their city. One of my guests is a 911-dispatcher, one is Susan who helped spearhead this whole initiative, and one a mother who tragically lost her son to suicide at 14 who now shares her story with parents. The goal is not to just talk about the issues of rising teen suicide, but show how these types of trainings can be created in each city by just a few caring people, backed by local leaders and families, to create a stronger village. We need these programs duplicated in every city.

So last week I went undercover, set up a fake profile, said I was a 12yr-old girl, and uncovered a huge issue on Instagram: pedophile and child prn accounts all over the place. Easy to find, easy to gain access to, most of these accounts have 1000,'s of people following them, sharing images and videos of kids. Accounts with names like "Love_CP" or "Little_Candy" or "Pizza...something". Pedophiles sharing links to child prn on their Instagram accounts, trading pics like baseball cards. Report them, and Instagram says "This account doesn't go against our community standards." What? Social media platforms like Instagram need to do a better job making their platform a safe place where children aren't being sexually exploited and abused. Facebook/IG boasts they hire the brightest minds in the world, they can addict 2B people to their platforms, give advertisers the most minutia of data on every single human, but they can't fix this issue? This episode I tell the whole story, and share insight on how child prnographers are using Instagram to perpetuate the creation and demand of child prnography, including what I think needs to change for our society to start caring more about kids. Until then, Instagram/Facebook/TikTok/Snapchat... get these out of your kids hands for good. #savethekids

Did you know the average age kids are exposed to pornography is around age 7-8? That means as parents you need to start talking about it, in the right terms, around age 3-4. No fear... there's help. Kristen Jenson is the author of 2 best-selling books called "Good Pictures, Bad Pictures" one for young kids and one for pre-teens. We bought this book years ago and read/keep reading it with our kids. As much as we'd love to make sure our kids aren't exposed to this evil, its inevitable, and NOT talking about just leads kids curiosity to search it out themselves or worse, have a friend/neighbor/cousin expose them. Now that 47% of the entire internet is porn, and we have to worry about less-vigilant (clueless?) neighbors/friends' parents, kids need to be equipped with tools to successfully manage this when not under our roof. Kristen runs www.ProtectYoungMinds.org and you can/need to buy her books on Amazon or anywhere books are sold.

Detective Kelly Zierse is a detective for the Internet Crimes Against Children department, a job I don't think most people could handle. Prior to this he was the school resource officer at a large high school for 7 years, and saw all the effects that smart phones had on teenagers. Bullying, sex crimes, weapon offenses, drug deals on Snapchat, threats of violence, the list goes on. Sex traffickers disguised as "Sugar Daddies" looking to give your daughter money? Check. Moms finding out their church-going daughter is selling nudes on Snapchat? Check. This episode I share how pedophiles use social media to sexually exploit children, how Snapchat is still the reigning champ for worst app ever made, how TikTok is a total disaster, and how parents must start parenting again because tech companies are too busy making money to care. Want to help ensure your kids will not be another statistic? Stop giving them smart phones and social media until Silicon Valley is held accountable.

If I, as part of the human race, don't do anything and everything I personally can do to slow the spread of a virus, so kids will be able to be back in school and doing online school at home, alone, on a laptop with access to the internet, where pedophiles and sexual predators are hunting them, then shame on me. I wear a mask for those kids.

One of the biggest mental health disasters created when we gave our kids access to social media was the onslaught of cyber-bullying. And when parents ask me, "Why are kids so mean to each other today?" I quickly point out "Kids? Have you been on adult Facebook lately?" We can't expect our kids to be kind, understanding, empathetic humans when that isn't be modeled for them by adults online and off. But dealing with bullies is both an art and science and my guest today started a mission to eradicate bullying by empowering the bullied so the bullies lose their power. Nate Webb is a high school counselor who like many of us was bullied growing up pre-Snapchat days, now working on a high school campus, who decided to better understand why bullying exists and made it his mission to help kids rise above.
As we see what happens to an entire generation learning to communicate with other humans from behind the safety of a screen and a fake Instagram account, robbing kids of learning empathy, just another reason to delay giving your kids access to social media as long as possible.

Today's episode I'm talking with a dad named Chad and his 16yr-old daughter McKinley down in Orange County California. Chad runs a very successful/busy financial firm Pacific Capital while also being the city treasurer, and still somehow manages to be an engaging and present father to his 5 kids. McKinley, a bright and successful soon-to-be-Junior who at 16 is thriving in academics, sports, and with friends, all while being smart-phone & social media free. I asked them both to come chat about how they've created this awesome relationship when so many other dads/daughters at this stage struggle. In a culture where the non-stop work grind to exhaustion is a symbol of affluence, the accumulation of more wealth, status, and stuff at the expense of our family relationships is suffocating our society, too many kids' emotional needs are being shoved aside for all the wrong reasons. This episode offers advice for parents who feel they've fallen into these traps and how to reprioritize and reconnect with the people who really matter.

As a dad of 4 kids, one of my biggest goals is that they all believe in themselves. Self confidence and self-esteem is something I see this younger generation struggling with, when they are the brightest, most capable group of kids we've ever seen. Today's guest is Ceri Payen, M.Ed, is an expert on teaching confidence and helping raise kids who have a healthy amount of self-esteem to shine in this world.
Today's episode is with Brooke Romney. Brooke is a mom of teenage boys, an educator, author, speaker, she has written for the Washington Post and other major media outlets. Today we're talking about parenting teenagers with tips on how to handle when they're not perfect (gasp) and more. Also Brooke, with me, are huge proponents of getting smart phones out of kids hands' during school--she's written much about the negative aspects of smart phones on elementary/middle school campuses and what parents can do to work with their school administrators to create healthy cell phone policies. This episode we dive into steps parents can take do do this the right way.

If you're a father or a parent, I can't think of anything more devastating than losing your child. I met Jason in San Diego 18 months ago when he introduced me at a speech and told me his story. A successful businessman man, CEO of several companies, a problem solver who said he missed the signs of his awesome 14yr-old's depression, self-harm, and now in on a crusade to educate the masses. He started ChooseLife.org a non-profit helping raise awareness of teen suicide, helping parents see the signs and reconnect with their kids. Jason's documentary "Tell My Story" is coming out soon and is a must watch. He came with his film crew to a speech I gave in Lake Tahoe to 1000 Boy Scouts, we talked by the campfire after and cried together.

OCD. Whenever you hear about OCD your mind goes to people like Bob Wiley hyperventilating on a bus with a goldfish in a mason jar around his neck. TBH, that's what I thought OCD was. That's why I was so happy to have my guest today.
Today's guest is Tia Wilson, a 21-year old bright college student who suffered from OCD since age 4. And finally just over a year ago she figured out she "wasn't just weird", she had a real disorder. Tia recently completed a 4-month of OCD outpatient treatment and taught me all about all the forms of OCD, what parents need to know, easily one of my favorite interviews I've done yet. We dive into her story and I will tell you this, every parent needs to hear this and your teenagers as well.
Tia is now an OCD advocate and therapist in training, she shares amazing stuff about OCD and her journey and free info for teens on her Instagram @tortillawilson.
Second episode of Teen Talk is here and we had some serious fun. This time it's with recently graduated from high school student body president Riley and her neighbor (she calls her "little sister") Mia who will be entering 9th grade. Riley and Mia talk with me about life as a teenage girl today, dealing with school, boys, anxiety, parents, and a bunch of other stuff good for parents to listen to and teenage girls.
What is the secret to happiness? Is it finding someone who loves you and never letting go? Blowing up the chalet of your enemies as you jetski away from the explosion? Microwaving a donut? I have no idea. But here's one tip I've done for the last 2 years that has helped me in 6 different ways, and it's sooooo easy. And fun. Get ready for a bunch of "Hey, did I offend you??" texts. It's time for some major spring cleaning. Do it for your sanity.

Joshua Luke Smith (@joshualukesmith) is an artist based in Bath, England, UK, who recently shared a powerful video of his relationship with Prn as a teenager and twenty-something, and how he broke up with this toxic ex. The video got 10k's of views instantly and I asked him to have a chat about it all. How he describes what prn does on an emotional level to you is something I have never heard and impacted me in a powerful way. This is a must listen for parents and teenagers.

Yesterday my oldest daughter turned 14. She's happy, kind, loving, thriving, and she has never had a phone or any social media. Every one of her friends does, and people ask us how we do it, and how she still manages to have a solid friend group and thrive in school. On this episode I explain why, and how we did it, and why you should join us.

Anxiety.
Pew Research 2019 showed 70% of 1000 teens polled cited the number one issue they face is anxiety & depression. What is anxiety? What causes it? How do we deal with it? What is the difference between stress, worry, fear, and anxiety? Most importantly, how do parents help their kids be solid. Jeff Gregson, CMCH, is our state's leading voice in anxiety and has been in private practice for 20+ years helping teens. He teaches us what anxiety is, the best ways to attack it, how to use it as a super-power, and most importantly gives steps parents can implement into their parenting to help raise fire-breathing kids.
Jeff hosts a monthly almost-free webinar you can and should sign up for at www.AllThingsAnxiety.com or follow him on Instagram @all.things.anxiety

It's everywhere. Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Pinterest, mobile games, and with parents giving kids smart devices younger and younger, it's not a matter of if your kid will be exposed to porn, but when. Today's podcast I interview 18 year old Luke Petrey as he bravely shared his years-long battle with pornography, and how through the help of friends, parents, and God he overcame his addiction. This is a must listen for any parent raising kids in a Porn filled world, and would be huge for teenagers to listen to who are struggling with pornography.

Katey McPherson is a nationally recognized digital wellness consultant, speaker, author, and mother of 4 girls. After spending 23 years on a middle school or high school campus, and seeing the negative affects smart devices were having on students, Katey left public education to make a bigger impact on parents and school districts. I have spoke alongside Katey on more than a dozen occasions across the nation, and on today's podcast we talk about the state of our schools, how COVID-19 will change the face of public education as we know it, and tips for parents on how to keep kids mentally resilient during these times.

My interview with Stephen Dalby CEO/Founder of Gabb Wireless and Lance Black who created a cell network that has phones that are safe for kids. Combined these two founders have 14 kids of their own and created Gabb as a solution for parents who don't want to throw their kids into the smart phone/social media experiment. Smart phones and social media given to kids too young is leading to a mountain of problems but until now, there were no solutions for parents who wanted to get a hold of their kids without some sort o smart device or even worse, a flip phone. Gabb launched less than a year ago and already is being heralded by parents as "An answer to our prayers." Stop giving kids smart phones, get them a Gabb phone. Listen and you'll know why.
