Young Adult Pastor Gary Jones continues our Servants & Stewards series on Joseph.
Joseph did everything right: he worked hard, resisted temptation, and trusted God. Yet, in Genesis 40, he still ended up in a prison cell. Betrayed and forgotten. Yet in that darkness, God was not absent. He was preparing a man who would one day save nations.
And that's the hope for us, too. When faith feels pointless, or when prayers echo back empty, or when God seems quiet. The truth is, the pit isn't where God leaves you — it's where He shapes you. He refines your faith, teaches you to see others' pain, and proves He's still writing your story.
Even when you feel unseen… you are never forgotten.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues our Servants & Stewards series on Joseph.
Even when life unravels through betrayal, false accusation, and hardship, God's providence is at work — positioning Joseph (and us) exactly where He wants him. God is always with Joseph (and us), even in the darkest prison, and his integrity under temptation becomes the proving ground for future influence.
Through Joseph's faithfulness in the small things, we learn that every trial prepared him (and us) for a greater purpose. God's hand is sovereign, His presence constant, and His plan always good.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues our Servants & Stewards series on Joseph.
In Genesis 37, Joseph is betrayed by those who should have loved him the most. In this passage, we confront the pain of absent fathers, the poison of envy, and the cultural fractures that mirror our own families. Yet amid the injustice and loss, we discover a God who steps into our brokenness — a Father to the fatherless and the only firm foundation when everything else gives way.

Worship Director Justin Jackson continues our Servants & Stewards series, as we begin to look at the life of Joseph.
Has life ever taken you a completely different direction than where you intended to go? At times like that, it's difficult to see what God is up to. But Joseph's story is a powerful reminder that God is at work even when we can't see the whole picture. And even in the messy details of life, God is speaking to us, if we are willing to listen.

In a moment when our culture is fractured, politics are polarized, and comfort tempts us to live as if we don't need God, we're called back to our true identity: servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Drawing from Paul's words to the Corinthians, we're reminded that following Jesus isn't about grasping for power or influence — it's about picking up the oar, going low, and living faithfully in that tension. Let's embrace lives that may look like "the scum of the world" to others, yet carry eternal weight as we boldly, humbly, and sacrificially share the hope of the gospel — whatever it takes.

In a season of shifting rhythms and fresh opportunities, we're called to recognize this moment we're living in — culturally, spiritually, and personally.
Drawing from Ephesians 5 and Colossians 4, Pastor Josh reveals how God is moving in unprecedented ways in the US, with a new generation leading a spiritual revival. That's because the gospel directly answers the anxiety, division, and uncertainty of this cultural moment.
How will you make the best use of your time to step boldly into God's mission, right here, right now?

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen concludes our Ecclesiastes series and ministry year.
In this message, we look back on a year of God's work in our church and then walk through the rise and fall of Solomon. How is it that the wisest man who ever lived lost everything because he failed to guard his heart?
We'll see how God's repeated warnings, ancient commands, and deep desire for our undivided devotion apply directly to our lives today. Let's identify the subtle "other loves" that threaten to pull our hearts away, and make a clear, intentional plan to keep our hearts wholly His.

Associate Pastor Ron King concludes our Ecclesiastes series.
It's been said that our modern age has been diagnosed with the word disenchanted; our focus on the material has often robbed us of what is sacred. But after all of the wisdom Solomon has imparted in this book, his final words are actually a call to be re-enchanted with a childlike wonder and awe of God.
This call is summarized with two final commands: to remember your Creator, and to fear God and keep his commandments. These words are Solomon's remedy for cynicism and his secret for human wholeness.

Picture Solomon like a wise grandpa on a final drive, sharing his best advice before you step into life on your own. He reminds us that much in life is unknown — storms come, plans shift, and God's work is often hidden — but our call is to be generous, keep moving, and trust Him.
And in the end, his parting words are simple and powerful: rejoice. Enjoy life as the sweet gift it is, thank God for every moment, and don't let anxiety steal the joy He intends for you.

Chapter 10 feels like Solomon's unloading all the wisdom he forgot to mention. They're short, sharp one-liners about life, risk, relationships, and work.
But even the best advice has limits. Life under the sun can still fall apart, no matter how wisely we live. That's why the real hope isn't in flawless wisdom, but in the good news that God's love meets both the wise and the fool right where we are.

Guest speaker Caleb Hunt continues our Ecclesiastes series.
Have you ever had a friend who cuts through the noise to say exactly what you need to hear — not just what you want to hear? Today, Ecclesiastes plays that role, challenging us to face the one thing we'd rather ignore: death itself.
Death is the great equalizer, reminding us that everything under the sun — our careers, legacies, and even wisdom — has limits. Yet, instead of despair, Ecclesiastes helps us see how confronting death head-on points us to genuine hope and purpose, found only when we invest in what lasts beyond the sun: God, His Word, and each other.

Worship Director Justin Jackson continues our Ecclesiastes series.
Chapter 8 wrestles with why wicked people seem to thrive, how we're supposed to live under flawed authority, and what to do when life just doesn't make sense.
But through it all, Solomon shows us something surprisingly hopeful: it will be well with those who fear God — not because we'll have the answers, but because we're trusting the One who does.
It's an honest look at why submission — real, deep, often uncomfortable submission — isn't weakness, but the path to peace.

What if the letdowns in life are actually beautiful invitations? Ecclesiastes 7 flips our expectations upside down, showing that mourning shapes us more than laughter, and legacy matters more than luxury.
We chase control, comfort, and clarity, but every human scheme eventually fails. And that's the gift. Because in surrendering our plans, we begin to trust the One who made us for more than life under the sun. This message is an honest, poetic, and deeply hopeful reminder that the best things for us may not be the easiest, but they're always eternal.

Have you ever found yourself chasing "just a little bit more" yet always feeling empty? Today, we're diving into wisdom from Solomon, the wealthiest man in history, who still struggled profoundly with satisfaction. In Ecclesiastes 5 and 6, Solomon exposes the truth that money itself never satisfies, we can't take our earthly treasures with us, and failing to find joy in God's gifts isn't just sad — it's spiritually corrosive.
But there's hope. God offers a different path where we express deep gratitude for what we have and invest our lives in what truly lasts. If you're ready to break free from the endless hamster wheel of dissatisfaction and step into a life of authentic contentment, God has something powerful for you today.

How we walk into God's presence matters. Too often, we rush in, distracted, busy, or burdened, offering words without weight and worship without reverence. But Ecclesiastes 5 calls us back: Guard your steps. Let your words be few. Fear God.
It's not about silence or perfection — it's about listening and posture. What if your Sunday started not with making noises but with awe? What if hearing from God became your deepest expectation?
Today, we're learning to show up differently and approach God with hearts ready to listen, vows we intend to keep, and reverence that shapes our worship.

We were made for friendship, but we're living through a friendship famine. In Ecclesiastes 4, Solomon reflects on a life filled with accomplishments but lacking deep connection. His words are hauntingly honest: without true friends, even success feels hollow.
In this message, we'll explore why friendship is so hard today, why it matters more than ever, and how the church can be a healing place to form lasting relationships. Whether you're surrounded by people or feeling painfully alone, this conversation might change the way you pursue community.

Solomon had it all — pleasure, progress, wealth, legacy — and still said, "I hated life." But in Ecclesiastes 3, he discovers something more profound: the secret to meaning isn't in chasing everything in every season. The secret is in embracing the season you're in.
In this message, we'll explore how to meet God right where you are: whether you're grieving or dancing, building or breaking, asking hard questions or simply holding on.
Real joy begins when we stop striving and start trusting.

Solomon had it all: wealth, wisdom, wine, women, and work. Yet he called it all hevel: vapor, mist, a striving after the wind. In Ecclesiastes 2, we meet a man who tried everything under the sun and still found himself empty.
But this isn't just ancient pessimism; it's a timeless invitation to stop grasping for satisfaction in things that can't fulfill you, and to start pursuing God, the only pursuit that lasts, the only One who gives true joy.
If you've ever asked, "What's the point?" — this is for you.

What if you could live out any fantasy you’ve ever imagined? Finally build the dream home you’ve always wanted, have all your earthly desires fulfilled whenever you desired them? Would you finally be happy? In this introduction to our new Summer Series, Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen introduces us to the author of the book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon, who actually got the life all of us dream of, and yet, as we read in the very first pages of his book, it wasn’t enough. Join us as we learn that though there truly is nothing new under the sun, Jesus invites us into something beyond the sun that brings true hope and satisfaction.
Will the life you're building truly stand the test of life's inevitable storms? As we conclude our journey through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, we're confronted with a powerful image: two houses, two builders, two outcomes.
Both people heard the same teaching and faced similar challenges, yet one stood firm while the other tragically collapsed.
The crucial difference is not merely hearing Jesus' words but choosing to build your life on them slowly, intentionally, and obediently. Let's dig deep beneath the surface, learning how to truly anchor ourselves to the Rock, Jesus Christ, so that when the winds rage and the floods rise, our lives remain unshaken.

Today, we have two messages as we continue our Sermon on the Mount series. Jimmy Cleary and Andy Rosse each unpack one of the most sobering passages in Scripture — Matthew 7:21-23 — revealing the uncomfortable truth that religious activity alone doesn't secure eternity.
We're challenged to examine our hearts honestly: Are we relying on empty religious activities, or do we have a daily habit of repentance and a genuine relationship with Christ? If you've ever felt uncertain about your standing with God or questioned whether your life reflects your beliefs, this message offers clarity and hope.

"A wolf in sheep's clothing" is someone who appears harmless but is inwardly destructive. Jesus warns us about false teachers who will come like this, and tells us to be on guard because the ways deception can creep into the truth are subtle.
This isn't just about identifying those who might lead us astray; it's a call to examine our own understanding of truth and the path we're choosing to walk. Thankfully, there is a practical way Jesus equips us to discern what's genuine.

There are moments in life when thinking about decisions isn't enough—when you have to choose. In Matthew 7, Jesus brings us to exactly that crossroads.
He presents us with two clear paths: a narrow gate opening to a hard road, leading to real life, or a wide gate leading down an easy road, ultimately ending in ruin. Faith in Jesus isn't just a one-time moment—it's also a continuous journey of choosing to follow Him, even when it's difficult. Today, Jesus asks us directly: "Are you in?"

When people are difficult, Jesus doesn't tell us to avoid them. He calls us to engage with wisdom, grace, and courage. In Matthew 7, we're called to judge without a judgmental heart, pray when we feel stuck, and then act, even when no clear answer comes.
And we're not just called to treat others fairly, but to treat them as we would want to be treated when we fall short. Thisisn't passive kindness; it's relentless love. The kind that pursues, initiates, and reflects the heart of God Himself. Who's God calling you to love like that this week?

Ask and you will receive. Is this too good to be true? It's easy to doubt that God is listening sometimes, especially during difficult times.
But when we really know God's heart, we will ask boldly for the good things that He has for us, because He desires to give good gifts to His children. When we trust in his goodness, we won't hesitate to bring our requests to Him, but will instead respond by earnestly seeking Him out.

We all judge—but Jesus invites us to think differently.
Not to ignore sin, but to approach others with mercy, humility, and clarity. In a world quick to condemn, Jesus shows a better way: start with your own heart, discern gently, and love deeply.
This Palm Sunday, as we remember Jesus weeping over a blind city, we're reminded—true judgment begins with compassion.
So the question isn't if we'll judge. It's how.

Similar to last week's topic of generosity, Jesus calls us to pray in secret. There are many ways we might subtly use prayer or spiritual practices to seek the approval of others, but ultimately this is a poor substitute for a genuine connection with God.
Prayer starts with God and ends with us. If we can follow the model of prayer that Jesus gives us, we will have a much greater reward, found in an intimate and vulnerable place of dependence on the God who loves us deeply.

Have you ever felt secretly thrilled when someone noticed you doing something good? You're quietly reading your Bible or helping someone out—deep down, you're glad someone saw it, even though you didn't intend it. For the last six weeks, we've heard Jesus tell us clearly: Live your life boldly so others see your good deeds and glorify God.
But in today's message, Jesus flips the script in his sermon. Suddenly, He says certain things should be hidden, lived quietly, away from public eyes. Why such a dramatic shift? Why does Jesus now tell us to live parts of our lives in secret—and what's at stake if we don't?
If you've ever wrestled with the desire to be seen versus the call to humble secrecy, this is for you.

Loving your enemy is a command that defies our natural instincts. In a world that teaches retaliation, Jesus offers a revolutionary path: selfless, unconditional love. But how? What does that look like when enemies take advantage of you, hurt you, and oppose what you believe?
In this final statement of six, Jesus confronts a big lie: that love is only for those who love us back. Instead, He calls us to a love so radical and countercultural that it makes people stop and ask, Why?
Today, we'll unpack what it truly means to love our enemies—not by ignoring justice, but by mirroring the love God first showed us.

Each service featured a different preacher preaching from the same text; all three are included here. You can use the timestamps in the description to jump to a different service, but if you have the time, I recommend listening to all three because each of them approaches Jesus' words with a slightly different lens and emphasis.
The text from today's sermons is Matthew 5:38-42, where Jesus addresses retaliation.
Revenge feels natural. It's what the world craves—what every blockbuster glorifies. But Jesus flips the script. In one of His most radical teachings, He challenges us to lay down our rights, to respond to insults with grace, and to answer unfairness with bold generosity.
Does turning the other cheek mean becoming a doormat? Is Jesus calling us to accept injustice? No. He's calling us to something far more powerful—to reclaim our dignity, to resist evil in a way that transforms hearts, and to trust in a justice far greater than our own.
Today, each preacher will unpack what Jesus really meant—and what He didn't—when He said, "Do not resist the one who is evil." It's not weakness. It's kingdom strength. And it changes everything.

Associate Pastor Ron King continues our Sermon on the Mount series.
What if we lived in a world where transparent honesty was always the norm? What if everyone kept their promises and you never had your trust betrayed? What if you never fudged the truth to make yourself look good or to escape accountability?
That's what the kingdom of Heaven looks like, but we're currently living far from it. So, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus shows us what it looks like to live and speak truthfully consistently and depend on Jesus because we're not as righteous as we think.

While the circumstances around divorce and adultery are very personal, we want to bring a message of grace, truth, and the hope of the gospel. We hope you're encouraged by the words of Jesus, even if you're personally challenged by this topic.

Lead pastor Josh Carstensen continues our series on the Sermon on the Mount, as Jesus flips the script on how we tend to think about lust and adultery.
When it comes to sexual sin and brokenness, all of us are in need of God's grace and mercy. Thankfully, Jesus also offers us a life of freedom, healing, and forgiveness, and he gives us a better way to live. When we embrace God's design for sexuality, we recognize that our sexual desires are something to be neither feared nor ruled by, but instead something to be formed and stewarded, as a gift.
We will also hear from Duan Walker, the director of a local counseling ministry for those who need practical help and support on their journey toward wholeness and healing. Please note that this is a sensitive message and is not suitable for young children.

What if everything you thought about rules, sacrifice, and righteousness was about to be radically redefined? In this part of His sermon, Jesus delivers a powerful and pivotal message - a moment of fulfillment, challenge, and transformation - turning 1,500 years of tradition into a call for something deeper, harder, and far more beautiful.
It's a statement that surprised everyone when He said it and one that we still grapple with today. Jesus freed us from the Old Testament law and gave us something much harder. Are you ready to wrestle with what it means to truly follow Him?

Today, we'll unpack what it means to preserve worth, shine truth, and transform culture—not through legislation but through how we live, love, and honor others.

What if this Christmas, you rediscovered the joy that changes everything? Not just fleeting happiness, but great joy—a joy born in the most ordinary places, for ordinary people, like shepherds and like us.
This joy isn't just a feeling; it's a response to the greatest news the world has ever heard: God came to us, broke through the mundane, and offered hope, peace, and purpose.
Today, Pastor Gary will talk about embracing that great joy, responding to it, and sharing it boldly. Are you ready to experience the deeper, more durable joy of Christmas?

We all have a backstory. Even villains have backstories that we can sympathize with. So how do we know what's good and what's bad?
The Christmas story is full of characters with their own backstories. When we look at the stories of Herod and the wise men, what can we learn from the choices that they made when it comes to Jesus?
Through reading their stories, one thing becomes clear: we are all sinners in need of forgiveness.

Living in peace is truly something we all long for. But in this teaching, Jesus challenges our idea of what that looks like: Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
While we long for peace, our ideas of living peacefully often still fall short of what Jesus calls us to. Because Jesus entered into a world full of conflict, he has flipped the script on peace not being merely an avoidance of conflict, but something active.
What does it mean to actually make peace in our world?

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the Sermon on the Mount. A profound longing echoes throughout Scripture—the desire to see God. But what does it mean to truly see Him? To answer this, we begin not in Matthew, but in Exodus, where God's relationship with His people unfolds through moments of faith, failure, and redemption.
At one point, Moses asks to see God, but God says he can't see His face and live. But Jesus says something different, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
Let's find out how these two seemingly contradictory statements are both true.

Have you ever been caught doing something wrong? We want to be shown mercy, but, at the same time, we often crave justice for others... to the point that it can become vengeance!
But Jesus flips the script by declaring: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." (Matthew 5:7)
Jesus challenges us not just to show mercy but to be merciful. It's a call to forgive, to act with compassion, and to reflect the mercy God showed us through the cross. This kind of mercy can break cycles of bitterness and reveal a better way to live—one that brings Heaven to earth.
What might it look like in your life to show mercy to someone who doesn't deserve it?

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus makes a statement about obsession. He says, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied" (Matthew 5:6). Jesus doesn't say blessed are those who have righteousness. The blessing is in the longing, in the obsession. That feels backward.
At the crux of Jesus' statement is the word righteousness. Let's find out how that will bring us satisfaction.
But first, we'll start with a testimony from two of our long-term missionary partners in Uganda and how they're seeingpeople hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Power, strength, dominance - this is how we expect a king to rule. But Jesus flips the script when he says, "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

There's a third type of blessing that's extremely counter to today's culture, which Josh shares.

Against a backdrop of foreign occupation and religious oppression, Jesus' message challenges his listeners' instincts and the status quo. In today's political and religious climate, ask yourself if you believe His authority, and if so, what is God inviting you to repent of?

Worship Director Justin Jackson concludes a vision series where we explore the question, "What is a Christian?" In John 15, Jesus teaches us that abiding in Him, bearing good fruit, and genuinely loving others is the defining mark of a true follower. We can't just claim faith; our actions, or "fruits," must reflect our beliefs. And the best action we can take is to love others by putting them first. Ultimately, being a Christian is about making Jesus our home, living with love, and serving others daily.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a vision series where we explore the question, "What is a Christian?" Being a disciple means sacrifice, not just in words, but in how we live. Jesus invites us to embrace that identity fully, but it requires something deeper than just attending church. In Luke 14, He calls us to count the cost—to give up everything, including our own desires, and follow Him daily.

Worship Director Justin Jackson continues a series on the writings of Peter. Peter continues his instructions on growth and submission, extending it to husbands and wives. This passage can be "difficult" in today's culture, but Justin does a fantastic job showing us that Peter is talking about our hearts and how it ties all the way back to the fall in Genesis. The question we want to ask as husbands and wives is: Am I for my spouse? And if you're single, don't worry; it's also relevant to you - especially the second half of the message.
Also, as part of the "Something To Say!" series, we'll start the message with someone's testimony. We hope you find it encouraging.

Worship Director Justin Jackson continues a series on the writings of Peter. As Christians, we are a chosen group, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation. And now that we are God's people, we have received mercy. Think about that - we've received mercy. God did this so that He receives glory, and we proclaim the name of Jesus. In today's message, Peter instructs us on how we proclaim Jesus and make Him known: by living a life characterized by growth and submission.

Peter was profoundly changed by Jesus, and as a result, Peter had something to say, which was recorded and preserved for us. Over the next few weeks, we'll dive into what Peter had to say, starting with 1 Peter, chapter 1, where we're encouraged to have hope in a world full of suffering and trials because we have new life in a living Jesus.

Associate Pastor Ron Kings concludes a series on the life of Peter. God acts beyond our expectations in this final adventure of faith amid trials and tribulations. Despite King Herod's violent attempts to suppress the early church, the power of grace and God's word continued to spread and multiply. Given these experiences, we should ask ourselves why we're so often surprised by God and what we can discover about God when He acts in ways we don't foresee.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of Peter and how the early church spread in a context so adamantly against Jesus. One of the ways is through our actions. When we love people the way Jesus loves people, it's a beautiful testimony that attracts people to want to know more about Jesus. But when we don't act like Jesus, it puts a stain on Christianity and kills our testimony. Today, we will look at both a good and a bad example of living like Jesus.
Also, twenty-two people were baptized last Sunday. And so, as part of our "Something To Say!" series, we'll start the message with four people sharing their testimonies and why they were baptized. We hope you find them encouraging.

And what happens to those who do accept Christ? Josh answers each of those questions.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of Peter. Have you ever wondered how Christianity got started in such a hostile culture to its message? When Christianity began, people hated it so much that they killed the one leading the charge.
And not only was Jesus killed, but so were all but one of His closest followers. If that doesn't scream hostility towards your religion - what does? Yet, Christianity didn't die. Instead, it spread like wildfire amid opposition and hostility. How did this happen? Let's learn how Peter and others shared the message of Jesus and how it caught on.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of Peter. Have you ever gone through a season in your life when you thought about walking away from your faith? It typically happens because of two primary reasons. There's a moment in Peter's life when things get tough, and Peter doesn't just walk away but runs away. It's a moment of sifting for Peter. What do you do in those moments of sifting?

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of Peter. Peter asks Jesus how often he should forgive someone who sins against him. As many as seven times? That seems like a lot, but Jesus' answer goes way beyond seven. And that's because we have been forgiven of so much more. It's a wonderful lesson about conflict and forgiveness.

Peter replies with an answer revealed by the Father in Heaven - it's a great moment. But right afterward, as Jesus shares about the difficult road ahead, Peter's reaction is... less Heavenly-inspired. It's a reminder that we don't get to pick and choose what we like about Jesus. The invitation is to follow all of Jesus.

The story of Peter walking to Jesus on the water often ends with us reflecting more about how Peter had "little faith," and less about how Peter actually got out of the boat. Youth Pastor Gary Jones continues a series on the life of Peter. When Peter first started following Jesus, he witnessed three moments of power and healing, which left Him wide-eyed and astonished. Wouldn't seeing Jesus' power and healing in person be great? It seems like it would make believing and following so much easier! Yet, Jesus isn't physically beside us doing miracles anymore, so there must be something more to it than simply seeing it in person like Peter. Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen is continuing a series on women of the Bible. Many of us have heard how God worked through the Old Testament leader Moses. Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen is starting a series on women of the Bible. Let's be honest: the Bible can feel male-dominated. It's written by men, and it's mostly about men. Plus, Jesus was a man, and all the apostles were men.
Yet, we know that we all have a place and that God loves both men and women. So, Pastor Josh will answer six questions about one of the most debated issues in Christian scholarship in the past few decades.

Associate Pastor Ron King is concluding a series on prayer as a spiritual discipline. There are two essential settings in your prayer life: in a community with other believers and alone in solitude.
But being alone in prayer can be challenging. It can be hard to slow down, ignore the noise of daily life, let go of never-ending to-do lists, and listen to God. So, instead of settling for a "prayer light" life, let's talk about growing in our prayer life.

What is He saying, and how do you respond? God spoke to us through prophets for thousands of years - a simple yet profound act. But now, God has spoken through Christ, and we ought to be a people who begs to listen to him. So, let's talk about the process of listening to God.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of David. Do you have an area in life that isn't going the way you wanted? What's your typical reaction? We're continuing from where we stopped last week - after David makes an altar to atone for his sin of taking a census. After that, David desires to build a magnificent temple for the Lord. However, the Lord tells David he won’t be the one to make it - his son, Solomon, will make it. Let's see how David reacts to this disappointment.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of David. The story of Israel wanting a king ended exactly as God predicted. God gave them what they thought they wanted with Saul, which went horribly. Then God gave them their best shot at a good king with David, which still ended tragically. We'll dive into that tragic ending today, and through that, we see God's forgiveness and our need for Jesus - the perfect king.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of David. We all have some part of our history that we are embarrassed by, ashamed of, and maybe even haunted by. We've all done things we know we shouldn't have, and we've thought things we know we shouldn't. What do we do with those shameful memories? Do they matter? Does God see them? Does He forgive them?
As we see in the story of King David's greatest fall, God meets him in his failure, David repents, and God forgives. This Thanksgiving weekend, let's give thanks for God's generosity and forgiveness.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series on the life of David. David was called Israel's greatest king because he had a heart after God. We see a clear example after David is crowned king and establishes Jerusalem, the city of David. David desired to dwell in the house of the Lord, which at that time meant bringing the Arc of the Covenant to Jerusalem. But in doing that, David learned an important lesson about how God wants us to approach him.

Worship Director Justin Jackson continues a series on the life of David. David demonstrates God's mercy by how he treats Saul and his family. David doesn't see Saul as an enemy, doesn't do what everybody expects, and doesn't take vengeance into his own hands. It's a beautiful picture of how God treats us and how we should treat others, given what God has done for us.
Also, as part of the "Something To Say!" series, we'll start the message with someone's testimony. We hope you find it encouraging.

In 1 Samuel 18 we read the continuing story of David. As David’s popularity grew, so too did Saul’s Jealousy. We read in this chapter of the friendship between Jonathan and David, and Jonathan’s faith and acceptance and David would be the next king of Israel. We also read of David’s failure to trust God in his love life, by marrying Saul’s daughter, which will lead to greater problems in David’s future.
Youth Pastor Gary Jones continues our 10 week series on the Life of David.
In 1 Samuel 17 we read the epic story of the duel between David and the Philistine champion Goliath. Though Goliath was mighty, David triumphed over him because he had faith that God would be with him in the midst of the battle. Likewise, God calls us to step out in faith and trust, placing our lives fully into His care.
Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen begins a 10 week series on the Life of David.
David was considered Israel’s greatest King. He was a great poet, a mighty warrior, and a strong ruler. He was also a sinner, who failed many times in his life. But above all of these things, David was a man after God’s heart. Today, Pastor Josh provides some background to the life of David, and shows us what it means to have a Heart after God.
Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen concludes a vision series for our ministry year called "Something To Say!" Our fifth ask at Northwest Hills is to make Jesus known. God brings justice against anyone who disobeys Him. And the truth is that there's a problem: death is coming to everyone because everyone has disobeyed God. However, God provided a solution by sending His son, Jesus, to the cross, and He extends his mercy to anyone who understands and embraces the cross. So, our job is to share that truth - that God is both just and merciful - with others.
Also, as part of the "Something To Say!" series, we'll start the message with someone's testimony. We hope you find it encouraging.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a vision series for our ministry year called "Something To Say!" Our fourth ask at Northwest Hills is to serve with intention. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns us that we can only serve one of two masters. One is worldly wealth, but that doesn't last. The other is God, which does last. So, given what God has given you - your time, talents, and passions - how can you best serve God?

Instead, these are steps that we can take for us to fall more in love with Jesus. I encourage you to pick one discipline this week and try it.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen starts a new vision series for our ministry year called "Something To Say!" The Bible reveals two truths: 1) We are more awful than we can imagine, but 2) We are also more loved by God than we could imagine. Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. Jude is the brother of Jesus, and he's hearing reports of false doctrines. So, he writes this aggressively toned letter contenting for faith in Jesus. Jude pushes us to ask ourselves: Who's side are we on? Who are we fighting for? And who are we trusting in? It's a short but powerful letter.

The letter to the Colossians helps us understand who the real Jesus is by describing his nature and works. Jesus was not bland, passive, or simply a nice idea. Paul's letters to the Corinthians give us practical guidance on what being part of a healthy church looks like. In this message, Pastor Ron shares seven issues that we still wrestle with today. The overarching theme is that we shouldn't approach the church as a consumer; instead, we must recognize that it's not about us. It's about Jesus. And in the same way that Jesus put aside his own wants on the cross, we also want to put others before ourselves.

Guest Speaker Travis Larsen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The three post-exile prophets of Isreal - Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi - are the final three books of the Old Testament. Each had a unique and significant message for God's people to try and help them correctly anticipate God. Unfortunately, they were disappointed because there were looking for God to show up in a specific way, but God had much bigger plans which we'll read about next week when we start the New Testament.

Associate Pastor Ron King continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The six prophets of Judah, before the exile - Joel, Obadiah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah - had a terrible message of punishment for sins committed: death by the sword, pestilence and famine, exile for Judah, vengeance on the nations around Israel, and vengeance on the nations who would oppress God's people. But these prophets also had a message of future hope and blessing. In this message, Ron shares four truths about God that we learn from these prophets.

Worship Director Justin Jackson continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Daniel shows us how to have true hope in a hopeless situation. Time and time again, Daniel chooses the path of righteousness when it would have been easier to give in to the demands of Babylon and Persia. We can do that too! The book of Ezekiel tells us something that, if it came from anybody but God, would be considered offensive: God owns our body and soul. If that's true, then God gets to tell us how to live. He gets to decide what happens if you live - or don't live - the right way. So, what does it mean when God says He owns you? The book of Ezekiel helps us figure it out.

Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. Jeremiah is a man of many sorrows who watched his nation go through terrible suffering and be destroyed despite giving multiple warnings. It's a challenging message that will likely lead you to ask how God can justify all of Jeremiah's hardship and pain. This book can also be confusing because it spans many years, isn't chronological, and uses multiple styles of literature. But it's worth working through because it ultimately points to an eternal, good, and patient God.

Youth Pastor Gary Jones continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The Song of Solomon addresses what we do with desire, longing, and love. It can feel a bit awkward, but the book has a message for people who are single, married, and also for believers. The Bible's counsel is counter to our current culture, but that's because the Bible regards our sexuality as a God-given gift.

The book of Ecclesiastes dives into the thoughts of a man who was given everything - all his wants were fulfilled! Despite having and achieving everything his heart desires, he concludes that life is meaningless if those things are all you're living for. It's sobering and depressing. But hang on until the end because there is one thing that brings meaning to everything we do.

Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Psalms is the deepest and widest book of the Bible that shows us what it looks like to have a heart for God. Psalms shows us what it looks like to really believe that our individual lives matter. How to have a heart that pays attention to God, takes refuge in God, and praises God. It's a lot, and it's good. You'll have time to reflect on your own heart at the end of the message.

Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Job wrestles with suffering and asking if God is good and just. It's troubling for most people because Job is blameless and upright, yet God permits Satan to take everything away from him. Most of the book has Job debating with his friends on why this happened to him. And at the end, Job meets face-to-face with God for an unforgettable response. At the end of the message, you'll have time to reflect on your own questions in life.

Pastoral Internal Jacob Mills continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Esther takes place in Persia during the exile. Persian leaders are morally questionable, and many Israelites are conforming and hiding their heritage and beliefs. Furthermore, the text of Esther never mentions God. This begs the question: where is God in this almost tragedy? We'll find that even if we don't explicitly see Him, God is always in control, and He's the one who gives us the courage to speak up in morally questionable times.

The book of Nehemiah concludes the narrative of the Old Testament, but it ends in tragedy. After completing the wall and reading God's word as a whole assembly, the people make six promises to God. But when Nehemiah returns five years later, he finds they failed on 5 of them. Then silence for 400 years. It's a bit of a cliffhanger, but it's worth pausing on for a bit.

Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called "What Is Going On?" where we read the entire Bible in a year. The book of Ezra takes place 70 years after Israel's exile. Around 50,000 Israelites return home and start rebuilding the temple, but God's presence remains missing. The people stop building for 20 years until Haggai, speaking for God, inspires them to complete the temple. But God's presence still doesn't dwell in the temple. It's a story of longing and recognizing that God no longer dwells in a physical building but in our hearts.

They all circle the issue of obedience to the Lord. When they obeyed, God blessed them - it always pays to trust the Lord. However, their regular disobedience led to tragedy and, ultimately, exile. If you were chronicling your life, is there a specific step of obedience to God that you need to take?

During this time span, a nation is split and many kings rise and fall out of power, due to continued idolatry and disobedience to God. Ultimately, these books point to one constant theme; that there is no God like the Lord.

Leader Pastor Josh Carstensen continues a series called ''What Is Going On?'' where we read the entire Bible in a year. Joshua takes the Israelites into the Promised Land. It's a moment of celebration but also raises some moral dilemmas. For example, is it OK to lie if telling the truth will hurt - even kill - someone? And, how do the events in Joshua line up with Jesus forgiving sins? These are hard questions, but worth meditating on.

Deuteronomy is a set of farewell speeches from Moses begging the Israelites to follow the Lord. If they choose life, they will do well. Leviticus can be hard to read, but it specifies how the Israelites should sacrifice to handle their sin, set themselves apart as a kingdom and priests, and establish a new nation-state. It's a lot! Lead Pastor Josh Carstensen concludes a series in Hebrews 11 called Something Better. How do you have a faith that holds on when things are going super well, or when things are tough? It's a bazaar command that seems so wrong, especially after Abraham waited 25 years for God to fulfill his promise of giving him a son. But ultimately, the test is asking if Abraham trusts God, even in difficult times. What are you willing to give up to say, "I trust you Lord?"

When Zechariah wrote about the king coming to Jerusalem while riding on a donkey, the people got excited about Jesus because they thought he would set them free from Rome's oppression. However, Jesus' fight wasn't against Rome; it was against Satan. And the good news is that Jesus won! And he invites us to fight with him against darkness.

Pastor Josh Carstensen is continuing a series on First John, where we see God's love through His wrath. Sin is not doing what's right. And when you sin, God's wrath gets poured out. For example, the prophet Jeremiah pleaded with the Israelites to obey God, but when they refused to obey, God poured out His wrath on the Israelites. And the good news is that we now have an advocate in Jesus. So, instead of God pouring his wrath on you, Jesus takes it for you.
After the message, reflect on how you've sinned and praise God that he loves you so much that he sent Jesus, who took on the punishment you deserve.

Pastor Josh Carstensen is continuing a series on First John. How do you determine what's right and what's wrong? Is it group consensus that makes something right? John states that God is the one who sets the standard for right and wrong. And our role is to have fellowship with God - who will reveal where we have sinned - and ask for his forgiveness.
After the message, spend some quiet time with God and confess your sins. And by doing so, you'll demonstrate that God - not yourself - determines what's right and wrong in your life.

Worship Director Justin Jacksonis continuing a series on the book of Ruth where Boaz sets up a legal tribunal at the city gate to determine who will redeem Ruth and Naomi. To be a redeemer is costly because it means taking care of two ladies, producing an heir, and eventually giving back Naomi's land as well as splitting his current land. The first person passes, but Boaz makes the extraordinary choice, in faith, to take on the risk of responsibility and restore Naomi and Ruth's family. It's beautiful picture of what Christ did for us.

Pastor Josh Carstensenis continuing a series on Ruth where Naomi and Ruth return to Bethlehem. Ruth enters the city as an outsider from Moab, a group of people constantly fighting with God's people. Like Ruth, we're all outsiders to God’s Kingdom and we need someone to vouch for us in the same way that Naomi vouches for Ruth. But unlike Naomi, Jesus pursues us and brings us to the gates of Heaven Himself. It's amazingly good news!

These truths cause a heated debate, rude comments by the Pharisees, and shatters the box they have for Jesus to the point that they want to stone Jesus to death. How will you react to the real Jesus?

In John 8 we see Jesus being confronted by the religious leaders. It's a power struggle over who is right. Oftentimes, when we find ourselves disagreeing with others, the question at hand isn't what is right but rather who is right. Ultimately, there is only one person who is right, and he also establishes what's right.

Jesus famously feeds the five thousand, but He offers us more than bread and fish. Jesus offers us himself, which is the real bread that we need in a wilderness of hunger and longing. Are you seeking Jesus just to fulfill something that you want? Or are you seeking him for who he truly is?

Jesus heals a man and then claims to be God. This claim is incredibly offensive because it breaks all the Jew's rules. But, Jesus defends his claim with five evidence-based arguments. What evidence are you looking for that would help you believe that he is alive today and is worth giving your entire life to follow?

Happy Easter! Pastor Josh Carstensen is continuing a series on John where Jesus heals a man at a well on the Sabbath. This begins Jesus' journey to the cross, and ultimately his resurrection, because he didn't fit into people's boxes. He broke their rules. Have you put Jesus into a box for what you think he can do in your life today?
