Daniel 11 is a long chapter full of history and prophecy. Daniel learns about the future fate of his people and the lands they live in. The chapter leaves us amazed at how accurate the angel's prophecy. It challenges us to be certain about the fulfillment of other prophecy we find in Scripture, including in the later part of Daniel 11. Prophecy should cause us to feel certain about God's plans and to be prepared for King Jesus. Belshazzar, the son of Nebuchadnezzar, makes a mockery of God by throwing a debaucherous party in praise to pagan gods while drinking wine from vessels from the temple in Jerusalem. As we come now to the end of Lamentation, and the conclusion of our study of lament, we are reminded that pain does not go away quickly, or resolve neatly, at least not on this side of eternity. Oftentimes, pain comes in waves, troughs and crests. And it is yet amidst the ruins of Jerusalem, from the trough of despair and devastation, that the weeping prophet arrives at the last stanza of his lament, and cries out to the Lord in prayer. We join with the weeping prophet in Lamentations 5 as we pray in pain, hope against despair, and trust that the God who sees and knows our sorrows, remembers us in our pain, reigns sovereign over our suffering, will one day return and wipe away all our tears and all lamenting will forever cease.

Human beings are made in the image of God. This is foundational to understanding human nature, behavior, and even sexuality. However, because of the Fall this image is broken; none alive has escaped its debilitating effect on self-perception and even behavior. What is more, God so loves us that in Christ he took on flesh to make for us a new way being human.

While there are many ethical implications to be considered regarding our views on sexuality, this session focused thinking theologically about human sexuality and on pastoral strategies with youth and young adults, struggling with sexual identity and the pain of brokenness. It offers an overview of responses to some of the current cultural trends such as LGBTQ issues.

It shows what love does when it has the advantage, what love does with conflict, and what love does to provide for the poor. Christianity's answer to death is resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus not only proves God's mastery over death, but also provides a path for all of us to follow. Ours is a future-looking faith that hopes eagerly for the day when God will swallow up death forever. Through Jesus, the seven chains of death will then be broken: fear, grief, pain, frustration, humiliation, confusion, and unfulfilled potential. With the shadow of death no longer hanging over us, our resurrection life will be a radically different kind of life.
