Paul starts a new series based on the book "Resolving Everyday Conflict" by Ken Sande of Peacemakers Ministry. In this first sermon, Paul talks about how our first reaction when dealing with conflict should be to "look up" to God for guidance.
Ephesians 5:1-2
Healthy Christian fellowship is marked by people who are thankful, prayerful, and joyful about each other because of the gospel. In a day and age where people are divided, Christians need to be different. Even under persecution, Paul expressed these marks of unity because of his great fellowship with the Philippian church. Their relationship sets an example to us of how we are to live in special unity with one another. In our divided world, this local church must partner in the gospel with gratitude, prayer, and joy.
Paul discusses the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector.
Scripture: Luke 18:9-14
Paul talks about 1 Peter 1:3-9 and also goes over the plan the elders have come up with for reopening the building this fall.
Today we have three brief messages from Tom Lewellen, Dave Klassen and Paul Cronenwett relating to the installation of Paul Cronenwett as the lead pastor of Grace Church.
Because we live during the time between the first coming and the second coming of Christ - which is between the inauguration and the consummation of the kingdom of God - our Christian lives are characterized by the tension between the 'already' and the 'not yet.' Communion is meant to remind us of this and of our responsibilities to live for the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 11.23-26
The law was given to restrain our sin and reveal our sinfulness, in order to make us hunger for forgiveness and freedom from sin.
Galatians 3.19-29
The Mosaic law (which calls for obedience) can neither annul nor fulfill the previous promissory covenant confirmed to Abraham (which calls for faith). The gospel is the fulfillment of the free promise of God.
Galatians 3.15-18
Adding any requirements to the gospel beyond faith in Jesus Christ as the crucified and risen Savior for eternal salvation undermines the integrity of the message and fosters hypocrisy.
Galatians 2.11-21
Our authority to minister the gospel comes from the message; it can be affirmed by others but not authorized from them.
Galatians 2.1-10
There is only one true gospel which proclaims salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone. Every other message claiming to restore people to relationship with God is counterfeit.
Galatians1.6-10
The gospel reveals how God rescues believers - both in the present and at the final judgment - from the dominating power of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ…alone. No amount of will-power, good intentions, or obedience to God can do this.
Galatians 1.1-5
Peace means an end to God's anger toward us; an end to our rebellion against God; and the opportunity to experience peace of heart in a restored relationship with God.
Romans 5.1-2
The family is the primary source for Christian discipleship, and the primary place for worship.
2 Timothy 3.14-17
God has tied his reputation in the world both to Jesus Christ and to the ministry and reputation of his church.
Ephesians 3.20-21
Every believer should, if possible, become a committed and accountable member of a local church. If you identify with Christ you should identify with his people.
1 Corinthians 12.12-27
The new covenant we have with Christ surpasses the old covenant because it imparts the internal motivation to obey, a "personal" relationship with God, and complete forgiveness to all the members.
Hebrews 8.6-13
When God’s people return to him in faith and repentance, and (re-)commit themselves to live according to his word, he blesses them with all the riches of his covenant.
2 Chronicles 15.1-15
Listen as Tom Lewellen - representing the Elder Team - presents a plan for Covenant Membership at Grace Church. This plan will continue to be explained at the Sunday gatherings as well as in small groups throughout the Fall.
When people turn away from God, they abandon each other, they abandon good judgment, and they abandon worship.
1 Kings 12.1-20
Spiritual compromise in one generation leads to indifference and apostasy in the next.
1 Kings 3.1–3; 11.1-4
When there is a crisis of values, we must stand for God and point people to his power and authority.
1 Kings 16.29-17.1
On Good Friday, we look at the cross from three unique perspectives: (1) a common man, (2) a commander of the angel armies, and (3) Christ Himself.
In order for the church to be what God has appointed it to be, we must know who we are and what we are to do.
1 Corinthians 6.1-6
Jesus taught us plan for preserving accountability and restoration within the church family so that we can faithfully seek to maintain our purity and power as a living church.
1 Corinthians 5.1-13
Rather than proudly tolerating or fearfully ignoring moral rebellion within the church we must humbly, gently but decisively deal with it in order to reveal most clearly the gospel message of transforming grace.
1 Corinthians 5.1-2, 6-8
Because even 'private' acts of sexual immorality hurt ourselves and others, Christians should avoid sexual immorality.
1 Corinthians 6.18-20 1 Thessalonians 4.1-8
When the values of the world are shown to be false and deceptive, the reason for God's principles of sexuality become clear and imperative.
1 Corinthians 6.12-18
Main Idea: Because the fall and its consequences impact us at the level of our sexual identity and experience, God uses this to show us the sinfulness of our stubborn independence and to drive us to Christ.
Genesis 3.1-19
Because our present generation displays the natural progression of fallen culture from ungodliness to unrighteousness that Scripture predicts, only a saving relationship with Jesus Christ provides a firm basis for morality.
Romans 1.16-23
When we evaluate the state of the Christian movement at the beginning of 2016, we are moved to ask God to revive us so that we will turn from our sin, obey his word, and experience his blessing.
Psalm 85
How can I make myself more available so I can become more involved in how God is reaching the world with the Good News?
As Christians we must persevere in our witness to the Jewish people because, even though they have largely rejected the Messiah and his followers at the present time, God will save many of them in the last days when Christ returns.
Revelation 3.7-13
Since God views all unfaithfulness to him as spiritual adultery we must carefully maintain the biblical integrity of the Christian faith.
Revelation 2.18-29
When persecuted Christians confess their faith in a public accusation, mistreatment and death, they demonstrate the power and reality of eternal life.
Listen as Tom and Paul present an update on our Five Year Plan, including some proposed renovations to both the lobby and the auditorium.
We must pay attention to the experiences and advice of those who are ahead of us on our spiritual journey because God uses them to guide and protect us in our Christian lives.
Proverbs 6.20-23
"Self-control is saying yes to the things in your life that fuel your love for God, and saying no to anything in your life that does not."
1 Corinthians 9.19-27
Gentleness is the ability to start with others where they are and gradually but firmly seek to lead them where they need to be.
2 Timothy 2.22-26
The distinguishing mark of a Christian is the other-centered love that was pre-eminently shown in the sacrificial death of Jesus. John 13.31-35
In light of the bewildering concerns of contemporary life, we should face our fears by patiently trusting the LORD and looking for the LORD’s future intervention to set things right.
Isaiah 8.11-9.7
People should receive Jesus as King because he fulfilled prophecy, he is fulfilling prophecy, and he will fulfill prophecy. Micah 5.2-15
Main Idea: Because God choose to reveal himself and his plans in words - rather than in pictures, symbols, or statues - we must read the Bible carefully, thoroughly and responsively.
Exodus 19:1-9a; 19.16-20; 20.1-6
Rather than defending the Bible's accuracy and veracity we need to unleash its power.
Hebrews 4.12-13
The hedonist (moral relativist), avoids needing a Savior and keeps control of his life by "being bad." In an attempt to experience grace by denying truth, he ultimately loses the joy and power of God's grace.
John 1.14-18
Because in a fallen world, we are unable to comprehend the ultimate meaning of life or to accurately measure the impact of our own life, God assures us that he is in control of history and he holds us responsible to fear and obey him.
Ecclesiastes 6.10-12
Because it is through the Church that God intends to bless the world through Jesus Christ, we will not rest until the blessing that has reached us reaches all the nations of the earth. Psalm 67.
What does it look like to live a legacy-leaving life with those we love the most? In this passage the Apostle Paul shows us some of his priorities as he strove to pass the baton to the next generation. 1 Thessalonians 2.1-14a

The table reminds us that Christians are a ragtag bunch of sinners who are forgiven, commissioned, and owned.
It's ok to struggle with doubt. Jesus welcomed Thomas to come near to Him with his doubts, and He invites us to come, too.

People are smart. We should treat them like adults and tell the what the Bible really says--even the hard parts. We are God's ambassadors, not his editors.
Because of our cultural emphasis on individualism, we fail to appreciate the privileges and responsibilities of being the "church," the "people of God." We are the unique people group established by God, founded on redemption, confirmed by obedience, and known by our blessings.
The story Jacob’s transformation from self-sufficiency to broken dependence on God is a model for us.
