At first glance, it seems as if Paul is solely focused on imploring the Corinthians to be more orderly in their worship in I Corinthians chapter 14. But upon closer study, we learn that Paul is asking us all to be imitators of Christ, particularly in the way encourage and build others up in the faith. Moving forward into chapter 15, we learn that, as believers, we are all coming to bear the image of our risen Lord and share in resurrection through Him.

In part 5 of our 1 Corinthians study, we'll look at Chapters 11- 13. Paul begins by praising the Corinthians for holding fast to the traditions that he handed over to them. Some of the topics Paul deals with include authority, unity, and spiritual gifts. These controversial topics continue to be a point of confusion and division for many Christians today, but Paul teaches a better way: love. It is the love of Christ that compels the body to work together, recognizing that there are differences in function for the many members. Yet, they are of one body.

Welcome to week 4 of our study in 1st Corinthians! In this session, we’ll be looking at Chapters 8 through 11-1, with a focus on “The law of Christ”. As believers in Jesus Christ, we know there is only one God in whose image we are made. It’s only through Jesus Christ that we can understand and reflect His holy image. In this truth rests God’s almighty power and as a church, we are called to give glory to God and build others up in His everlasting Love. This is the Law of Christ.

In 1 Peter 2:13-3:7, Peter shows how Christians should relate to authority. He challenges revolutionary and capitulatory extremes by urging Christians to allow their response to be guided by faith, not dictated by circumstances.

This 3rd part of a 7 part series study on the apostle Paul’s letter of 1 Corinthians will begin to look at chapters 4-7. Within these 4 chapters, Paul addresses the division being reported to him in the church he once planted at Corinth. Paul’s Christology brings the focus back to the church's foundation that is Jesus Christ. Who is Jesus? What did Jesus do? What does this mean?

Welcome to week 1 of our study in 1st Corinthians! In part 1 of 7, we'll be looking at Paul's introduction in Chapters 1 and 2. In his introduction, Paul begins with a grace-oriented greeting and then moves into the main idea for the content of his letter: Christ! Paul's introduction compares the wisdom of God to that of the world; specifically through the lens of the cross. He begins to mention some of the issues he has heard about that are causing serious problems within the church and he begins to address these problems within the larger context of who Jesus is and what he has done.

In the letters of Peter, we find no mere spiritual suggestions but divine truths, warnings, and commands meant to give hope. He writes not to a loose collection of spiritually minded individuals but to "a royal priesthood, a holy nation" (1 Peter 2:9), a living temple created to beam its collective, glorious hope into darkened surroundings. Peter identifies his audience as exiles who, in their various sufferings, possess the hope of Jesus' return, which is meant to motivate faithful living in the present.

In John 14, Jesus continues to stress that He and the Father are one – that He is God. He also talks about His preparation for a future destination (John 14:2-4) and tells His disciples about numerous things that will happen after His ascension, including the arrival of the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-31). Our focus this week, however, will be on an amazing and exclusive claim about Himself that Jesus makes in John 14:6 – I AM the way, the truth, and the life.

As we begin John 11, Jesus is still in the wilderness taking refuge from the rage of the Pharisees. In this chapter, Jesus will perform one of His greatest miracles and will continue to display that His purpose is to glorify the Father (John 11:4). He will make an incredibly bold claim about His power over death and life (John 11:25). We will also see Him engage difficult life circumstances with tremendous compassion and grieve with people that are close to Him, that He loves (John 11:28-36).

The “I AM” Statements in John are directly connected to his central purpose of establishing Jesus as the God who has come in the flesh to give us life. This gospel was written to establish Jesus’ credentials for the incredibly audacious claim that He is God and He alone can give eternal and abundant life.

The first verse of Genesis makes clear that God is the Creator of heaven and earth. The Bible attributes all creation to God and God alone. This is a significant statement because it speaks definitively against other explanations of creation.

This week we will see the fullness of God’s gracious plan continue to take shape as Boaz honors both tradition and Ruth. Read Ruth 4:1-12. We see Boaz appear at the city gate before the elders and the “nearer kinsman redeemer.” When the “nearer kinsman redeemer” decided not to act as redeemer, Boaz stepped in. He publicly declared to buy all that belonged to Naomi’s husband and her sons, including Ruth, whom he said would become his wife. The elders spoke a prayer of fruitfulness and fame.

This week we see Naomi guide Ruth into action in the hope of redeeming both of their futures. Read all of Ruth 3 in one sitting. We see Ruth take a bold risk under the instructions of Naomi: She presented herself to Boaz to ask for marriage at the threshing floor. Boaz blessed Ruth and accepted her proposal for redemption as we saw God’s plan unfold further. We are left with a cliffhanger as we learn that there was a nearer redeemer than Boaz who would be given an opportunity to redeem Ruth first.

Welcome to the book of Ruth! We are so glad you are here! Ruth is one of the shortest, yet most memorable books of the Bible. These four chapters capture the story of Ruth the Moabite, her mother-in-law Naomi, and Boaz, a family relative. Theirs is a story of loss and joy, friendship and faith, kindness and redemption. Whether the book of Ruth is new or familiar to you, we pray for fresh eyes to see God’s sovereignty and steadfast love in this story and in your own story.

This week we will see God’s sovereign hand directing the fate of these widows as they seek to begin a new life. This week we will focus on Ruth 2. Read all of Ruth 2 in one sitting.

The book of Hosea opens with a narrative, the very personal story of Hosea and his family. God gives Hosea an unsettling command. God asks Hosea to marry Gomer, a woman who will be unfaithful to him. This marriage will be a symbol of Israel’s unfaithfulness of to the Lord. This section is the first of five cycles of Israel’s sin, followed by God’s judgment and future restoration. The children born to Gomer have names that carry the significance of Israel’s rebellion and God’s judgment. But just as God promises to judge, he also promises mercy. While we will be stopping in the middle of the story in this introduction, next week we will see that the judgment behind the children’s names is not the final word. God will point to His faithful love and the restoration of His people.
