Helping outdoor and sustainable brands get clear in their business and grow. From marketing strategy to designing a photoshoot that will create images that connect with your audience. This is The Katie Leigh Show. Get ready to get clear and grow.
Before and during the Black Lives Matter campaign that grew in 2020, I was completely unaware of what unconscious bias was and that I could possibly have any. I was unaware of what it was like to be a person of color in America and that our experiences could be so vastly different. All that to say, I’ve learned a lot from Dameda JoLynn over the last year. Not only because she so kindly share’s her black experience and helps me to understand the world in a new way, but also because she has shined a light on the ways I too have been a part of the problem and opened up new ways to be a part of the solution.
By no means do I have it right (or even close to right) but bringing things to light is the very first step to making any sort of change, and that’s what Dameda helps do in her anti-racism work when working specifically with white people.
So.. let’s bring some things to light.
Let's talk about sex. While this isn't my favorite conversation to be had–I'm highly uncomfortable by the conversation of sex based on my upbringing–I think it's an important one. And who better to talk to than Alyssa Manny who isn't afraid of any conversation.
Alyssa is the owner of Ohana Yoga and Barre in Denver, Colorado. Her mission is to evolve and help others to evolve too. To help others to open their hearts in ways they didn’t think possible. This starts with the journey to loving ourselves and our bodies then expands to loving those around us. And she adds an emphasis to this for those who have been marginalized or oppressed. Which is why she continues to find ways to make Ohana a truly inclusive space for all to heal.
In this episode we talk about
• Spiritual Upbringings
• Our relationship to pleasure and sexuality
• How "good" and "bad" morality issues have effected our relationship with sex
• Removing shame when talking to kids about sex
And so much more.

Kemetic yoga is a newly rediscovered Egyptian practice with roots that outlive that of the yoga we practice now. Unlike Indian yoga that was made for the elite and men, Kemetic yoga was created for all the people. Men and women of every background, focused on soft movements that highlight the divine feminine and only features a limited number of postures to explore. It’s a style of yoga that’s making its way back and I’m so excited to share more of this amazing practice with you from someone who really knows what she’s talking about.
Ali Duncan is a complete Life Coach, Clairvoyant, Tantrika, Energy Healer, Spiritual Guide, and Teacher. For over 16 years she has combined the world of quantum mechanics, frequencies, emotions, and body wisdom to move her clients from their past, into the present and support them in creating a healthy, vibrant future.
And I cannot wait to share with you our conversation on Kemetic yoga. So without further ado, here is Ali Duncan...
On this episode we talk about:
• Ali's spiritual life like growing up
• What brought Ali to yoga in the first place
• How did Ali discover Kemetic yoga
• The story behind Kemetic Yoga
• How this style of yoga been received by Ali's students and why it feels so different from our usual practice
• How does Kemetic Yoga bring us back to the spiritual parts?

As defined by Joanne Sienko Ott, St. Catherine University, "The literature describes the crone archetype as a pre-existent form in the collective unconscious that embodies instinctive ways of channeling wisdom, inner knowing, and intuition, guiding us through the transition of life, and going inward to bring forth the light for transformation."
Only with age can we receive the gifts of the crone. To know life through personal experience and to be able to share what we’ve learned with others. We aren’t guaranteed to reach this phase in our life so wouldn’t it be wonderful to actually honor this stage instead of dread it?
On this episode Janet Reichart, counselor, Reiki Master, and End of Life Doula, talks with Katie Leigh Jackson about her personal experiences with death, preparing for the death of a loved one, honoring those who have passed, and understanding what an end of life doula even is.

We are all born creators. We know it when we're six, we doubt it when we're eight, and by the time we hit ten we've forgotten our love and need to create. This episode is all about bringing you back to your creative practice, solely for the sake of creating. It doesn't need to be perfect, it doesn't even need to be seen, but by allowing ourselves the gift of creating we welcome ourselves back home to our authentic self.

Nadia Bolz-Weber said it best in her book Shameless, "Origin stories, tell us how the world came about, where we came from, and other important things like white snakes, don’t have Lex. We may think we know our own origin story really well, but the garden of Eden account in genesis is notably devoid of several elements that Lora has inserted into it. For instance, there actually are no mentions of original sin, “a fall from grace,“ Satan, or temptation. And there wasn’t even an apple involved."
In this episode of the Modern Magic Podcast, Katie Leigh Jackson sits down with Rev Cindy Pincus to discuss this story and how we've all gotten it wrong all these years. Rev. Cindy shares a new version of the story from the Gnostics (who knew they existed) and gives the most beautiful illustration of what this story means for us as women and our connection to nature.

The Homemaker was the title given to most women during the turn of the century. While their husbands worked for a paycheck they were the ones at home taking care of the chores, cooking the meals, and tending to the children. However, I look at the homemaker as something a little different. I see her as the ultimate host, a creator, a curator.
The homemaker teaches us how to create spaces that are inviting and relaxing. To share practice that create community and bring us together. In this episode I share some thoughts on how to create your own calm space whether that's with the modern magic wallpaper collection or simply adding a few new houseplants to your space. Join me as we get to know the homemaker, the ultimate host, and the undercover interior designer we didn't give much thought to.

Love, lust, beauty, pleasure, and passion all words associated with the goddess Aphrodite. But the one part that we’re missing from this perfect female archetype is warrior. Aphrodite is a warrior goddess. For whatever reason this became an unremarkable trait of hers and got dropped many years ago to make her only focused on love and beauty. But as women, this masculine attribute of warrior gives us so much more balance, and allows us to break free from the toxic part of femininity. In today’s episode we explore Aphrodite and what toxic femininity in our Society looks like.

The Nordic Goddess of rest gives us the invitation to rest. To let go of all we're holding and to sink into the darkness, calm, and healing powers of it.
In a society that is so focused on more–doing more, having more, being more–I think it's time we talked about embracing less. The constant strive for more is burning us down from the inside out and in the end isn't serving anyone. As someone who has faced the side effects of burn-out and started my own journey of recovery, I want to talk about the steps it takes to heal this burn and create new life from it. (I'm sure there is a great metaphor about wild fires and the lush wildflowers that bloom in burn sites here.)
Join me as I share the steps I took (and still take) when burn-out occurs.

Today I sit down with Lesha Estrada, a physician assistant here in Denver, Colorado. She gives us the inside scoop of what it’s like to be a healthcare professional during COVID-19.
Emily realized early on that the system was broken and she was a part of the problem. In traveling the world and working for Latino communities, Emily first hand witnessed what her privilege provided for her and how the minorities were so greatly at risk for a life of hardships. In this episode we talk about how Emily became an activist and what inevitably lead her to law school to become a public defender. She speaks about the hardships of women in jail and the ways that we can be a part of a new system. One that supports restorative justice.
