Our conversation together looks at the role hush harbors played in enslaved Afrikan's resistance to plantation Christianity and the larger struggle against U.S. American colonialism.

In this episode, Sean interrogates what 'whiteness' and 'blackness' are, the emergence of anti-blackness and its persistence, liberalism's progress narrative, and the Church's failure to adequately acknowledge and confront its internal contradictions and tensions drawn along lines of race. For most of us, housing is primarily used as a home. But for financial and landlord capitalists, housing is, first and foremost, an instrument for extracting wealth and maximizing profits. The valuing of housing as a means for profit-maximization is contradictory to the valuing of housing as home, and increasingly under capitalism, financial capital has hyper-commodified this most basic human necessity. Ismaail Qaiyim, a participant in Charlotte, North Carolina's Housing Justice Coalition, joins me in a conversation on housing under capitalism and the various roles that race plays in the unequal distribution of housing in the US.
