Had a go at making the show as pretty as I could, influenced by Amelia Empson's gorgeous song 'Closer'. She's my new favorite thing. Strayed off the track a bit in a couple of places, James McMurtry ain't that purdy, Jason Molina is just plain dark, but mainly true to sweeter sounds of the American persuasion.
Kirsten is joined by regular listeners Marcella and Meredith playing some of their favourite songs. It's strongly a women's night and black women in country.
Otis Mace comes up and bangs out a few tunes and after something like 15 years, I finally play Seven Spanish Angels.

The great Ryan Adams redemption show. Gave him a shot after a chance encounter with a listener at a party in West Auckland. Played two songs. Still don't like him. Like MJ Lenderman though, so played him and like the track listing on my new shiny record of Neil Young and Crazy Horse 'Dume' - a repackage with exciting bonus tracks of Zuma from 1975, so played a version of Powderfinger you won't have heard. Played the Beyonce country song too - and liked that. Like the new Hurrah for the Riff Raff too. But Ryan's back in the naughty corner for eternity. I tried.
Neil and James and the old pals like Dwight and Townes as well as new buddies, Sammy & Colby, also, popping a listeners Drive By Truckers cherry by special request. He dug it.

New Willy Tea Taylor track, brand newly discovered Olivia Ellen Lloyd, dredging up some BoDeans after hearing it on the soundtrack to The Bear, Magic Factory, Skynyrd and discovering that 'Someday' off Neil Young's Freedom is actually a pretty shit song. Sounds better in my head than on the radio. Townes and Drive By Truckers make up for it though and a killer, KILLER version of Carmelita by Jason Molina.
Back in the saddle after losing the sheriff. Kirsten plays Bernie's music and the playlist from the celebration of Bernie's life, it was a huge event.

Got some blues for ya, some great local tunes off the system and handful from the 95bFM vinyl library. Very pleased with how the 'no power to the laptop' situation was handled and discovered perhaps the worst thing joe strummer ever did. you be the judge.
I let Sinead's passing have an effect on the show cos it affected me and I thought it'd sound good. Loretta Lynn, Joan Baez, Hurray for The Riff Raff, Dylan, Eilen Jewel, Allison Russel, Drive by Truckers and more all telling it like it is. Interview with Julian Temple and a bunch of finds out of the bFM vinyl library (Bodeans from the 1980's!) in between and then a strong finish for Ms O'Connor with the Dropkick Murphies and the song Kris Kristofferson wrote for her. What a loss.

We had some technical problems........ so sorry to be messing about during the show. Then we had the great honor of talking to Brian and Maryrose Crook. Collectively they make the Renderers . A NZ band originally from Ch Ch they now live in Joshua Tree in California. They are both artists and musicians squeezing a living out of California. Their brand of Psychedelic , Blues , Country music will be touring NZ over the next few weeks. Go and see them . They are amazing!

Radio is a funny business. One week i am asking people to txt in so i don't get lonesome. The next 30 people txt spontaneously. I had so many compliments on the music last night , i'll have to listen again and see if I can replicate that feeling . Starting with Matt Berninger (the National Vocalist) and Kris Kristoffersen set the tone and rousted out the roosters who like to comment on my behaviour. Sometimes i'm stumbling around in the dark , looking for new artists , it might seem all the old people are dead ! Usually this leads me to a list of new people who get me excited again. Listen in , find the ones you like on the net or Spotify and off we go again. Big Boy Crudup does a fine job of closing the show by shaming Elvis with his version of "Thats Alright Mama" right at the birth of Rock and Roll.

Lots of new releases, and Ani Difranco's "Revolutionary Love" which is a 2021 release although the single came out a bit earlier. Wonderful music all night. And a bit of dicussion about Robert Plant and Alison Kraus covering Lucinda Williams, it's a risky business.
