Built to Go is your #vanlife companion for long days on the road, working on your rig, or just relaxing by that perfect spot. Self-build? Living in your vehicle? Stealth Van? Our magazine format has something for every #vanlife interest.
Gasoline is getting more complicated than it used to be. This week we untangle octane ratings, ethanol blends, E15, Top Tier gasoline, and why the pump you used last year may not be dispensing the same fuel today. We'll also talk about welding safely on your vehicle, review TruFuel canned gasoline, celebrate the resurrection of the Max II ATV, visit one of Chicago's most unusual historical monuments, and recommend a thought-provoking look at the changing reality of stealth camping.
Yes, it's amphibious. No, the water isn't supposed to be in the gas tank

So - my planned podcast for this week was a dud, because despite recording 90 minutes worth of material, we ended up with nothing. The file is there, the time is right, but it didn't save what was recorded.
My file is like a ghost town - it used to be there, and now it's not. So, here are some tidbits and updates on various topics.

Greetings from Malaga, Spain! We’ve had an amazing adventure and we’ve another week to go. Here’s an update, and some exciting news for small vans in the US!
Host Jeff Wagg records a short episode from Chicago O'Hare covering three quick topics: a major Ford truck recall for windshield wipers, a recommendation for Work Camper News for seasonal jobs and resources, and practical bidet solutions for vans and RVs.
He also shares experiments with sealed ecospheres and Wollstad tanks as van-friendly aquatic options, plus a travel tale about canceled trains, a family rescue, and staying calm on the road.
What if you wanted to hit the road, but without the need to refrigerate, cook, or clean up? It's possible, and we'll talk about how. We'll also talk about analog vs. digital multimeters, introduce you to Skoolieswarm Route 66, visit Antarctica (again), and talk about different travel goals.
THIS thing awaits you at SkoolieSwarm Route 66

I've a few more interview episodes that will air in the coming weeks, and your feedback is always welcome! This episode delves into Starlink, 5g and LTE connectivity and there's something to learn for everyone. Her company, goRoam, has a solution that allows "at home" Internet speeds anywhere. And she has great tips for folks with less connectivity needs. It's not "cheap," but if your job depends on it, it's not out of reach either. I was surprised at how affordable it is.If you're going to work from the road, Internet connectivity is super important, so you'll want to check this out.You can check out their stuff at http://www.goroam.techYou can contact Jess directly at info@goroam.tech

Oh, and all that stuff I said earlier about ambulances? Yeah, we need to have a chat about that.

Folks, I contracted COVID-19 at the end of 2020 - a final parting gift. As such, I was unable to produce a normal episode as I can speak for a long time, can’t think much at all, and only have my iPad with me which isn’t set up for the podcast. The rather crappy sound is from recording in a very empty hotel room (where I’m quarantining) and the small iPad microphones.
I’m very grateful to Liz and Hal Bidlack for contributing the bulk of this episode, and to round things out, I’ve added a copy of my first solo podcast: Oddments.
I hope to back to normal by next week. Thanks very much for listening and I hope you enjoy this unusual episode.
PS - I have a very mild case, but you really don’t want to get this. I urge you to follow guidelines to keep yourself and others safe.
Should you have a gun in your van? We present the pros and cons, and reveal our bias. We'll also visit Ausable Chasm, talk about refilling disposable propane tanks, maximize solar power in winter, take a look at shop4seatscom and have a tale with the Mythbusters.
