This morning’s lesson from the garden teaches us to be careful about the voices we listen to. Last week we established that Satan is our enemy who seeks to destroy us because we are precious to God. He uses deception and our own emotional insecurities to influence us to make poor choices. To disregard God’s instructions and promises to us. God established a relationship with you and I as His greatest creation. He designed us to have a relationship with Him that included a balance of work and rest and love and service. Today we look at the letter Jesus wrote to the church at Pergamum through His apostle John. You like I woke up today to hear the horrendous news that two mass shootings had occurred on the same day. (El Passo and Dayton). As our world grows darker and more hostile towards God there has never been a more important time to make sure you (1) have a love relationship with God (2) you nurture that love relationship, and (3) that relationship affects those you come into contact with in a positive way. “Stick To Your Guns” is a three-hundred year old expression that means to hold onto one's beliefs or position. It comes from a soldier's responsibility to stay at his post, or gun, and not run no matter how difficult the fighting becomes. To continue shooting at an enemy although it puts you in great danger takes discipline, faith and belief in what you are fighting for. Today Nehemiah has to stick to his guns as more opposition seeks to take him out! There are many forces that try to squelch what God is doing in and through you. Paul received word that the church of Corinth which He planted with Aquila and Priscilla during his second missionary journey (Crusade) [Acts 18:1-18] was troubled. The church was splitting, believers had become selfish and the momentum of sharing the gospel had almost come to a halt. Our world slaps the label of "love" on anything that gives them significance and security whether it is holy or not. We have strayed away from the truths of what God's love really consists of. God calls us His children and with that He gives us His love. Satan does not love God's children because they remind him of everything he lost. Today on Mother's day we honor the women God has used to so richly bless our lives. Whether a woman is married, single, with or without children, God loves them and has beautiful plans for them. In Proverbs 31 God lays out guidelines to all of us regardless of gender, race or age regarding how to be virtuous. Not all mothers are alike. Not everyone has a strong mother figure in their life, others consider theirs the best ever. What makes a mother exceptional?
