His films Death Drop Gorgeous and Saint Drogo have been extremely popular at various festivals and he has become a progressive beacon for LGBTQ indie filmmakers. In addition to his projects in film and literature, Jon, Coop, and Brandon also talk about: Getting tackled by security at a Mazzy Star show * Danzig made 2 movies so bad they were good * What is vibe horror and why has it ruined the genre? * What happened to Ti West? * Kevin Bacon apparently owes a lot of favors * We need more Tales From The Crypt* * Rich people are the villains of artistry

In the 38th episode of Crushed Monocle Podcast, Jon and Coop are joined by Chris Spencer and Jim Coleman of Human Impact!Something of a supergroup, Human Impact is made up of members of Unsane, Cop Shoot Cop, Daughters, and Made Out Of Babies. Their music is dark, aggressive, and perhaps even a little post-apocalyptic. Blending elements of noise, ambient, and industrial while maintaining the DIY of the New York hardcore scene. For their sophomore album Gone Dark (on Ipecac Recordings), Chris Spencer and Jim Coleman take an organic approach to match the sound of their explosive live show.

In addition to Human Impact, Jon, Coop, Jim, and Chris also talk about:* Not getting your jaw ripped off at a show. * How Jim and Chris met decades ago but not getting to collab until recently * The joys of synth crack. * Salt Lake City getting ignored on tour.

Unfortunately, there were a few technical hiccups that caused Jim to drop in and out in the later part of this episode. That’s just an endearing reminder that Crushed Monocle Podcast is not a big-budget production but a place where the guests and hosts are just hanging out.

Joining Jon and Coop in this episode is dark pop artist McKenzie Ellis, also known as MOTHICA.Growing up in Oklahoma City, Ellis studied at the Harding Fine Arts Academy before receiving a scholarship from Pratt University for the visual arts. But it wasn’t until she was introduced to Soundcloud and a MIDI controller that her music career as Mothica took off seemingly overnight! Her first song “Starchild” gained over 100,000 listens in less than 24 hours. Since then, she has released 4 EPs and 2 albums including 2022’s Nocturnal. After being signed to Rise Records, Mothica launched her own sub-label, Heavy Heart Records. She toured the country with acts such as Coheed & Cambria and played at major music festivals like Riot Fest 2022.

This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 21 – Talking with Djunah!

Joining Jon and Coop is Donna Diane, one-half of the noise rock duo, Djunah.Known for her aggressive performance style, Donna Diane has been a staple of Chicago’s noise-rock scene for quite a few years. First as the front-woman for Beat Drun Juel, then a brief solo project before starting Djunah. While most bands of the prog variety occupy space with complex instrumentation, Djunah is about filling that space with chaos and emotion. It’s also worth noting that Diane sings while playing guitar, and synth-bass all at the same time!

Ahead of the release of Djunah’s second full-length, Femina Furens, Jon, Coop, and Donna discuss a wide variety of topics such as:* Women throwing acid on wrongdoers in the most metal era of history. * P90s are superior guitar pickups. * Playing 3 instruments at once. * Even in 2023, men are still misogynistic knuckleheads. * Genre labels are a waste of time. * Why have a record label when you can do it all yourself? * Eating illuminated Jello balls is disgusting and will knock you up.

Doesn’t that excite you? Sure it does! This is why it’s essential that you subscribe to this podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you consume fine podcasts. This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 19 – The Night of London May!

Joining Jon and Coop is a guest who is no stranger to being covered in blood, the legendary London May.Growing up on the streets of Baltimore, London May was booking bands like 45 Grave and Slayer in places they didn’t usually play. He did this all from a payphone in the hall of his high school. Before he was out of his teens, May found himself behind the drum kit of the punk scene’s most important bands. Things escalated even further when he joined Samhain, Glenn Danzig‘s post-Misfits band. Fast forward to modern times, May has played for a list of artists as long as a gorilla’s arm. Circle Jerks, Tiger Army, Ian MacKaye, and Ministry just to name a few.

Recently, May has returned to his first love of acting. From big-budget features such as The Dark Knight Rises, Disney’s Walk The Prank, all the way through micro-budget horror spectaculars like Verotika and his very own Brutal Realty Inc. On the heels of his latest feature, Night Of The Bastard (directed by Erik Boccio), May is ready to discuss the ups and downs of indie film-making.

In this episode, Jon, Coop, and London May discuss Night Of The Bastard as well as a plethora of topics such as:* Why it’s okay to geek out with celebrities. * How to make a film in 138-degree temperatures. * Doing your own stunts is just as dangerous as playing in Samhain. * Indie film-making is the new punk rock. * Glenn Danzig’s grumpiness is kinda relatable. * Steve Zing is dreamy AF. * Being in Ministry isn’t very productive.

The Crushed Monocle Podcast is a show where Jon and Coop talk about stuff. ALL the stuff! Music, movies, shows, life, or whatever. Naturally, they will mispronounce names, poke fun at themselves, and never fail to profess their love for the 1995 masterpiece, Showgirls. Doesn’t that excite you? Sure it does! This is why it’s essential that you subscribe to this podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you consume fine podcasts. This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 19 – The Year-End Grind!

Okay, despite the reason for the season, this episode is NOT a holiday episode. They’re all about the year-end grind. However, if there’s anything Jon and Coop know, it’s the value of a present! Okay well, they’re not really buying you a gift either. But that doesn’t mean you’re gonna get a lump of coal in your stocking! That’s right! In this episode, the fellas discuss some of their favorite albums of the year. So you’re getting another year-end recap, yeah? Well, suck it up because gift receipts are tacky.

In this episode, Jon and Coop discuss their thoughts on their lists as well as various topics such as: Seducing each other in their holiday apparel. * MTV’s The Grind was full of hot people who were terrible dancers. * Still crushing on Daisy Fuentes. * Fathers and sons bonding over a Jet Ski. * Jon makes a case for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. * Blink 182 have always been cringe AF. * Coop expands upon his Top 22 Albums of 2022 AND Worst Songs of 2022* articles.

Most importantly, Jon and Coop get serious and talk about what it means to mature as human beings. Seasons Beatings indeed!Jon and Coop are no longer twenty-somethings (despite their banter), and with age comes wisdom. While they are much more open-minded about art, they also have zero tolerance for insincere BS. As the end of the year draws to a close, this the perfect time to discuss their own pettiness. Jon and Coop also share their appreciation for the amazing guests they’ve had this year and every single person who has listened.
