About Prof. Dr Kingma
As a Professor in Clinical Vestibulology at the Maastricht University Medical Centre in The Netherlands, Prof. Dr Kingma has treated many patients with vestibular disorders. He developed the BalanceBelt as a substitute to the existing invasive and unsustainable treatments for severe balance disorders.
Prof. Dr Kingma has presented more than 1000 keynote lectures and contributed to more than 150 international peer-reviewed publications in biophysics and medical sciences.

This week, Dr. Abbie Ross, PT, NCS and Dr. Danielle Tolman, PT connect with Joanna Wolfson, PhD, ABPP about what people living with dizziness may experience on a day to day basis, and what can be done about it from a psychological point of treatment.Joanna Wolfson, PhD, ABPP is a board-certified senior psychologist on the Adult Outpatient service at Rusk Rehabilitation, NYU Langone Health and Clinical Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, completed her internship at NYU Rusk, and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Manhattan VA in Health Psychology and Primary Care. She is board certified in clinical health psychology. Dr. Wolfson provides individual and group psychotherapy to patients with a wide range of medical presentations, including vestibular conditions. She co-leads a vestibular stress management group, which has been running for the past 8 years. Life Rebalanced Live
The Vestibular Disorders Association will be hosting its third annual Virtual Vestibular Conference. Vestibular disorders cause a variety of disorienting and debilitating symptoms such as loss of coordination, vertigo, and dizziness, leaving desperate and confused patients searching for answers.
Patients will hear from several different experts on topics relevant to the vestibular disorders community, all from the comfort of their homes. Patients will also have the ability to ask specific questions directly to the speakers.
Free admission includes:

- Each presentation is followed by a panel of patients discussing their experience on that day's topic.

Kristen Janky, Au.D., Ph.D., is the Director of the Vestibular and Balance Research Laboratory at Boys Town National Research Hospital. She splits her time between seeing patients in the vestibular clinic and related research activities. Her overall research focus is on the clinical assessment of dizziness and balance disorders in patients of all ages, with a particular emphasis on vestibular assessment and management in the pediatric population. She received her PhD from the University of Nebraska in 2009, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University from 2010 – 2011.
Jeff is currently the Director of the Otolaryngology Vestibular and Balance Center at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. His clinical practice is focused on vestibular diagnostic testing and vestibular rehabilitation, as well as research and teaching. The 2nd International Conference for Vestibular Rehabilitation (ICVR) was held October 15-17, 2022 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Abbie Ross PT, NCS, and Dr. Danielle Tolman talk to Dr. Amir Kheradmand about the causes of disorientation. symptoms of spatial disorientation, and how it can be treated. Dr. Kheradmand is an Associate Professor of Neurology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and specializes in vertigo, dizziness, imbalance, and disorders of eye movements at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Kheradmand's research combines normal human neurophysiology and investigations in patients with disorders such as ocular misalignment, abnormal eye movements, nystagmus, and vestibular dysfunction. A special focus has been on understanding the mechanisms of spatial disorientation, and how their deleterious effects can be ameliorated.

In this episode, Dr. Danielle Tolman, PT and Dr. Abbie Ross, PT, NCS are joined by Dr. Debby and Dr. Mark to discuss visual dysfunction and the impact it can have on vestibular patients.
Dr. Debby Feinberg is an optometrist, and Dr. Mark Rosner is an Emergency Physician. They are Co-Founders and Co-Directors of the NeuroVisual Medicine Institute in Michigan, which trains other optometrists to become NeuroVisual Specialists.
Dr. Feinberg has been performing pioneering work with Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD), which is a condition where a vision misalignment creates difficulties with the two eyes working together to create a single 3-dimensional image, as well as difficulties with the two eyes following that image as it moves.
Dr. Mark Rosner is the Director of Education and Research at the NeuroVisual Medicine Institute. He has been actively involved in developing the specialty of NeuroVisual Medicine and in Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) research since 2005. He has led the effort to validate the Binocular Vision Dysfunction Questionnaire, which is used to identify patients who most likely have BVD that will benefit from treatment.

This week, Drs Danielle Tolman, PT and Abbie Ross, PT, NCS speak with Cathy Epley about her father's lasting legacy in the field of Vestibular Rehabilitation. Dr. John Epley, M.D. flipped the theory behind positional vertigo on it's head with the introduction of his particle theory. It took a lot of patience and perseverance to reach the level of acceptance that his theory has today. At this point in time, you can't mention the word "vertigo" without hearing the words "Epley maneuver" in the same sentence! Ron Waldorf is a Vestibular Physiologist, Inventor, and Entrepreneur who is responsible for the first ever patent for infrared video goggles with eye tracking! Abbie and Dani talk to Ron about how the technology came about, the transformation it took through the years, and some of the new ways he is applying the tech to make the work place safer. In this episode Dr. Danielle Tate, PT, and Dr. Abbie Ross, PT, NCS briefly talk about post-COVID diagnosis and post-vaccination dizziness. It should be noted that most of the discussion in this episode is based off of individual clinical experience, and is not validated in any way by research. As discussed, there is very little current research on the relationship between COVID-19 and its effects on the vestibular system. This week on Talk Dizzy To Me, the one and only Dr. Susan Whitney joins us to answer Jeff Walter's questions about some of the more controversial topics in the vestibular field.
Susan L. Whitney, received her PhD in motor development/motor learning from the University of Pittsburgh, her professional physical therapy education from Temple University in Philadelphia, and her DPT from MGH Institute of the Health Professions.
Currently, she is a professor in physical therapy in the UPMC School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and she is the program director of the Centers for Rehab Services (CRS) Balance and Vestibular Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Whitney has authored or coauthored more than 90 articles on Medline, most of which relate to vestibular rehabilitation. She has also coauthored a book related to dizziness and balance disorders.

Dr. Matthew Crowson , MD is a neurotologist with a focus in vestibular dysfunction. Today, Dr. Abbie Ross, PT, NCS, and Dr. Danielle Tate, PT discuss how to navigate the healthcare system as a vestibular patient. He is a fellowship-trained ear and skull base surgeon. His primary clinical focus is on diagnosis, medical, and surgical management of balance disorders. He earned his medical degree from Dartmouth College and subsequently completed a residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Duke University. He most recently completed a fellowship in Neurotology-Skull Base Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada. He also currently serves on the Medical Advocacy Committee with the Vestibular Disorders Association.

Dr. Teixido has an active neurotologic practice. He is the director of the Delaware Otologic Medicine and Surgery Fellowship, director of the Balance and Mobility center of Christiana Care, and co-director of the Pediatric Cochlear Implant and Auditory Rehabilitation Program of the Nemours duPont Hospital for Children. He teaches residents in otolaryngology regularly at Thomas Jefferson, University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Many people with chronic vestibular dysfunction have found that by making changes to their lifestyle and managing their overall wellness they are less likely to experience symptoms, and better able to cope when symptoms do arise. In this session we will present evidence about Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatment approaches – such as dietary changes, supplements, body manipulation and exercise - and explain when they are and are not recommended.
