What is Truth? In today's world, the truth is hard to find. The culture tells us that truth is in the eye of the beholder - that whatever we think is true must be true for us.
However, that is not the truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. What is Truth discovers the Truth given to us by Jesus through His one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church
Today we celebrate the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time. In the Gospel for this week challenges us to look beyond the externals. It is easy for us to think we are leading a spiritual life because we read Scripture, pray a Rosary, etc. Although these practices are wonderful, the Lord is challenging us to realize that our Lord is calling for more than this - he is calling us to transform, to change, to surrender our lives and to grow in holiness. May we be open to our Lord who wants more for us than we often want for ourselves.
In our readings for the 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear about some of Jesus' disciples leaving him after hearing Jesus tell them that he is the Bread of Life. Jesus asks the twelve if they are going to leave Him too. If we are asked that question by Jesus, what would we say? Would we leave like many disciples did because we found it too difficult or challenging to follow Jesus? Or would we stay, recognizing that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life? So what will we do?
This weekend we celebrate a Holy Day of Obligation as well - the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Solemnity celebrates that fact that when Mary died, she was taken up into heaven in her body and is with the Father and her Son in the Kindgom. Mary is our mother and we want to grow in our faith in Jesus, let us go to his Mother. Mother Mary, please pray for us now, always and at the hour of our death. Amen
Our readings for the 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time. Our readings challenge us to rely on the food that Our Lord gives us. We humans love to be self-sufficient and do everything for ourselves. We love to be in control. As we live our journey in faith we realize that we are not in control, and the "food" of this world is insufficient to sustain us.
This weekend we celebrate the 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time. We hear from the Gospel of Mark that Jesus sends out his Apostles two by two to preach the word. We too are sent out by Jesus to go into the world and by our lives and our witness, bring Christ to others. Lord, please give us the willingness and the grace to do this.
This weekend we celebrate the 4th of July and the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time. In our Gospel, we hear that Jesus goes to Nazareth and is rejected. We also know rejection is most painful when it comes from the people closest to us. May we always remember that we must always speak the Truth of Jesus in love. Yes, we may be ignored, criticized, rejected and scorned. So was Jesus. May we follow His example and proclaim His word and HIs love, no matter what the cost.
This weekend we celebrate the 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time. In the Gospel of St Mark we hear how Jesus is asked to heal a sick girl. On the way there, a woman with a bleeding disorder touches Jesus' cloak and is healed. Jesus is the divine physician. Where do we look for our healing? Do we go to Jesus or elsewhere? Do we even see our need for healing?
In this Special Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, we hear the readings for the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time where Jesus quiets the storm. We have storms in our lives. Do we trust Jesus and put our faith in Him to quiet the storms we encounter? Do we have faith?
In this Special Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, we hear Jesus in the Gospel tell us the parable of the mustard seed. Our faith is to germinate and take root. It can be seen by the fruit that our faith brings. Are we more joyful? Are you more patient? Are you more loving? If so, you are bearing fruit. If not, we can pray to grow in holiness so that by the grace of God, we will bear good fruit.
In this Special Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, we hear the readings for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We contemplate the gift that our Lord has given us - the Eucharist. We remember that Eucharist is not a symbol, but the actual Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You Lord for giving us Your body and blood to give us food for our journey, a journey that by Your grace will lead us to the Kingdom of Heaven.
In the Special Edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, we are called to contemplate the gift of the Holy Trinity in our lives. God the Father created us and the world, God the Son died for our sins and God the Holy Spirit sanctifies us and brings the love of the Father and the Son into our lives so that we may live the faith. We may not understand the Trinity, but we give thanks to God, in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

In today's Gospel for the16th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear Jesus relate the parable of the wheat and the weeds. As we try to live the Christian life (wheat), we find that we are surrounded by weeds - the weeds of our sins, the weeds of the world including the weed of constantly needing to be entertained, to be busy, etc. We struggle with the weeds of wanting control and wanting to be "free". May we be willing to ask our Lord to remove the weeds of our lives and may we be willing to cooperate with the Lord in this effort. May we always be wheat to help feed the world with the love of Christ.
In the Gospel for the 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Jesus shares the parable of the sower. The sower (God) spreads the seed on the ground which represents us. What kind of ground are we? Are we rocky, dry, or fertile? Does God's word grow within us or die, as we may not be paying attention or even rejecting His word. Lord, help us to hear Your word and to be good ground where Your seeds will bear good fruit.
In this episode for the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, Jesus invites us to come to Him and we will find rest. This is sometimes a challenging message for us, as we often believe we can do things for ourselves. We often forget our dependence on God. So let us remember who we are and who Jesus is. We are the Lord's beloved creatures, His adopted sons and daughters. We are not gods. May we continue to surrender our lives to Him.
In the Gospel of Matthew for the 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we hear the challenge of Jesus reminding us that we must be willing to give up our lives to be His disciples. The call to following Christ is a path of many crosses and "deaths". We must die to our sinfulness, selfishness, self-centeredness etc. Lord, help us to die these deaths so that we may be, in our own human sinful way, worthy of You. Lord, please give us the grace to do this.
Today's readings are for the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time. We hear Jesus tell His apostles not to fear anyone. Our Lord does not want us to live our lives in fear; He knows that a fear-based life creates a barrier for us to follow Him. We are called to live in faith - faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who gave everything He had for us; may we trust Him and put our lives in His hands. After all, God is in control.

As the Easter Season continues, we hear in the Gospel this week, our risen Lord's encounter with the Apostle Thomas. It is easy for us to say that Thomas is a doubter, an unbeliever, and to see ourselves better than that. Our Lord did not come to criticize Thomas for his humanity - actually, He came to die for our sinfulness. We all doubt at times, we all struggle. Jesus comes into our lives to offer us freedom from doubt and pain if we surrender our lives and our wills to Him.
He is Risen!!! Today we celebrate the most important day in the history of the world - the Resurrection, Jesus rises from the dead. On this day, Christ defeated death and sin and offers us the same gift at the end of time. May we celebrate this day no matter what our life circumstances are right now. We may be sad, scared, worried and afraid. Even so, He is Risen. Our risen Lord will be with us and will never abandon us. So let us put our trust in Him.

In this summer edition of the What is Truth Catholic Podcast, we hear the readings for the 20th Sunday of Ordinary Time where Jesus says He has come to set the world on fire. We are asked to contemplate our mission to follow Jesus by helping to continue his mission to set the world ablaze. Obviously, this does not mean we are to become arsonists. It does mean, we are to be on fire ourselves for the Lord, and by God's grace, bring that fire to the world. How can we do that? May we be grateful for God's gifts, and know that our ultimate treasure is God - the God who loves us forgives us and offers us the ultimate treasure - the gift of everlasting life.
In this Summer Edition for August 4, 2019, we contemplate the readings for the 18th Sunday of Ordinary Time. In the first reading for this weekend, we hear that the world can be one great vanity that does not last. In the Gospel reading for this weekend, Jesus reminds the people not to be greedy, not to be possessed by our possessions. It is not that possessions are bad, but if we are not careful, they can become our gods that we chase after and hold tightly to. Christ came to set us free, so that we can be filled with His love and mercy.
