Three brothers searching for a way to share our voices while having a good time talking about what's hot, what's not, and other random topics. We all have something to share that is an expression of who we are, how we persevere, and why we journey on. Join us in sharing and building a community of stories that we all can relate to. The more we share, the more we can each create a legacy for ourselves.

Today's topic is about class reunions. For most of us in our friend group, we are nearing at least our first class reunion. And for most of us, we are talking about our high school class reunions. Maybe we are even nearing our college class reunions, but that doesn't seem to be a common thing. Correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, today's episode is talking about our thoughts on high school class reunions. Did we attend ours, or did we skip it?

Today's topic is about organizing while traveling. When flying away from home, or even just a road trip, we have to pack logistically. At least for me, I have to think and pack for the amount of days, activities, or even the weather. Different people have different ways to keep track of their items, but overall, how we organize, or lack of it, can add or subtract stress to our plans.
The question explored in today’s episode:
Today's topic is about food and places. Here on the show, we like to travel and we like to eat good food. Sometimes the food and the flavors we taste that can be unique to an area, keeps us yearning or traveling back to try it again because it's a taste that can't be replicated elsewhere. It's like they say, sometimes our senses can trigger a great memory, and food can definitely do that for us. But what is truly the allure of the food? Is it the memories of traveling, the actual taste of it, or just simply an experience that is unique to you and others who live near you will rarely experience? Whatever the reason, in this episode, we'll talk about our favorite foods at our favorite places to travel to, and would it change our perspective on it if it was a lot closer to us?
The question explored in this episode is:
Today's topic is about seasonal allergies. It's around early spring right now as we are recording this. And here in the Pacific Northwest, it is common for many of us to have seasonal allergies that flare up our nostrils and make our eyes water. At least for us two on today's episode, we get struck with this every year fairly consistently. Maybe today's conversation can stir up solutions to keep the seasonal allergies at bay, or help us to brainstorm some ways to better deal with it.
The question explored in this episode is:
Today's topic is about technology. It's hard to deny, but it's all around us, and for a majority of us, near and dear in our pockets. We've read and watched sci-fi books and movies about how technology can advance, challenge, and even change civilization. Though we are not yet driving flying cars, or teleporting, for example, we can see the power of our existing technology and how it is increasingly getting us closer to those sci-fi themes--making them more believable than before. For most, we can remember a time when we either grew up with technology, grew up young enough to adapt with it, or were old enough where we remembered we had to learn it or fall behind. In this episode, we are going to talk about how it was growing up with technology in our lives, and do we feel we can continue to stay up to date in the future with all of its advancements.
The questions explored in this episode are:
Today's topic is about the things we buy. We know, or at least are aware of, psychology tactics in marketing products. The stories that the brand was created from, messages that match our beliefs when we purchase them, or just going along with what's popular in hopes that the positive reviews translates to a great buy. In this episode, we'll pull up some receipts (not really!), and talk about some of our favorite purchases, and figure out what keeps us coming back to a brand name, or what makes us look the other way for alternatives.
The questions we explored in today’s episode are:
Today's topic is about how we prefer to experience ordering food. With a lot of things being more remote, like work from home, ordering take out, etc., it's so much easier to just get good restaurant food ordered straight to our doors. As much as hosting at home is fun, sometimes the experience of going out to eat is a ritual that can't be rivaled by the click on our phones, or the freshness of getting it straight from kitchen to table. In this episode, we are going to chat about what we prefer to experience when we are hungry and don't want to cook. Our preference can definitely change depending on who we are eating with.
The question explored in this episode is: Whether it's a date with your significant other, or hanging out with family and/or friends, how do you prefer to experience ordering food: eating out at a restaurant or other venue, or ordering in at home?
Today's topic is about football, but more specifically, about the Seattle Seahawks. Look them up. As a hometown team that we, on the podcast, are big fans of, and at the time of this episode, we heard some big news that shook the city the past weekend. All in the entertainment sense. And today's episode is taking us on a light hearted route. In Seahawk news, the team's quarterback, star player, and probably unanimously the favorite player on the team by fans, has been traded to another team after playing in Seattle for the past decade or so. In previous episodes, we've talked extensively with friends about how sport figures, or even comic characters, can spark inspiration for us. The star quarterback of the Seahawks, Russell Wilson, could be seen as a hero for many sports viewers. Now that he is leaving to play for another team, and also if you paid just enough attention to sports media, you have people on all sides of the coin either wishing him well at his new team, or criticizing him for being disloyal to the team that he played for first. In this episode, it won't all be about football and Russell Wilson, but more about how we view our attachment to heroes in all forms.
The questions explored in this episode:
Today's topic is about mental reset. Tough days are inevitable, and sometimes plenty. As we truck through our days, and our weeks, life may sometimes give us a detour from our routine. And we talk about routines a lot, and though it doesn't have to be obsessive, routines can keep the stability in our lives. But what happens when we do have to take that detour from time to time? In this episode, we talk about how we handle stress, and figure out how to ease our way back from being out of sync.
The questions explored in this episode are: How do you reset after a rough day, or a rough couple of days? How do you get back in control, when things feel out of hand?
Today's topic is about elementary and/or secondary school activities. We are going to reminisce about our time during our younger days in public school. Whether it's about our insecurities and our fears, or the dreams we used to have and still have, this light episode could give us something to reflect and even laugh back on. In this episode, we are going to talk about the incredible time of recess and lunch. Two big parts of our lives during our younger days in school, and possibly some of the biggest impacts it had on our lives growing up.
The questions we explore in this episode are:
Today's topic is about the games we play. At one point or another, we play a game that brings out our competitive spirit. And sometimes that spirit brings out the anger in us. Whether it is video games, sports, or board games, and any game in between, we all set some time aside to entertain ourselves with these activities. In this episode, we are going to talk about how some games can bring out our most competitive side.
The questions explored in this episode are:
Today's topic is about family and friends. We sometimes can't live with them, but definitely can't live without them. As we grow wiser, our circle of friends become tighter, and our definition of family becomes more and more defined. As we age, hanging out becomes increasingly an event planned. Because with so much going on in our lives that pulls us this way or that way, planning out our time can be crucial. Outside of our significant other, and immediate family, we try to make the most of our time to maximize time spent with people we love. In this episode, we'll talk about what's our preferred way of hanging out with friends and family outside our immediate circle.
The question explored in this episode is: What's your preference on hanging out with family and/or friends, one-on-one, or in a group?
Today's topic is about sleep. Sometimes we don't get enough of it, and other times we get too much of it. Wherever we fall on that scale of sleep, there is a never ending debate about how much is too much. Though it is acknowledged that there is a recommended amount, it seems just as fair that the right amount is subjective to the individual. In this episode, we're more curious about our personal habits of sleep. Sometimes we feel there's not enough time in the day to get things done, so we deprive it, or we're too excited for the next day to come and can't seem to get in some much needed rest.
The question explored in today’s episode: What's harder for you to do: waking up in the morning after a late night, or trying to sleep early with big plans the following day?
Today's topic is about materialistic items that we had recently purchased that brought us value, or didn't. Sometimes the things we splurge on, we do it so we can treat ourselves. But the novelty of those items can wear off. Some items are much quicker to wear off than others. Maybe it's just the thrill of being able to buy things, or work up to buy things, that gets us motivated. In a way like how we set goals, and then accomplish them, we save up to buy big on a materialistic item. In this episode, we talk about some recent materialistic items we had purchased, and if it had brought any value.
The questions explored in this episode are:
Today's topic is about goals. Not about setting them, that's more for another time, but our perspective on them. There can be a satisfying feeling when we cross off that last item on our to-do list, or get the same satisfaction from starting a new goal on a blank sheet. In today's very short episode, we explore reasons that creating a goal and/or accomplishing one can bring us the satisfying feeling that creates a foundation or stepping stone for us to catapult to the next one.
The questions explored in this episode are:
Today's topic is about time. The older and wiser we get, the less we need of anything else, in the material sense, and the more time we want for everything else. Sometimes we get stuck in the conundrum of having too much time with little to do, or too little time with so much to do. It would be amazing to have the superpower to control time, but even then, is it enough? In this episode, we will explore what it means to cherish our time and how we learn to figure out balance in our lives overall.
The questions we will explore in today's episode are as follows: a) What's more frustrating to you, having a lot of time with no plans, or having little time with too many plans? And lastly, b) Overall, when it comes to the concept of time, value is in having more. With so many options in how we can spend our time, how are ways you overcome decision paralysis?
Today's topic is about timeliness and being thoughtful. In our world, we value time and presence, and sometimes not always together. Time spent doesn't always equate to meaningful time. Or does it? In this episode, we will talk about our preference for time and thoughtfulness, and hear if it's more about personality traits, or a social construct we don't want to abuse.
The questions explored are as follows: a) What's more frustrating for you, being late to a meeting (personal or professional) or being forgetful? And b) what's your preference overall, timeliness or thoughtfulness? And what do you think are reasons others would prefer opposite of you?
Today's topic is about the new year and any goals we have that is rolling over, or looking forward to completing. Like an age old cliche, a new year can be an opportunity to start anew, or to become wiser from things we did and had learned in previous years. However we feel about it, we can't deny that the new calendar year is a reset for seasons. And as the cold season (hopefully) is rearing it's end, we look to doing things in warmer weather. Or maybe you had a great holiday season, and looking forward to the prep work for the next holidays.
In this episode, we'll talk about how we feel about going into the new year, and what plans we have in store for ourselves or hope to have.
Today's topic is again about snow. If you listened to our last week's episode, you heard us talking about the possibility that we would have a snowy, white Christmas here in the Pacific Northwest. Something that doesn't happen often here. Now that Christmas weekend has come and gone, we had our snowed-in holiday weekend (some are still snowed in), and we want to hear about how we typically spend these snowy days--past and present.
In this episode, we're going to hear about our snow day activities, now and when we were younger, and if snow on Christmas day felt like a blessing or a burden.
Today's topic is about snow. Christmas is this week, and at least here, it looks like a snowy weekend is coming. Though we associate the holidays with loved ones and gifts, traditionally, we see images of snow. Could it be about the purity, or because winter time always brings snow? Regardless, it's something that we either like or dislike depending on your traditions.
In this episode, we're going to reflect on something that may seem insignificant like the weather, but in the poetic sense, snow can be a symbolic gesture in our lives.
Throughout this episode, we talk about our weather preference when it comes to this time of the year. Additionally, we explore what we think about the symbolic meaning behind seeing prominent images of snow during the holidays. It can be something simple as the most seen weather during this season, or it can be something more poetic. Lastly, we talk about our favorite memories of snow.
In the end, we reminisce about our childhood and what snow meant to us. Snow and the holidays can be different for everyone, but we try to find solace in the peace it brings whenever this time of year arrives.
Today's topic is about holiday traditions. Even if we aren't thinking about it, or actively planning it, traditions can be those things or events we do during this time of year. Whether it be with family or friends, or just something you take time to do for yourself, just like habits are daily things, traditions are those once in a year habits we do. Is it something we make time for to recharge ourselves before the new year, or are they events we have to attend every year? Whatever our traditions, it's fascinating how it's all subjective and unique. In this episode, we talk about old and new traditions alike, and hopefully get us reflective or inspired for the start of the new year.
Throughout this episode, we talk about our past traditions and the ones that are near and dear to us. Those are the traditions that are rooted in the ones we love, and no matter the difficult times, we find a way to endure.
In the end, we talk about the moments we love and reflect on them. We also brainstorm traditions that we haven't yet started, but have always wanted to do during the holidays. These are traditions that help us stay inspired, or build upon traditions we already have.
Today's topic is about holiday shopping. Christmas season is here, whether you celebrate the holiday or not, the holiday season is when a lot of people typically end up a little lighter in the wallet. Shopping, shopping, and more shopping. Consumerism is on full display around this time of year, and no matter how hard we try to restrain ourselves, we end up emptying those wallets anyway.
In this episode, we're going to talk about our experiences with the holiday shopping season, and maybe shed light into why we spend too much, or how we are able to stay disciplined during this time of year.
Throughout this episode, we talked about how we "spend" during the holiday season, and spending doesn't always have to be in monetary terms. It seems from our own experiences, how we spend it, is a by-product (no pun intended) of one way during the holiday time showing the loved ones in our lives how we care.
In the end, there are many reasons that can drive us to spend during the holiday season. It can be because of marketing, reciprocity, or just because we love to give gifts to others, however you spend it during this time of year is all how we personally define it.
Today's topic is about habits. Especially the habits we have at night before we wind down to bed. Some of us have rituals, routines, or must-do's before we can be at a peace of mind to relax and go to sleep. Now it seems for some that are night owls, can have a harder time sleeping early regardless of whatever we do to relax before bed, but we still have some routine we have to take care of on the regular before calling it night. So even if you don't sleep at all, the sun sets at the same time for all of us, and we have to take care of those night time rituals, whatever it may be.
In this episode, we'll have a light-hearted conversation about what we must do before we transition from the day to the bedroom, or wherever we choose to call it a day.
Throughout this episode, we talk about our rituals and routines that we must do before we get into bed. Though routines are all subjective, we personally talk about what things that we habitually do to reset us and get us comfortable to sleep.
In the end, we talk about how we learned to figure out how these habits became ingrained in us, and we discuss how we can build on it, or remove it if it detracts from our personal efficiencies.
Thanksgiving 2021 is a few days away from the day of this recording. By the time you all hear it, it’s going to be the weekend after. Typically, this time of year calls for celebration and reflection on the year’s past and what we are grateful for. We’ve been through some strange times and the holidays can produce much needed positive vibes.
In this episode, we keep it light and talk about what we love about the holidays, and we look forward to this year.
Throughout this episode, we talk about what Thanksgiving means to us. How we spend it with loved ones and food, and how we look forward to it every year.
In the end, the rush of the holiday season may get us wound up from going from house to house, but it should teach us that what's most important is finding the time and patience to be in the moment.
Language is all around us, and at the root of it all, it is one of the greatest forms of communication because it is direct and it binds us in a culture of shared understanding. It can also be barriers, but it doesn't have to be if we take the time to learn and try to understand other languages.
In this fun episode, we have a quick discussion about languages in general, and which ones we would love to be fluent in (excluding English), and why it interests us in the first place.
Throughout this episode, you’ll hear takes on what languages interest us, and why.
In the end, language is all around us. And the more we let barriers down to try and understand them, no matter how minimal, will allow us all to continue to communicate more effectively.
Daylight savings just came and went last weekend. Fall back as the saying goes, so at this time, we get an extra hour back in our lives. The downside though, is that during this time the sunsets a lot sooner, giving us less daylight hours during the day. I recently read a short article about people in Finland or Norway (don't quote me) where during winter time they hardly get any sun. But, contrary to the belief that only sunny days make people happier (you know, vitamin D, etc.), the people here are happiest during these night (or dark) times. The reason is because they choose to focus on the things in the moment, or they choose to find something to be happy about. For instance, it's winter time, so more time to play in the snow, more time to cozy up by the fire with a good drink, or more time to spend intimately with loved ones. All in all, that is an interesting take in general, especially here in the US, where we complain sometimes of how little sun we get during the winter--at least we get sun?
In this episode, we aren't going into the history of Daylight Savings, or get into the psychology of the folks who don't get any sun during the winter time, instead, we are going to have a conversation about ourselves and if Daylight Savings even impacts us in anyway. Do we notice any changes in ourselves, or others?
Throughout this episode, we talk about what we like and dislike about Daylight Savings. Nothing more than just our opinion on the event, and how we experience it, or become impacted by it.
In the end, we didn't go into the history of it all, but we reflect on how it impacts our life, and how we can be more positive of having less or more time in our day.
November is finally here! And these last 2 months of the year are one my favorites and it’s when we enter the holiday season. During these times, the shopping lists come out, or we begin preparation for hosting or leaving out of town. Either way, this time of year sparks the imagination, or the inspiration, to get up and get things done.
In this episode, we talk about our vacation plans and say what’s our ideal time to vacation, and lastly see how it correlates with our current vacation schedule.
Throughout this episode, we share our favorite time of year that we would like to vacation, and furthermore, if it also happens to already be part of our vacation schedule, what activities or habits had caused us to appreciate the time of year for vacationing.
In the end, this episode was part reminiscing and planning for our next vacation, and part enjoying talking about how vacations are much needed to help us reset ourselves and inspire us for new things to come.
In the spirit of Halloween (as this episode will premier on Halloween Day), we discuss a (possibly) hypothetical question: what would it take for you to be locked up in a haunted house for the night? For many of us, the paranormal or supernatural have always been a part of our lives, or at least, within our peripheral. Some are very afraid of it, while some may totally embrace it--at least, the good parts of it.
In this episode, we have fun discussing the hypothetical scenario we find ourselves in (regarding a haunted house challenge), and what we would need to have with us to be comfortable in the situation.
Throughout this episode, we discuss fun scenarios on what it would take for us to feel (somewhat) confident in making it through the night in a haunted house. Whether it be having our favorite comfort items, joining a group of friends to tour it, or having religious protection, we all have different ideas of what it would take for us to feel strong enough to face our fears.
In the end, it is all fun to talk about. Actually doing it is a whole other subject. Even if money was on the line, is provoking the supernatural worth the prize?
I just recently finished watching a movie that was a part of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. For those that don’t know, they’re the production company that brought us movies like the Avengers, and all the side films that when watched, you realize are part of this universe—meaning all the movies connect to each other in one form or another. After the end of the film, and of course, after all the secret and bonus scenes during and / or after the credits, I’m left reflecting on the genius behind the production of all these movies. The way that it makes watching the films an experience, and how you don’t want to miss out on even one of the movies in the universe, or you’ll be left behind on some of the inside clues.
In this episode, we’re going to have a fun talk discussing each of our favorite 3 movies out of the marvel cinematic universe, and why we chose them. It could be any 3 movies, and in no particular order.
Throughout this episode, we each picked our favorite top 3 movies in the marvel cinematic universe, and explained our reasoning for each one.
In the end, it was interesting to hear about the movies we chose, and why. Overall, we shared our thoughts about our pros and cons about the production company and what it does overall for movies and comic culture.
I read an article recently that had an editorial piece about some common anxieties we get from work. And one of those anxieties is known as “Sunday Scaries.” I personally haven’t heard the term this way before, but I definitely know what it means. Simply it’s the idea, or phenomenon, that our Sundays are just full of anxiety because it’s the last day off before we are back at work the following Monday. But is this still true for our time now, when most of us are working from home full time, or at least on a hybrid schedule.
In this episode, we’ll have a talk about our experience with “Sunday Scaries,” and how familiar we are with it and how we deal with it.
Throughout this episode, we talk about our personal experiences about how "Sunday Scaries" impact us. It all impacts us in some way or another, especially depending on our job, or if any big deadline or project is coming up.
In the end, we also talk about how we try to be mindful about "Sunday Scaries" and how we try to resolve it as best as we can. There is no right answer, but we try to do what we can to keep ourselves in the right mind space.
We love sports around here. Watching it can entertain, inspire, and cause heartbreak amongst a few emotions that it stirs in us, as passive viewers. Some can say cheering on your favorite sports team is a culture of life, and others can argue that it is just entertainment that you switch on the same way you would do a movie or show on TV. For us as friends, we love talking about sports and wallow in the pride and pain of when our favorite sport or sports team is victorious or not.
In this episode, we have a fun and quick chat talking about why we fall so hard when our favorite team does.
Throughout this episode, we learn that watching sports and the athletes that play them, is not as far-fetched as watching our favorite comic book hero. Though they aren't fighting bad guys, athletes can be defined as heroes as much as any one hero with a cape. The same way that one definition of heroes is to inspire, professional athletes can do the same.
In the end, whether you like sports or not, we all find heroes and people or things that inspire us. Sports are no different from our favorite fictional characters.
Football season is back in full force. Most of us are excited weekly settling in with good food and good company watching the game on TV, or suiting up to stay warm while going out for the big game in person. The season also spells out the opportunity for friends to get together and play a friendly wager game called Fantasy, or just have loving banters against one another--especially if you have a friend who supports another team that rivals your own.
In this episode, we chat a little bit about one of our favorite time of the year for sports, and even though, it may not be the favorite sport for some, it is hard to deny the energy and the dynamic of the sport during this time of year.
Throughout this episode, we chat back and forth describing why football is fascinating to us. Though it's our own personal affection for it, it can be something that is passionate for a lot of people, even if they are not actively playing it.
In the end, sports is just purely entertainment for a majority of viewers. But what makes it so fascinating is how it can bring people together to cheer on a common team for a common goal (winning). We think the dynamics of how the sport is played, allows it to be one of the more interesting sport to watch and be interested in.
People are fascinated with stats. Sometimes the numbers reveal more depth into a subject or category than we had realized from our perspective on the surface. This can be in sports, in engineering, for example, and all kinds of topics with data. In the internet and information world we live in today, you can pretty much find stats in anything. I did a random quick look into a list of average working hours by country, and which ones were the top 5 in averaging the most working hours per year in 2021 for all its people.
In this episode, we are going to guess the top 3 on that list, try to guess why those are the countries on that list, and end it with a thought, why do we work as many hours as we do, and is it sustainable?
Throughout this episode, we don't go into much of the validity of the stats, but more of a fun guessing game and why the countries lead the way in most working hours.
In the end, we reveal that the top 3 countries so far with the most average working hours this 2021, are India, U.S., and Japan. From there we have a discussion of what if's; what if we had lesser working hours, and if we did, what would our country's work culture look like. Overall, we have a great fun discussion that leads to a more in-depth thought provoking conversation.
Continuing on with the theme from our previous episodes, like our conversation about materialistic things that impacts our life in one way or another, we dive deeper into choosing that one item that we have to take with us that can help us tremendously when starting new roots elsewhere.
In this episode, we discuss what that personal item is, what it has in common with the general population of the world, or what makes it unique to only ourselves.
Throughout this episode, we learn a spectrum of items that one can take. From one end it can be an item that is very personal and may be unique to one, and then on the other scale, might be an item that a majority of people may agree on taking.
In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. What one treasure may be vastly different from what another treasures. Overall, and though this question might be hypothetical, we all have that one cherished item that we would grab if we knew all other material items had to be tossed.
Life these days are all about conveniences. Whether that comes from the gig economy (Uber Eats, Door Dash, Instacart, etc), or just the ability to use our phones to navigate, for instance, we rely on getting things our way quick and efficiently with the least possible amount of movement and in-person interaction. That may be a controversial thing to say, but maybe not so much as you think about how many times you use these services in your own life.
In this episode, we do a quick and fun debate about "this or that." The "this or that" topic of the day is regarding drive-throughs--what is more preferable to have if you can only have one of it remain: drive-through restaurant or a drive-through and touchless car-wash? Lastly, we end the night with a thought-provoking question regarding machines and technology replacing humans in the service industry, and our thoughts on it.
Throughout this episode, we discuss why we prefer drive-through car-washes over drive-through restaurants, and vice-versa. To the last question of the night, we explain that from our reading about QR codes from an article, the data collected in that can be used by restaurant owners to utilize technology even beyond the days after the Covid pandemic. This has us debating and brainstorming all benefits, but also all backlashes to using the advancement of technology to replace human interaction.
In the end, we truly won't know how much technology will replace all of our labor. As of now, our opinion is that humans hold all the cards. It is about what can we truly automate without losing the human interaction side of it all? These are general questions that we can't answer, but it helps us ponder all the what if's. Only time will tell until then.
Fall is right around the corner from us. It’s incredible that we have gone through almost a full 2nd year of the pandemic (given your own definition of the pandemic, of course). Coming into the last quarter of the year, brings with it cooler weather, longer nights, and maybe a sense of holiday spirit soaring around you. However this Fall season makes you feel, there is a lot to unpack as we inch closer to a new year.
In this episode, we talk about our plans for Fall, and what we will look forward to as we round out this last quarter of the year.
Throughout this episode, we talk about one small change and one large change that we are looking forward to the most with the upcoming change in season--especially, it being the Fall season. However we define the change is subjective, but we enjoy our conversations planning and hoping for the future.
In the end, we hope that with whatever comes our way with these last four months, we hope for better things and good vibes to us and our loved ones, and the world around us at large.
In a world where we are surrounded with new tech—the latest phone, for example, or whatever latest gadget just dropped this very minute, we have so much to choose from and so little time to experience them all. It feels like it all comes down to our own lifestyle and how technology either compliments our life, improves it, or both. Similar to our previous episodes where we talk about favorite apps, and other favorite items, this episode explores what are our favorite pieces of hardware that we can’t see ourselves going about our lives without.
In this episode, we will try to limit our discussion to talking about our favorite 3 pieces of technology that either compliments our lifestyle, improves it, or both.
Throughout this episode, we talk about what our favorite pieces of hardware are, and how we can't live without them.
In the end, it was a fun conversation about technology and how it is so prevalent in our lives. We rely on them, and we use them to improve our lives even when we look to free ourselves from them. All around, we have to adapt, but understand that we should use technology to complement our life, not take it over.
Reading through a Twitter thread about random acts of kindness, I was reading about a topic on kindness and how the act of giving out compliments, she found that most people have a harder time accepting compliments. Acts of kindness in conversation, can fall in to either compliments or criticism.
In this episode, we have a light and straightforward conversation about acts of kindness, and defining it in regards to 2 general types: either compliments or criticism.
Throughout this episode, we talk about how we define compliments and criticism, and how we use it ourselves, and generally, how it may be perceived by others. We feel on the flip side, where we are on the receiving end of compliments and criticism, it's good to know how what we are saying to others is perceived, even if the intentions were good.
In the end, we feel it's all about perception, and being open to communicating honestly. Like all conversations, it's about giving and accepting, and maybe most times, it is okay to accept more often than give.
NFL season is back, and for us here and our friends, that means a few things that consistently happen every year around this time. Watching football and sharing in our angst or pride of being a fan of the same team. Additionally, most of us partake in games like fantasy football, or participate in banters about certain teams or players with loved ones and/or coworkers.
In today’s episode, we talk about our love for football and sports, in general. For instance, how and why do sports bring us together, or give us something to talk about in moments of silence.
Throughout this episode, we talk about how sports conversations can be compared to having "fair weather" conversations, or those water cooler talks with your co-workers. In opposite fashion, and from our opinion, sports talk can also be more passionate than "fair weather" talks depending on who you're talking with.
In the end, sports season is every season, but in our humble opinion, the Fall time with football is our favorite time of the year!
With streaming services being so much more prevalent in our lives, and access to incredible shows and movies at the touch of our remote, we can explore and enjoy entertainment all from the comfort of our home. The pandemic has increased this ability for us. New movies that traditionally debut in movie theaters first, are now simultaneously hitting streaming services for people to enjoy the debut without having to leave their homes.
In this episode, we discuss how the pandemic has shifted how we watch and access entertainment, and how our preference for going out to a movie event has changed.
Throughout this episode, we discuss our variety of reasons why we would prefer one venue over another when wanting to watch our favorite movie, or a debut. With traditional matters, we each weigh the pros and cons of each venue, and how each one appears to have equal weight depending on the situation at the moment--for instance, enjoying a debut with the comfort of your own home and own food, or the fact of being able to go out with friends to a shared commercial space.
In the end it always comes down to personal preference and your own comfort level. No matter how you view it, the idea of being able to have a shared experience in a physical space, or just being able to have the same access to a shared experience from wherever you are, is a new phenomenon of shared human experience that we will continue to see evolve.
At some point in time, it seems like we all start to collect things that we find interesting. Maybe as kids, you would collect rocks, or collect cards. As adults, we continue that urge to collect. It doesn’t have to make sense to others, as long as we enjoy it. From large and expensive items to free things we find already disposed of on the ground, why do we collect?
In this episode, we are going to do a quick exploration into our personal psyche of why we collect what we collect, and what emotions it brings to us.
Throughout this episode, we talk about all of our favorite things to collect as adults. With these items that we collect, we talk about the meaning behind them and what makes us appreciate holding on to it. It can be items that we pick up along our travels, or when we receive items that we are passionate about. Overall, it seems the items we collect helps remind us of the experience we had, and gives us a good reason to tell a good story about them.
In the end, we talk about how these items might bring out nostalgia, and how we pick these items up because of the memories we hold dearly. Whatever the reason, we all collect things no matter how small or large. And maybe through the items we hold, brings out the best stories to share. What are things that you collect?
I am sure there is data out there about how many pets were adopted or bought during the COVID-19 pandemic. I've heard terms like pandemic pets to describe the act of getting a pet during these trying times. I will admit that my partner and I fell into this category as of late. We are now pandemic pet parents after buying a puppy. For most who are in similar positions as us, outside of any other happenings, this time seemed to be a better time than any to get a pet--especially with us being fortunate to work from home at the moment. Being able to stay home allows us to afford more time to train and get acquainted with our newest family member.
In this short and very sweet episode, we discuss the pets in our lives, or that were in our lives, and how they have played a role in keeping us sane during the pandemic.
Throughout this episode, we took turns sharing our stories about our pets or pets in general. With heartwarming stories, we find common ground that our pets are more than just animals in our lives.
In the end, we end the episode feeling warm, and wanting to go hold our pets. Nothing better than a sweet reminder of the friends in our lives. And coming from a first time pet owner, there is something to be said about how pets unlock a new level of love.
Summertime is upon us, and here in the U.S., we are experiencing re-openings everywhere and trying to enjoy the sun with friends and family, again. For the first time in a long while during this pandemic, we are looking forward towards a new future with hopefully less anxiety and panic towards the virus that has happened upon us since the year 2020. With all the positive news, however, comes a new threat of the Delta variant of the Coronavirus. Now, we are no experts, just a couple of brothers getting together to discuss our lives and how we are trying to stay sane through all this. At face level, we are very much still in the pandemic, so this episode is figuring out how we are dealing with the updated news.
In this episode, we talk about our summertime plans or expectations of the moment--especially with news looking positive currently. Lastly, we will end our discussion with how we feel towards the lurking news of the new variant.
Throughout this episode, we reflect on our past year and half dealing with the pandemic, and contrast it to how our summer has been going on so far. Being able to be around friends and family we haven't seen in so long, and just being able to kick back and enjoy each other's company felt so relieving. For some of us, the suffering felt during the past year and half of this pandemic felt so surreal, and being able to go out and party with friends and family, and the public, again, felt like a dream come true.
In the end, we just don't know what to expect still. We have such optimism for this summer and the future, but we are still feeling like we are cautiously emerging from the hole we've been in.
Welcome to the 2nd 4th of July celebration of the pandemic. And as most of you all know from our series, the pandemic is still going on until we stop hearing about it, and maybe some form of normalcy comes back in the world. Last year in 2020, deep in the midst of the city lockdowns, the 4th of July still came and went. This year it seems we are nearing the end of widespread cautions because of vaccines, but how is this year any different now that we are all feeling like we are crawling out of a blip in time and stepping back to making things normal?
In today's episode, we are going to have a short discussion catching up on our 4th of July 2021 weekend, and how we feel if it's a sign of what to expect in the future of the Covid-19 pandemic. After all of our stresses and anxieties, our growth and reflections, and every experience beyond and in between, there is still some sense of the unexpected in our future.
Throughout this episode, we had a good time catching up on how we spent our time during the holiday weekend. We found that some of us did the usual tradition of going camping, and others just spent time with family. Overall, it seems like this Independence Day feels like the calm before the storm. Whether it leads to the end of the pandemic and a safer future, or it leads us a step or two back, is still waiting to be seen.
In the end, after sharing our stories, and how it was an overall great holiday weekend, we learned from our conversation together that, as always, we still don't know what the future holds for us in regards to the pandemic. Whatever comes our way, we all just have to continue to stay strong and support one another through it.
Social media is a large and mostly integrated part of our lives in one aspect or another. It seems unavoidable, for we find some way to make use of it, or some way to just interact with it. Some can argue that social media apps are a waste of time, bad for our mental health, or make us more disconnected from one another. Others can say it’s beneficial; it keeps us more connected, it helps us in business, it helps us create and grow our brand, and allows us to discover things around the world we wouldn’t have easily discovered, for example. With all that said, we’re going to have a fun discussion talking about a hypothetical and virtual future where our only form of interacting in life is through the use of only one social media app.
In this episode, we will imagine life without the physical world, and wonder what if we live life as we do now except you can only interact with the people and the world around you being tied to one social media app.
Throughout this episode, we chat about the favorite social media apps that we use daily, and why we use it. We both happened to agree on the same app, and we dive in to how useful and fun it is, and how it can apply to our lives if we were to use it to function and survive in a fully remote and virtual world. All hypothetical, and it was great figuring out how the one app can possibly help us continue to build relationships, pursue goals, and stay successful in our work.
In the end, we understand this is a hypothetical situation, and at the face of this conversation, it can just be a very simple dialogue about social media, or it can be deeper than it is and have us diving into the rabbit hole of how a world may look like if needed to rely on social media to survive.
Since the turn of technology and the advancement of personal computer devices powered with the internet at our fingertips, consumption of the media has been a growing part of our lifestyle. Even more so today while we are in this pandemic, no longer do we have to venture out to theaters, grocery stores, and restaurants to experience them--we have apps now to get us groceries and food. Also, video streaming services are allowing us to stream new movies at the same time they are released in theaters. More than ever we don't have to leave the comfort of our homes.
In this episode, we are going to quickly explore if the pandemic has caused us to be more consumers of media than before. Or, on the flip side, maybe it has caused us to consume less?
Throughout this episode, we acknowledge that technology was always headed in the direction of bringing us much comfort, but the pandemic seems like to have accelerated it. Though technology and media comes with its benefits, there are also saturations of the negative. The pandemic has showed us how to rely and consume more media, but it also has taught some of us to remove ourselves from the media that doesn’t benefit us.
In the end, we are still in the middle of a pandemic as of this writing. While we are still making our way out of it, we have to continue to live side by side with technology and hope it continues to elevate our lives.
For most of us, our friends and our family included, are vaccinated against Covid-19. Though the pandemic took us for a ride of a lifetime, we are still unsure of what "normal" life is going to look like when everything is opened back up, again. Most state mandates allow fully vaccinated people to go mask-less in public places, how are we feeling about the success of that so far?
In this episode, we are going to vent a little about how we feel this next stage (or, final stage) of the pandemic is going to look like, and how we are going to move forward towards the future.
Throughout this episode, we talk about what we imagine would be our anxieties as we try to navigate this next stage of the pandemic. The conversation is not geared towards fear, but facing the unknown. For instance, and at one point we were so in tuned to wearing masks--even if not for ourselves, just out of respect. Now that masks are no longer required in public places if you are vaccinated, it's a whole new landscape for all of us to try and navigate.
In the end, whether you are vaccinated or not, believe in the virus or not, or is just as indifferent now as when the pandemic first started, we all have to think about what the future holds as governments are easing restrictions finally. No matter what area of the spectrum we are on, we have to still continue to come together to carry the future and ensure it is in good hands for many more years to come.
Is new music that bad, or are we just getting old? Last week we talked about our taste in food, and this week we are turning to another light hearted episode talking about our taste in music. As you all know, music is very subjective and it is truly in the ear of the beholder (if that is even a saying?), you know what I mean? But is it that newer music is sounding bad to us, or are we just feeling jaded? Or, do we enjoy it sometimes? Let's dive in.
In this episode, we have a very fun and humorous episode talking about our favorite genre of music, and why we think today's music for the next generation are either bad, or we are losing our senses when it comes to accepting new music. Is this trend cyclical with every generation that precedes it, or are we going crazy?
Throughout this episode, we provided some insight into specifics of the new hit music we are not into, and why the type of music that we grew up on is causing us to feel jaded about new music. Overall, we understand that music is all subjective, and our opinion is just that, our opinion. And overall, it was good fun and laughs chatting cynically about music generally.
With optimistic news of vaccines and re-openings, for some, we are either still in a pandemic, or we are nearing the end of it. It is all one’s perspective, though, and every level in between. As you know, we started recording when the pandemic first started, and what better topic or topics to discuss, than to continue talking about being in it until we see the end of it.
In today's episode, we are keeping it short and sweet. We are going to talk about our favorite five course meal to treasure during the pandemic. Listen and / or read on to hear more.
Throughout the episode, we had a great time going back and forth discussing our favorite meals, that upon choosing them, will be our only entire meals to be eaten during the duration of the pandemic. It was fun discussing how for some of the meals chosen it was strategic for "survival," whereas for another, it was being selfish and hoarding the meals that they felt at most comfortable with. Overall, the meals chosen were tough, but reflected a great deal of our personalities.
In the end, we could've spun this discussion to far deeper plots, but sometimes it is okay and just as enjoyable to speak freely on small topics that have us thinking quickly on our feet. Bottom line, it made us hungry, and throughout the discussion, we hope it sparked some fun inspiration to get you chatting about your top 5 meals to treasure and hoard with you.
Whether it's a change in pace in our lives, or just a change in the weather, our mood tends to swing with them. We all know it's human to have a bad day, and when it comes to having those bad days, it's all about trial and error on how we figure out how to resolve those tensions. And the older and wiser we become, sometimes those bad days come through harder, and we consistently have to learn to adapt with them.
In this episode, we are keeping it lighthearted and talking a little about our feelings. Most specifically, what do we do to get into a good mood, or improve our mood, when we get in a bad mood?
Throughout this episode, we talk about all types of ways we may have bad days and / or bad moods, including all of our trigger points. Whether that comes from our pet peeves, or just negative energy that we encounter during the day, we are all human and it's part of life to have these bad days or moods. There is not ever a right or wrong way to have a bad day, and it is all subjected to our own lives. So however we deal with it, it is a lifelong journey on how to combat those stresses that come with bad moods.
In the end, we talk about how we try the best we can to combat those stresses. What are our own personal best practices to deal with bad days, and how to ensure that we try to stay as healthy as possible. Stress and bad days are typical things that come up in our lives, how we choose to deal with them, can make the biggest difference in our lives.
The pandemic has shifted a lot of our perceptions. Whether that be the way we view our society, our culture, or our state of being, it seemed like we all underwent some sort of change that impacted our lives. For me, the shift from working from home full time has definitely caused me to be more of a night owl. How can I get more done in a day without going to bed early, especially when I know that I don’t have to commute anywhere to get to work?
In this episode, we’ll have a fun discussion talking about how the pandemic has changed us from being more of a night owl from a morning bird, or vice-versa. Or, maybe it hasn’t changed us at all, and we continue to be the durable robots we were designed to be!
Throughout this episode, we discussed our current routines, and how we are as either morning birds or night owls. The pandemic definitely shifted our routines, but there are lessons that can be made either way. The key, which is easier said than done, was finding balance and also figuring out the ability to adapt. Most importantly we noted how the pandemic is also impacting our mental health. For some this may be a hard transition, where for others, working from home has allowed them to thrive more. Either way, we discuss many different aspects of how the pandemic has impacted our routine, and how it may cause us to be more rebellious when we come out on the other side of the pandemic.
In the end, our conversation is all speculative, and just formulated from our own experiences. We understand that the pandemic is stressful for many, and at more levels than just a work-life balance. We hope as always, that through all the stresses, we all continue to find ways to maintain our health as we all try to navigate these seemingly nonstop tumultuous times.
Relying on our computers and connectivity to the internet is increasingly a huge part of our lives. I can vaguely remember when I didn't get my first cell phone--flip phone, to be exact--until I was in my late teens. Nowadays, it feels like a lot of babies are learning how to control an iPad from the moment they are born! Everyday we are glued to our phone's screens for something or another. Whether it is helping us navigate a city, or helping us find some new eats, we are looking to it more and more to bring value to our day to day life.
In this episode, we are not going to be disputing this fact of life, and instead, cherish the technological advancement in our lives, and talk about our favorite 3 apps on our phone (or, computer in general) that we can't live without.
Throughout this episode, we enjoy talking about our favorite 3 apps that we use daily. We understand that though we may have closer to 5 top apps that we use everyday, we had a good time racking our brains trying to figure out only 3 apps. Afterwards, we dived into the final question of the night, where we discussed what these 3 chosen apps say about us. In other words, do those 3 apps we had chosen, coincide with our personality or how we view ourselves? Even if it appeared that we were trying hard to connect how our apps reveal to us how we are as people, it does feel like how we are very in tuned with our technology, it would make sense that the most used apps would relate to our personality.
In the end, it does appear that the apps we choose to use often play a large role in how we live our lives. For some, this could mean that we rely on our apps to keep our lives in order, or we partner with it to keep our lives entertained and connected. However we use our technology, it is something to discuss further in-depth, especially as our lives become more integrated with it.
Video games are a big hobby for most of us. It is its own community, and in OSYL, we talk about it often and the impact it makes on all people. Whether it frees us virtually from the stresses of the pandemic, or we treat it seriously like a profession, videos games are all around us to enjoy in some form or another.
In this episode, we have a quick discussion on sports video games, and how we may prefer it sometimes to physically playing the actual sport. Or vice versa.
Throughout this episode, we discuss a lot about the dichotomy of playing the actual sport live, and playing it as a video game. Though they both stimulate our senses in its own way, there are critical (and obvious) differences. Sometimes playing a video game can be beneficial in more ways than just gaming and pleasure, and playing the sport live can be as much detrimental to our health as it is beneficial. Though everyone has their own experiences, we can all agree that sports can help us feel good in various ways.
In the end, it appears that when it comes to sports, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy it. For some, playing the actual sport brings great pleasure, and for others, the freedom to play it in a video game brings just as much joy to the imagination. Bottom line, and just like anything else in life, do what makes you better. If it doesn’t harm anyone in the process, don’t let the judgement of others keep you from doing what you enjoy.
For most of us, it seems like this week or this month, we have been gathering steam in being busy bodies, again. With being busy, sometimes we start piling too much on to our plates, and we start juggling too many things. Dividing and subdividing our attention, we start to stress out a little bit and become burned out. Whether we are starting to experience this burnout this month, will possibly get it, or is still experiencing it from the long and on-going pandemic, it's nice to catch it head on, or be proactive about it. In today's episode, we are going to de-stress and talk about how we have been prioritizing our time so far, or how to combat it when we are starting to feel the burn.
In this episode, we each share some stories about how we are prioritizing our time, specifically when it comes to work and life balance. Though we are still feeling some sort of burnout from the year long pandemic, we look daily to find normalcy and find ways to keep grinding through the day.
Throughout this episode, we talk about what we are juggling with, and how we are confronting stress and time management issues head on. Though there is no one right answer, this is our own personal experience and how we see it working for us.
In the end, we conclude this short episode by providing a few solutions on how we personally combat stress and burnout in our lives. When it comes to time management, we discussed how we would scale back, and write down all of the things we have to do, and prioritize based on deadlines. For the work we have to do that doesn't have any deadlines, we believe there is always time that can be found. Whether we find time to work, here and there, we de-stress by making it fit. Lastly, we talk about how sometimes burnout is a long term issue, especially during this pandemic. One thing to stay focused on is to always try and find ways to take care of your own personal well-being. Look to always take care of all aspects of your own health, and hopefully, when things shape up to whatever sense of normal can be had, we would be ready for it.
There are many books that are memorable to us as kids. Whether we were avid readers, or the moment of being read to by a loving guardian or favorite teacher just evokes the peacefulness that comes with remembering that story. For us, books cultivated our imagination, and as we grew older, sometimes we forget about it and having a creative and active imagination is a distant memory of our past youth. But for the books that we remember, something about their story or message stayed with us well into adulthood. And whether to that individual that story brought back great memories of our youth, or it was a staple way of living that helped us navigate the rough terrain of adulthood.
In this episode, we discussed our favorite books from childhood. Together we agreed or disagreed, and reminisced about our favorite book, or series of books that we remember well into adulthood. Some agreed upon books were the Harry Potter series, Holes, and other favorite past time stories and novels. Overall, we appreciate the fun conversation that these stories have brought to us.
Throughout the episode, we discussed the elements of these childhood books and stories that resonated with us, and probably, the general age group we are in. Sometimes it was the story itself that we remembered, but other times it was remembering the moment that we heard or read the book. This could be remembering a fond time we had with our parents when we would read together, or just remembering how a teacher would read it animatedly that inspired us to recall the story. Bottom line, books served as a reminder that our memories are intertwined with a good story.
In the end, we ended with a good question about which is better, the book or the film remake of the book? We had a good back and forth debate for and against each. Overall, stories, whether in book or film form (or other mediums), will be around to inspire us for generations.
A year ago, when the Covid-19 pandemic first began, most of us found it as an opportunity to focus on more self-care. The thought that this was nature's way of telling us to slow down in life, this felt like an amazing time to re-focus on what truly matters, and that is trying to hunker down on finding the intrinsic nature of what makes us loving humans. This could be taking care of the temple that is our body, learning a new skill or finally taking up that new hobby we had been pushing back, or just finding peace of mind. Whatever it is, we felt like this is the golden opportunity to take advantage of the time. Little did we know, what we thought would be a short break to take care of ourselves, turned into a long, long time to do so. Though we may have re-discovered ourselves, the stresses of not knowing what to expect of our future became a worthy adversary.
In this episode, we get together talking about our routines and how we are still trying to stay sane and healthy a year deep into the Covid-19 pandemic. For most of us, we thrive in routine and finding purpose to our day to day life, and with the stresses from the 2020 year, we are confronted with how successful our mindset and our goals are while we attempt to endure the lasting challenges.
Throughout this episode, we agree that most of us come from a set routine background--even before the pandemic. During the pandemic, our routine is the same for the most part, but the long trek we are in, is causing some form of cabin fever and it is causing us to rethink the mundane, and try to continue to find our purpose to stay motivated everyday.
In the end, trying to find new perspectives, or finding new ways to stay refreshed, is one healthy way to keep our mind, body, and spirit thriving as best as we can during this long pandemic. Whatever we do to stay healthy, is always our own prerogative. We understand there isn't going to be one right answer to keep our spirits high, but whatever we do, let us keep the empathy towards one another and let us continue to build towards peace.
Exactly a year ago, approximately April 2020, us here in the States entered a stay-at-home order in order to try and prevent the spread of Covid-19. Meanwhile, professional sports around the country began taking measures to follow government orders and protect their players by either postponing seasons, or limiting their games in some form. Because of sports closing during the pandemic, a group of us who share in being sport fanatics (especially for our local teams) got together to start an episode on the importance of Sports during the pandemic. In that episode, we discuss how we will miss spending time watching and discussing it with family, friends, and co-workers, and though we understand athletes need protection from the virus, too, we figure this is a good break to dedicate time to finding new hobbies. Overall in that episode, we figured that life-safety for all, outweighed our want to watch the athletes play for our entertainment. In hindsight, we didn't think the pandemic would have extended over the period of a whole year. Additionally, sports began re-opening throughout the year. Little did we know that as important as we thought sports was in our life, a precedent of other issues took over and we began to re-think our priorities.
In this episode, we reflect on the year as it related to sports in the pandemic. We talked about how our mindsets have shifted to other dedications, but how old habits die hard. Sports, at least for us, is a mainstay and a community we enjoy belonging too. Though you will hear throughout the episode how we realize sports may not be the strongest advocate for community and combating social issues overall.
Throughout this episode we started our conversation about how we used to believe--before the pandemic--how sports played a large role in being a unifier. Especially for our country, sports brought everyone together regardless of gender, politics, and religion, to name a few factions. Though as we have seen late into the year 2020, not only is the pandemic causing a lot of stresses, but many social and cultural issues have came to light that shifted a lot of our personal and world views. We discussed how Sports have participated in the social movements and its effectiveness. Overall, have our perspective on sports shifted away from a community builder, to just an entertainment vehicle?
In the end, whether sports still remains a large staple in our lives, or we outgrew its priority over the duration of the pandemic, it will still definitely be a large part of the media. Sometimes people look to sports for inspiration, or an escape, but it goes to see if it can evolve to do much more in helping us relieve our stresses during these trying times.
Back when the pandemic first started here in the states, it began a whole new societal shift. The stay at home order caused us to stay locked down and tend to our own personal devices. In hindsight, we probably thought this was a good time to start more self care, and little did we know, that we would actually miss seeing and being around other people. Around this time last year, there was a huge boom in online gaming, or just interest in gaming in general. A lot of folks popularized the game Animal Crossing as an escape from the stresses of our lock down order and tried to find virtual ways to connect with one another. Our guests today were part of that original discussion a year ago. Though gaming was and is still a big part of their lifestyle regardless of the pandemic, we would like to get their thoughts on how they think the culture of gaming has continued to evolve because of the pandemic, or have the hype died down for those casual gamers?
In this episode, we catch up with our guests who joined us on a conversation over a year ago, and discussed the topic of gaming as a hobby or an escape from the stresses of the pandemic. Overall, it was a great episode because we were able to get a different perspective on how the pandemic has been for them, and how they feel about the state of gaming as it generated a lot of hype around the 2nd quarter of the year 2020.
Throughout this episode, we talk about how the hype appears over for casual gamers, but for the avid gamer, the pandemic has caused a plethora of games to appear regularly. Some opinions are that the gaming industry took advantage of the hype and the stay-at home orders, and began to pump out too many games. The cause is a domino effect: gamers can't keep up with the new games being put out, and developers appear to be in a never-ending competition to one-up other developers. This causes a saturated market, and for the avid gamers, this causes them to have a short attention span.
In the end, gaming industry and the gaming culture has been around and established far longer than the pandemic's hype. For casual gamers, or those who weren't gamers prior to the pandemic, either took up new hobbies or moved on from it shortly after the hype had dissipated. For the avid gamers, the culture of gaming continues, and they are looking forward to more of its advances. For most, the pandemic didn't change much of their views on the gaming culture, and for some others, though gaming may not be their preferred hobby of choice, it definitely provided them with an option to escape when needed.
It has been a complete year since our world here in the States flipped upside down. Or stalled, or however you would like to call it. As of the time of this episode, it was approximately the end of March 2020 that our government had issued a stay-at-home order hoping to prevent the spread of Covid-19. In hindsight, we all thought the lock downs for the pandemic would've only lasted a few months at most. Looking back on the year since, we see that the pandemic was a lot worst that we could've imagined, and we are still in it regardless of vaccine roll-outs.
In this episode, we catch up and reflect on our lives so far as we made it to a whole year since the pandemic had started over here in the States. If you had been a listener of our podcast since the beginning, we started the Rona Series inspired by how we are living through these strange times. As we had a great time sharing our stories throughout those episodes, we would have never thought that it would have been going on this long.
Throughout this episode, we discussed how even though vaccines are finally rolling out to eligible people worldwide, we are still in pandemic. Over the course of the year, we definitely have experience shifts in cultural norms, for instance, required wearing of masks in public. Though this doesn't seem like a total issue, it has caused some stress and disparity that we won't go into too much of the politics in this episode. It is eerie to note that the biggest news before the first stay-at-home orders had began was the Spring Breakers in Miami. And now that we near the one year anniversary of those lock downs, we are again seeing reports of Spring Breakers in Miami. Though we are not advocating this is a causation of the pandemic, it is something to note. We hope that with vaccines, we are closer to slowing the spread and getting back to what once was considered normal.
In the end, it has definitely been a wild year that shifted a lot of attitudes and cultural norms. Though the pandemic was a huge factor, a lot of other social issues combined with this definitely caused a huge change. Through it all, it's not clear what will happen when we are fully able to get back to pre-pandemic levels of being social. Until then, we have to continue to find ways to show kindness and support for one another.
There is a fascination with the unknown, the unexplainable, and the conspiracy. The way that stories fuel our imagination, something about the paranormal fuels the same and a want to reason with what we cannot fully comprehend. Some may not exactly believe in ghosts or aliens, but paranormal events can extend beyond the spirit world or outside the solar system.
In this episode, we discuss our personal fascination with watching or hearing about the paranormal. We also share some of our encounters, and talk generally about what reasons there may be for others to be fascinated with these topics, too.
Throughout the episode, we discuss personal encounters with the paranormal. Though most of our experiences were positive, it brings to light a plethora of questions and debates. For instance, we try to debunk it as reasonably as we can. Does our culture, our imagination, or our fears play a large role in how we view the paranormal? Can our pre-notions of an event, subconsciously manifest that event? For example, Tyler discuss his experience, and it seems that it could have been possible that the stories setting the stage of this possible haunting caused his imagination to run wild.
In the end, no matter our beliefs, there are things we cannot explain. We probably won’t ever know if we will even be able to explain it with reason. Maybe it’s part of the life we lead, and that things around us aren’t always explainable by our senses. For better or worse, it appears part of our side journey in life, is to co-exist with the unexplainable, and that is what makes it all so fascinating.
Marriage in our generation appears different. No longer do we feel it is the ultimate goal and to not obtain it would be failure. In our age of technology and information, it appears just like our flexibility with work, our timeline for certain traditions is at a different pace than previous generations are used to.
In this episode, we bring the 3 part episode regarding generation differences to a close with our discussion on the expectations versus reality of our concept of marriage. The follow up questions are about how we view marriage in our generation, and how it ranks in our life's goals compared to previous generations.
For some of us, we remember when we were very young, and we were taught that by the time we see the age of our mid-20's, the fairy-tale success is that we must be married by that time. If we can go back in time, we will let our younger selves know that that is no longer the goal--not marriage, more of the timeline of when we would want to get married. As the world changes, especially quickly it seems in our generation, we learn to take the toll from different influences and then produce our own version of adaptations to it. This includes the traditional pressure of needing to get married at a certain time. It feels that what truly can make us happy is doing things all at our own pace, including marriage.
In the end, marriage is wholly consent between 2 individuals committed to each other. Not just for love, but consent and communication between how they view their definition of marriage against how society defines it. It is believed that official matrimony no longer needs to be confined to the definition by law, but by the agreement per the 2 consenting individuals. If living in love with each other for decades with no official ceremony is considered marriage, then that is what that couple can define it as. And no one else can ever dispute that.
In this episode, Tyler and Steven partner up to answer the follow up discussion points from last week's episode. As a reminder, last week's topic was about how to deal with the realities of our generation while in conflict with the expectations that parents expected of us. This week's question is as follows:
When it comes to our professional lives and our living situations, what do you see are the generational differences?
Throughout our episode, we noted the differences between the generations per our own experiences and our own opinions. It appears that our parent's generation tend to rely on more stability and less risk when it comes to their professional lives. Compared to our own generation (the age of information and technology), it appears that we tend to be more flexible in regards to our professional lives. However, we reflected that being in the age of information and technology, can be a negative, too. Maybe we are more flexible, or more likely to move around to various jobs, because we are bombarded with so much information that we can't seem to make up our mind. Whereas our parents tend to know what they want and stuck with it.
In the end, we think both generations just want to work hard and succeed. When our parents push us with their expectations, that is how they envision us working hard and finding our own success and finding who we are in the process. It is discussed that with our generation, the same work ethic can look different than our parents; no longer do we have to go to school to make millions because we have various options on how to still be successful without always doing it the traditional way. Our parents are just not used to it so that is why they push expectations on us. But in the end, when we learn and succeed, we can probably learn how to connect and close the gap in our generational differences.
Growing up in the millennial generation (and more specifically, in an Asian household), there were many strict rules including the expectations bestowed upon us from our parents. We were expected to find success, which is most obvious, but sometimes the greater disconnect from their intentions was what appeared to be a lack of trust from them. In this episode, we took a question from one of our listeners and discussed how we dealt with the realities of growing up versus the expectations from our parents.
We felt like our parent's generation had to grow up quicker than we had. Not to say the difficulties of growing are not the same, we all had to deal with life differently. Another point of contention that may differ from our parent's generation: living with our significant other before marriage. It seems like expectations of yesteryear from our parent's generation was to look forward to moving in with your partner after marriage. From our generation, it seems more often we are living with our partner before marriage. Throughout the episode we talk about our opinions on that topic.
In the end, we had a great discussion talking about our culture, our parents, and reminisce about the lessons they have taught us. It seems that we find a lot of commonality in how our parents had raised us was out of love and just wanting the best for us. Even if it may not be the best parenting style, we conclude that if you learn to communicate with your parents, regardless, you can learn to communicate with anyone.
How would you know what to do with 1 million dollars, if you were given it and had ONLY 24-hours to spend it? Furthermore, what if the only limiting rule is that you could NOT spend it on yourself for financial gain? Most of us don't have a plan if 1 million dollars was to magically appear in our account. Even if we had dreams of what we would do with it, it seems that with limiting rules on what we can do with it, not many of us would know what to do with it.
In this episode, we chose to make it a light episode on finance. Thinking of it as an ice breaker for other possible financial episodes. The question that we answer today is:
Throughout the episode, we discussed how we would spend the 1 million dollars within 24-hours with the limitations imposed on the spending. If not for financial gain, our natural human instincts kick in and we look to the following: either spending immediately to our materialistic urges, or spending on the people we care about. If we can't pay off our debts or invest in ourselves for financial gain, some of us can find ourselves running to the nearest electronic store and shoving all the items into a cart. Others, can immediately buy a suite to party with all their friends and family for a weekend. Overall, it seems like with a deadline, we don't really know how to spend it properly.
In the end, we talk about how with limitations and a deadline, we don't really know how to spend it properly. However, it seems like we fall generally into 2 categories of spending with those rules in place if we are pressured: spend materialistic on ourselves, or spend on friends and family. Though this episode was a great exercise for us on how to prepare for this magical event, we know that if on the flip side that we had no limitations to spending the 1 million dollars, we would be prepared to make it multiply and invest it. Money can bring many issues, but if we talk and plan about it beforehand, it can give us less stress and more ability to spend it wisely.
Valentine's Day in the U.S of A. For some, it can be an eventful day that people look forward to every year, or for others, it can be just another day to avoid the fanatics in public. However we look at it, it can hold a special place in our hearts, or we can be cynical about it. Overall, we have to acknowledge its history, and how it came to be, and then make our own decision on how we celebrate it.
In this episode, Steven and Tyler teams up for a third week in a row to tackle the following question:
How do you think Valentine’s Day 2021 will be impacted because of the ongoing pandemic? Generally, and/or personally?
Throughout the episode, Tyler and Steven discuss Valentine's Day from their point of view. From a macro stance, they both agree that though Valentine's Day is not too special to them personally, they feel on an economic sense, restaurants will be the most impacted. Keep in mind, this is the first Valentine's Day impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It may seem that Valentine's Day is a fairly capitalist holiday. Some can potentially argue that with stats. Overall, they concluded that like any other holiday, make it your own.
In the end, a holiday can be just like any other day of the week, or it can be whatever you choose to make it. It appears all holidays, even the major federal ones, are not worth the hype because it is all subjective to one's own traditions. Make your own traditions, or just choose to not participate. We all have our own free will about it. Happy Valentine's Day, or have a happy day-after where you can find all candies up to 75% off!
Death is an inevitable part of life. No matter where we turn, it's part of human nature that we see, hear, or experience some form of death in our lives. Death can impact us both directly and indirectly. The way we deal with it is an experience that we are all too familiar with, yet, we don't generally talk openly about. How do we comprehend it?
In this episode, Tyler and Steven team up, again, to tackle the following question: how do we mourn a loved one that had just passed away?
In this episode we share our personal experiences with death. Specifically as it relates to a loved one who had recently passed within the recent decade. The question we ponder is how do we mourn? We come to learn that there is no right answer--definitely no wrong way to mourn either. The way we mourn is personal, and individualize to the that individual that is impacted by the death--again, regardless if directly or indirectly. During the discussion, we share ways that honor the passed. Whether that is remembering them on their birthday, or learning to carry on their legacy, whatever that may have been. Lastly, we discussed the difference between mourning and grieving. And before looking it up via the dictionary, we discussed how grieving is the internal and most times, discombobulated way of trying to comprehend the death. In contrast, mourning is after figuring it out internally, and it becomes the external showing of our feelings towards the death. It appears there is a lot of overlap between the two forms of coming to terms with someone's passing, and again, no right or wrong way to do it.
Throughout the episode, we reflect, we think, we laugh, and we feel as we talk about this very human essence of our lives. We talk about death in entertainment and culture, and how mourning, grieving, and overcoming are reflected in them. It is all around us, all we can do is continue to be kind and loving to each other. Death seems to happen every day regardless of its directness to us. Be kind, we don't ever know what a stranger had been through. For those who we loved and had passed, it feels like in our strength of our memory of them alone, can bring enough power to keep their spirits alive--even if it is just in our own hearts.
During this pandemic, there are many stories about how this period had allowed us to discover new hobbies, or pursue hobbies we had previously neglected. If anything is for sure, this pandemic has threw all of our lives into a loop, and most of us come of out of it looking for new meaning to our day to day lives. But with all this soul searching, there is a lot of time spent at home, too. One pastime that has increased during this time, is watching shows and movies at home. One documentary in particular that has piqued our interest is the documentary on minimalism--"The Minimalists: Less Is Now." Though not related to the pandemic and how to survive or enhance our lives during it, it is a new perspective to shake up our life, anyhow. The idea that there our many things / stuff that are unneeded and cluttering our living spaces is holding us down. The question posed in the documentary, and what we will explore on our own in this episode, is how might our lives be better with less?
In this episode, just Tyler and Steven join in to answer this one enlightening question. That question is: how might your life be better with less?
We live mostly in a capitalist society. A majority of us are fortunate to earn more, and that typically means that we spend more. And most of those times, we are spending on items that makes us temporarily happy, but we don't really need. A cool quote from the documentary is that on average, each household in the United States have about 300,000 (thousand!) items. A majority are probably little items that we can clear and de-clutter. As I look around my own room, I am getting the urge to purge of various things that I know I can get rid of and remove permanently from my life. I'm looking at boxes of old electronics that I quite literally have no use for, old charging cables that are ripped (and most likely unusable), and tons of old pieces of paper that I can simply recycle. The supplemental question we ask throughout our discussion, is why or when, did we develop such emotional ties to materialistic items?
In the end, it feels like an endless journey on how we can improve our lives. Maybe discarding unnecessary items that just becomes clutter can help us feel like letting go of some weight. Or, maybe it's all in our heads, and clutter doesn't really impact anything at all. Bottom line, however we choose to live our lives, there is no one right answer that fits all. Find what makes you happy. This weekend, I may take the challenge of finding one item (or, more!) a day to get rid of and de-clutter my home. Living light, may make me feel lighter and freer in the process. Who knows? Worth a shot.
At the end of any Championship in Sports during the 2020 season, is there going to be an asterisk? As we approach the end of the NFL season, many of us kind of consider any 2020 sports season as “not real” in a sense. There were so many restrictions, less games, and parts of the game that were just… missing. Did those parts play a big part in the outcome of some games? Probably. Did some teams have an advantage based on what state they were from? Probably. At the end of the day, we can’t really change how those outcomes have played out, but we can still have a “what if” scenario.
In this episode, we continue our discussion about sports during the coronavirus pandemic. From the 1st episode about sports, we talked about how strange it would be for sports to return during the pandemic; the 2nd episode, we speculated how the return of professional football is just as strange since it is a full contact sport; the 3rd episode, after professional football has been played and watched for many weeks now, we share our thoughts on the season; and now, in the 4th episode, we talk about how the seasons have finished up, take a look at how crazy it was, and whether some teams got lucky with the hand they were dealt.
In this episode, we welcome the return of our special guests, Jerrol, Jomar, and Ray, as they had participated in the previous 3 sports episode. We all got together to catch up on sports and our fantasy teams, and discuss the following 2 questions overall:
Legacies are a huge part of our conversations. Whether we are actively aware of it or not, every action we make is another notch in the story we leave at the end of our journey. To the average person, we may not always have a book or film made in our honor, but through our daily impacts, we hope that it leaves imprints long after we are gone. As mentioned in our episode, legacies are abstract thoughts until we depart from this world. However you contemplate the after life, we all want some form of recognition or remembrance. Just like the previous episode (our discussion on mortality and the meaning of life), the idea of mortality and grievances is all subjective. There seems to be infinite ways we feel and embrace our lives. The idea of legacies is similar. It is all subjective, and there appears to exist infinite legacies, and more still being created.
In this episode, the same 3 that was on the previous episode link up again to continue their thoughts on legacies. The questions they discuss are:
We all have an idea of how we want to be remembered. Whether to be framed in a stoic pose we have imagined for ourselves, in the foundation we have established, or in knowledge and emotions we have departed and instilled in others, there is no right or wrong answer of how we leave a legacy. The idea of leaving a legacy is like writing a summary of our lives. Though written, the act of writing it can actually just be a metaphor. Either way, whatever we attempt to leave behind, there isn't ever a timeline of when to accomplish it. Just like goals, they are never ending and always evolving. No matter our triumph or failures, our legacies continue to be written and rewritten, it's more of a matter of how we decide on what we want to leave behind.
For some, our legacy is defined by carrying on and forward existing legacies. The inspiration from what our forefathers have done to establish a foundation of wealth (more than monetary terms, of course) for generations, we may want to continue that trajectory in their memory. For instance, we may look up to our grandparents who sacrificed a lot to make it as immigrants in a foreign land, and worked hard to establish their own credibility. In what they had established for us, we find motivation to take it further for the continuing sake of the family and our family's future generation. In the end, no matter where you want to excel--be it at work, school, or family--we act on some sort of inspiration to get us through our day to day life. And however we define it, it feels like part of the journey is figuring out what we want to leave behind.
How would we know there is life after death? Some spend hours, maybe even years contemplating the afterlife. To do so takes a lot of energy--brain power--and it can be all for nothing, or can we will it into existence from our very thoughts? In other words, it all depends on our personal beliefs. For instance, depending on what religion you believe in, you could believe in heaven or believe in reincarnation. Though we discuss that death is universal, how we are impacted by it, how we believe in it, and how we grieve from it all is independent and subjective.
In this episode, the usuals, Steven, Tyler, and Andrew tackle the deep questions, and contemplate over them. Those questions are:
When thinking about the afterlife, we discuss how attending funerals, or thinking about the passing of others, can sometimes cause sadness, and other times, can cause a sense of acceptance, for example. Regarding acceptance, how we grieve for others can also be dependent on our beliefs. If we believe in spirits, we can find comfort in believing that our loved ones are protecting us. In other beliefs, we can feel at peace knowing that our loved one is in a better place that is peaceful and probably free of pain. Overall, we discuss how we all can react to the idea of death, even though there is no right or wrong answer on how to deal with it.
In the end, it all depends on our own beliefs. Some accept that death is inevitable, and because of this revelation, they do what they can to live life to the fullest. For instance, to accept the thought of death, in contrast, makes the idea of living shine in a brighter light. However we think about it, just know that you're not alone in it. Talk about it together, and see how we all can improve each other's views, and ultimately improve all of our way of life.
Some believe love can be unconditional. Love can be kind, and always supportive. All of the cliches--you can name them. But it appears with any type of emotion (or, action), there are limitations. How far can we go before we reach the thresholds of our love for someone else? What are our boundaries where we draw the line, and cut off our love for someone? Easier said than done, but we all have to make that difficult choice in our life sometime. There can be many scenarios. It could be with friends, not just family. It can be with strangers and acquaintances, but at the end of the day we seek connection. With connections, we form relationships with boundaries--whether these boundaries are explicit, or not. It can be the toxicity of someone's personality, and how we deal with them, all comes down to our personal choice.
In this episode, we join our special guest, Ally, who is back for the second time after a great episode the week before, and we then take turns tackling the following group of questions for this fire round:
When it comes to personal choice, some believe that figuring out boundaries with others is about respect. When respect becomes tainted, some cut ties, while others give out second chances--if it's warranted. During the show, some discussed that it's about showing kindness and respect when showing boundaries, other believe that the wiser age, the more valuable our time is, and so it's not worth keeping toxicity in our lives.
On the extreme side, we discuss hypothesis about loved ones. How extreme is extreme before we cut ties. We discuss hypothetical scenarios and movie scenes, but it's hard to discuss when it's a situation you haven't been in. For some, how much of a hard crime would it take for you to cut ties with your loved one? As fun as it is to discuss these scenarios, we hope that we don't find ourselves ever having to make those choices.
Times are hard during the covid-19 pandemic. Some find themselves lucky to remain able to keep a steady job, even more so to work remotely from their offices, and others find themselves temporarily out of work, or still reeling from the negative effects of the economy during this time. As government assistance is requested for at an all time high, we await another round of stimulus checks to be approved. At the time of this writing, the government is close to approving another round of stimulus checks (2nd of the 2020 year). While we wait for it to show up in our bank accounts via direct deposit, or mailed to our addresses, we wonder what if it was a normal thing for us to receive government assistance the likes of a universal income--for instance, every U.S citizen will receive $1000 per month, unconditionally. While we debate this topic, and philosophize how it can both be beneficial and unsustainable, we really don't have any right or wrong answers for this theory. Note we say theory, because we are all U.S citizens who have not personally experienced this universal income.
In this episode, we join our special guest, Ally, in discussing the topic on universal income. She joins the usuals, Tyler, Steven, and Andrew (missing Zvon), and they all have fun philosophizing over this episode's fire round question. This question is: If every citizen in the US was to receive $1000 a month, unconditionally, and no changes to the current living conditions, how do you think society will react? How do you think you would personally react?
So, imagine we do get a universal income of $1000 every month, unconditionally. Some of us theorize that it will impact different groups of people in various ways. With no right or wrong answer, we are just discussing how it can impact us on a personal level, and how we think it may impact everyone else. For some of us, it comes down to financial literacy. Though we feel in today's age that $1000 a month, free, may not always amount to much to cover all the expenses. However, if we were to continue our lives and economy that we are currently in, that extra $1000 can go a long way in terms of our financial wealth. Taking financial literacy into account, some of us would welcome the extra $1000 with open arms and allow it to help us do so much more in advancing our financial lives. For others, they welcome that, but are also embracing the idea that this would help a lot of the lower income households. For instance, an extra $1000 can help many families cover the basic necessities (i.e. food), and allowing their earned income to do more for their families than take care of the basic essentials. Though others can appreciate it, on a macro scale, the question that begs is that how would this become sustainable from a structural perspective. We are debating this scenario as a pipe-dream, however, if it was to be enacted, what will the government do to keep it functional. Would this mean that other existing governmental assistance programs will be cut? Overall, it is already seen that the government already prints money to print it and stabilize the capitalist economy with debt. This can be just another one of those programs, but would that mean we would live in a more controlled state?
I for one, would embrace the idea of having a universal income. It would bring a significant amount of money to my life. Though the $1000 alone would not supplement my current debt to income ratio, but if all was steady, the extra $1000 would help me further in achieving financial wealth. Most of us can agree, and who knows how others will deal with it, but we hope that it makes us all wiser and wealthier for it.
Does every choice we make somehow impact the greater good? How do we even define who is part of the greater good, and why are these sacrifices for them come down to who is more powerful? We debate if we believe in the philosophy of sacrificing for the greater good. There are many levels to it, and it seems that no matter how we decide, it comes down to either our animalistic urge to survive and protect, our selflessness to allow others we love to live on, or just what we believe is the moral thing to do. No matter the choice, it is a choice that impacts all, and all either positively or negatively depending on which side of the coin you are on.
This episode features the usuals: Steven, Tyler, Zvon, and Andrew. All provide deep insight into the question: Do you believe in the philosophy of sacrificing for the greater good?
When it comes to deciding how we make our choices, some thoughts are about how we must do so to survive as a society. But at what expense? In a military mindset, some may argue going to war is what can allow peace. But there is no right or wrong answer, because all who is involved can either benefit or lose. Though this is a difficult topic to answer, discussing it was fun because we try to feel all sides of the ball and argue for and against this philosophy. We seem to all agree that the selfless type of sacrifice for the greater good is best--though, easier said than done, we would have less of an issue sacrificing ourselves for the greater good of our loved ones.
Choices can be about the NON-sacrifices, too. For instance, the choice NOT to sacrifice your values and your convictions may impact the greater good by inspiring others to to think positively about their own self-image. For choices can be negative, it is best to make a choice for yourself. Though we can discuss the extremes of how our choices can impact on the macro-scale, on a micro-scale and at an individual level, we can make the small choices to benefit ourselves in our day to day life.
The pandemic doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. However, the stigma of the year 2020 is coming to a close--or, is it all just really beginning? This is the month of December 2020. Generally, the holiday season brings a sense of peace and joy in the atmosphere. For some, this is the time of year they thrive the most, and for some others, this can be a dump because the cold is not their favorite season. Overall, the holiday season this year during the pandemic is not the same. With no vaccine still administered to all, and Covid-19 cases still rising, holidays are definitely not the same as yesteryear. We here at OSYL had our shares of stories about how we are living it through these times. Some found happiness, some found new passions and hobbies, and some rediscovered many things about themselves and others. These check in's were periodic over the time frame of the pandemic. Now it is the end of the year 2020, how are we still feeling about ourselves and our relationship with others?
This episode features the usuals, Steven, Tyler, and Zvon, and Andrew. We start with a prompt regarding our state of mind during these times, and we go off in our discussion.
During the conversation, we ended up having a thoughtful and reflective, yet, optimistic discussion together. The feeling at the end was almost therapeutic for some. We thought about how we felt we've done a lot of reconnecting and disconnecting. We talked about how the quarantine taught us self-care, and how being selfish by learning to do good by oneself was not a bad thing. Some have always been doing well taking care of themselves, that on the flip side, the lockdowns have been causing more stress in a way that they are unable to redirect the energy to new tasks. Overall, this end of the year recap and check in, provided a much needed talk.
Who knows where the next month and new year will take us. More of the same, or are will we finally start to see glimpses of our past glories? Find your energies, whether positive or negative, and figure out ways to redirect them in a manner that will release any of your stresses. There's not one right way, it's just about finding ourselves continuously while we adapt during these difficult times.
The month of November can be the start of feeling many emotions and experiencing various causes of stress. Maybe it’s the cold weather coming that is signaling the start of fall and winter time. Or it’s the bittersweet and cultural stress of the upcoming holidays. You know the type of stress that it carries: what gifts I should get, who to get it for, when to start shopping, who to visit, and even who to avoid, for instance. Though we all may experience some form of negative emotion during these times, this discussion on today’s episode is about how we work to manage it by acknowledging it and creating or establishing habits to defuse it. Of course this is all easier said and done, and like anything that comes to each individual’s mental health, there is no one solution that helps all. To find common ground and acknowledging it together, we work on bettering our state of mind and empathy for each other.
In this episode, it features the originals: Tyler and Andrew. Some of the guiding questions are below, but overall, it became a good open discussion on working on bettering our mental health.

With the holidays looking a little different this year, how do your holidays look like? Has anything changed how you're approaching Thanksgiving?
What are you looking forward to during this holiday season?
Are professional sport teams above the law? If we treat pro sports as a business entity at the end of the day, are they not above the same governmental guidelines that govern local businesses in the community during the covid-19 pandemic? Though we enjoy the entertainment--it brings back a sense of something common we can all cheer for and lay aside politics in all of its form for--sometimes we see the bigger picture of this large organization being in the middle of keeping a sense of normal (pre-COVID) and being the pioneers of progressing on to a better and safer future (during and post-COVID). Some may argue pro sport teams have no business in healthcare, yet, they have access to some of the world's best medical care and technology that can lead to the forefront of combating how we view COVID. Not to go down the rabbit hole and get into the politics of things, however, seeing pro football return brings back excitement, yet, anxiety.
In this episode, we welcome the return of our special guests, Jerrol, Jomar, and Ray, as they had participated in the previous 2 sports episode. We all got together to catch up on sports and our fantasy teams, and discuss the following 2 questions overall:
The return of professional football gives most Americans a chance to lay down their guard for awhile and join in on watching entertainment that'll distract them a little from the pains of the real world. Especially during this pandemic, it is a welcoming sight. In this episode, we discuss general logistics that the National Football League (NFL) must be battling. Unlike professional basketball and their success by playing in the "bubble," football as a sport presents different sets of issues the managers in that world must navigate. Prior to this episode and before the NFL season had began, we speculated (somewhat jokingly!), that the NFL would be shut down less than 5-weeks into its typical season. How wrong we were. As of this episode, the NFL season will be playing their 10th week of games. Though, its not to say that they have been immune to COVID. They had a few scares of teams locking down and almost at the brink of disqualifying themselves. We discussed how it seems as though the NFL was not managing their teams and the safety of their players health properly. It appears that instead of shutting down the season, even if for a few weeks to reduce the spread of COVID, they'd rather switch schedules around and hope for the best and let those same infected teams play still. Again, all speculative, but it does shine a red flag to the viewers.
Overall, we appreciate a little sense of normalcy with the return of sports. Though we appreciate that these players are back to work to entertain us, and hopefully they are doing all they can and their organization is doing all they can to model safety against COVID, we are caught at a crossroad. Who knows how this will impact the future play of the NFL in the future. For all we know, things aren't truly normal until the threat of the Coronavirus is taken care of. No end in sight, but all we can do is continue to do what we can to stay safe.

In this episode, it features the originals: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon, and Andrew. Some of the guiding questions are below, but overall, it became a good open discussion on working on bettering our mental health.
Let’s talk about our habits and hobbies as it relates to mental health. What things do you do that bring you joy, help you decompress, but also helps you work towards your goals?
How are you keeping up with those habits and hobbies during the pandemic?
Some of the ways that we utilize our habits to de-stress or defuse negative emotions or tensions, is to look at the small wins or achievements. For instance, some may look to setting a goal to read and/or write daily. The habit of reading can be a sense of achievement in several ways. After the stress from the everyday grind, you can temporarily put yourself in a meditative state of exercising your mind by reading a book on a new skill, or to immerse in your creativity and imagination by reading a fictional story. Either way, it appears reading can be a habit to give your mind, body, and spirit to refocus and recharge yourself by taking a moment to slow the pace down. On the other instance, writing daily can help some acknowledge the emotions they are feeling and to visualize it into words on paper. It can be seen as a mental exercise to control and express what we are feeling instead of bottling it in. Taking a negative emotion (or positive!) and turning it into a creative piece, or to explain it in words can be liberating mentally—but maybe even physically, because it will seem we are not holding on to its burden any longer.
Overall, we find the same notion that this 2020 year’s pandemic has brought us: burnout, anxiety, or some form of the mundane, for instance. Because of this, habits that we may have formed and excelled at (or allowed us to reach goals) become dreary and make us feel uninspired. The pandemic has allowed us to reflect and reconnect with our inner selves, or with others. With it comes newly formed hobbies and habits, and in turn, new found inspiration. For some, maybe they didn’t have good habits before, and with the pandemic and it’s way of getting us to reexamine ourselves, taught us new habits. Our only hope as we continue the uphill battle to an uncertain future, is that what we learn from this moment will lead us to greater heights.
Every one person is going through a journey and a battle that no other can speak for, or sympathize with. As every person is unique, it’s believed that so is the way we view mental health. I can say one thing about how I deal with it, but it shouldn’t be generalized to speak for how someone else is dealing with theirs. Especially for men, it’s a society that generalizes us into believing that it is a sign of weakness to express our feelings. Overall, it’s not hard to grasp that we all experience some level of negative emotions in all aspects of our lives—whether that be at work, school, or home, for instance. So when it comes to mental health, there is not one right solutions that solves all, but an opportunity for us to acknowledge the negativity that it can bring and how we can learn to accept and learn from it. Even more, acknowledge the positive and the benefits of taking care of ourselves and our mental health. So the question we bring to this recording’s discussion, what is mental health, and is the pandemic making it worse for us all?
In this episode, we take turns answering 3 questions in an open discussion style. No agenda, and just our chance to share how we feel. This episode features the usuals: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon, and Andrew. Each of them ran with the questions and opened it up for a free-for-all. These 3 questions are:
Good mental health is just as good as the oxygen we breathe. Take a deep breath, and exhale out slowly and release the heavy weight off of our shoulders. How do we deal with anxiety, depression, or even burnout, for instance, is a very difficult question to answer, generally. Like a spectrum, there are many and various forms of imbalances in our lives. It can be an extremely difficult conversation to have with others, but more importantly, with ourselves. There are times where we don’t notice we are out of sync with ourselves until someone else acknowledges it for us.
How we accept or ignore mental health, can be a factor of the environment we are in, the people we are around or lack thereof, or just the culture that ingrained in us what to believe in. May be true, may be not true. Overall, it should be known that it is ok to seek professional help for yourself or for others; it is ok to speak up without shame or listen without judgement. At the end of the day, we should continue to support and empathize with one another and most importantly, ourselves. We all have our own battles. Sometimes it takes a village to understand how to conquer them together.
The pandemic seems to take away our sense of community; at least in the physical sense. But we start to realize that with lockdowns and social restrictions, communities find creative ways to connect or re-connect. For instance, we are seeing more businesses working from home and meeting virtually, to online and live streaming churches, to live streaming concerts, and even to doing virtual runs—especially for avid runners who used to travel often to run races pre-covid. Overall, the pandemic causes us to travel and explore less, but it teaches us to find new ways to be compassionate.
In this episode, we take turns answering 3 questions about how we prepare ourselves before venturing out into the public during the pandemic. This episode features the usuals: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon. Each of them ran with the questions and provided a quick and thoughtful response to them. These 3 questions are:
How have you been planning things during the pandemic?
Do you think that just reacting/coming up with spur of the moment plans has been detrimental during the pandemic? Or do you think that’s all we can do?
Can we all learn to practice foresight to avoid the anxiousness and uncertainty of planning?
Even if there wasn’t a virus, as humans we adapt to try to expect the unexpected. Because of this, it causes us to learn to plan as best as we can without hindering our ability to move forward. This applies to all situations. We have to understand that nothing in life is perfect. Learn to trust in your convictions and let that be the guide to carry you forward. Even though we are far from where we want to be and with no end yet in sight during this pandemic, as all challenges that arises in our lives we learn to adapt and grow from it. Though our future all over the world is still uncertain, we wish that we all continue to show love and support to one another.
Our ability to plan comes with the ability to also be flexible and spontaneous. During the pandemic, it is hard to be spontaneous. No longer are the days when we can just hop in the car, drive to a city near one of our friends and stop by unexpected to ask if they want to hang out. Nowadays, especially about 7 months into the c-19 pandemic, being spontaneous feels disrespectful in the sense that unexpectedly dropping in on a friend without their permission can jeopardize the safety of their health. Even just going out nowadays seems to require more planning in thinking about your day. The routes we take or the expected exposure to the public, requires a little planning ahead of time before we jump in the car. Other than that, and adapting to this new norm, we found that 7 months in, is just giving us a reason to pursue goals or hobbies we had been holding back on pre-COVID.
Before we begin, please note that all sorts of SPOILERS are ahead!
In this episode, we join our special guest, Niko, and we then take turns answering questions about the Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix. This episode features the usuals, alongside our special guest: Steven and Tyler. Each of them ran with the questions and provided thoughtful (and sometimes off-tangent) responses to them. The questions are:
Comparing the two volumes in this Haunting series, we find the same shared feelings we had in the first volume (Hill House) as in this second volume (Bly Manor). We enjoyed the visuals, the plot, and the character development, for instance. Though Bly Manor shared a tale that seemed more intimate and enclosed compared to the expanded and vast universe in Hill House, the effect was the same—meaning our experience of the haunting tales and the metaphors presented was just as enjoyable to watch.
From a speculative perspective, we talk about what the youth may be going through while stuck at home or learning remotely during this pandemic. We are all now adults in our careers and with all some form of secondary level education. So, thinking back to when we were kids, it seems that we all agree that remote learning from home may be fairly detrimental to our growth as youth. In what remote learning curriculum can we teach students, especially younger ones, the non-verbal communication skills? In interacting in social settings, we learn to naturally develop social cues. Are the youth these days missing out on these skills?
In this episode, we join our special guest, Justin, and we then take turns answering 3 questions about how our youth may be dealing with this pandemic. This episode features the usual's, alongside our special guest: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon, and Andrew. Each of them ran with the questions and provided a quick and thoughtful response to them. These 3 questions are:
We hear from Justin, and how growing up, he credited a lot of his social interaction through grade school for his ability to open up and have conversations. Being shy in general, it appears putting ourselves through social settings allows us to learn what works and understand how we can be able to effectively communicate.
Throughout the episode, it is not all negative. We speculate that there has to be positives as well. History repeats itself; as all great things that come in every generation, it feels like it is revealed from the pain that each generation carries. Plus, in the age of technology, it appears the youth should fairly be comfortable. In the end, we wonder what the future holds for our youth. It is yet to be seen how far this pandemic will go on, and how it can teach us new ways to deal with human emotions.
In this episode, we catch up with Andrew, and we then take turn to answer 9 random questions in a fire round that gives us all about a minute only to answer. This episode features the usuals: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon, and the return of teammate Andrew. Each of them ran with the questions and provided a quick and thoughtful response to them. These 9 questions are:
Throughout the episode, it was refreshing for the band of brothers to be back together laughing and joking, and sharing different perspectives on each question.
In this episode, we answer 3 questions about our sense of community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This episode features the usual crew of Steven, Tyler, and Zvon. Additionally, we welcome our special guest Niko to the table. Each of them took turns to provide quick and thoughtful responses to each question. These 3 questions are:
Throughout the episode we discussed following the safety protocols that keeps our interactions with our community safe and doable, how working relationships have changed as most of us move to remote working, how online communities and virtual interactions are becoming more of the norm, how students are being impacted by virtual learning, and to feelings of toxicity and exhaustion from the sense of being at home. In answering the 3 questions we unearth a range of emotions and thoughts on the topic of community during the pandemic. In the end, we challenge ourselves and our listeners to not take it for granted.
In this episode, we recap the first 6 months of the year 2020, specifically citing the details of when Covid-19 struck the world. From there, we answer 2 questions that discusses our current state of emotions and how it impacts how we feel towards what we hope may happen in the next 6 months. This episode features the usuals: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon. Each of them ran with the questions and provided a quick and thoughtful response to them. Tyler provided the quick recap and then they all answered these 2 questions:
In the end, we had an interesting and much needed conversation. Even if it was just the platform for us to vent out our emotions that we have been bottling up to ourselves the past 6 months, it allowed us to speak freely and let go. Though times feel like we are more bogged down than liberated, we are in it to survive, and we hope to continue to stay strong and support one another.
In this episode, we answer 12 random questions (that includes that college related question above) in a fire round that gives us all about a minute only to answer. This episode features the usuals: Steven, Tyler, and Zvon. Each of them ran with the questions and provided a quick and thoughtful response to them. These 12 questions are:
Throughout the episode, we find that some questions are fun and quick to answer, while others take more time to think through before speaking. The latter episodes struck a chord in that we can expand on those questions to a larger episode where we feature special guests to join us in the discussion. Overall, this was a fun episode that continues to share more of our thoughts, and provide insight into who we are.
In this episode, we discuss the impacts of gaming, now 6 months into the pandemic. At the time of this discussion, Animal Crossing's popularity has gone down, but we are excited about what is to come! This is a great follow up discussion to an earlier episode in the series! Guest appearance by Ray Luu and Niko Ahkiong!
To lead our discussion, we answer the 3 following questions:
In today's episode, we're going to be reading an article written by Tyler. It's called "Heroes." This is an article that was inspired by the sudden, tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, and what he really meant to to the community, to the world, and how many people looked up to him. After the article reading, we'll have a small discussion.
In this episode we discuss the impacts of sports reopening during Covid-19. At the time of this discussion, we have basketball (NBA), baseball (MLB), and soccer (MLS, Serie A, Bundesliga, etc.) among other professional sports back in action and entertaining us. And football (NFL) opening up again, just right around the corner. This was a great follow up discussion from another one of our episodes where we had discussed 3 months in to our quarantine, the possible impact and implications that sports hold on us, and the power it may bring when it does come back. Now 6 months in since the coronavirus had locked us down, sports is back and we are discussing how we feel. To lead our discussion, we answer the 3 following questions:
At times we may feel lonely when pursuing our own goals. Believing in yourself can make you feel isolated from others, but only we know how hard the journey is, and how to achieve success for ourselves is worth discovering.
In today's episode, we are reading an article of a personal narrative that we wrote, or we have permission to share. Once we listen to the reading, we'll have a follow up discussion on the topic at hand.

In this episode we discuss the basics of financial literacy and the impact it has in our lives and our growth. For most of us, financial literacy is something you learn to help improve all aspects of your life, or it is something that you don’t learn and let it be a burden at times. Unfortunately in the world we live in, money doesn’t always equate to happiness, but it does play a very vital role in our lives. With our special guests joining us to discuss this important topic, we answer 3 questions on the basics of financial literacy. They are:
What are your thoughts on learning financial literacy?
How do you think this would benefit us if we were taught this in grade school or at an early age?
What do you recommend is one thing we do to teach ourselves?
Through out the episode, we discuss how teaching even the basics of financial literacy can start a tidal wave of benefits that can increase value to our lives. The way we look to increase our health, or our mental, via exercising or meditating, for example, we can decrease a major stress in our life but taking control of our financial situations. For most of us on this episode, we learned the benefits later on in life when we began to realize how much of our lives revolve around finances, and as equally important, how little we know about it. This is more than just learning that 4 quarters makes a dollar. Financial literacy is the power of understanding how money revolves around our lives and learning how to control it where we can make it benefit us. In the end, just like other aspects of our lives, when we break down barriers that makes conversation of finances taboo, we begin to see how we all can support one another in growing wealthy.
Do you ever find yourself stressing and making excuses? Yeah? Well, most of us do.
