Nathan Tomasello wrapped up his storied career at Ohio State a four-time All-American, a four-time Big Ten Champion, a four-time Academic All-American and the 2015 NCAA National Champion at 125 pounds. He became just the 15th wrestler in Big Ten history to cap their career with four individual conference crowns. The national stage became common ground for this Parma, Ohio, native as he also placed third at the NCAA tournament in 2016 (125 lbs.), 2017 (133 lbs.) and 2018 (125 lbs.). To close out his collegiate accolades, Tomasello was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2015 and 2016), a three-time NWCA All-Academic honoree (2015, 2016, and 2018), and a five-time OSU Scholar-Athlete (2014-18). In his redshirt senior season with the Buckeyes, Tomasello placed third at the NCAA Championships, downing four nationally-ranked opponents along the way. What was even more impressive was that he competed the entire season with a torn ACL suffered while wrestling in the U23 World Champion Team Trials the summer before. During his last four years at OSU, Tomasello compiled a 100-8 overall record with 31 major decisions, 19 technical falls, and 11 falls. In his redshirt season (2013-14), he registered four open tournament championships at 125 pounds and posted a 18-0 record, which included nine major decisions, two technical falls, and three falls. Prior to OSU, Tomasello was a two-time high school First Team All-American. He amassed a 178-5 high school record – 37-5 as a freshman, 42-0 as a sophomore, 47-0 as a junior and 52-0 as a senior. He graduated as Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy’s school record holder for most career victories and most victories in a season. Tomasello graduated from Ohio State in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology. He also received a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from the school in 2018 as well. Daryl Thomas, a native of Edwardsville, was named the Associate Head Coach for SIUE wrestling in November 2021.

Thomas returns to Edwardsville after spending last season as an assistant coach at Campbell, where he helped lead the Camels to one of the best seasons in program history. Seven Campbell wrestlers earned spots at the 2021 NCAA Championships in St. Louis.

The Camels also claimed their third straight Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships. The team was ranked as high as 19th nationally by InterMat.

Thomas holds significant experience in collegiate wrestling having two seasons as an assistant at Old Dominion. Prior to ODU, Thomas spent one year as the head coach at Lincoln College, leading the Lynx to a fourth-place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament. He was named NJCAA Midwest District Coach of the Year

He also was an assistant coach at Northern Illinois during the 2015 and 2016 season. Five Huskies earned NCAA National Tournament qualifying spots during his tenure.

Thomas was part of the Edwardsville High School coaching staff after completing his bachelor’s degree in communications at Illinois in 2013. He helped his alma mater advance four wrestlers to the Illinois state tournament while the Tigers finished the 2014 regular season with a school-record 28-0 dual mark and a Southwestern Conference title.

At Illinois, Thomas was a two-time place winner at the Big Ten Championships in 2012 and 2013, finishing sixth each time. He completed his collegiate career with a 53-47 record with six pins. He advanced to the NCAA Championships as a senior and was ranked as high as seventh by WIN Magazine as a senior. He finished third at the 2012 ASICS USA Wrestling University Nationals to earn Freestyle All-American honors.

A 2008 graduate of Edwardsville High School, Thomas was a three-time state qualifier with a career record of 111-23. He set records for single-season takedowns (183) and career takedowns (401).
Thomas earned his bachelor's degree from Illinois in communications in the spring of 2013. In 2022, he received his master's degree in management and leadership from Western Governors University.

A self described workout addict, he became certified and started training clients part time in 2000 at T3 Personal Training Studio, eventually opening the original Old School Gym with Cory Gregory in 2003. The Old School Gym moved to it’s current location in 2008 and has been featured in Sports Illustrated, Muscular Development Magazine, Bodybuilding.com, and is consistently ranked in the Top 10 most hardcore gyms in the United States.

In addition to successful stints as a competitive powerlifter, bodybuilder and amateur boxer, Dustin wrestled in high school and was always drawn to training athletes in the worlds oldest and toughest sport.

In 2012, Coach Myers accepted the position of Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Ohio Regional Training Center for Olympic wrestling at The Ohio State University. During his tenure, Coach Myers helped the Ohio State Wrestling team win its first NCAA Championship in school history, a pair of runner up NCAA finishes and 3 team Big10 titles.

In addition to the Buckeyes, some of the athletes he has worked with include 2x NCAA Champ Tommy Rowlands, 3x World Team member Reece Humphrey, Olympic Champion Kyle Snyder, and top MMA prospect Lance Palmer. Founded by four former high school and collage level wrestlers, Wynwood Wrestling was structured around the belief in the value of our community, and understanding it starts with the youth. Samuel Mercado, Luis Mercado, Carlos Arroliga and Arnol Arroliga; all natives of Miami, were raised within the inner city. They understood the struggle and challenges faced by the youth because they lived it themselves. This inspired them to create a program that would serve as a safe haven for these kids, motivating and teaching them there is more to life then just “the streets” or becoming a product of their environment.

The wrestling journey has afforded them the ability to challenge themselves to become better student athletes and earn college scholarships. More importantly, they were challenged and expose to different environments, other than the misleading factors that are imposed designs of many disenfranchised communities. They are a distinguished team of men with invaluable experience to share, and a vision to instill ‘righteous confidence’ in our youth.

Started wrestling at the age of 6 following my brother and fell in love with the sport. I was the only female on the team all the way through highschool. Through highschool i earned my varsity spot for all four years wrestling at 106 & 113. It wasnt till highschool that i reconized girls wrestling. Im a 3 time NJ state champ in females wrestling, a four time all american and took second at the Pan Am’s at the age of 16. I was one of the youngest members of team USA. I started a girls team in nj because i wanted to travel with other girls to national tournaments. They would stay at my house for weeks at a time, i asked my personal trainer to train us, reached out to the parents for travel arrangements and we went all over the country. My senior year recieved a full scholarship to Missouri Valley college for wrestling and academics. Now im back in New Jersey coaching at Pope John middle school and Buxtons athletic training center.

From Tony DiSario:

Please. Can you help my son, Jackson, and his Stanford Wrestling teammates and write an email? When ODU dropped their wrestling program I reached out and corresponded with their AD for several emails. I also emailed their president and their local news. I learned a great deal. I learned that ego-driven people can easily, unjustifiably and unjustly destroy the hopes and dreams of lifetime-athletes for no apparent reason. In Stanford’s case, a knee-jerk reaction and very little thought combined with an AD with a history of eliminating programs without justification to create the easily avoidable destruction of 270+ real lives. For example, in under two days funding was guaranteed to fully endow the men’s wrestling program. The athletic administration responded by explaining that no amount of fundraising would change their decision to eliminate all 11 of the athletic programs being discontinued - for financial reasons. As logic is clearly absent, the decision must be the result of some personal financial gain, a personal gain to the AD’s ego, or just plain ignorance. Whatever the case, especially as the wrestling program can fund itself, please don’t allow one man’s tyrannical ego to crush the lifetime goals of our children - our wrestlers. Please click the link for the response guide and send emails to the addresses listed. Thank you so much for your help!

A native of Rockford, Mich., Bennett is the only four-time All-American in CMU history and is one of two Chippewas to have earned four MAC titles.

Bennett placed fourth at 184 pounds in the NCAA Championships in 2013, his senior year. In 2010, he was sixth at 174, becoming the fourth freshman in program history to earn All-America honors. He placed eighth at 174 in 2011 and was sixth at 184 in 2012.

Bennett twice earned the Chick Sherwood Award as CMU’s most valuable wrestler, was named the MAC Wrestler of the Year in 2012, and in 2010 earned the MAC Freshman of the Year Award.

In 2013, Bennett joined Wynn Michalak as the only four-time MAC champions in CMU history. Just six wrestlers in the 60-plus-year history of the MAC have accomplished that feat.

Bennett ranks sixth in CMU history with 121 career victories (against 24 losses) and his career win percentage, .834, is fourth all-time. In 2012-13, he finished 31-2 for a .939 win percentage, the second best in program history. He also won a school-record 30 consecutive matches during that season.

His story is amazing!! From 10% Chance to live to 3rd at Nationals.

*Also, a moment of silence for CSU-Pueblo Wrestling Asst. Coach Mike Roumph who we tragically lost today 😢 Rest In Power Coach*

Kolton Kersten is a survivor of bacterial meningitis who had less than a 10% chance to live. He lived through what is known as a medical miracle for one last run at a national title for his senior wrestling season. For what might be one of the best comeback stories never known, Kersten rebuilt himself from nothing to become a 2x All-American placing 3rd in the Nation two years later. The first time Kersten seen himself in the mirror while sick in the hospital, he told doctors to let him die. Shortly after, Kersten’s head coach Beau Vest walked in the room and told him something that would change his life forever, “I don’t care what these doctors are telling you about you never being able to function normally let alone ever wrestle again because if they truly knew you, they would know that you haven’t given up on anything in your entire life and you’re not going to give up today.

Below are the questions I asked the Champ!

What is it like being a teammate to your only high school loss and how has that loss helped or affected your wrestling

I read that you will not take an Olympic red shirt year, so with them pushed back a year does that change any of your preparation?

What is it like wrestling at Iowa and for the Brands Brothers?

What has Jody Strittmatter at Young Guns meant to you and your career so far?

What does it mean to do these virtual training sessions with all these young men and women around the country?

What does it mean to you to receive the Sullivan and The Hodge awards?

What will it mean to you to win a Gold Medal for the USA?

Is it true the Team messes with you about your girlfriend being taller than you?

What was the feeling of defeating Suriano and winning your first of two titles?

What has wrestling meant in your life and what would you tell young kids out there that want to be the next Spencer Lee?

How far has Pat Lugo come? In your opinion do you think Pat would’ve won the NCAA title this year? Tell us you favorite Pat Lugo story?

What does the addition of Bretli Reyna mean to the team?
