In this podcast we discuss the importance of being careful not only to choose a good and accurate Bible translation but also to be aware that sometimes the translators include translation of words that can, at the very least, include word choices that can be seen as antisemitic (and may not be aware they are doing so). We use 1Thessalonians 2:14-20 to illustrate several points on this subject.

We are seeing, in some ministries, an abundance of false prophecies as well as unbiblical manifestations based on new age and demonic practices. The list could go on and on. The speaker asks why is this happening? While he does not answer the question definitively, he believes one of the reasons is a lack of the Fear of God. He gives scriptures (the main topic of this sermon) about what the Bible says about the Fear of God. This sermon was given during our Saturday Shabbat service on July 8, 2023 by elder Allan L Nemer.

For the appeal we make does not flow from error or from impure motives, neither do we try to trick people. Instead, since God has tested us and found us fit to be entrusted with Good News, this is how we speak: not to win favor with people but with God, who tests our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2: 3-4 (CJB)

26 Anyone who thinks he is religiously observant but does not control his tongue is deceiving himself, and his observance counts for nothing. 27 The religious observance that God the Father considers pure and faultless is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being contaminated by the world. James/Ya'acov 1: 26-27 Complete Jewish Bible

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 - We should never forget this fact from the Scriptures: Paul/Shaul, realized that he (Shaul) was where he was because of the power and grace of God. We continue in chapter 24 of the Book of Acts. Today dealing with verses 14-16. Here we see Shaul (Paul) continuing his testimony before Roman governor Felix. Paul is saying that despite the fact that the leadership considers him and other followers of Yeshua as a sect (a group of people with particular beliefs, different from them), in fact Paul's beliefs are the same as their beliefs. In this section we deal with the resurrection of the dead, showing that Paul's beliefs are consistent and scriptural. This sermon was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat Service on January 1, 2022.
The Torah Reading (Sh'mot) is from Exodus 1:1 to 6:1. We are introduced to Moses (Moshe), his birth, his life and forced departure from Egypt, his new life in Midian and his calling to go back to Egypt. A person might think that Moses eagerly embraced his calling. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. When Moses was confronted by a Holy God, unlike his past in Egypt, now he is unsure of himself and recognizes his sinful life. Even asking God to choose someone else. When you examine ALL of scripture you will see that is a common occurrence. Note: early on a reference is made, recommending people to view a teaching series by R.C. Sproul. The teaching is on the Holiness of God, (highly recommended). Link: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL30acyfm60fVpGc7Eo--3S6w1kdhXY9Cb

Continuing through the Book of Acts, Chapter 23, part 2, we dig into more details. This sermon was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat Service on December 18, 2021.
We start the next chapter of the Book of Acts, chapter 23. Here we find Shaul (Paul) finishing up his testimony before the Sanhedrin and creating controversy in the process. We also find Shaul receiving marching orders for his future from Yeshua himself in a nighttime visitation. Paul also is transported to Caesarea to save his life and also testify before the Roman regional governor, Felix. This message was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat Service on December 11, 2021.
A short synopsis of Hanukkah. It's history, what it meant to the Jewish people then and how we can apply it's meaning in our lives at this time. (Since we are the temple of the Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) that means we must cleanse and rededicate our temples as well).
This sermon was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat Service on December 4, 2021.
Continuing through the Book of Acts, we finish studying Chapter 22. This sermon was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis on Saturday, November 20, 2021 during our Shabbat Service.
Continuing through the Book of Acts, Chapter 22, Part 5. We continue our examination of Saul's (Paul's) testimony before the people of Jerusalem right after he was arrested. This sermon was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat Service on November 13, 2021.
Continuing through the Book of Acts Chapter 22 Part 4. This message was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat service on November 6, 2021.
In the Book of the prophet Malachi (1:6 to 2:9) we read where the Lord tells the priests of the temple and the people of Israel in general that their sacrifices were unacceptable and disrespectful. Think what a shock that must have been to them. They thought that what they were doing was acceptable to the Lord. Yet the Lord told them their offerings were inferior and showed a lack of respect for Him.
That brings up an important question for our days. Do we think our offerings (worship) are acceptable to God yet in God's eyes are in fact not acceptable at all? Thank the Lord for His mercy and grace, yet we still need to realize that He and His Word (Bible) is the only standard to judge on this subject. Something to think about.
This HafTorah reading and commentary was given by Elder Allan Nemer during our Saturday Shabbat Service on November 6, 2021.
Continuing through the Book of Acts - chapter 22, Part 3. This sermon was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis on October 23, 2021.
Continuing through the Book of Acts, Chapter 22 Part 2. Paul (Saul) is standing before the Sanhedrin. On trial for his life. Before we discuss that, Rabbi Frank first reads quickly through Acts 6:1-8:1, the trial and stoning of Stephen as background. At that time Paul (Saul) is not a follower of Yeshua but a persecutor and executioner of Yeshua's followers. Now a few decades later the tables are turned and Paul, a long-time servant of Yeshua and leader in the world-wide congregation of Yeshua's followers, is the one on trial. This sermon was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service on October 16, 2021.
Part 3 in the series! God's wisdom is peaceable, gentle, reasonable. What does that mean according to the Word of God? How should we treat other believers and people in general and still stand up for the truth of God and His Word. Just as important, how should we display the wisdom of God when it comes to interacting with people online and in social media.

Part 2 of a series on Wisdom From Above, from God. Based on James (Jacob) chapter 3, verses 13-17. This sermon talks about the fact that it is pure. We discuss what pure means according to the Bible and what it means for us. It means that as we put the L-rd and His Word first then by His Ruach (Spirit) He will change us and purify us. It also means that the L-rd will use tough and hard times to do His purifying in our lives. This message was given by Elder Allan Nemer during our Saturday Shabbat service on September 4, 2021.

Torah reading and commentary on Deuteronomy 8. The Word of the Lord is clear, as followers and disciples of Yeshua, He will lead us through times of testing to not only refine us but to humble us so that we may know what is inside of us. Numbers 20: In one year (most likely) Moses went through a lot. His sister and brother died, the children of Israel started complaining again as well as through Moses disobedience he was told by the Lord that he would not enter the promised land and on and on it went. All within one year probably. In this time of high stress we need to be very careful that we don't find ourselves complaining and reap the same results, discipline and judgement. Torah Reading (Parashah - portion) for this weekend is Sh'mini. This reading today deals with the strange and profane offerings of Nadab and Abihu (Leviticus 10:1-11). We also talk about the death of Uzzah as David and Israel tried to bring back the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:1-11). We finish off with a reading from 2 Corinthians 6:14-18. This reading deals with the constant tendency of mankind (individuals and congregations alike) to combine Biblical and Pagan (demonic) practices and call it good. Just as bad is the tendency to relax standards and think it is OK with God. Yet, in fact, it is actually profane and strange in the eyes of the Lord. An abomination. This Torah reading and commentary was done by Elder Allan Nemer during our Saturday Shabbat Service on April 10, 2021.
Continuing with the theme of the last sermon: Chapter 20 opens up with the phrase: "After the uproar had ceased . . . " referring to the just completed riot that happened during Shaul's (Paul's) ministry in Ephesus. This message builds on that fact with a review of Shaul's ministry in the past. This message was given by Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis during our Saturday Shabbat Service on March 20, 2021.

Some people are surprised to find out that Yeshua celebrated Hanukkah (Feast of Dedication). Before moving on to the next chapter in the future we will be spending one last session digging deeper into the events of Chapter 10. We will be examining, among other things, the depth of the change Kefa (Peter) was called to. So you understand the vision of Peter, a reading of Leviticus 11 is included (the Kosher food laws) so you can see why Kefa (Peter) was initially horrified by the request. Moses and Joshua warned the children of Israel about not imitating the countries they were about to conquer. Instead they were supposed to obey God's Word as well as reject the paganism and false unbiblical religions and beliefs that those countries were steeped in. Likewise, the Body Of Messiah is called by the Lord and His word to be in the world but not of it. With the world rapidly deteriorating into paganism, now more than ever we need to remember Joshua's call: "Choose This Day Whom You Will Serve". Please note the choices referred to is the choice of (with the Lord's help) following the Bible so we can make the correct moral decisions in our everyday lives that honor the Lord. This sermon was given by Elder Allan L Nemer during our Saturday Shabbat Service on December 14, 2019. Another Elder, Tim Hieb makes some closing comments after the sermon.

Short Torah Commentary from Genesis 29:11. Jacob meets Rachel for the first time, he raises his voice and wept aloud. WHY? The possible answer is based on Jacob's personality. We look into the lives and struggles of the Jewish disciples of Yeshua (Jesus) as they deal with the FACT of a new move of God: Those people of the nations outside of Israel who accept Yeshua as the Messiah should no longer be considered unclean. In fact they are now part of the Body of Messiah.
Sound note: Though we turned the sound up during recording and editing, please note Rabbi Frank had a sinus cold as he was giving this sermon so his voice is somewhat subdued. Continuing through the Book of Acts, Messianic Rabbi Frank Davis talks about the beginning of the outreach to the nations. Although taken for granted now, it would likely have been seriously resisted by most Jewish followers of Yeshua at that time. Hence the vision of God to Peter. Finishing up on chapter 9 we examine the ministry of Kefa (Peter). Here we see him, through the power of the Lord, healing Aeneas and raising Tavita (Tabitha, Dorcas) from the dead. This teaching is as much an examination of Kefa's character as it is about his ministry opportunities.
We end the sermon with an in depth look at Acts 9:43. Here Kefa stays for some time with a tanner named Shimon. Most people would ignore that statement but Rabbi Frank gives an in-depth look at what a tanner is in Yeshua's time and how Israeli society and religious beliefs of that time viewed a tanner (unclean). The result of the examination again highlights the depth of how much the Lord transformed Kefa's (Peter's) life and how willing he was to associate with undesirable people.

The Fear of God/Fear of the Lord is one of the more important topics in scripture. Depending on who is doing the counting, there are between 150 and 400 references to the topic in one form or another in scripture. Yet this topic is becoming increasingly ignored in many congregations. This teaching by Elder Allan Nemer moves through several of the scriptures to help you start to learn what it means and how it will affect everything we do in life.
Some of the ideas and concepts in this study came from a book by Jerry Bridges (now with the Lord) from the Navigators, a discipleship ministry. It is a book this speaker recommends. Book Link: The Joy of Fearing God by Jerry Bridges

Continuing through the Book of Acts - chapter 9. We continue discussing not only Paul's seeing the Lord in a vision resulting in his salvation and transformation. but the other times Paul testified about the vision. We also discuss Yeshua's Bat Kol (pronounced Baht Kohl - the audible voice of the Lord) times when the audible voice of the Lord was heard. This is a rare circumstance that can only be done at the Lord's will and timing, not by man, it will glorify the Lord not man, and will always line up with scripture. Even today, a few unsaved Jews and Arabs have received a Bat Kol, resulting in their immediate salvation and transformation.

Continuing the message given on August 18: "What is Repentance", elder Allan Nemer extends the message into the rest of our lives. Repentance is a lifelong process which means, according to scripture: Count the cost, pick up your execution stake (cross), and run the race to finish. Thereby receiving your reward when you stand in His presence in Heaven. In light of important events of the last several weeks in the body of Messiah, these concepts become even more important. This sermon was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service on September 14, 2019.

Continuing through the Book of Acts, Chapter 9. This message has a bit of review from the last message. What is new is Shaul's (Paul) stunning transformation. It amazes everyone, including the disciples and emissaries (apostles). Add on to that Paul's relentless witnessing and it results in multiple plots to kill Shaul in both Damascus and Jerusalem. Note: Rabbi Frank Davis is reading from the Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern. This sermon was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service on September 7, 2019.

Like them, we as disciples of Yeshua (Jesus) are exiles in this world but have the promise of coming home. This very short message was given by a member of our congregation, John Anderson, who is currently an online seminary student in Messianic Jewish Studies. It was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service on August 31, 2019

Continuing through the Book of Acts, Chapter 9. Starting with the end of Chapter 8, we are introduced to a new person, Sha'ul (Paul, His Roman Name). Sha'ul was a super-zealot, very knowledgeable on Scripture. He, along with others in leadership, initiated a large-scale persecution of the followers of Yeshua. Until Sha'ul had an encounter with Yeshua on the road to Damascus. Then his life was radically changed. This message was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service on August 24, 2019.
What is repentance? What does it mean for our lives and our eternal souls/destiny? The speaker, Elder Allan Nemer, was convicted by the Lord a few years ago about having wrong and unscriptural beliefs and worldviews. He has spent the last few years making major changes to his beliefs and views to make sure they conform to scripture. This sermon is therefore deeply personal to him having lived through a long period of repentance and prays that it is also instructional for others in the body of Messiah. This message was given during our Saturday Shabbat Service on August 17, 2019.
