Eric Meyer is an amazing guy! He has spent much of his adulthood climbing the company ladder. Bad news can be worth millions of dollars for those that control the twenty four hour news cycle. This is only one aspect of life that can rob us of the peace that Jesus Christ promised us. I am convinced that the Holy Spirit is a master of opportunity. I recently had a chance meeting at our guest’s recent speaking engagement. For months I was trying to contact him to be a guest. His extremely busy schedule and his priestly duties made it nearly impossible to schedule a time that we could sit down and have a casual conversation. However when the time was right the Holy Spirit brought us together and a block of time was opened.

The Catholic faith is enormously rich in wisdom. For centuries sage men and woman have been sharing this wisdom, but as our culture moves away from the common language of the church these treasures of the faith risk getting lost. I met my guest Pat King at a Knights of Columbus conference on evangelization in New Haven. I was fortunate to be assigned to the same table as Pat and had a chance to really get to know him. Pat is a guy that really understands what it means to be Along “The Way”, and he is joining me in this episode to be a witness to the value of suffering in hardships. Fr. Francis Adagyine is a Catholic Priest from Ghana Africa. He grew up as a Shepard, herding cattle to support his family. He also grew up in the Traditional African religion but a chance meeting with a group of Catholics set Father on a different course. This is a great story of how a Shepard of cattle becomes a Shepard of people. And he does so, guided by the Holy Spirit. Without the walls of a church this humble man of God leads his flock to experience the Good, The Beautiful and The True in the simplest of ways.

My guest in this episode was a table mate at a recent conference that I attended. He is a self-proclaimed regular guy is how he sees himself but to those that meet him he far surpasses such a simple description. Deacon Ben LoCasto has been a friend for a while. I have always know him to be a man with great focus especially when it come to the matters of spirituality. Many times he has been asked to join the Knights of Columbus or some other worthy organization, Deacon Ben certainly lends his support but always puts being a Deacon first. So when I heard that he not only joined a worldwide organization but represented its leadership in the New York region I had to find out more. So I made phone call to my dear friend and He told me that he was now the Commander of the New York Commandery Of the Templar Knights. Honestly, I didn’t know what to think. I thought that the Templer Knights was some historical group that fought in the crusades and was disbanded by the church and would later be part of freemason folk lore. To my surprise the Templar Knights still around and still defend the Catholic way of life. Joining me along the way is Deacon Ben LoCasto to discuss the Knights role in a modern world.

It’s no secret that I am proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus and when my good friend David Imhof was asked to by our State Deputy to serve a newly created position within the State Council, I was so happy for him. Dave Imhof is one of the hardest working guys I know. Using the Knights of Columbus principals of “Charity, Unity and Fraternity along with an strong devotion to Fr. McGivney to evangelize the Gospel, Dave Imhof was the perfect choice to lead this new initiative by the supreme council.
Joining me along the way to discuss this game changing project is the man responsible for implementing this pilot program into twenty one different areas of the United States and Canada, The Vice President of Faith and Evangelization for the Knights of Columbus, Damian O’Connor.
Just because your name is McGivney, it’s not a given that putting faith first will come easy. For my guest Joe McGivney a distant relative of Blessed Michael McGivney holding on to the faith was not the It seems like the foundation that was given to him as a child growing up in South Chicago remained but on that foundation was a structure of anxiety and selfishness that led to a period of addiction that would eventually be almost life altering if it were not for an aunt, a wife and the intercession of Blessed McGivney himself. On May 28th2022, Men of the Knights of Columbus from Connecticut put on an “In to the Breach” day of reflection for the men of Whitechurch in County Cork Ireland. The day was an early one for the men from Connecticut, but it was rewarding, being able to serve our brothers in Christ across the Atlantic Ocean. In this episode Fr. Gabriel Burke (one of the day of reflection organizers) joins me to discuss the importance of men’s group today.

I never really thought that I would do a show on prolife issues. Because there are people out there that are more educated on the subject than I am I felt it would be better to leave it to them. Since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade many pro-life organization and missions have been celebrating this victory for life. I too am glad the side of life has taken the battlefield of ideas. However, I don’t feel that the Supreme Court’s decision has changed anyone’s mind if abortion is right or wrong. Honestly, the battle is not over! It is time to pray for a change of heart. It is time to stop making abortion a political issue and pray that it be seen as a human rights issue. When we change the hearts of people we will change the minds of politicians. Let us remain united in prayer for a change of heart.
The world will tell you that they will believe in those things that they can see and measure. They question the existence of God even when the odds point to his existence as the only logical answer. Suffering may be the hardest mystery to understand in all of Christianity. The secular world loves to ask believers the question, If there is a loving God how can he allow so much pain and suffering in the world? I must admit, I have asked myself that question at times as well. I have even stood on the side of a mountain yelling at God asking him how much more do You think I can take? We all suffer sadness, no one is immune to it. This episode is important to listen to and equally important to share. I hope you will pass this episode on to someone that may need to hear it. Vocations, vocations, vocations! So often we get prayer request for vocations, and justifiably so, we need to always pray for an increase in the priesthood. But one of the most misunderstood roles of those that receive Holy Orders is that of the Deacon. These ordained minister fulfill an important role within the diocese. In this episode Down The Hall Dave and Producer David Imhof discuss what they learned during season two. Prayer has many different forms and we discuss what perspectives our different guest had from praying during suffering to prayers for miracles.
Many of the greatest personal stories of people returning back to the church contain a story of confession. Some go many years without having the weight of sin lifted off of them and the effect of sin goes beyond just an interior deterioration but making us feel removed from family and community. Though it is identified by the church as the sacrament of reconciliation it is a restoration to the state of grace and proof of a God that loves so much that he wants us to hear his words loud and clear “You are forgiven… go in peace”
Is it possible to be part of a sub-culture that is sometimes miss understood and be Catholic? Absolutely! It is called community. It is how we meet people where they are at.
