Pandemic Impacts to Higher Education Summary: Like other sectors of the country, the pandemic has had a significant impact upon higher education. In the November edition of Listen Lakeland, Dr. Kyle Fedler interviews two representatives of local institutions of higher education about the effects of the pandemic on their colleges. Dr. Orathai Northern, from Polk State College and Dr. Brad Hollingshead, Florida Southern College, discuss how their respective colleges are handling the changes wrought by the pandemic and how they have adjusted their approaches in light of the need to maintain social distancing. The guests also shared how the last eight months have impacted enrollment, finances, how they are handling academic programs that require face-to-face interaction, whether on campus (labs, arts, etc.) or off-campus, such as internships, clinical nursing rotations, and other areas. Finally, the guests shared their thoughts on the possible lasting impact of the pandemic on their own institutions and on higher education in general. Legacies of Lakeland was created by the Lakeland Public Library's Special Collections Librarian, LuAnne Mims, who hoped that listeners would experience Lakeland's history through the compelling narrative of those who lived it.

Mayor Bill Mutz's Economic Inclusion Summit was held on Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at Southeastern University. This was the first of a series of meetings that are part of the Mayor's "One Lakeland" initaitive. One Lakeland aims to generate continued prosperity through inclusion.
Presenters included the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, Lakeland Economic Development Council, Lakeland CRA - Community Redevelopment Agency and Former Mayor Gow Fields.

Welcome to the City of Lakeland’s very first podcast: VIBEcast with host Elizabeth Hollida. VIBEcast is designed to give listeners a more in-depth look at the artists of Lakeland! In January of 2018, Liz met up with filmmaker Kevin O’Brien at Hillcrest Coffee in Dixieland (Lakeland). They played Carcaissonnes, ate delicious snacks, drank coffee, and of course, chatted about his business, JourneyBox Media, and the making of his first feature-length film, At the End of the Day. His film premieres on Friday, May 18th in Lakeland at the Polk Theatre.
