Splitting time between Colorado and California, Nancy is a certified Master Integrative Life Coach with a myriad of coaching certifications specializing in shadow work, boundaries and reinvention. She is the author of the international best-selling book, Bigger Better Braver: Conquer your fears, Embrace your courage, Transform your life. She offers a few digital courses and an online- zoom coaching course featuring her book. Prior to her work as a coach, she operated as owner and founder a personal training gym for sixteen years, so she knows what it takes to help people achieve big goals. She lives by example. In 2017, she traveled alone in Thailand and Vietnam and undertook her biggest challenge, climbing Kilimanjaro at the age of 61. Coaching others to step out of fear and into bigger versions of themselves is my passion. She is the mother of two grown sons and an active grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren. She is an avid hiker, biker, skier, yogi and pickleball player. She is passionate about my five-year-old Australian Labradoodle, Bliss.

Crush your limiting beliefs and live you most authentic life. Set healthy boundaries and set yourself free. Shadow work-what is it and why does it matter? There is always a discrepancy between what we say we want and what we are experiencing. The answer lies in the disempowering beliefs and unconscious commitments hidden deep within our subconscious. Our subconscious beliefs continue to rule our operating system and get in the way of living our most joyful life. We tend to attract or be drawn to people that reflect back to us the things we believe about ourselves. Our inner critic guides us through the lens of “not enoughness”. To have the life we desire, we need to do the inner work of excavating those beliefs fro our childhood and replace them with new, empowering beliefs that reflect our adult goals and visions. Questions: What are shadow beliefs and how are they formed? How do our shadow beliefs keep us playing small? How do we uncover our beliefs? How do we use fear as a driving force for change? How to our shadow beliefs keep us from setting healthy boundaries.

NOTES:

-Shadow believes and shadow work -Overcompensation -How do you play with your shadow -You always get what you are committed to -Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (sp?) at 61 years old -Mental lessons learned from physical challenges -Fitness -Marriage reflections and awarenesses -Boundaries

Cris is a Master Certified Coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and a certified Psychosynthesis Life Coach, ICF Mentor, Assessor, and Coach Supervisor. She is also a Professional Certified Supervisor Counselor, with over 5000 hours of post-graduate training in many fields. She began her coaching career in 1986, driving her sled-dog racing team to regional and world championships level over the next 10 years. She moved into the helping professions in 2008 with an emphasis on training, gaining accreditation as an Educational Trainer in the field of Psychosynthesis counseling, and working her way up to Counselor Supervisor. She became certified as a Psychosynthesis Life Coach in 2016 with The Synthesis Center (Amherst, MA). This was a natural evolution for her. Psychosynthesis, developed over a century ago by Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli, M.D, is a psychology of the Spirit, a heart-centered transpersonal psychology which is generally considered the forerunner of Positive Psychology today. It provides a unique and powerful vision of the human psyche, leading to an understanding of the psychological elements and dynamics in play and how we can become the Observer-Director of our own inner world, developing true Self-Leadership. Cris’ Psychosynthesis work as a coach trainer was initially with The Synthesis Center. In 2017 she co-founded Synthesis Coaching Associates (SCA), a Psychosynthesis life coach training and coaching services organization based in Easton, MD. She is the creator or co-creator of 5 professional coach training programs, including SCA’s ICF-accredited 165 hour Transformational Psychosynthesis Life Coach program and the Green Coaching program of Ecopsiché, an Italian ecopsychology school, and has authored, co-authored, and contributed to journals, periodicals, and publications in the field of Psychosynthesis Life Coaching. While the basis of Cris’ work is Psychosynthesis, her interests and background range from Indovedic Psychology to Neuroscience applied to coaching, including Psychoenergetics, Positive Psychology, Emotional Management, Heart Intelligence, EcoTuning, Transpersonal Ecopsychology, EcoCounseling, and more. Her approach to coaching is holistic and transformational at a transpersonal level, combining an acute awareness of the essence of her clients with an immensely practical outlook focused on achieving excellence and Self leadership. She runs both her coaching practice and SCA’s live sessions from a mountainside property in the Italian Alps as well as worldwide via her online coach/training platform.

Born in India, I grew up with mind-numbing social contrast confronting me with every breath, and I still ricochet between dark despair and exultant wonder. As outside, so within - a hall of mirrors reflecting my own abundance and poverty, disarray and elegance, limitation and possibility. My life has been a journey of finding that place I call HOME, the still center, where I hold all polarities with simplicity and love. I believe we all have a similar search for home, where we can come back to our true selves. I dedicate my life to facilitating that journey for myself and for others. For more than a decade, my central focus has been to bring change into the world of children (new consciousness) through educational spaces and family life. I am the founder and Managing Trustee of a non-profit AURA (www.auraplace.org) ) that provides free education in India. I am also co-founder of Stones2milestones (www.stones2milestones.com), a for-profit that is changing the way children learn in India. After a successful beginning in education I was introduced to transformational coaching through a simple conversation with a friend. The profession seemed like a natural springboard for me and I have been hooked ever since. Today I have a thriving coaching practice and am a faculty for coaching with Leadership That Works (www.leadershipthatworks.com). My work is as diverse as the country where I was born. Since 2010 I have also been very active in the field of Organisational Development with an emphasis on Visioning, Leadership Development and Team Synergy. My deep spiritual core is brought to life in my coaching and facilitation style. I am known for my positivity, for holding and creating clarity – situational and conceptual, as well as for supporting compassionate action. I am versatile and creative in designing and approaching the exploration and learning. I am author of the book 99 Marigold Mornings - a book of prayer poems. (http://www.amazon.in/99-Marigold- Mornings-Prayer-Everyday/dp/1945621842) At present I am pursuing a certification in NVC and in Trauma Healing through Somatic Experiencing. I hold a degree in education and have training in best practices in education under the umbrella of Project Zero, from Harvard University. I have also undergone professional development in Emotional Intelligence, Appreciative Inquiry, Human Process Work, the Bay NVC Leadership Program and am a certified Hogan Personality Inventory Coach.

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed till it is faced.” James Baldwin At this disruptive time in history, we probably have more collective courage to face all that needs deep change, and we have more responsibility to make life giving choices. Before every powerful choice comes crystal clear clarity, and as coaches that is one of the greatest values we add to our clients – deep clarity. It is the bed rock of alignment and possible action. We can no longer work with the individual without addressing the system that surrounds the individual. Our coaching must bring in larger dimensions and finer nuances of awareness, especially with respect to the client’s connection to their living world and how it includes or excludes them. We need to highlight the currently held lens on isms and understand the silent but ubiquitous presence/influence of social systems, in each moment of coaching. Acknowledging and holding this in awareness expands and matures the coach’s presence and it opens more for the client to get curious about, which will lead to greater clarity, alignment and possibility for the client.

I am a Professor of Economics and Personal Finance at the Open University. I also lead a coaching program for developing Faculty academics. My coaching qualifications and accreditations include a Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring from the Institute of Leadership and Management, a Certificate in Coach Mentoring supervision and Associate Certified Coach status with the International Coaching Federation. My services include leadership coaching, financial coaching, coach supervision and financial wellness education.

Academic life has changed a lot in the last decade or so. The pressure to teach well, publish in top ranked journals, win research grants and take on management tasks has led to a much more intensive working environment. Added to this, academics often see themselves – and are seen by others – in a powerful role where they dispense knowledge, wisdom, advice and answers. This can present a barrier to seeking help through personal and professional development. This is where coaching may be of tremendous service. Non-judgement and reflective inquiry help academics identify and overcome obstacles. The key here is that they take responsibility for setting outcomes and goals. The coach (academic manager/leader or external coach) acts as their thinking and accountability partner – but the action which leads to professional growth is decided upon and delivered by the individual academic. This approach creates a space where the academic can reflect upon what originally attracted them to the job – likely to include love of a subject area, the joy in sharing knowledge and the agency to engage in research and knowledge generation.

NOTES: -Coaching and academia -Bringing love back to academia -Coaching invites us to pause and listen -Why coaching lends itself to academia -Culture shifting -Finding yourself a champion -Self-less and being autistic as coaches versus coaching being about selfish -What I can control versus how people interpret it -His article on coaching: Introducing a Coaching Culture within an Academic Faculty International Journal of Evidence-Based Coaching and Mentoring, Vol 20 (1) pp83-92  https://radar.brookes.ac.uk/radar/items/0b9c41fe-c2a4-4348-92cf-0284c107a51e/1/

Following his passions, first, at Made for Joy, a group that is connecting people, communities and resources by designing extraordinary experiences first in real life and now in Virtual Reality. Made for Joy inspires people to embrace, cultivate and share joy. WHY JOY? Because Joy can be found in moments, but the joy that lasts a lifetime is found in ourselves. No matter our circumstances, how we view and respond to the world around us is the way to joy. It is a path to walk and a skill to cultivate. When we live life understanding joy is a choice and a way to live, we have the capacity to experience joy in any moment. As we become more distanced from each other Abbott is pouring his experience into the field of Virtual Reality, focused on supporting community and human connection in new and innovative ways. Another passion is mentoring. Abbott is also working with and coaching, entrepreneurs from Latin America as an investor at BlueBox Ventures (BlueBoxmx.com), Latin America’s leading corporate accelerator. "They’re on the ground, helping pre-seed and seed venture entrepreneurs achieve their dreams, while bringing social responsibility, innovation and entrepreneurism to multi-billion-dollar corporations. The playing field has leveled from twenty-five years of internet access. And, we have a responsibility to assist in the next phase of the world economy by helping youth rethink what employment today really means,” said Abbott. But he also cautions very careful who you choose to work with in the exploding startup ecosystems, “what you see is not always what you get, so be sure you do your due diligence.” Abbott founded, was a partner in, and finally sold Oak Creek Trail, a lean results-oriented digital marketing agency. Oak Creek invests in its clients as partners, not projects, and together creates strategy-driven digital solutions that last. Oak Creek, founded at the early stages of the internet, was not your typical marketing agency. And finally he's at TEDxSanDiego creating a model of a sustainable TEDx organization. Abbott founded TEDxSanDiego in 2009, one of the first in the world. His passion is being a part of the TEDx organizer community, curating/discovering talent of all kinds, and coaching coaches!

We often go through life with the perception that it will last a long time. Sometimes, we get a reminder of just how precious and fragile our existence is. In those moments, we have the potential to experience monumental shifts in the way we approach life. This is a discussion about those shifts and why it’s worth applying them before we get within one one hundredth of a second away from death.

NOTES: - Being one one hundredth of a second away from death. (What happened? What was the impact? How can we all apply the insights from the experience in our own life?) - Three questions in John’s Book “The Cafe on the Edge of the World” (Why are you here? Do you fear death? Are you fulfilled?) - Museum Day Concept (What is it and how can it be applied to live an amazing life?) - Implement your non-negotiables - (What does that mean and why do it?). - Know your numbers. (Why does this matter? What are the reasons to do it and the consequences of not doing it.) - Where do profit and purpose intersect? - What are “Near Life” moments as opposed to “Near Death?” (What are those and what makes them so powerful?)

From New York Times bestsellers to Pulitzer Prize candidates, Milli Brown empowers authors as the founder and CEO of Brown Books Publishing Group (BBPG), known as The Entrepreneurial Publisher for Entrepreneurial Authors®. Ms. Brown forged a New Era in Publishing® in 1994 by launching a fiercely independent publishing house with an innovative business model that is now recognized by the industry as The First Hybrid Publisher™. Milli Brown's commitment to authors--building successful relationships and developing award-winning books for those who wish to retain the rights to their intellectual property-is the cornerstone of her company. This dedication has resulted in a roster that includes CEOs, business professionals, media personalities, sports figures, celebrities, and bestselling authors.

This topic deals with an overview of book publishing. Listeners will understand the entire publishing process and be able to choose which option is best for their projects. Hearing from a veteran of the publishing industry who knows the business from the ground up will allow them to tune out the (often contradictory) advice they might haphazardly find on the internet and help them make an informed decision. Jennie Antolak, president and co-founder of Learning Journeys, and Tirzah Marie Lewis, Director of Creative Development, lead a motley crew of engaging, intelligent, and fun coaches and coaching trainers representing all areas of business, non-profit, entrepreneurial, and educational arenas. They collectively provide a place where people learn and apply the true essence of coaching. There are no lessons on skillfully advising, artfully connecting dots, or keenly identifying blind spots for clients. Instead, they teach students how to trust the process of coaching and experience the true strength of the human spirit. In each class, Jennie and Tirzah demonstrate how coaching is the one modality which, if fully embraced, can magnify one’s sense of agency and conviction. In addition, they faithfully teach the coaching competencies that help others reconnect to their inner resources by tuning into intuition instead of listening to experts outside of themselves.

Jennie and Tirzah have a combined 38+ years in the world of learning and development. Jennie possesses a degree in Communications, a Master’s Degree in Organizational Development, a Coach Practitioner and Mastery Level Certification, a Narrative Certification, and is an MCC level certified coach.

Tirzah obtained her degree in Organizational Communications and holds both a Coach Practitioner and Narrative Certification. In addition, she is ACC credentialed.

While both Jennie and Tirzah value experience and education, many of their less recognized successes are some of their proudest moments. Antolak relishes and shares with anyone who will listen about being crowned champion of the Layfette Square Noodle Races. And then there is Tirzah’s recent accomplishment-being awarded the Master of Pivoting; with the caveat of; most likely to lose her “Zoom Face” when disagreeing with the seemingly “simple answer”.  (Not everyone is as appreciates Tirzah’s latest success, but it doesn’t stop her from sharing either.)

Both Jennie and Tirzah are committed to upping their game by always learning, constantly pushing the boundaries, and continuously striving for more. They hope the next time they connect with you, you will be a part of this Learning Journey, and it will be you that has a story you can’t wait to share.

Episode Summary Darcy began her own coaching and consulting firm in 2013 and built it into a half a million dollar a year company in a short amount of time in a challenging industry. Before launching her firm, she worked for a leadership consulting firm and ran U.S. Senator Kohl’s office for 12 years (Kohl was president of Kohl’s department stores and owner of the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team), where she was entrusted to handle sensitive, urgent matters and contentious situations. She met with savvy lobbyists and concerned citizen groups, organized political events and rallies with tens of thousands of people, and managed protestors who staged die-ins and hijacked her office for days at a time to protest the war, requiring her to sleep there with federal protective services by her side. Darcy is a lifelong learner. Okay, a self-help junkie. She is continually studying the best ways to develop strong leaders, create high-performing teams, and transform organizational culture. As such, she regularly has ten books on her nightstand, attends professional conferences and webinars more often than she goes to the movies, and has more degrees and certifications than shoes. Her Thoughtfully Fit model weaves together all of her research on the hurdles that get in the way of being high-performing to help leaders be intentional in all their interactions for greatest impact. Episode Summary How Culturally Intelligent are you and why should you care about developing a cultural mindset? To stay on the leading edge in our complex, interconnected world and diverse workforce. “CQ (cultural intelligence) is a critical capability for navigating today’s increasingly global and diverse business environment. It’s so important that we made it one of our core behaviors at PwC.” —Robert Mortiz, Chair Price Waterhouse Coopers, United States, with “Ninety percent of leading executives from 68 countries identify intercultural skills as among the most important capabilities required to remain competitive,” as reported by Ang, Van Dyne, & Rockstuhl. “It is impossible to not work interculturally!” Marilyn O'Hearne says, even in your own community and organization, when you consider gender, generation, ethnicity, region, sexual orientation, religion, ability/disability, etc. It's easy to be afraid of crossing the line, and challenging to know what the line is. Don't end up either doubting yourself or blindly forging ahead, overconfidently believing you "have arrived" because you have taken a training, or traveled, or have some intercultural experience. You can increase your impact and prosperity as you commit to further developing your cultural mindset, with a little guidance. Join Marilyn and us for discovering 4 keys to developing your crucial for success cultural mindset.

Episode Summary

Evolutionary design and thinking allows for shaping the context to meet not only the current needs but also what will emerge or is waiting to be born from the field of pure potential. Transformation that is more revolutionary or driven through the projection of the ego mind - invokes that within us which lends to more control mindsets and separation dynamics. Transformation designed within evolutionary thinking and experiencing processes allows for current to meet the natural to meet the emergent. When these three elements come together - it raises consciousness of those involved leading to different solutions and approaches that were just not possible earlier. This is a powerful change process to call out and transform the power imbalances we exist in and how systems can be biased against specific communities, where by reducing their voice and choice. As coaches and coach educators we are responsible for designing approaches that allow for greater and healthier voice and choice. The integration of intuition and rational energies and thoughts and experiences can lead to powerful awakening and this need to be integrated into coaching and coach education.

Episode Summary

This show intends to inspire, encourage and challenge participants toward a greater understanding of neurodiversity, defined as “the range of differences in individual brain function and behavioral traits, regarded as part of normal variation in the human population.” Broaden your perspective toward the great variety of human emotional, cognitive, and behavioral expression and the benefits of valuing all each person can contribute. We will contrast three views of brain-based conditions: the medical model, normalized and well-managed. Concerns and implications for people who suffer with brain-based impairments will be recognized. We’ll explore the coaching sub-culture of ADHD coaching which embraces neurodiversity while meeting the needs of clients who are challenged by stigma and ignorance. ADHD coaches accompany each client on a very individual journey to from disability to wholeness. We can look at concrete actions coach training programs can take to meet the needs of a neurodiverse student population – and train coaches to meet the needs of neurodiverse clients.

Episode Summary

Understanding Cognitive Distortions is quite helpful as an inclusion practice, because often the thoughts of exclusion come from the culturally inherited hidden and distorted thinking, and linguistic patterns. In this discussion, listeners will learn how to identify the most common cultural cognitive distortions as well as how to select effective coaching inquiries based on those distortions. Tijen will explain her tried and true technique of Genco Method Reconstructive Inquiry© (GMRI©) with the audience. This technique brings mindfulness along with evidence-based methodologies, to create a unique and effective approach to coaching. Tijen will also offer examples of language that are used in English to enable heightened awareness towards linguistic patterns that contribute to disharmony within the society. This may offer opportunities for listeners for self-directed change as well as opportunities of growth for their ability to re-cognize such patterns in the coaching conversations and support client’s self-awareness about them.

Episode Summary Based on Sharon and Steven's experiences over 9 years as a culturally diverse teaching team, leading culturally diverse students with very different levels of cultural awareness in a coaching curriculum that explores power, privilege, rank, race, culture and oppression, we want to support coaches, coach trainers and ICF to re-imagine the future of coaching and coach training.

We believe it is important to move beyond diversity and inclusion. With diversity and inclusion there are still power dynamics (i.e. who has the power to “include” in order to create diversity?). When we shine light on those dynamics without shaming, blaming or attacking, we can disrupt norms that don’t work for everyone and then innovate as we redesign a future that can provide true equity and belonging for all.

Guests:

Sharon Brown: I identify as Black, African American, cis-gender heterosexual female in my 60s. Mother, partner, grandmother, coach, coach educator, social change agent. Partially visible disability. More spiritual than religious. Grew up in a working class home with parents who valued the higher education they were denied. Live in northern New Jersey, USA where I was born and raised. Passionate about learning, indigenous wisdom, supporting cross-cultural connection, and contributing to social change.

Steven Filante: I am a white, bi-sexual cis-gender male in my 60s. Born to two doctors in California, I brought the tendency to tell intimate details of my life within the first 5 minutes to rural Northern Pennsylvania in 2003. Raised Jewish, I currently find my spiritual aliveness in my connection to the earth. I am a coach and coach trainer, bringing out the magic in those I work with. Creating, sustaining and enjoying community connection keeps my heart open and free.

Episode Summary

We will make a clear and unambiguous call for those in the coach training space to interrogate how issues belonging, equity, diversity and inclusion can become more visible in our profession. If this is to happen, it will require those engaged in the training of potential and would-be coaches understand the differences between individual and group level experiences. The need for Coaches, and more specifically, coach trainers, to do the necessary self-work related to issues of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion is long overdue. Our topic will invite Coaches to identify their own social identity blind spots, and to discard feelings of shame and/or blame in pursuit of developing a more expansive and robust coaching offer.

Episode Summary We will explore the impact of how unacknowledged social identities impact our ability to coach the individual in the systemic context in which they are living, working and creating. While we engage with others from our nuanced, differentiated, unique identities, others tend to engage with us (at least initially) in response to experiences, generalizations and stereotypes from our group identities. In order to enter into a trusting coach-client relationship that fosters self-leadership, it's important to name what's present right out of the gate. Being able to help a client locate their experiences in the broader cultural context will accelerate their ability to reach their goals.

Episode Summary The unprecedented speed of this global pandemic is creating organizational shock and uncertainty. Your corporate strategy became obsolete when the global economy shut down in March. There is no playbook for our current market dynamics and the CO19 is an impetus to reimagine, reinvent, and reinvigorate a portfolio approach to business model innovation. Remote team leaders need mission-critical strategy alignment with the ability to turn daily huddles of their top priorities into visual strategies, so they can: • Stabilize current and generate new revenues, • Keep and maximize their talent capabilities, • Collaborate with their teams digitally to co-create, and • Enhance their brand value while they mitigate risk amid the CO19 storm.

Join us and senior leadership/board advisor and best-selling author of Relationship Economics, Co-Create, and the forthcoming Curve Benders, David Nour, as he shares insights from global executive conversations in the past six weeks, his research into Crisis Resilience, and innovation opportunities from Co-Creation.

What are you seeing, hearing from global leaders in your coaching efforts? What is Agile Alignment and why is it so crucial right now in coaching senior executives? What is your research on Crisis Resilience uncovering in leadership shortcomings? You wrote Co-Create a couple of years ago; why is the concept so relevant now in executive coaching and in the post-COVID19 world?

Episode Summary

Join Kathy Atkins of The Lattitude Group as she breaks down Strategic Planning during these trying times.  The Strategic Planning must be centered around how to keep the company viable through the crisis and maintain as many key resources as possible in the meantime. That is especially difficult given the uncertainty of the length and depth of the crisis. Nonetheless, that is the task at hand, and it is a weekly one at the least, and most likely a daily one.  The first half of this episode we focus on the other planning you need to be doing now, which is also different than what you’ve typically done, IF YOU’VE BEEN DOING ANY PLANNING before. If you haven’t I hope this experience helps you realize the necessity of doing so systematically, with a change management/accountability system in place so that you are better prepared to deal with small to catastrophic changes. ss.

The second half, Patrick Ungashick with NAVIX Consultants and his work supporting business owners with their exit planning!

It is difficult to exaggerate how important exit success is to a business owner. Practically everything most business owners cherish or seek to achieve is impacted by their exit, including personal aspirations such as financial freedom and peace of mind, and business objectives such as protecting employees, serving customers, and preserving the company's culture. Yet, most business owners do not have any clear plan for how to exit happily.

In our discussion, we will understand why so many owners struggle to exit successfully, and identify the specific steps owners can take to start preparing for exit--and when they need to do so.

Episode Summary Positive social relationships affect physical and mental health, and can promote well-being and healthy behavior in both the individual and those within their social network such as friends, family, and children. In the family realm, we know that parenting support programs reduce child maltreatment, neglect, and corporal punishment while also increasing use of positive parenting practices and improving parent confidence.  While this is true for all parents, mothers share the brunt of the family life responsibilities and they are often the gatekeepers of family relationships. Mothers impact home life, school life, work life…you name it. We know that parents, especially moms, are stressed, and when family life suffers, that spills into all realms of life. Science is clear that having more positive than negative interactions improves relationships and improving relationships yields healthier and happier outcomes for family members and the workplace. Family Life Coaching is an evidence-based approach to support family members, including parents and moms. In this podcast, Dr. Allen share more about the impact of stress on families, the importance of supporting families, and how coaching is the way to do it!

Episode Summary

For every 100 small businesses that start in America, 50 will make it to their 5th year and only 15 will be around by the 10th year. The SBA cites several reasons for failure, with lack of infrastructure being one of them.

That's right - some companies fail because they have too much business and the lack of infrastructure rears its ugly head as they try, unsuccessfully, to meet customer demand. This is what Alicia specializes in - she has a tried and tested methodology for creating business infrastructure for fast-growing companies looking to scale to the next level in a profitable and sustainable way.

Listeners will learn what business infrastructure is, why it's important, and how to implement it.\

Our second guest, Richard Kuritz, shares on how many who want to promote their book, business, or cause think that radio band TV are the path to success. While media exposure can certainly help one’s promotional plan, doing it wrong often does more harm than good. Getting on the air and doing it well takes a real understanding of yourself, what you want to convey, and what the host and the audience wants to hear. It is sometimes about luck and connections, but it is always about persistence, diligence, and talent. So if you are going to suggest that your coaching client be on radio and TV, you had better know the how, or the who, that can prep them for media. In his day job, Richard is the media relations coordinator for Strategies Literary PR. He contacts producers, designs and writes segments, helps media train clients, and also does radio and written commentary. He is here to share some of the basics about pitching, crafting, performing, and follow-up that are crucial elements applicable to anyone who expects to address the public via media.

Episode Summary

People come to me saying that their #1 problem at work or at home is communication. I have to tell them that they're wrong. The #1 problem in your relationships is competition and that's why there's a breakdown in communication. When there's competition within a team, between boss and employee, between coworkers or in your love life you end up with individuals who don't want to take risks so creativity, problem-solving and communication all hit a wall.

I'm going to teach your listeners who to shift the paradigm to one of a shared battery (at work nothing is divided equally, especially by time and at home it's not your turn to put away the dishes). These scenarios put people on opposite teams where someone is going to win and someone is going to lose. That means if you get more of something, I'm going to end up with less - you can't have a "winning team" with that type of mindset.

Most of this happens at the unconscious level (our conscious brains process information at a rate of 50 bits per second, while our unconscious brains process information at a rate of 11 million bits per second - that's not a typo! So, people don't hear what you say, they hear what you mean; and this is where communication really breaks down. I'll teach your listeners how to align their words with their meaning so they can stop competing and start connecting and communicating. (This involves training your attention and setting intention)

Guest 1: Dr. Abby Medcalf

Episode Summary

It is a long-held belief that "coaching, is coaching, is coaching"...and as more women and people of color gain access to coaching support, it is becoming clear that social group identity can factor into the coaching relationship. The topic of coaching with identity in mind is one that has moved to the forefront in discussions about coach competency and coach training.

As Coaches, when and how do we intervene in a coaching conversation that has taken an unexpected turn to issues of social group identity? How does my power as a Coach (the often unacknowledged, but perceived expert in the coaching relationship) play out in a coaching relationship with someone whose worldview is different from my own? When does my lack of knowledge of systemic and cultural awareness trigger a fear of saying the "wrong thing" thereby keeping me from meeting the client where they are in the coaching conversation?

Listeners will learn to: 1. Own their power in the coach-client dynamic; 2. Understand the impact of "in and out-group" dynamics as a key to understanding their clients; and 3. Explore the benefit of applying the Fifth Domain Coaching Model to their coaching framework.

Guest:  Joel Roberts Great coaches are trained to empower others to succeed. For the most part, they do this discreetly, behind the scenes, putting the spotlight on their clients. But in our experience working with thousands of coaches, when it comes to calling attention to, and promoting themselves, most are like deer in the headlights. They default to generic jargon and the vast majority sound alike. In this era of unlimited competition, this simply won't do. Joel Roberts shows you how to break out of the pack. How to use your personal story -- and the stories of your clients -- stand out. How to grab attention fast by busting myths. How to instantly establish your credibility and get people to fall in love with you.
