Tom Stalker (7(2)-0) was not just one of the best amateurs in the UK but is quickly becoming one of the top prospects in UK professional boxing. He once again took the time out to speak with v2journal.com and as ever it was a pleasure to hear his news and views along with a big announcement on his future.
“I found it easy to begin with, but then started to get a little tired”
Tom took only a week off after his points win against Calum Cooper on March 8th at Aintree. A fight that Stalker himself describes as priceless experience. This was his first fight over an eight round distance and in Cooper we had a guy who is a sparring partner to the likes of Frankie Gavin etc. In other words, it was no pushover. Tom got off to a flyer and admits he found it easy to begin with, but then once the untested waters began to get deeper he did find it tiring. But this is irrelevant because he still won convincingly and looked good in the process.
“I'll be back out on May 17th on Frank Warren's card at the Echo Arena (Liverpool)”
Tom will be back in action on a big bumper card at the Echo Arena stacked with Liverpool's finest on May 17th so make sure to get down and support all the fighters on that bill. More details on this card are to follow so watch this space....
“I will moving to Marbella to train at Matthew Macklin's gym”
The big announcement to come from our chat is that Tom and his family will be moving out to Marbella, Spain. Matthew Macklin's gym being the fight factory that Tom hopes will mould him into the fighter that surely will succeed. In Macklin's gym there will be top quality sparring with such names as Bradley Saunders, Jamie Kavanagh and other top Eastern European fighters. Tom also insists that the climate and altitude will improve his stamina and overall fitness.
“I make Light Welter so easily”
Finally, we touched on whether Tom will be sticking around the light welter division or moving up or down......simple answer....”I'm staying at light welter for the rest of my career”.
Welcome to another episode for the V2 Boxing Podcast, this week the lads are reviewing the action involving Danny Garcia, Saul "Canelo" Alverez, Alfredo Angulo, Kell Brook, Tony Bellew, Rocky Fielding and looking at what is going to happen next with Amir Khan.

On tonights v2 Boxing show, we are joined by Team Fury one and half weeks out from Tysons career defining bout with the Hayemaker.
But before the interview, Chris and Adam have a quick round up of the weekends action, reflecting on the Mayweather fight, the performance of Garcia and a look back at the Hennessy card from Rotherham.
Who would have thought anyone in their sane mind would have prefered the British fight to the HBO card from Vegas? Well one of the podcast team did!
The second half of the show kicks in at around the 20 minute mark where the Fury's join the show to give us an update on the final preparations for the big fight.
As always both Peter and Tyson are in fine form and give us an insight into the final few weeks of the training camp.
Tyson talks about his next steps and what he wants to achieve post September 28th. He talks frankly about his favoured type of opponent whilst Peter is quite open about what type of fight we are likely to see - a come forward Tyson.
Tyson claims to be the "craziest person" in boxing but comes over as an always likeable character, even when still calling Haye a "pussy". We finish off the interview with a quick discussion about Hughies next opponent and the challenges he faces.
Hopefully you will enjoy the interview - its another great candid interview.
A huge thank you to both Tyson and Peter for their time.

Good evening all! After a week break, the v2 Boxing Show returns with a round up of last weekends action.
Chris and Adam talk in depth over the Burns Beltran fight and what we believe can be done to stop results and so called "robberies" happening.
After the Burns talk, we moved on to looking at Mayweather and his fight with Alvarez. Is there any way that Mayweather is going to lose this one? Well Adam thinks that his prediction record in the big fights means that by baking Floyd, he is now a dead cert to lose!
Finally, we move on to the Fury v Haye bout and whether our opinions have changed any since the bout was announced.
Amazingly, our collective opinion has changed. Can Fury do the unthinkabble and win?
Lets just say that although Chris doesnt think so, we are both hoping that he does.
The show ends on a question for our listeners - why do referees wear a short sleeve shirt and bow tie? Lets hear your thoughts and suggestions as to what they should wear!
You can get in touch at boxing@v2journal.com or on twitter at @v2journal.
Last night we were joined by Enzo Calzaghe MBE for a Welsh boxing round up special.
Following on from this weekends action, v2 thought it might be a good idea to get the thoughts of the former Ring trainer of the year on the latest performances from Enzo Mac and Nathan Cleverly.
As always, Enzo had some strong views on the career of both of his former fighters. He talked about what he could do for both boxers at this stage of their career, as well as what he thought they did well and not so well.
And as a finale, he also talked about Joe Calzaghes toughest fight - the fig tarte tartin from Masterchef!
A huge thank you to Enzo for joining us and please note that the show is now moving to Monday evenings starting the 2nd September.
We will be rejoined by Enzo on that night where he will be answering your questions as per our regular "Ask Enzo" feature. So if you have any, please post your questions here - or alternatively you can email us at boxing@v2journal.co.uk
And dont forget to subscribe on iTunes or Podomatic to ensure you get to hear all future shows.

Welcome back to another edition of the v2 Boxing show.
This week Adam and Owen are joined by not only one great guest but two who are both friends of the show and returning guests.
First up is Jay Deas, manager of Deontay Wilder. For those who have heard our previous interviews with Jay, its refreshing to find an American manager with such a grasp of the world scene, especially the UK.
During the conversation, he talks about Deontays likely upcoming opponents, sparring with David Haye and the fight path that he has for Deontay to get him to a world title fight - you might be surprised how quickly it is!
The one thing that always comes over when talking to Jay is just how knowledgable he is and the feeling that Deontay is in with someone who understands the business.
After Jay left us, we were joined by Peter Fury to give us an update on Tysons training camp. As always, Peter was entertaining and straight talking. We discussed the pictures of Tyson that were posted and the way that the training camp was shaping up, as well as the sparring partners that the team were currently using.
Although Peter stopped short of talking fight night tactics (obviously!), he did give us an insight into how he felt the fight was going to play out.
As well as all things Tyson, we also had a brief chat with Peter about Hughies progress and the fights they have tried to line up including an ex world champ.
Finally the show ends with a very quick 5 minute run down of this weeks action along with our predictions.
Enjoy the show and spread the word!
