The origin of our souls says a lot about how our souls are meant to function. God's breath is the essential characteristic of the human soul. Our souls have their source in God, they depend on Him and long for Him. There is power in Psalm 23 that we have not yet experienced because this psalm has been more of a "nursery rhyme" familiarity which has caused us to lose sight of its profound nature. Psalm 23 is David's confession of his surrender to the Lord's leadership over his life. David is portraying a life we were meant to enjoy~ a life in which we lack nothing. In Luke 11, Jesus tells the parable of the persistent friend and He relates that persistence to our life of prayer. Jesus calls it shameless audacity and it is a quality that He celebrates in us. If you are holding onto a promise or a word from God, do not get discouraged or distracted. Keep asking, seeking and knocking. Jesus tells us "for everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened". Jesus is a truth-teller, so do not give up. Andrew Murray says, "When you get a promise from God it is worth just as much as its fulfillment. A promise brings you into direct contact with God. Honor Him by trusting the promise and obeying Him and if there is any preparation that you still need, God knows about it and if there is anything that is to be opened up to you He will do it, if you count on Him to do it."
