Sounds spark images in our mind. These audio posts are snapshots of life at Edgewood School (Scarsdale, NY). When you listen to our teachers and students, these are the sounds you see.
Here's a throwback to the year 2013, when we sat then Edgewood 3rd graders Justin and Ben into our sound studio to create this audio retelling of Aesop's Lion and the Mouse. The best part? Our librarian Alison Turner had second graders imagine how they would trap an unsuspecting monster, using a limited set of supplies, such as paper, string, and paper clips. This experience of designing, building, and testing the device as a team, produced results that go beyond the mere goal of trapping the monster. For the second year in a row, our 5th Grade students sang at a Mets game. Ms. Giustino and Ms. Forte led our chorus in singing the National Anthem to open the game between the Marlins and Mets. (September 26, 2019)
Second graders in Mrs. Mangiamele & Mrs. Ross's class collaborated with Ms. Giustino to compose a "soundtrack" for the story Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon. Students chose musical instruments to represent story characters and actions in the spirit of Prokofiev's Peter and Wolf. (September 20, 2019)
During International Dot Day (Week), Edgewood students came to the library for exercises in creative problem solving. Third graders in Mr. Cadalzo's class attempted to construct the tallest sculpture using small plates and tape. Most students built free-standing structures of plates that were taped to each other. Free-standing was not a requirement, so this group cut their plates into strips and taped them together to build their own "Great Wall," which they held vertically. (September 25)
For many years, our opening Assembly has welcomed all newcomers to Edgewood. Staff and students. It's a charming tradition, especially when students in Grades 1-5 walk to the front of the assembly audience and introduces their new classmates. (September 16, 2019)
Edgewood specials teachers got together for a mass collaborative experience guiding students through a series of physical and mind-bending challenges. These second grade students each received a puzzle piece and worked together to reveal the mystery image. (September 3, 2019)
Have you ever heard of the Tablas? Our friend Ronak in Mr. DelMonaco’s fifth grade class has not only heard of them, but he plays it beautifully!! Ronak recently performed at Classical Cafe on the Tablas, and of course, he was amazing!! We spoke to Ronak after his performance. He talked about about the Tablas and his personal experiences with them! Fellow fifth grader Christina interviewed Ronak, then edited her piece in Garageband.
