In order to understand the reason for being water baptised, it is important to carefully consider what the Bible says about it: Jesus himself was baptised. He was not a sinner, yet he humbled himself in obedience to identify with us and give us an example to follow.
Opportunities to help those in need bring mixed feelings and a lot of questions. Doesn’t God help those who help themselves? Won’t I have less if give what I have away? Isn’t what I have for to be used for myself? Its easy to feel bad even thinking such things. While we are not meant to feel condemned, we also must realize there could be an invitation from the Spirit to live more simply and give more generously. The revelation that everything is God’s and we are stewards of His resources changes everything.
Christians who live to encourage others are brilliant reflections of the Kingdom of God. They are those who offer support, instill confidence, and share hope. As we learn how to live well with one another, it's critical that we understand the kind of relationships we're supposed to have with others. Christ-like love, the sacrficial love he showed for us, is the key to understanding our role as encouragers in the kingdom.
We have been reconciled to God and given a ministry of reconciliation. Reconciliation indicates the end of hostilities and the restoration of good relationship. God wants us to shout from the rooftop is that he is for us and not against us. The church not only needs to declare this message, but also put it into practice by being a forgiving and reconciling community. Our personal relationship with Jesus is both the pattern and the power of forgiveness that we share with others.
The phrase “the Body of Christ” is a common metaphor for the Church. Those in Christ are described as one body with many members. That analogy is not only seen in a local church body, but in the universal church that is comprised of every believer on the planet. God’s desire and design for his church is one of unity, even while displaying tremendous diversity.
Servanthood is the master’s master principle. Jesus challenged his disciples to understand that the greatest among them would be those who serve. The challenges of this past season have resulted in many people becoming myopic and self-centered. This is because many have had to navigate life alone. One of the greatest ways to break out of a self-serving mentality is to set your heart on serving others.
We need hope to sustain and strengthen us in difficult times. Hope is a picture of a preferred future. Our hope as followers of Jesus is in the reality of heaven. This hope we established in Christ's finished work on our behalf and in his promise to return for us. This hope is what roots our lives and allows us to live with faith and love in our present circumstances.

Vainglory is the need to be thought well of by others; it is driven by the notion that the assessment of others determines our worth. The world measures worth on the basis of appearance, production, and performance, but God measures our worth in and through His Son, Jesus. Its through an abiding relationship with Jesus that we let go of personal power and relevance and instead humbly and faithfully do whatever God wants us to do, leaving the results with Him.
Jesus lived in a day when people practiced reciprocity, meaning if someone blessed you, you would bless them in return or if someone cursed or injured you, you would do the same to them. That was also a time where average citizens felt disempowered, vulnerable, and exposed because the wealthy and powerful did not follow the same standards as everyone else. It was into this context that Jesus inserted the Kingdom of God, which invited people, irrespective of their position, to reach for something higher than retaliation and justice, and to bless those who would do them harm.
Lying has become highly pervasive in our culture. We may be tempted to think we are relatively honest people when in fact we are constantly shifting words, withholding truths and “fudging” on details. Its easy to live on an extreme when it comes to lying – becoming comfortable with telling lies or leaning toward legalism and affirming that we must never lie. God’s desire is that we turn to him for wisdom and guidance, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts and help us with the dilemmas and struggles we face.
God desires for us to turn our attention to things that bring wholeness and health in our relationship with Him, others and ourselves. Lust is diminished when we come to realize our need is actually more of Him and less of ourselves. Sometimes, in pursuit of our practical needs, we mistrust and doubt God's ability to sustain and satisfy us. We are deeply loved and valued by God and he desires us to be fulfilled in him alone. Lust has no hold on us when we comprehend and partake in the source that is never-ending and will always leave us satisfied.
We tend to believe our anger is justifiable, but in reality, most anger is myopic and unbeneficial. Why do we react with anger? What triggers it, and how do we overcome and ultimately live without it? A greater understanding of Christ-centered identity is necessary for anyone desiring freedom and good relationship with others.
Some Christians falsely claim that Jesus came to abolish the law, but truthfully he came to perfect its meaning and intention. Its only in a loving and abiding partnership with God that we fulfil the law, and in that same intimate relationship that we are indwelled with His values and attitudes.
The central proclamation and demonstration of Jesus’ ministry was the Kingdom of God. A kingdom is a realm where a king’s domain reigns supreme. Therefore, the Kingdom of God is a place where the rulership and life of God abounds. Where Jesus walked and lived he brought the Kingdom’s blessing with him, and this how he calls his followers to live as well.
We all have something that we lean on, something that supports us, holds us up, and gives us strength, joy and purpose in life. Many people lean on the ways of the world and end up truly unhappy. But a good and beautiful life is promised to those who lean on God, faithfully following and obeying his teachings.

God has gifted us with so much—Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, the Holy Spirit as our helper, and spiritual gifts to ensure we’re well furnished for every good work. There’s a high calling and a commitment on the day after Christmas. Will we fully utilize the gifts God has given?
Loneliness is an epidemic in our world. More people than ever before are feeling unwanted, unneeded, uncared for, and maybe even unnecessary. Friendship is what fills the gap between relational desires and experiences. Jesus is the perfect friend; He gives us exactly what we need and shows us how to be a good friend to others.
Our world has deep cultural narratives embedded into it. Whether passive or aggressive, national identities, religious beliefs, social standards, and other cultural influences have a powerful effect upon people. The culture that Jesus introduced is known as the Kingdom of God and his invitation is for every other culture to be transformed by its values
Many stories in the Bible foreshadow the coming of Jesus – signalizing a day when God would travel through time and space to be with his creation. One such story came by way of a dream had by a troubled young man named Jacob, who saw a stairway from heaven touching the earth. Jacob’s dream points to the Christmas story, revealing that God’s love breaks through barriers to reach a world that’s fallen asleep.
Making a pickle is a time-consuming process. You need to make brine—a vinegary, salty solution—and then place cucumbers in the brine and leave them for up to six weeks. Growing as a disciple of Jesus is a lot like making a pickle. You want to mature quickly, but spiritual growth doesn’t happen instantly. Today’s message will encourage you to slow down, to take time, and to patiently commit to doing life with God.
A dominant narrative, even among Christians, is “I am a sinner,” but the New Testament narrative is that Christians are in Christ and are new creations. Therefore “I am a saint” is a the more truthful declaration. Though Christ dwells in Christians, sin remains, but its power has been broken and it must not reign. The secret to living the Christian life is to “abide” in Christ, allowing Him to shine through weaknesses and vulnerabilities
Sin has distorted humanity. Its effects are seen globally, in communities, and in individual lives. The narrative of scripture reveals a holy God pursuing unholy people with a plan to set them apart for His holy purpose. Like the temple described in the Bible, God has purified his people. He’s reconciled them through his son, Jesus, and has commissioned them to manifest his glory in the world.
When it comes to God, self-sacrifice goes much deeper. God so loved the world that he sacrificed his son, even when we had no use for him. In other words, God sacrificed for us when we were his enemies!

The dominant narrative about God for many Christians is that God is angry and punishes us for our sins. A closer look at scripture reveals that Jesus rejected this idea. Jesus and the New Testament writers steer clear of explanations on the cause and effect notion of sin and suffering, and instead call us to do good while humbly trusting in God who is with us in life’s challenges.
What are you seeking? What do you want? What are you desiring, loving, and longing for? The answer to those questions will point to the dominant narratives that you live by. Jesus is meant to be first. He gave you His Spirit and His church to help shape and guide you into truth.
In order to build a stable foundation, we have to know what it truly means to follow Jesus. When it comes to our faith, we have to place our hope in Jesus.
When we experience empathy, which we've seen God has wired us to do before we can even consciously choose for ourselves, our ability to empathize is being developed, producing people who have the ability to empathize with others.
Jesus teaches that there is an ‘already, not yet’ element to the coming of the kingdom. As he taught in Mark 4, the kingdom is like a mustard seed that starts out small, but eventually covers the whole world. It’s already here with his coming, but it’s not yet fully unveiled.
We must place our faith and trust in the Lord as never before and know that we are safe and secure in his loving arms! There are many people who don’t know Jesus or how much he loves them and they are looking at the world today and saying, "where can I go to get away from this craziness?" Christian identity is not defined in terms of who you are in and of yourself. Your true identity comes as a result of what God does in you and through you.
