Daniel Moretti, MSc, Community Engagement Lead, (all pronouns) is Community Engagement Lead with PRIDEnet, based out of Stanford University. His work focuses on connecting LGBTQIA+ community members with ways to participate in research, such as The PRIDE Study and the All of Us Research Program, and creating opportunities for community input to inform all stages of the research process. Daniel has more than fifteen years of experience working at the cross sections of community engagement, social justice, research, and non-profit arts in diverse locations including San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, London (UK), and Cebu (Philippines).

In the words of others...The Cuban-German author graduated from the New World School of the Arts, received her BFA from the University of South Florida, and was selected for the Creative Capital Continued Education Program (host: Miami Dade Department of Cultural Affairs). She's moved to Los Angeles straight out of college, and signed to MSA dance agency where she worked as a freelance dancer in various music videos, commercials, tv shows, and movies. Then in 2012, Marissa moved back to Miami to start her own dance-theatre company Alma Dance Theater and became the founding artistic director for the festival: ScreenDance Miami.
While in Miami she's been an adjunct professor for the University of Miami's Musical Theater Department and has produced, choreographed, and directed live shows for Art Basel Miami, Faena Miami, Tigertail Productions, Vizcaya Museum, Perez Art Museum, Showfields Miami, and Together Arts.
TOM CHRIST is a co-founder of the Kindred Pride Foundation and One Magical Weekend. Tom has a deep passion for providing community-based services and support—as a thought partner and advisor on nonprofit boards. His passion for producing events and providing a safe-space for LGBTQ+ community members and their allies led to the creation of The Pride Cup.
He has worked for 25+ years an entrepreneur and leader with a long record of success overseeing successful, profitable businesses across industries including LGBTQ+ media, marketing, entertainment, and special events. Christ currently serves on the board of the Kindred Pride Foundation, is Leadership Chair of the RED Group and is a member of the One Orlando Alliance.

Our Facebook ministries are in every country of the world, Gay Christian Ministries with about 5,000 members and Gay Christian Men Ministries with more than 3,000 members. We are based here in Laguna Beach.
Both of my ministries have touched many lives all over the world for many that have been shut out, many who didn't have any churches available or couldn't go to a church for fear of being honest with themselves and being who they truly are they would be rejected, or even killed, out of hate and bigotry. We accept all people and love all people. We are tearing down walls and building up hope.
I am proud to say that in my 25 years, I have done my best to stand strong in our community as a vice moderator at Resurrection Beach Church in Costa Mesa for over 13 years and Good Samaritan Metropolitan Church for 5 years. Additionally, while also being a member at large for these organizations, I have worked as an outreach person for the homeless collecting blankets, clothing, food, and more; going out onto the street feeding them and clothing them. Indeed, I have had many tasks such as raising money for battered women and their children, sending them to Disneyland at Christmas, raising over $3,000 feeding the homeless in Laguna Beach, and in my spare time, I volunteer at the Friendship Shelter cooking dinner for them and also feeding the homeless on the beach. I have also spearheaded and organized fundraising for different charities associated with the church and for different organized events.

Carine De Mesmaeker
Carine has held parties in Brussels, Belgium since the earlies 80’s. She worked as a deejay in most of the Brussels clubs and had her own club from ’99 to 2004 (Gate). Since 2010 she organizes the highly attended ‘Velvet Sixty Nine’ parties in the center of Brussels.
For De Mesmaeker it made sense, given her experience in the party & club scene to want to improve the quality and provide safe spaces for queer women.

She most recently directed WHAT REMAINS: THE BURNING DOWN OF BLACK WALL STREET (2021) about the 1921 Tulsa race massacre. Her third feature length documentary, the award-winning BREAKFAST AT INA’S, premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival before being acquired by American Public Television. It has screened at 50+ film festivals and educational screenings nationwide, garnering a number of high honors, including audience awards and Best Documentary Feature.

KOTULSKI, PH.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist, sought after speaker, and award-winning, best-selling author with a thriving private therapy practice in Los Angeles, California and an international life coaching practice. Meet Ian Jenkins...
He’s a doctor, living in San Diego, a specialist in hospital medicine and a professor at a major university. He’s been with his partner, Alan, for seventeen years. And they’ve been with their partner, Jeremy, for eight. And they have two biological children – Piper, who is three, and Parker, who is 14 months. Piper and Parker are half siblings who each needed two women to give them life.
What’s that, you say? No, you heard me correctly. Ian, Alan, and Jeremy are a same-sex throuple. Piper and Parker were conceived with eggs donated by a longtime friend and carried by surrogates. Thereby lies a tale of patience, love, and persistence that broke new legal ground and changed the way California law defines family: Piper was the first child ever to have a poly family listed on a birth certificate, paving the way for her younger brother two years later, and the future children of other polyamorous parents. The story of how three poly dads, three amazing and giving women, and an intrepid and compassionate team of medical and legal experts built this uniquely wonderful American family, is at the center of Dr. Jenkins’ upcoming book, Three Dads and a Baby, which will be released in early 2021 by Cleis Press (an imprint of Start Publishing) and distributed by Simon & Schuster.
While Ian admits that of course his family is unique, he questions the perspective of people who think that it isn’t “normal.” “I’m pretty sure it’s lifelong monogamy that’s weird,” he says. “Our culture is filled with all of these stories about longing and infidelity. It’s natural for us to feel affections for more than one person. What’s exotic is that we actually did it – we made a life many people think of as an unattainable dream, but we’re ordinary people otherwise. We have the same conversations about what to have for dinner, what to watch on TV.” “After all,” Jenkins points out, “many parents long for another partner—more love, more help with the kids – we just went out and made it happen!"
Navigating the endlessly complex and often heartbreaking process of creating life through a series of expensive medical procedures, Three Dads and a Baby shares a whirlwind of a surrogacy journey. The throuple had to weigh decisions about embryo adoption or creation, search for women willing to have their eggs extracted or host a pregnancy for three men, and negotiate, fight, and ultimately change a medical and legal system that privileges heterosexual couples. Though it might seem like an ill-conceived narrative cooked up in an Hollywood executive’s office (“It’s ‘Tiger King’ meets ‘Baby Mama’!”), this is a real-life story, and Jenkins relates these trials and tribulations with even-keeled humor and a humble self-awareness that the more sensational aspects of the story pale in comparison to the universal themes of love, parenting, and bonding that almost anyone can identify with.
Writing the memoir also allowed him to flex a creative muscle he’s developed over many years. “Maybe it’s because I had a stepmother who was a librarian,” Ian says, “but I’ve always been drawn to literature and stories.” A fiction writer since the fifth grade, Jenkins has always found a way to channel his passion for writing with his “day job” as a medical professional. In addition to research papers, he’s published several medical narratives about life and death in the hospital and his experiences as an LGBTQ doctor.
After completing Three Dads and a Baby, he’s turned his focus to two other projects: book length medical memoirs and inclusive fantasy novels. “Jeremy has always been a fan of fantasy fiction,” says Jenkins of his younger partner. “He challenged me a few years ago to write something in that genre.” Jenkins’ latest fiction project, geared toward young adult readers, is a high-fantasy adventure that pits strong female, multi-racial, and LGBT characters against a disapproving dominant culture. Meanwhile, he’s working on a medical narrative focused on the very real issues of illness, death, and survival in the world of hospital medicine.
Still, Ian’s unique family life is anything but fantasy. In fact, he admits he has been somewhat relieved by the normalcy of their life in the time since his book was completed. The conception and birth of their second child, Parker, was, comparatively, “a breeze.” Everything that was so challenging and unique in bringing Piper into the world – getting that third name on the birth certificate, winning over skeptical lawyers and reproductive specialists, creating a parenting agreement – was all effectively in place when her younger brother came along. “It’s not normal, compared to what other people go through,” he observes. “But it still feels completely natural.”
Of course, in the era of the pandemic, nothing feels quite normal. His partner Alan shifted to practicing psychiatry from home, while Jeremy (essential personnel for a zoo hospital) and Ian (working on the front lines of the pandemic fight) continued working in person. They’ve had to make drastic changes, like not relying on a beloved nanny who had to socially distance for several weeks as a precaution, while ensuring their kids are still engaging socially. They’re discovering the same thing so many parents have learned: “Being with two lovely kids all day can tire you out just as much as a late shift,” says the good doctor, who’s particularly grateful to Alan for shouldering much of the parenting load so far. The pandemic has also meant increased stress on Ian at work, where he often cares for sick and dying COVID victims, covered in PPE.
Because of his lifelong commitment to issues regarding equality and access, Jenkins is passionate about raising his kids in a feminist, anti-racist and affirmative mindset. “I want my daughter to know that she’s as tough as anyone and can do anything she sets her mind to,” he says, knowing that she will benefit and gain strength with the love and support of three dads (and two maternal figures).
What’s so unusual about that?
Changing The Stars, a Memoir by Cody Renegar...
In his personal memoir, Cody shares many of his broken and shattered moments that led to his beautiful scars. It’s a story of how he helped break the cycle of abuse in his family tree. He refused to be a victim of his past and he overcame years of abuse and now lives a life of positivity. The years of violence he endured growing up he chose to look at and receive as beautiful gifts. He takes you back to when as a small child he was dragged around with his sisters and brothers by an alcoholic, abusive mother. They lived anywhere from old warehouses, to abandoned cabins on the sides of nameless country roads, to a cardboard slat under a bridge overpass, to a haunted run down house, to a honkytonk bar.
His mother’s friend’s forced him to smoke a joint at 4 years old. He and his sisters were sexually abused by the mom’s friends as well. He and his siblings were finally taken away from their mom for due to: Physical, sexual, emotional abuse, malnutrition, neglect and more. Cody and his siblings finally escaped the hell of his mom’s upbringing only to be put in a brutal Foster home in Arkansas where they were again physically and sexually abused. When Cody went to school with the whole left side of his face bruised, an obvious handprint on there and his eye swollen shut, that was the final proof of the abuse. It would have been recognized earlier if not for the huge failure of the system.
When they were finally taken out of that home they had experienced every single abuse on Kadishuns list of abuse and three more abuses based on their experiences were added to the law. The only temporary relief Cody and his siblings ever got was at the Rainbow House with the Gateleys one of the few decent people they came into contact with in a sea of evil ones.
Their goal was to stay together but eventually they were split up. Cody was adopted by a prestigious family with the most dreamy and beautiful places he’d ever seen! The gleam of this shiny new home faded quickly and the dream became a nightmare. Cody’s adopted father had learned disciplinary, violent corporal punishment ways from his lieutenant colonel father and he did not break the cycle of abuse. Cody’s adopted dad tied Cody’s hands over the saddle, pulled Cody’s shirt over his head and his pants to his ankles, and he whipped Cody relentlessly, He didn’t stop until Cody lay on the ground, blinded, naked and screaming, after being falsely accused of something truly horrible. At school that week was the Scoliosis test and when he lifted his shirt, half of it was stuck to his back from his still open wounds.
Cody survived all this as a child and became a caring, successful hairstylist and artist, who became a crusader who fought for marriage rights in Arkansas as he raised a son as a single gay dad. The stories in the book show how Cody and his sister Sue are proof that one can overcome horrible situations in the past and live good productive lives.
Fred Schoemehl... Now retired in northern California, he is a former Orange County newspaper reporter and editor, university instructor, and editor of a western history publication. In 1967, his family relocated to Laguna Beach where he graduated from Laguna Beach High School in 1970. Starting his newspaper career at the Laguna New-Post, he soon was recruited by the Orange Coast Daily Pilot, a much larger publication that published a Laguna Beach edition throughout the 1970s and 1980s. After leaving the Pilot, he drifted through a decade of personal turmoil before re-entering UC Irvine, where received a undergraduate degree and a Ph D in U. S. history. In summer 2019, he began researching “Lost Souls,” a book on the lives of three gay men who were brutally murdered in coastal Orange County in the late 1970s. Two of these horrific deaths occurred in Laguna Beach, the third in Corona del Mar.

About the book Lost Souls...
Indeed, Fred is on a mission to document with his book "Lost Souls" the lives of three gay men — two in Laguna Beach — in the late 1970s. As you might have read recently, one of these cases, the 1978 killing of Brent Tobey, was resolved only two weeks ago when Walter Dalie, a former south county man with an extensive criminal background, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter. Thus ended the legal aspect of a 42-year-old cold case that had been winding its way in and out of the Orange County legal system for nearly a decade. My interest, however, is not in telling the Dalie story. I want to tell Brent Tobey’s story, and the stories of the two other homicide victims — Alfred Willard, killed at his Laguna Beach home in 1977, and Rueben Martinez, murdered at his Corona del Mar home in 1978 by two young men whom he’d met near the Little Shrimp. Regrettably, the news coverage of the day essentially ignored these victims’ lives and family backgrounds. All that most readers learned was that Brent Tobey as a building designer, that Al Willard was a retired U. S. Coast Guard officer, and that Rueben Martinez sold real estate. Put another way, the coverage was skewed toward the police investigations, arrests in the Willard and Martinez cases, and lurid testimony in the trials that ensued. I know some of this first-hand since I was one of the reporters who covered portions of the trials of the two men ultimately convicted of murdering Rueben Martinez. I want to discover the lives of the three murdered men, the "Lost Souls", and share the real and true stories surrounding their lives and murders.

Meet Beth Syverson... Beth Syverson has been the Music Director at Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church for almost 20 years. She also plays piano professionally and teaches music with a focus on students with intellectual disabilities. Her marriage to Jan Mabie was part of a rally on the day of that SCOTUS overturned DOMA - June 26, 2013. Since then, Jan and Beth have continued fighting for LGBTQ+ equality issues. Jan and Beth live in Norwalk and they have a teenage son, 2 big dogs, and 4 horses.
Meet Dawn Price... Dawn is presently the Executive Director for the Friendship Shelter of Laguna Beach. She started her work with them in 2008 and during her time there she has had a part in their astounding growth from serving 50 people at a time to more than 200. They have grown to have two shelters placing more than 100 persons in permeant housing and providing another 120 persons with support during COVID-19 as part of a special county program.
Meet Ginny Venton... Ginny began transitioning in 2019 at the age of 70. She is a musician, writer, and sometimes school crossing guard. She has 2 children, 3 step children, and 3 grandchildren. She spent many years hosting a popular radio show in Omaha, Nebraska.
Drïan Juarez is a global consultant on diversity and inclusion and is the Vice President of Programing for Trans Can Work. She works to build inclusive company cultures where gender diverse people can thrive. She has served as the Global Partnerships Manager for Grindr’s Grinder for Equality program where she promoted health, justice, and equality for the global LGBTQI community. She is the founder and former Program Manager of the LA LGBT Center’s Transgender Economic Empowerment Project (TEEP). Building a solid foundation for TEEP, Juarez established cross-organizational/ cross-functional teams to assist in the mission of developing substantive employment and business opportunities for the Los Angeles Transgender community. Under her direction, TEEP worked with thousands of Transgender and gender nonconforming people by assisting with basic housing and helping Transgender and gender nonconforming people move from the street economy to assisting with more complex job skills like resume writing and job searches for Transgender people who transitioned after establishing professional careers. In her role, Juarez developed a coalition of grass-roots organizations to help meet the specific needs of the LGBTQI+ community. She has collaborated with homeless shelters to provide housing and basic living needs, coordinated with non-profits and schools to offer basic job training and has taught over 700 employers in law enforcement, government entities and businesses on the unique issues faced by gender diverse communities.
Meet Joe and Victor... The modern family father duo just celebrated their 4 year wedding anniversary this past December with their 5 year old daughter, Miranda and 3 year old twin sons, Noah and Nathaniel.
Victor opened up with Amare Magazine to share, "I am humbled to tell you a little bit of my story, and why I am interested in sharing it with the world. I never thought I would be a father. I was almost 40 years old, working a stressful career, and had no partner to share the parental duties with. With the recent news of a young man at the age of 9 who committed suicide after being bullied and told “you should kill yourself” it seems appropriate to bring people together to discuss this tragedy and how and what we can do to help those that are suffering, showing compassion, understanding and love, to bring them a better life.
