Event: Flowers Are Speakers — organised by Gathering Dan Bon Air

Date: 05 April 2025

Location: In the Woods, Mare Longues, Mauritius

Set Time: 06h – 08h (Taking over from SMILK)

For the 10-year celebration of Gathering Dan Bon Air (GDBA), the forest of Mare Longues became the stage for a night of connection, sound, and freedom.

After BRAINLOVE opened the way for SMILK, AVNEESH took over as the night moved toward daylight. His set carried the gathering forward with a high-energy journey through bass, techno, breaks, Kréol textures, and percussive mutations — holding the pulse of the dancefloor while gradually opening into the brighter, playful energy of Sunday morning.

Recorded live in the woods of Mauritius, the mix reflects the spirit of Flowers Are Speakers: a space where genres dissolve, sound responds to its surroundings, and music becomes a shared passage between darkness and light. 🌌✨

Recorded in Port Louis, Mauritius, this warmup from BRAINLOVE captures the opening pulse of a night dedicated to bridging islands, rhythm, and culture.

As one of the foundational artists of ë and a longtime curator within the BABANI ecosystem, BRAINLOVE opened the evening with an organic, hypnotic journey — weaving downtempo grooves, maloya textures, tribal basslines, and meditative layers into a fluid, immersive flow.

BRAINLOVE’s set laid the groundwork for BABANI SOUNDSYSTEM and PANGAR, setting the tone for a powerful encounter between Mauritian rhythm and Réunion’s maloya spirit.

The event stood as a cultural dialogue across the Indian Ocean — rooted in heritage, movement, and community.

EVENT: FLOWERS ARE SPEAKERS — ORGANISED BY GATHERING DAN BON AIR

DATE: 05 APRIL 2025

LOCATION: IN THE WOODS, MARE LONGUES

SET TIME: 02H30 – 04H (WARMUP FOR SMILK)

Recorded live in the forest of Mare Longues, this set by BRAINLOVE — part of ë since the very beginning — was a welcoming journey for SMILK at the 10-year celebration of Gathering Dan Bon Air (GDBA).

A night voyage where music became more than sound — from soulful grooves into pulsating basslines, echoing the heartbeat of the earth and carrying us toward the first rays of light. Rooted in Mauritian rhythms and expanded through psychedelic textures, this set is music without borders — a gathering of souls in sound. 🌿🌌✨

🌿 ABOUT GDBA

For the past decade, Gathering Dan Bon Air has been more than an event. Born in Mauritius, it has become a living gathering — sometimes hidden in the forest, sometimes perched on a cliff, always shaped by nature and the community.

There are no genre limits. Each edition takes form from its surroundings and from the energy of the people who come together. What matters is the vibe, the freedom, and the connection shared in that moment.

Ten years on, GDBA continues to grow as a reminder that it’s not about style, but about the gathering itself — a celebration of life through music.

As the live music scene tapers to a stalemate, Scottish-born DJ and producer KUSHT released Master, his second album available on the Frente Bolivarista label, and yet another highly textured release on his extensive list of productions. The album takes inspiration from his 2019’s hypnotizing album ‘Together’, as an aurally contrasting counterpart.

With a name taken from the Scottish word of ‘describing a great moment’ and breathing and from various parts of the world, Kusht is often on the move to fuel his creativity, expressed in terms of fusing psychedelic-folkloric and electronic music.

For his electrocaïne session, recorded in a small town in the Pyrenees whilst waiting for vehicle repairs, in which he was travelling across Europe, being inventive was key. With a makeshift mixer put together using his live gears, we were delivered a surreal one-hour of great moments and epic feels conjured by Kusht. Give it a listen and you may just forget about the tough times we’re in for a bit.

Introducing our collaboration with MAMA JAZ, the Nepetalakton series, an ode to jazz and its influence on other sounds. Artists and friends around the world have been excited to bring their own touch to this series which we are launching on this year’s International Jazz Day with a pillar of the Montreal music scene. Active for over 15 years, versatile DJ, influential tastemaker and respected record digger, Lexis. In 2007, he founded Music Is My Sanctuary, one of most respected independent music websites in the world, in 2007. In the light of the God Goes Deep event, techno maestro Rivet comes up with a special set that ventures beyond his conventional on an evocative 90 min ambient set, for our anniversary podcast, recorded in the mighty acoustics of the Cathedral of Copenhagen.

Releasing his first productions in 2001, under monikers such as techno-throbbing Grovskopa, industrial Kovsh and several others until using the current Rivet name. Mika Hallbäck’s efforts range from running labels to own productions found on various labels such as Surface, Warp Records, Emergence and more.

Deeper into Rivet’s contribution to a particularly sonic universe and culture, he launched the proto techno/post-punk label Kess Kill with recent releases from Grand Mal X and the hypnotic analog-driven Geneviéve Pasquier, with an upcoming dose of punk with good measures of electronics from Vitor Hublot.

Just at the same time as his new single “Maneter” is released on beatport, Djuma Soundsystem, a.k.a. Norwegian dj Mikkas, blessed us with a fresh live dj mix. “Maneter” is made in collaboration with another Norwegian; diskJokke, and will be out on Sander Kleinenbergs “This is” label this week on beatport, and on all the other platforms the 18th of July. It’s already getting major support from big room jocks like Sasha, Nick Warren, Wally Lopez, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, Nic Fanciulli, Anthony Pappa, David Guetta, Dave Spoon, Pathaan, Pleasurekraft, Pathaan, Mark Knight and Aeroplane to name a few.Strangely enough, as it’s a rather low key nu discoish track, with latin/tango piano. “Maneter” is track three in the mix.

Leading the return is a deep, dark and cosy mix by dj/graphic designer/singer/funny & friendly man currently based in Berlin, John Osborn. With an immense passion for music and design, John Osborn’s (who was also the front man of the post punk electro brand, Neon Man) approach to djing is the same as his approach to design and writing lyrics. To quote him, “just keep on trying and enjoy the ride, as the ride is often much better than arriving..”. Word John. This immaculate mix was recorded live through the old yet trusty Rane 2016 mixer, at his residency night, JACKSON at Cookies Club (berlin), while he was warming up for a very good friend Julian Smith aka October. You can’t get any personal than this. Please enjoy.

In this new dollop of bliss, is a smorgasboard of mellow house, chopped up r&b samples, clunky grooving beat, subtle synth melodies, enigmatic vocals, crisp jazzfunk breakbeats and pulsing keys.
