Thomas Devery, the pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish in Staten Island on the finale of this second season of On the Block. Fr. Devery was ordained in 1977 and has been serving the Archdiocese of New York faith community since.
On this episode of On the Block, Ed Wilkinson, Editor of the Tablet newspaper, talks with Father Agustino Torres who is from the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and a favorite correspondent for NET TV during various events.
Father Jeffrey Dillon, a former police officer who turned in his badge so he could serve in the precinct of the lord, is the administrator at Christ of King and St. Mary Madeline Parish. He has received degrees in social work, counseling, senior health, and mental health. He has also helped out at St. Clement Pope Parish in Ozone Park.
We spoke with Father Gelfant on the steps of St. Finbar’s Church, Bath Beach, where he is pastor. Father Gelfant is one of the youngest pastors in the Diocese and recently completed a complete renovation of the parish church, with all work dome by the parishioner themselves. Father Gelfant told us about his conversion to Catholicism and how he came to think about becoming a priest. He also spoke about the struggles of seminary life as well as the joys of being a priest.
