In this episode, we talk about pelvic floor ultrasound with Professor Ka Lai Shek and Professor Hans Peter Dietz. Ultrasound offers us a way of visualising clinically hidden aspects of structures involved in incontinence and/or pelvic organ prolapse. It can help us in diagnosing pelvic floor defects caused by childbirth and is a possible tool for future prevention strategies.
In this episode we discuss current treatment and prevention strategies of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries. It is often unrecognized that trauma in the delivery suite to the pelvic floor, and in this case the anal sphincter complex, can have a lifelong impact on a women’s quality of life. By developing strategies to protect the pelvic floor during delivery of the infant, we may prevent future development of pelvic floor dysfunction. We interview two experts in the field of OASIS; Ranee Thakar and Katariina Laine.
