The gathering place of Ascent Institute to share information along with insight and knowledge so that our youth can develop and scale their personal mountains.
Today's episode deals with the need for goals. Like always, we need to sequence out the details so that criteria are clearly outlined and nothing is left for translation.
Daniel outlines:
-The differences between pastimes and hobbies.
-How time and space are related to goals.
-How executive function relates to the process of goal making.
-The significance of identity over action.

Welcome to The Ascent Collective, the show that helps youth navigate through life, effectively, all while enjoying the ride. Today we talk about navigating the relationship you have with your coach, specifically in terms of practice and effort. We highlight a conversation that Daniel had recently with one of his students.
We discuss expectations, prioritizing practices, the complex puzzle of beating teammates that have won opponents, and a couple of nuances why effort is greater than talent in the long run.
Today, we discuss the steps to responding to open-ended questions. I find
that these types of questions are the toughest for students to answer. The
ability to answer questions without given contexts or clues from the
questions requires practice and awareness.
We talk about how to practice more proficiently so that you can get more out of your time. There are always new ways to practice and new studies coming out about how to practice, so here are some other methods you might want to try.
We talk about what truth is and whether or not the truth should be objective and universal. What does it mean to have a personal truth and is it actually philosophically correct to say that personal truths exist?
How can we lengthen out our responses to the questions that are being asked?
*There is a brief mention of suicide when we briefly talk about the stoics.

Join us as we discuss logic, epistemology and metaphysics and ethics. This is part 1. Part 2 will coming at a later time.
This question will always be asked by students. The question shouldn't be "what can I be?" It should be "what problem should/ can I solve?"
1. Use education as a vehicle to gain knowledge to solve a problem. Don't chase careers!
2. Time is on your side.
3. Nurture an entrepreneurial mindset.
4. Get good

Tests provide metrics but only if used correctly and if the test scores are available immediately. Today we talked about some tests that fourth 8th and 12th graders took and the results that followed. Spoiler alert: The students scored lower than before. BUT, I don't think it's entirely the students' fault. I think during this time tests and assessments will be overhauled and looked at again in terms of Effectiveness and efficiency, not markers.

Education from the home takes precedence over all types of education, including academics. Home education is the foundation to all other types of education.
How to treat talent and how to grow it. We discuss how to determine which phase the talent in, using the analogy of children and their growth.
It is important to know when to focus on the details of a subject matter and when to work for the bigger picture. Winners win in the details.
