5FM
YB5 is an integral part of 5FM’s structure and has been part of the station for more than ten years. YB5 gives 5FM and its’ audience a heart using the biggest national youth platform in South Africa. The concept has grown and developed over several years and in 2015, YB5 will amplify the traditional charity angle that 5FM has promoted. YB5 will take the platform and expand it into a three tiered approach that creates three very specific areas of focus. These will be; charitable causes, education and employment.
Conrad is South Africa’s top comedy ventriloquist, and possibly the only one, and is a double International Emmy nominated comedian. His most famous puppet, Chester Missing, has won numerous awards in his own right, including being the first recipient of the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation’s Anti-Racism Award. Chester Missing has interviewed most of South Africa’s political elite and has held a number of regular radio and TV slots, and even wrote an award-winning book. Conrad’s live shows have received wide political acclaim, and are a regular feature at arts and comedy festivals, including at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. The truth is, with a master’s degree in social anthropology, talking to puppets was his only career option.

During her senior high school year, she joined the crossover band Mango Groove and has been a symbol of the Rainbow Nation ever since.

This week on 5Talks we chat to Desiree-Anne Martin. She is a Cape Town based author, whose debut memoir "We Don’t Talk About IT. Ever” was recently published. She is an addictions counsellor and a recovering addict. In her book she tells of her incredible story of how she went from addict to author. The book describes with brutal honesty her story of addiction, depression and ultimately recovery. She began using heroin at the age of 24 after a boyfriend gave her the drug as a 'birthday present’. She is currently studying a post-grad diploma in Addiction Care at UCT, and helps others through sharing her story and counselling.
