Dr. Bonomi is a technology expert and visionary with experience that spans from low-level devices and silicon to the broad level of networking and computing systems. He spent 14 years at Cisco Systems, leading advanced R&D, and was named a Cisco Fellow. He also literally coined the term ‘Fog Computing’. Prior to Cisco, Flavio worked at several Bay Area startups and was at AT&T Bell Labs, where he was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University as well as a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy. A consummate learner, he has published 100+ papers in technical journals and conference proceedings and is a co-inventor in 60+ USA and International Patents.

Dr. Puente was most recently, the co-founder at Fractus and Fractus Antennas where he was co-inventor of Virtual Antenna, the technology that enables IoT and Mobile devices to embed a tiny chip antenna component to deliver full mobile connectivity. Carles was nominated to the European Inventor Award (2014), named Technology Pioneers by the World Economic Forum (2005) and awarded the IST Grand Prize by the European Commission (1998). He is an inventor in 145 patents, has co-authored 150 scientific papers, and is a professor at BarcelonaTech (UPC), where he earned his PhD. He has taught graduate courses on technology and patent management at Penn-Wharton, ESADE Business School and CEIPI.

Sander Klous is Professor of Big Data Ecosystems at the University of Amsterdam and Partner in charge of Big Data and Analytics for KPMG in the Netherlands. The evolution of IoT has seen a lot of focus on bespoke solutions, and our conversation explores the distinctions between the types of use cases that are replicable, and those that fall along the “Long Tail”. One of the key observations is that early IoT projects often misaligned the type of data collected from machines, for instance lacking the granularity necessary to derive business value from data analytics. He discusses the value of being close to the customer, which is too often overlooked by vendors, as key to driving value from IoT initiatives, as well as his view that we are seeing an inflection in the market as more traditional companies are realizing the value of connected industry projects. While Dan’s an enthusiastic advocate for emerging technologies, he shares a pragmatic bias that’s key to success for more conservative industries in their digitization journey.
Rob Tiffany is a technologist, CTO, board member, blogger, entrepreneur and thought leader in the IoT market. Our conversation covered his origins in the 1990s building connected systems for vending machine business using technologies considered primitive by today’s standards. We follow the progression of the industry through the evolution of powerful enabling technologies while fundamental principles forged during his early experience inform the success of his work at larger companies including Microsoft and Hitachi. Tony Seba, RethinkX I Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation
Tony Seba’s work on the impact of disruptive technologies has been highly influential to major decision makers in the investment community, in industry and governments worldwide. Our conversation explored the principles behind his framework for analyzing disruptive technologies, then we dove into the thesis behind his 2014 book Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation. Tony discusses how the cost curves for solar, batteries, electric vehicles and autonomous cars have followed his predictions to the letter (batteries are even cheaper than he forecast). He shares the bold prediction that 2021 will be the year the Level 4 self-driving cars hit the mainstream and give rise to an ecosystem of Transportation as a Service businesses that provide transportation at 10X cheaper than today.
