Welcome to our podcast. This week we look back on how the pandemic has effected so many people in the past year. We discussed the long term affects, studies that have been done, and ways to continue to reduce some of the negative effects of this.
What can we do right now to help reduce the negative effects:
Engage in relaxing activities.
Exercise and stretching, reading, listening to music, meditation and prayer, journaling, and hobbies can help relieve stress that can be associated with isolation.
Follow a routine. Daily routines promote a sense of purpose and normalcy. Maintain healthy habits. Eating well, getting enough sleep, and engaging in physical activity can promote better mental health.
Stay connected. If conditions limit in-person contact, phone calls, email, texting, social media platforms, and videoconferencing can be used to stay in touch. Stay informed. Keeping in the loop can be particularly important for those isolated due to a dangerous threat, such as a disease outbreak. Learning the facts about their risk can help people avoid feeling panicky. That said, controlling media consumption is also helpful –– too much exposure to negative news can feed anxiety.

Hello, welcome to Living As Latinas💜
This week we will be discussing the power of perspectives. The ability to reframe a situation is an important skill that can transform your life and our world. Join us in discussing how we can clear our lenses so we can view life from a higher perspective.
We can argue that how we see our lives is how we live our lives. Our perspective is arguably the single greatest aspect of our uniqueness. It is also the foundation for one of the most powerful tools through which we can relate to and build relationships with others: perspective taking.
We each have an uniquely valuable perspective on life—a lens through which we interpret our lives. Through our perspective, we define what makes sense to us, which is differentiated from how others see and experience life.
What type of lenses are you looking through? Do you generally see problems or possibilities?
Your viewpoint shapes your thoughts, decisions, actions -- and ultimately, your feeling of success. For example, have you ever wondered why people in some of the poorest parts of the world seem happier than those in the wealthiest nations? It's probably because they view life through the values-lenses of health and family versus wealth and fame.
If you are experiencing a challenging time right now, think about how you can shift your perspective. If you've lost your job, maybe it's an opportunity to go back to school or turn your hobby into a business. If you must reduce your spending, maybe it's an opportunity to streamline your entire life and spend more time around the dinner table with your family. If you have received a diagnosis, perhaps it's a reminder of the importance of healthy living.
Taking an optimistic viewpoint of the chaos in our external world, maybe it's time for all of us to go inside ourselves and reevaluate our core values. It may even usher us into a new spiritual paradigm where the currency is how many people we can inspire versus how many things we can acquire.
The ability to reframe a situation is an important skill that can transform your life and our world. Today, take time to clear your lenses so you can view life from a higher perspective.
Action steps: Here are some action step suggestions that you can start taking 👉Be a neutral observer. When a situation occurs, don't immediately judge it. Take a deep breath and take yourself out of it. Try to see it from multiple angles. 👉Take an optimist viewpoint. Look for the opportunity in a seemingly "bad" situation. Deliberately test out a new perspective. Next time you are in a traffic jam, don't fret about "wasted" time. Use it as a chance to meditate or do some isometric exercises. 👉Be grateful for what you have. Next time you think you have it bad, think about those who have it worse. Remember the Denis Waitely quote: "I had the blues because I had no shoes until upon the street, I met a man who had no feet." 👉Offer your services to someone who could benefit from your talents. This may change their perspective as well as your own. 👉Keep a "belief journal." Write down your core values and beliefs. Determine which ones serve you and which ones don't. Constantly review it and make adjustments.

This week we will be discussing what it means to die. Why are people so afraid of death or dying. How can we change our viewpoints so we don’t live our life missing out on things. If you have felt this way or know someone that does sit back and listen as we discuss Death and dying.
Death is perceived as “going to a better place” “No longer suffering” Many Latino families have a huge religious background where a lot are Christians or Catholics.
Before dying a priest or pastor comes and reads them their last rites and their spirit moves on to a better place. Even though it is viewed this way a huge majority of people live in fear of death which is something is inevitable for us all.
Some key concepts we discuss are: How should we be taught to accept death or how can we do better about this? Treat life as a cycle we all are here for a purpose Death is a natural process of life Death happens to anyone and anything We move on to a better place Appreciate each day because no day is guaranteed Wake up each day grateful to have breath and that we are living

Hi welcome to Living as Latinas, I am Yakira and I have my co-host Aury. This week will be discussing every LGBTQ within the Latino culture. I am so excited to have two fellow Latinx podcasters from Lawrence, MA Nina and Rue from SofritoSpeaks joining us!
Some questions answered are:
1)When was the first time you heard a term gay or lesbian and what was your reaction to it?
2)How have our family members and others influenced our viewpoint of the LGBTQ community?
3)Why is there so much controversy with being a part of the LGBTQ community?
4)What are some ways that perhaps things could change in this area? How can Latinos do better with educating each other?
5)If you know someone that is questioning or has come out and what are the best ways to support them?
6)What advice or words of encouragement would you give to anyone in general who are afraid to be who they really are?

Welcome to Living as Latinas. This week Aury and I interviewed Natalie Garcia. Natalie is a working mother of 3, life coach, nurse and military mom. She balances many roles in her life and she got it! She has been inspiring women in her Bestyear ever project that helps moms like her empower themselves, figure out a better routine that works for their family, and put health and wellness first. I have been following her for a few years and she is so inspiring. I really admire the work that she does and the women’s lives that she has been able to reach.
