As Vice President and CTO, Solutions, for Salesforce ASEAN, Gavin Barfield leads a team of Salesforce engineers across the region to develop and drive integrated technology solutions for Salesforce customers.

He also works closely with customers in ASEAN on their digital transformations, bringing together the full value of the Salesforce platform to drive positive business outcomes.

We discussed the skills gap in AI adoption and the importance of providing training and support for employees to embrace and learn from AI.

Gavin shared examples of how generative AI can be used in customer service and inventory management. He emphasised the need for understanding the limitations of AI and having a human in the loop for the ethical use of the technology.

LinkedIn is often seen as a positive and professional social media platform, but is it really?

In this episode, I explore how LinkedIn's toxic positivity and hustle culture can create unrealistic work expectations and harm our mental health.

I discuss how LinkedIn users tend to exaggerate their achievements, hide their struggles, and compare themselves to others who seem to have it all.

I also examine how LinkedIn can encourage unhealthy behaviours such as overworking, neglecting wellness, and chasing status.

Finally, I share some tips on how to use LinkedIn more mindfully and authentically, without falling prey to its pitfalls.

Going to work when you’re sick is like juggling knives while riding a unicycle. It’s a bad idea for you and everyone around you.

In this experimental short monologue series, I will distill my thoughts on this topic and make a case on what employees should truly be looking out for.

Keith Tan is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Crown Digital, a Robotics and Coffee start-up solving key challenges in the F&B industry.

Previously from the wealth management industry, Keith was inspired to build a business of his own, and left his job at the age of 35 to embark on his entrepreneurial journey with coffee. Crown Coffee’s first outlet was opened in 2016. Keith was passionate about coffee, the craft and his customers, but soon realised that it was hard to scale up the business due to a shortage of skilled labour, high rental costs and a challenge in maintaining consistent quality. This led Keith to think out of the box, seeking ways to infuse science and technology into the art of coffee making.

The inspiration for a robotic barista came about after Keith tested a robot arm picking up and serving croissants to guests at a corporate innovation center. This sparked an eureka moment that led him to create his very own robotic barista, after learning robotics from scratch. Eventually hiring his own team of software developers, Keith took all of his operations in-house and Crown Digital was born in 2018, with the purpose of delivering autonomous, unmanned retail solutions that tackle manpower challenges and optimise F&B operations.

If you are wondering about why the name ELLA, it came about when he came across Rihanna's hit song ‘Umbrella’ came over the speakers and the stars aligned – he knew instantly that Ella was the perfect name for his robot barista!

Raphael Ng is an ex-ballerino who had spent decades dancing before making the life-changing decision to venture into the world of hedge funds. The dancer has come a long way to become a fund manager at Salzworth Asset Management.

Born to professional dancers, Raphael started taking ballet lessons at the young age of four and eventually extended to various forms of dancing like Chinese Dance and Contemporary Dance till he was 27. Raphael then achieved Distinctions in his Royal Academy of Dance ballet examinations. He clinched top places in world competitions like the International Dance Competition in Bolzano, Italy, and the Barcelona Dance Grand Prix during his time in a contemporary dance group back in university.

Upon spending a few years in top banking and fintech firms such as Credit Suisse and Stashaway, he observed a gap in the market for a currency-focused fund that can serve as a bedrock in one’s portfolio. Believing that investors should be aware of how FX can serve as a consistent and reliable source of returns, he eventually joined Salzworth. He co-founded the Global Currency Fund with like-minded individuals Ashli Koe and Yap Zhi Xin in 2019.

The fund has since achieved strong performance and has come out top in January and February 2022 globally, as well as the Top 10 currency fund in 2021, according to BarclayHedge, a hedge fund database. The fund has also received the Singapore Young Entrepreneurs Award 2021 (SYEA) in the Innovative Industrialisation category.

Despite taking a backseat in performing, Raphael found a different way to contribute to the dance scene. His passion for dance still eventually led him to found Supertone. This company offers chic and comfortable dancewear and Jete Studios, a ballet school for children, to nurture the next generation of ballet dancers.

Not to mention the coworker who starts a new thread about the same thing. Someone would call a meeting to fix the mess and start a new version. Email is great for one-on-one communication but terrible for project management.

Basecamp helps makes it easier to manage projects everyone can do: You start a project, post a description on the message board, and let everyone else catch up.

Your bucket can never be filled with water if there is a leak at the bottom.

In recruitment context, that leak to the ability to close the deal with the job applicant that you may have spent more than 3 months and over 5 rounds of interview to screen and assess.

To address this "last mile problem", CY Chua co-founded TalentX.ai to provide a one-of-a-kind AI-powered job offer management platform to minimize uncertainty in transacting a Tech job for both employer and candidate.

Before TalentX.ai, CY was involved in consulting expertise and doing in-house Total Rewards, People Analytics & HRIS on a global scale.

Many managers remain sceptical about the distributed workforce. I think it stems from traditional management belief that if you are not looking over your employees' shoulders, they would skive. Unfortunately, this belief is prevalent with many people managers treating their office like a factory floor. Addressing this and helping businesses better understand how and what people do at work, my guest today started Flowtrack to help companies get data on where and how employees are spending their time. Having designed and built enterprise products in IBM and NTT Data, Chandra Sivasubramaniam and the team launched FlowTrack to address India and South East Asian market's need to drive organizational effectiveness and employee productivity.

George Avgenakis is the founder and CEO at Loopcv, a job search tool that automates the job search for individual job seekers. Using Loopcv, job applicants can automatically apply to hundreds of jobs every day (no effort required)

He got into this two years ago when he realised the job search process is broken as he was attempting to look for one. There are hundreds of platforms to apply, a lot of copy-pasting between them and it is impossible to be online 24/7, which resulted in losing great opportunities.

He then wondered since companies use automation to streamline their hiring process, why not jobseekers?

Vinay Johar is CEO and Founder at RChilli Inc. He is a serial entrepreneur, and RChilli is his third venture.

As an accomplished entrepreneur, sales leader, and market strategist, he spends most of his time with enterprises, mentors, and thought leaders to understand bottlenecks in the recruitment process and solves them with niche products.

Vinay is passionate about bringing innovative solutions to the HR Tech industry. He wanted to create products or services with minimum liabilities and minimum resources and sell them globally to fortune companies. While researching for his core product, he found that the companies are selling a resume parser as a luxurious product. This was the turning point that motivated Vinay to enter the HR Tech space with resume extraction as a commodity and make it affordable.

With the right niche and technology, RChilli is now the most trusted partner for Parsing, Matching, and Data Enrichment for global recruiting platforms. At present, it is serving 1600+ customers in more than 33 countries across the globe. This episode is brought to you by Meet & Engage - a real-time chat service designed by recruiters for recruiters.

I like this as it does things other chat services cannot do. No downloads, no disclosing private data, it works on all devices and reflects the employers brand.

The best feature though, is moderated group chat - where recruiters have one conversation with many people at the same time, while protecting the employer brand and individuals' privacy.

Just image the time you can save over phone calls and emails.
