NYFIKEN is a podcast about research. We want to make research available to everyone, through podcasts and articles meant for a general audience. We aim to create a complete picture of research done in Sweden, in all fields, by highlighting the diversity and complexity of work done by PhD students. *Sol Agin has a PhD degree from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Karlstad University.
Sol's work was in media studies, dealing with the communication of climate action. She looked at message construction by, and about, social movements, and at the ways in which action and language combine into the message. You can find Sol’s thesis here. Eva la Cour has a PhD from the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg. Her artistic research project explores different imaginaries of the Arctic. She uses artistic practices such as essayistic film experimentation with collaborative live editing and engages with the role of guide to pursue a shift away from the solitary author figure to a more collective vision of knowledge.

Silvia Trevisan has a PhD from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. You can find the episode about Silvia’s research here.
During her PhD she worked on building, characterizing, and optimizing devices for storing heat, or thermal energy. Her project focused on heat generated from renewable sources, and it also had a focus on making the storage device itself from sustainable materials. Research like this aims at paving the path for solutions to problems in today's industry.

Malachi Ochieng Arunda has a PhD from Lund university, from the Department of Clinical Science in the Faculty of Medicine.
During his PhD he researched indirect factors connected to neonatal mortality, in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, looking in particular at how access to care influences neonatal outcomes.

Lina Isacs has a background in Economics and holds a PhD degree in Planning and decision analysis from KTH, the School of Architecture and the Built Environment. During her PhD, she worked on questions about monetary valuation of nature, touching on broader meta-theoretical issues concerning neoclassical economics and ecological economics.
Ferran Planas has a PhD degree from Stockholm University, from the Department of Chemistry. For his PhD he worked in computational chemistry, modelling reactions with the use of Density Functional Theory.
Brian Thorsbro has a PhD degree from Lund University, from the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics. During his PhD, he worked on stellar spectroscopy, studying stars in the Galactic centre.

In his doctoral research, he worked within Environmental Social Studies, using artistic means to find out how people anticipate the future of a mega infrastructure project in Kenya.
Sreekanth Manikandan has a PhD degree from Stockholm University, from the Department of Physics.

Markus Fjellström holds a PhD in Archaeological Science from the department of Archaeology and Classical studies at Stockholm University.
During his PhD his research focused on diet and mobility patterns from the late Iron Age to the late 19th century in Sápmi.
Sápmi defines the land of the Sámi, an area that stretches from southern Norway and Dalarna in Sweden in the south to the Kola Peninsula in the east. It compromises parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. It is an area within which different Sámi and non-Sámi cultures have lived and moved through the ages. The Sámi are the indigenous people of this region.
