Over the past 5 years, the cervical screening test has seen some changes! What used to be known as a “pap smear” now has a fancy new name and some new criteria. If you are anything like me, the word “pap smear” or “cervical screening test” sends a shudder down my spine but that is mainly due to my lack of knowledge about what it entails and what it tells us. Thankfully, the wonderful Dr. Maria Li is here to give us the full run down.Note: When discussing who can perform the cervical screening tests we forgot to mention in some cases nurses may perform them. Do you know what every letter in the LGBTQIA+ acronym means? Today we have Mimi from A Gender Agenda join us to discuss sex, gender, and sexuality. We break down the binary ideologies around sex, gender, and sexuality to better explain where and how the queer community intersects in the traditional landscape of heteronormativity. Mimi also explains the use of pronouns and their importance along with ways we can support and show our allyship to the queer community.I can’t thank Mimi enough for joining me on this episode. As a cis-gendered, heterosexual woman, I found this to be incredibly valuable. I think this episode should be listened to by all, so we can continue to create safe and supportive environments for the LGBTQIA + community because we still have such a long way to go.The company Mimi works for is called A Gender Agenda (AGA), an organisation that actively engages in increasing public awareness and understanding of intersex, trans, and gender diversity issues. In addition to training and education, AGA provides advocacy and support services, information and resources, and work in human rights and law reform.Website: genderrights.org.auInstagram: @a_gender_agendaFacebook: A Gender AgendaThe WoW is an independent podcast that aims to provide you with the tools you need to thrive in today's society hosted by Georgina Beasley (she/her).If you enjoy the episode please subscribe, leave a review, share it with your friends, or come and follow us on Instagram @thewowpodcast_The WoW would like to acknowledge the Ngunnawal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the podcast is recorded and produced.
