Game Boys is a podcast dedicated entirely to co-op gaming. Its regular hosts, Tim and Ryan, have been gaming together for roughly eighteen years, and have dedicated countless hours to finding the best cooperative games of all varieties, whether in person “couch” co-op games, online only, or anything in between.
This is it. Six years and three hundred episodes later, the Game Boys Podcast is officially coming to a close. But not before one last hurrah. The Game Boys Podcast is almost at an end. But, over the course of nearly 300 episodes, the Boys have made one too many references to the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie not to review it for the show. This week, the Game Boys have compiled a list of the Top 10 Gaming Franchises. Each host brought a ranked list of 10 series with no criteria whatsoever. Position on each list weighted the entries when they were compiled making for a unique list boasting a bit of each host's interests. And, as a dumb added bonus, they also created a Top 10 Legend of Zelda Items list. Because why not? Show's ending, nothing matters anymore. Like this description I'm writing. Does anyone read these? This week, the Game Boys are celebrating their fifth anniversary as a podcast! Join Alex, Ryan, and Tim as they guess one another's top fives before creating a top five list for the podcast. It's been an amazing five years! Thank you for listening!
The Rules:
The Rule of Three- If all Game Boys share an item on their personal list, it is automatically on the Game Boys' collective list.
The Rule of Two- If two Game Boys share an item on their personal list, it is automatically on the Game Boys' collective list, but the player who didn't include that item gets to eliminate an item off of another player's list, removing it from potential inclusion in the collective list.
The Rule of Rolls- For all remaining positions on the collective list not filled by the Rule of Three or Two, all three players must roll a D8. A player who rolls a five may automatically insert an item from their personal list. For all other rolls, the player with the roll closest to five gets to insert an item from their personal list, with four and six being the next highest rolls. An exact tie will be settled in a re-roll, whereas if two players roll different numbers of equal distance to five, advantage will be given to the player with the traditionally higher number. However, this is a "Costly Victory," and the player who lost the tie gets to choose the game off of the victor's personal list.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was not overselling itself when it claimed "everyone is here." With the first and now the second Fighter Pass, the number of playable characters in Nintendo's beloved fighter just keeps growing. But what if you limited that roster to just eight or nine characters? Would the experience be diminished or maybe just improve? This week, the Game Boys are reviewing SSBU's Fighter Passes by playing exclusively as the DLC characters. The real catch is that none of the Boys have played any of the new fighters. For better or worse, the final character in the Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass has been revealed along with the reveal that there'll be six additional DLC characters. To make Nintendo's job just a little earlier and to prevent any potential disappointment down the road, the Game Boys have taken it upon themselves to pick six incredible new characters that should be featured in the next Fighter Pass. In true Smash fashion, however, having picked four characters each, each Game Boy has to fight for their character selections to be part of the collective six character roster. Ready? Go!

From Zelda to Pokémon to Overwatch more recently, the Game Boys are collectively pretty vocal members of a lot of fandoms. Perhaps no property is more important to the Boys than Star Wars. Welcome to the Game Boys 150th Episode Special, a rare reimagining of the podcast as something distinctly different than a co-op and multiplayer game podcast. In this episode each host leads an abbreviated pilot podcast episode of a show they'd be interested in producing if they weren't to busy doing the Game Boys Podcast! It all begins with Ryan's "Roll for Adventure," an actual-play D&D segment where Ryan acts as Dungeon Master for Alex and Tim in a mini campaign introduction. Then, Tim takes the other two to Transylvania for "Children of the Night," a look at lore, legends, myths, and monsters through the lens of particular pieces of pop culture. This week, things get batty as the trio uncovers the truth about vampires by looking at the 1922 classic Nosferatu and Bram Stoker's classic novel, Dracula. Alex wraps it all up back in the familiar territory of gaming, but as a game guide and advice show where the hosts answer gaming questions from around the internet regardless of if they've played the games or not in "Bro Strats." Last year, one of the Game Boys E3 predictions were spot on...only none of the predicted reveals were actually made at E3. This year, I don't see how any of these predictions could come true as the Game Boys come up with some truly horrendous ideas. Don't take my word for it. A man down, the Game Boys decide to make a u-turn and revisit a game that, having received some much deserved criticism, has corrected course over a matter of months. That game is Dice's Star Wars: Battlefront II, oft criticized for its over reliance on loot boxes and its mess of in game progression systems. Now that Dice has rethought its incomprehensibly stupid design decisions and reworked many in game systems all while supplying new content, what better time to see if this battle front looks any better than upon release.
