Ladies and gentlemen and whoever else is listening, once again, welcome back to the program.

I have two special guests today. They are Elizabeth Allen and Ellie Higginson, former and current Utah State cheer champions from Salem Hills High School. They reveal the not-so-secret world behind the scenes of competitive cheer teams.

It's a grueling level of physical, emotional and mental commitment to be the best in state several times over. Plus the sisterhood created by a shared love of the sport has bonded these girls as life-long friends.

Full disclosure. Your humble host was a cheerleader at Utah State University back in 1991 so I get to chime in with my similar experiences and perspectives.

Today my guest is Tiffany Sowby, founder of a new foundation, Rising Violet, supporting mostly women who are trying to establish financial independence from previous partners who were the sole bread winners. Many women feel cultural expectations and pressure to rely entirely upon their partners for financial security, but due to death, divorce, and other circumstances, later find they are unable to provide for themselves or their family.

Tiffany shares her story behind the creation of Rising Violet, who Violet was and why they do what they do. Tiffany is also the co-host of the fun podcast called The Sisterhood Podcast

Welcome back to the program ya'll.

On the show today is my queer daughter Eden Strader. She came out to us three years ago. The process was a serious growth challenge for us as her parents. We handled it a little bit right but mostly wrong. Not out of malice but ignorance. A lot of damage was done but we've learned how to love better and deeper. It was a rough time in our story but we now have a healthy relationship, loving her as she is and will continue to be. She gives us a lot of back story to...well...her story.

Ladies and gentlemen, and whoever else is listening. Welcome back again to the show.

This may be one of the most intriguing episodes in the last 5 years. Several months ago I interviewed author Charlene Paul, Episode 159, who wrote a book called Devotion Deliverance Deception, Keep Sweet - Pray and Obey, Isaac's Story about a young mans' life journey inside the FLDS Church and the world of polygamy and mind control.

Today we have the subject of that book, Isaac Steed with us.

Buckle up for a more in-depth look at what it was like growing up, and living a "happy normal childhood" inside the FLDS Church and the tightrope walking it took to survive under the total and absolute control of the then leader Warren Jeffs and what it was like to be banished in an instant for no apparent reason after literally devoting EVERYTHING to the group.

My guest today is Amy Watkins Jensen, faithful member of the LDS Church, wife, mother, and creator of the IG account, Women on the Stand. This episode is primarily for members of the LDS Church but has implications in all religions and organizations. Why is this important? In a typical LDS Church meeting, for example only the Bishop and his counselors are seated on the stand behind the pulpit. Anyone visiting that ward (congregation) can look up and know who the leaders are. In the Oakland, CA Stake for the past decade, the women’s organization leaders have been sitting on the stand during ward and stake meetings. Fair and balanced right? No problem. Back in October of 2023, a member of the churchs area authority for that region of the country decided having women leaders represented on the stand was a problem and put an end to this practice. This was an abosolute slap in the face to the women of the church on so many levels and it hurt. A lot. You see there was nothing broken here. This practice was benefiting thousands of people in these Bay Area wards yet some leader, not from the area, decided, this was just not how things were supposed to be done. Amy began her search for answers at the local level and turned up empty. Letters to the general church offices also seemed to have fallen on deaf ears for now, so she has created this community to spread the news and make some change. The Salt Lake Tribune ran an OpEd and here is their podcast about the story too. I’m sorry ladies that you have been getting a raw deal for like forever it seems and I may be a little late to the game but cannot unsee the imbalance. I call my brothers in the church to step up and push for better visibility for our sisters. They matter more than we have been showing. After a long and successful career as a high school coach and administrator, Mark was "sentenced" to prison by his local school board. He became the academy principal with the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, Utah.

Arriving at the "Island of Misfit Toys", he quickly realized a massive opportunity to truly help and correct inmates. He saw prison through the eyes of the inmates who are not the monsters we often think they are. They're more often than not, decent men. Your brothers, fathers, uncles and friends.

During his eight-years inside he saw enrollment in the prison academy jump from 200 to nearly 1200 students and enacted, first hand, a mode of change that is more than possible in a severely broken system...if only someone at the top would listen. That someone may have just arrived.

Welcome back to the second episode in my series for LDS (Mormon) parents of gay children. In part 1, Episode 155, Jake guided us through this first phase of his coming out journey as a 34 yo man to his parents a little over 4 months ago. On today’s episode, we have an additional special guest, Sue Petersen, who was the Stake Relief Society president in the Elk Ridge Utah Stake for the past 5 years. Sue has a grown daughter who has been in a lesbian relationship for the past 7 years. She shares with us how she has navigated that path, the mistakes she made and the bridges she has built by following Christ's example. For those not familiar with the LDS church, the Relief Society is the womens organization within the church. In Elk Ridge there are 12 wards or congregations and Sue was the leader over all those. I want to say in the spirit of disclosure, we are still only getting Jake’s perspective at this stage. We don’t use his last name or call out who parents are out of respect for their privacy so please keep that in mind as you listen. Sue holds a support group for moms of gay children every month on the second Thursday, 7-9pm. Welcome back to the program Parrish The Thought listeners.

Today's episode is the first in a short series I'm doing for LDS parents specifically and also applies to parents of all faiths.

My guest and new friend, Jake, is 34 and has recently come out to his LDS parents. Having an already strained relationship for the past 15 years has been hard enough so one can imagine how this news was received. Jake takes us step by agonizing step through the road trip home to tell his family he is gay. The reactions aren't what he was hoping for and he shares with me the dark places of his mind he's gone to prior to coming out and since. No one should ever have to feel suicide is an answer.

In all fairness to his parents, this is a surprise and shock to them. He's had a lifetime to process his orientation. It's new for them and only time will tell how the family dynamic will play out.

Parents. We can and must do better at loving our children, no matter their age. Especially Christian parents. Christ asks us to "love our neighbor." He didn't say only love thy neighbor if they look, think, act, live, like us and do as we say. Either we follow Christ, or we do not.

Welcome back to the program everyone and whomever else is listening. My guest today is Lacee Smith. She is currently running for one of the open seats on the Payson, Utah city council. With local elections just a week or so away, we’re talking about why she is passionate about running and why it’s important for you to exercise your voting rights. In the past, only a small percentage of eligible city voters turned out. People are losing faith in and disillusioned with the governmental process and fearful of a percieved “good ole boys” club mentality where decsions are made and money is spent without the approval of the citizens. Welcome back to the show everyone and happy Halloween to those of you into all the dark and spooky things.

Today, in light of the passing of Friends superstar, Matthew Perry and all the recent and and not-so-recent celebrity passings, my guest is Cary Snowden. He has been writing some of the most creative and heartfelt celebrity obituaries I’ve ever seen.

Jump on in for a stroll into the macabre, the funny, the witty and sometimes a little heartbreak as we talk about his connection to the famously departed.

Here is Matthew Perry's Obituary

Matthew Perry has left the building. As one of the 'Friends,' Perry entertained the world and influenced culture through the 1990s in what was then the most popular sitcom TV had ever produced. Friends was huge, with many of my peers hosting weekly watching parties. We all loved it. Lynne and I still watch reruns as late as this week. Friends produced quotes and drama that were repeated and discussed at every company water cooler for the next week. Perry played Chandler Bing, a quick-witted Friend who offered the voice of reason to roomies Ross and Joey. He was my favorite on the show, and by the sound of it, probably yours, too. He did a handfull of other shows and a movie or two, but Friends will always be his legacy. He was terrific, and has left us far too soon. Drowning in a hot tub. 54. Contact Cary Today

Hello Parrish the Thoughters. Yes that is a word and you are my groupies. Enjoy your place in the club.

My guest today for the fourth time is my friend Kris Kristensen. For those that are joining us for the first time or if it’s been a minute, three years ago, Kris was diagnosed with stage 4 Chondrosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer in his pelvis and was literally weeks from the disease taking his life. To save him, doctors performed a grueling surgery called a Pelvectomy. Yes it’s as harrowing as it sounds. The entire left side of his pelvis had to be amputated and in the process he lost a perfectly good left leg.

Needless to say his life was forever changed and this interview is part 4 in a series of life check-ins to see how he is often winning the battle to get his life back to a somewhat normal state and also a deep dive into the darkest recesses of his soul where he often ends up while trying to make sense of the why behind this new journey.

He tells me that dying would have been easy. Living is the hardest part.

Below are links to the previous three episodes of his journey.

Interview #3 - The doctors took my leg and now my career won't have me back...yet.

Interview #2 - 9 months with my new leg and an MBA in life.

This episode is a little disturbing and enlightening.

My guest today is 19-year old Camilla Cloward, founder of the non-profit organization that raises awareness to the world’s number one growing criminal enterprise, human trafficking, Giving A Voice.

Her story is one that no child or human should ever have to endure yet out of the horrific darkness of repeated sexual assaults starting at age 14, leading into drug addiction and a suicide attempt came the passion not be a victim and to help other young people never have to travel the road she has.

Camilla also drops a huge bomb with the recent discovery and betrayal by someone very close to her and her cause. It's beyond heartbreaking however she will turn this into currency. Just you watch.

Mark Twain said "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.”

The story you’re about to hear is one of the reasons this phrase exists.

You may think you know what happened in the tragic shooting of Breonna Taylor back in March of 2020 in Louisville KY, but no one knows the real story better than the lead officer on scene, Sergeant John Mattingly.

Sadly, the truth has been buried by the local and national media, elected officials, hollywood stars and professional athletes and the consequences have been devastating. Until now.

We talk about Johns book, "12 Seconds in The Dark, a Police Officers Firsthand account of Breonna Taylor Raid". He explains the minute by minute events of that fatal night and the subsequent fallout.

Welcome back my raving fans. Thank you for your continued support of the show. This interview was done about 18 months ago by a moderator at StoryCorps (One Small Step). The One Small Step program was created in an effort to remind the country of the humanity in all of us, even those with whom we disagree. Learn more about their initiative to bridge political divides, one conversation at a time.My guest was Chiereme Fortune a young black Democrat from Bowie Maryland. I am very white, from Utah and at the time may or may not have been a screaming Republican. On the surface, the two of us may have avoided ever getting to know each other but in the end we realized we had much more in common than we didn’t. I apologize up front as part way through the conversation she kept getting cut off so had to do the second half of the interview via cell phone. Our moderator was Lea Zikmund, whom I have had as a guest on my show since then about a recent book she published. Chieremie will be coming back on the show in the next month or so with an update on her life and the cool things she has been doing so stay tuned. Please enjoy the show and maybe think about someone who you have disagreed with in the past or currently that may be creating a divide and see how you can bridge that gap by simply being interested in their story and learning from them with no agenda other than love.#OneSmallStep #StoryCorp #NPR #TalkToEachOther #SeeTheHumanity #BridgeTheDivide #UnitedWeStand #DividedWeFall #LoveThyNeighbor #LoveYourNeighbor #WhoIsYourNeighbor #DoUntoOthers #GoldenRule #ForCryingOutLoud #LeaZikmund #ChieremeFortune

When you use social media, what do you look for? Happiness, relatability, or something else? Author, Lea Zikmund takes a deep dive into this exploration. In the midst of her dad’s illness and becoming a young caretaker, Lea Zikmund began looking to social media to find community. In the process, she began to notice a dynamic in our culture that tends to criticize those who share publicly about moments of grief, loss and hardship. She also noticed there are still many people who want to use social media as a space to connect on these exact topics. This book takes a close look at the intersection of grief, loss, and the everyday Americans’ social media use. Through interviews with friends and acquaintances, Lea attempts to understand how their moments of sharing helped them, if at all. Are there aspects of social media that can be more helpful to us in difficult moments than what we experience in person together?Get the book now!: https://www.amazon.com/Crying-Out-Loud-Connecting-Through-ebook/dp/B0BD6BBZ75Contact LeaInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/leazikmund/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/lea.zikmund

My next guest was a struggling, worn-out concrete contractor who worked from sunup til sun down every day to barely make ends meet. One grueling day a client he was working for gave him a miraculous gift which changed his fate and fortune almost immediately! My guest today is Heather Thomson, life-long liberal democrat, all-around great human and my cousin. She’s on the show today to talk about her adverse reaction to the SCOTUS ruling on Roe v Wade and why she thinks it’s a horrible idea that makes women second class citizens. In the process, however, we discover that no matter what side of any political topic we may fall, we can still see and appreciate the humanity in each other.

I had the privilege of having 13-year veteran of the Louisville, Kentucky Metro Police Department, Dexter Pitts as a guest on the podcast a few months back. Now the tables have turned and I am a guest on his show called I Am Pitts. We discuss many of the current issues plaguing America and some recent hot button issues such as Roe v. Wade, Juneteenth and how social media is widening the gap and causing more division. We do not just discuss the issues, We try to think of reasonable solutions and alternatives to make America better for everyone. We all can play a small part in changing our world.

When God wants to give you a gift, He wraps it up in a problem. The bigger the gift, the bigger the problem. My next guest is Jedediah Beckstead and he is with us today to talk about how on a random spring day in March of 2015 his life changed forever. While doing a front summersault jump onto a trampoline, a move done hundreds of times before, he fell on his head and suffered a life altering injurie that left him a quadripeligic. My guest today is Tony Acosta, a new friend, fellow realtor, and podcaster here in the Salt Lake area. But the real reason he is on the show today, he’s also an amature boxer.

Most of my life I thought boxing was one of the dumbest sports of all time. Why would someone willingly subject themselves to a concussion and other bodily injuries.

I get it that sports are risky and injuries can happen but this one it’s almost a guaranteed outcome.

Tony sets the record straight and changes my mind and also shares how boxing helps his real estate and podcasting career.

Lace up your gloves and get into the ring. Ding Ding.

My guest today is Dexter Pitts, coming to us today from Louiville, Kentucky. Dexter is currently serving his community as a police officer on the Louisville Metro Police Department, served one year as a US Border Patrol agent in Arizona and prior to that, did a tour of duty in Iraq where he was severely wounded by and IED in 2005. He has also published his first book called “I Am Pitts: Memoirs of an American Patriot”, the story of….well…his story. It’s an incredible read. Welcome back to the program Parrish The Though listeners.

Today, my guest, back on the show for a third time is Kenny Wyland, self proclaimed liberal, atheist, capitalist geek. We tackle the tug-of-war of understanding within social and political issues between liberals and conservatives. We demostrate it is possible to have decent and civil discussions in spite of the ever widening divide in our country.

Lets's do this!

My guest today is host of the ever growing podcast, We The People, Our American Stories, Tina McCafferty. Her show focuses on American heros as she sees them, from members of the military, entreprenuers and immigrants, to the every day Joe.

So apparently, today, she thinks I’m a hero of sorts. We introduce our audiences to each other and discuss the reason for each of our podcasts. We also talk about how we both are doing our part to help this great country remain the shining city on the hill. We laugh, we cry as we more fully understand our why.

My guest today is Matt Garlick, owner of Northstar Survival in Utah County.

IT'S NO SECRET that the world is in a bit of a scary place right now. With the numerous devastating wildfires, increasing numbers of earthquakes and hurricanes wreaking havoc across the world, and the continuing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic on 2020, we are in a time unlike any other. It is clear, now more than ever, that NOW is the time to prepare. Despite the fact that countless people have come to this realization, the number of those who have actually taken measures to prepare is barely noticeable. As we looked deeper into why this is, we noticed a common problem. When it came to preparing for potential disasters and adversity, people just didn't know where to begin.

He didn't start this company to simply sell survival kits. He started this company because he's seen the pain, chaos and stress that hit thousands of homes as unexpected disasters and pandemics wreak havoc across the nation, both in a temporal and emotional sense of the word. People need help preparing, and they need it now. Millions of families are so far from being prepared for what is to come, but they deeply desire direction and are in need of guidance. Because we are deeply passionate about helping these families, we built what we call a HUMAN GUIDANCE SYSTEM, which is going to be critical during future times of need. We aren't just selling survival kits. We are building human beings to be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared.

Today my guest is author and License Clinical Social Worker, Nathan Sellers. We talk about his new novel/therapy book that reads like a Richard Paul Evans story. The life lessons learned by the story’s main character can connect with all of us as we play in the arena of life. Book Summary: Robert’s life as an art restorer is ripped away when he is blinded in an untimely accident. Depressed at the loss of his career and connection to his passion, he drowns in darkness. After his death years later, he is shocked to arrive in the afterlife still blind. Paradigms are shattered as he comes to understand that to have his sight restored he will need to challenge his pessimistic, myopic focus and “see” what he failed to see in life, even before he went blind. Will he spend eternity in a self-inflicted hell, or will he abandon his lifelong blindness to see Heaven? SIGHT takes you on a journey through pain, trauma, bitterness, and resentment to discover the power of forgiveness and healing by opening one’s eyes to the good that always exists in the world around you.

My guest today is the CEO of Vortechs Management based in Layton, Utah, Paul Burgon.

He and his team of super smarty smart genius types are revolutionizing and putting the sexy back into the recycling industry by making it so simple, even a teen-ager can do it. I mean, like, who wouldn’t want that.

Vortechs Waste to Energy is a startup company that has nine patents pending for a "village scale," hyper-efficient recycling system that can recycle any hydrocarbon--any plastic, used motor oil, shredded tire, coal waste, or the car interior from a recycled car. We recycle where the waste is, rather than shipping hydrocarbon waste hundreds of miles to very large, very expensive facilities (which dramatically increases the carbon footprint). The Vortechs WasteNgine is a village-scale system that can be installed behind a retail distribution center, at an existing landfill, or on any half acre industrial or commercial site. We recycle any hydrocarbon waste profitably, without government subsidies, and without washing, sorting, or shredding waste prior to recycling.

My guest today is a young man who, only three short years ago, was depressed, broke, rejected by family and friends. Drudging through dead end jobs, working himself to the bone for a meager $10/hour barely making payments on a Toyota Corolla.

Since then he has risen, literally, to the top of the door to door sales industry ending his 2021 season with over a million dollars in sales and over 1200 accounts sold becoming THE number one sales agent in the industry.

His reward. At age 23 he was able to pay cash for a Lamborghini Gallardo.

He truly is in a league of his own. Please help me in welcoming Austin Pritchard as we take a journey from the dark spaces of the heart and mind to the pinnacle of his existence...at least for now. He is only 23.

My guest today is the Communications Director for the Utah Hazara Association, Ghazanfar Ali.

Until I attended a fund raising event one month ago, I too, knew nothing about the Hazara people nor the tremendous struggle they have endured for generations. Hazaras are Dari-speaking people, thought to be of the Turk-Mongol race and live primarily in the rugged central mountainous core of Afghanistan with an area of approximately 50,000 sq. km.

They, much like the Jews, have been systematically marginalized, persecuted and brutalized for centuries simply because they exist. For whatever reason, because they want to live normal productive lives, like their neighbors, they are deemed a threat in Afghanistan and neighboring countries like Pakistan. Thousands upon thousands have fled for their lives to neighboring countries and, of course to Utah and other cities in the US.

Ghazanfar Ali shares a brief history of his people internationally and how we can help locally as more and more refugees arrive in our community on a weekly basis, especially in the wake of the recent US Troop withdrawl and subsequent mass exodus from Kabul, for a better opportunity.

America and Americans are welcoming, loving, generous and kind. If you're a Christian, the Lord said Love thy neighbor as thyself. These wonderful people ARE our neighbors and need our help.

Also according to Ali, below are several immediate ways you can help these people have the basic freedoms and necessities to start their new lives here in Utah. Contact the Utah Hazara Association directly.

  1. Humanitarian Visas
  2. Personally meet them and ask how they are doing and how you can help them.
  3. They need help building a community center where the can gather, worship and support one another.

Here are some local Utah organizations you can reach out to should you desire to help further.

  1. IRC - International Rescue Committee/Salt Lake City
  2. CCS - Catholic Community Services

Many states in the US and countries around the world have their own chapters or associations.

Back on the show for a third time, Jonathon Dunne is America's favorite Irishman who is passionate about the ideals behind American exceptionalism, and has been blessed with opportunities to reach millions promoting the importance of limited government, individual freedoms, and free markets.

He is the host of the Freedom's Disciple podcast on the Blaze Radio Network, written for countless online websites and an inspirational keynote speaker devoted to America‘s founding principles.

He arrived stateside September 7th for his 5th American speaking tour. This trip takes him to 15 different states, speaking with over 65 groups in 85 days about “Reclaiming America's Narrative", and explaining exactly WHY America is an exceptional & Unique Nation.

If we are going to stop the continued erosion of our God-given rights and restore them, we must understand how America changed the world and helped us take a 5000-year leap forward.

It didn't happen by chance, it happened because the pilgrims risked everything to escape a tyrannical king. Then, 156 years later, the founders risked everything to declare America's independence from England and redefine man's relationship with man; and man’s relationship with government

Now, 240 years later, America and the world need to be reminded of those founding principles as the relationship between man and government has become extremely imbalanced.

On May 20, 2021, Bryan Woodcox tested positive for Covid-19. His only symptoms were a fever and body aches. They did a chest X-ray, and it looked completely normal. On May 22, he was having trouble keeping his oxygen saturation levels up, so he went to the ER at 9:30pm. A new X-ray showed that his lungs were “much, much worse.” A Covid Room was found at a different hospital, so he was transported there and admitted at 2:30am. The disease progressed such that in only 24-hours Bryan was unable to breathe on his own. Covid had inflicted extensive damage to his lungs. The medical team told us he had to be intubated, or he would die within the hour. They gave us time to say good-bye, because they did not expect him to ever wake up. We were told he only had a 5% chance of surviving. Bryan said “That’s still a chance.” He told me he was not ready to die, that he was going to fight, and to tell everyone to pray for a miracle. On May 24, 2021, at 4:30am, Bryan was intubated and placed on life support, in a medically-induced coma. We were told if he did survive, he would be on a ventilator for at least a month. After being placed on life-support, Bryan was transferred to U of U Medical Center, so that he could receive more advanced treatments. Our family asked everyone we know to pray for a miracle. Miracles began happening almost immediately. Within 24-hours his lungs had improved so much that his chance of survival went from 5% to 35%. Covid patients typically have good days followed by bad days, but Bryan never had a single bad day. He progressed so quickly that he was off the ventilator after just 5 days, and 5 days after that he came home! Miraculously, he is expected to make a full recovery, and he is well on his way there. This experience has been life-changing, and we are not sure exactly what the future holds for us, but we are so grateful he is alive, and we are ready for whatever God has planned for us. #covid #uofumedicalcenter #jordanvalleymedicalcenter #rewhipped #bryanwoodcox #parrishthethought #parrishpodcast #faithintrial #VaccinesBringUsCloser #prayerworks #miracleshappen #miraclesdohappen #covidvaccine #antivaxx #novaccine #mybodymychoice #chip

My guest today is Kenny Wyland. Self proclaimed liberal, atheist, geek (software engineer and Star Wars fan) and capitalist. All the things Fox News warned us about and so much more. We sit down today to talk about the buzz and social panic that is gripping our nation regarding CRT (Critical Race Theory). We dive into what it is and a what it isn't. Should we shun or embrace it.

Is CRT a way of understanding how American racism has shaped public policy, or a divisive discourse that pits people of color against white people? Liberals and conservatives are in sharp disagreement. My guest on the show today is my favorite Trump supporter Jamie Lamb.

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Wrong or right, she, like millions of other Americans, felt they had a grievance during and after the 2020 presidential election. She, travled to Washington DC on January 6th of 2021 to see then President Donald Trump's keynote address at the Save America March sponsored by Women for America First.

Settle in for a first hand witness on the events of that now infamous day in our nations' Capital from her perspective.

S4: E8. My guest today is Jennifer Yeo, principle broker and founder of Presidio Real Estate in 2011. She has 11 offices in the state of Utah and one in Idaho. Years ago, she read a Forbes magazine article that said that the top 3 most untrusted professions were 1. Car Salesman, 2. Lawyers and 3. Realtors. What a shock this was to her as she loved helping others dream of homeownership become a reality. She was at a large brokerage that had a few agents go to prison that year for mortgage fraud. She thought, these are my colleagues? It was disturbing to say the least, and she longed for something better. Somewhere that the "Good Guys" of the industry could thrive. So with a glimmer of hope and a lot of determination, she decided there was never a better time to start a brokerage. It's been her mission to "Raise the bar".

One week before the 2020 presidential election, I interviewed Carlo Barrera, a 28-year-old Dreamer, originally brought to the US when he was 6-years old from Queretaro, Mexico.

I had him on the show for a couple reasons. 1, I wanted to know more about the Dream Act from a personal perspective and 2, to try and humanize policy. We, and when I say we I mostly mean I, often don't realize that legislation and policies enacted by our officials have consequences that affect people's lives. It's easy to dismiss the magnitute of such policies when we don't have a personal connection to them.

Our 4th interview today is a follow up 4+ months post Biden inauguration to get a pulse on how he and 750,000 other similar Dreamers are feeling and what the next steps are as they hope for a pathway to permanent citizenship. The Democrats have control of the House, Senate and Presidency so one would think passing this legislation would be a slam dunk. No so much.

My guest today is Spencer Ivey, a successful entrepreneur and owner of Ivey League Fabrication in Spanish Fork, Utah. His team creates some of the most amazing custom metal artwork, gates, railings and staircases in the state.

Strap in for this wild story of trauma, depression, addiction, a failed suicide attempt and a dedicated climb to the success you see today.

Shortly after high school he became heavily addicted to heroin and cocaine. After about 3 years of hard living he decided a sereious change was in order.

No longer was he going to be controlled by this substance. After 18 months of an outpatient program he was able to get and stay clean. Holding a steady welding job he was able to pay off his past debts, legal fees and court fines. He tried a little college after earning his GED. The best thing he learned was that he was and is capable of doing anything with discipline and determination.

He soon realized that business and entrepreneurship was his path. He quit his job, bought a new truck, signed a contract to pay $27K in business consulting then spent his last paycheck on a welding machine. Best investment ever. 5 months later he left college and started what is now Ivey League Fabrication. With nothing to lose, perseverance, and a relentless drive to prove he was not a worthless drug addict, he was able to make $1 million in revenue in the third year business.

Josh Taylor is a filmmaker, writer, designer, and creative strategist, but at his core he is a Storyteller. When he's not writing a book/screenplay, putting images on film, or working on one of his personal creative endeavors, he helps companies in the midst of pivotal change/transformation moments, discover, craft and share their own stories, through creative content, experiences, and workshops, in order to help their employees and customers build a stronger emotional engagement and human connection to the business, its narrative, and its journey through change. He's also channeling some of his personal curiosity in the form of a new Podcast that he co-created and co-hosts which will release its first season end of Decemeber/early January called the Swell Podcast. The podcast asks three key questions "What does it take to create something that never existed before?" "What does it take to challenge the status quo" and "What does it take to change the world" and it features thought-leaders, world-builders, game-changers, disruptors, and other pleasantly rebellious humans and their stories, journeys, and experiences that shaped them, while they set out to shape the world.

We talk about the reasons we tell stories. Ironically this interview became and interview of the interviewer at times. Fun chat.

A great and terrible story of a young mans journey through addiction to freedom.  I met Marshall Roberts in 2005 in the hallways of the Highland, Utah 18th Ward (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) during weeky youth activities. I recall a sad, angry teenager who wouldn't crack a smile if you gave him a hundred bucks. He was a little too cool for his own good or so it would seem. In this 2-part interview we do a deep dive into the the reasons behind the sadness and the depths to which it took him over the next 15 years. We travel from the peaceful community he once called home to living on the streets of Salt Lake City to 8 years of incarceration in the Salt Lake County Jail and Utah State Prison to a free and happy man with a new hope for a better life.  Marshall can be reached via email at quick.james.adaephon@gmail.com and is also available for speaking engagements to share his story with any youth or adult group event.

Today I sat down with Jeremy Brockbank, CEO of Ant Hill Retail. Considered one of the most influential players in US retail, he and his wife/business partner Jen, not only have built hundreds of brands but have also built the 'Fastest Growing' brand on the Inc 5000 and holds multiple 'Shark Tank' records. Jeremy has also consulted for Point 72 Private Equity (2016-2017) as well as was an Adjunct Business Professor at Utah Valley University (2015). While this is an impressive resumé of accomplishments, the real value in this conversation is talking about the how and why behind their successes and how absolute integrity is the key ingredient.

My guest today is the one and only Chelsea Nye/Wolf.

All of us have baggage in our lives from past hurts. That damage, whether deliberate or unintentional, can come from absent parents, failed relationships, abuse, abandonment, various trauma, fill in the blank, etc. We discuss psychology, spiritual healing, how these things affects people, and how we are living in a time where there are a lot of resources for those who want to better their lives. All forms of healing have their place. All our journeys are different yet similar. Sit down and get comfortable or uncomfortable:-)

My guest today is Josiah Roueche. 35 year-old married father of 4. In 2007, only ten weeks into his new marriage, while riding the train home from work in a Dallas suburb he befriended a man and struck up a casual conversation. Thinking nothing of it, he said goodbye and headed to his car at his designated stop. The next six hours would prove to be the most harrowing of his, what he thought would be, short life. Hang on to your seat because Hollywood can't write this stuff.

When he was 11 years old he and his family moved to Terre Haute, Indiana for the next 13 years until his move to Utah 6 years ago. He works at a treatment center for struggling teen boys in Orem Utah. I've invited Phil to the show today to talk about whether or not America is systemically racist, a statement I've heard many times for many years. He is black, living in predominantely white Utah. Lets dive into the mind and thoughts of this great man.

Four weddings and no cake! My guest today is my sister Renee Coe. I asked her to come onto the show to share her life long addiction story. Renee has had a food addiction for the better part of 40 years. For years we nagged and poked her to find out what the reason was. For years she pushed me, her husband and children away continuing to bury the bottled up hurt, shame and anger in an attempt to make it go away. The reason for all this. Between the ages of 6 and 7 she was repeatedly abused at the hands of an older cousin. Feeling ashamed, dirty and helpless, she turned to food, the one thing she could control. She told no one until a short 4 years ago and has been on the recovery roller coaster since. Sit back, hang on and be inspired by her new determination to rise above this pattern of perpetual self destruction. Follow her story on the following social media platforms: Facebook and Instagram Give her a shout out and some encouragement. She is losing the weight and planning to never find it again.

Our guest today is, real life Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, newly elected California State Senator Brian Dahle. The good Senator talks about his journey into California politics and why he does it. We discuss the challenges and joys of having a platform to make real and lasting change in northeastern California. Dahle, with his wife Megan and their three children own and operate their own business in Lassen County called Big Valley Seed Company. He knows how to represent his constituents as he is one of them.  Dahle talks about how he gets things done by being willing to treat his political opponents as friends instead of enemies. Not an easy task in the toxic and divided political climate that engulfs our country. A little small town goodness goes a long way towards real progress.
