Welcome to Law and Life LIVE: S1, E23! This week I am going to show you how to complete a Florida Family Law Financial Affidavit. Most family law cases seeking financial relief, alimony, child support, and the like, require the filing of a Florida Family Law Financial Affidavit. This includes temporary as well as permanent financial relief.

In Florida, there are two types of Family Law Financial Affidavits. The long-form Family Law Financial Affidavit is for those people who make a gross income of over $50,000.00 per year. If one makes less than $50,000.00 per year, a short-form Family Law Financial Affidavit is proper. I regularly get questions about marital assets and liabilities, who owns what, can I be kicked out of my house, and the like from clients in newly filed divorce cases.

Here are the answers to those questions and more. Financial inequality plays a big role in pre-filing posturing. Do be bullied into thinking you are entitled to less than the law provides for. A lot of jurisdictions, like Miami-Dade County, have Status Quo Orders in please to maintain assets and liabilities.

Welcome to Law and Live LIVE: S1, E17 - Murder, Mayhem, and a Suitcase

This case was sent to me by a follower and it has some strange resemblances to a couple other cases. This is the murder investigation of Garlan Ross of Orlando, Florida. Mr. Ross was killed on March 28th, 2020, by James Allen White, a homeless man. Two other homeless people helped White dump Mr. Ross' body in a wooded area.

This case is a good example of the hard work and dedication homicide detectives put into a case. There is a very detailed description of the investigation that I will break down and present to you.

Thank you for joining me on the Law and Life LIVE: S1 E8 - as we discuss court closures, court updates, case updates, life in South Florida, and social distancing.

Fortunately, our law firm is well equipped to operate remotely while still being able to provide a full range of legal services to our clients. In this LIVE, I discuss what is going on with the courts and how the closure of the courts is affecting cases.

Courts are still hearing emergency matters in family law cases, hearing domestic violence petitions, as well as first appearances and bond hearings in criminal law matter. Although the courts are running limited schedules and staff, all essential court proceedings are being handled.

How does this affect your family law, divorce, child support, child custody or domestic violence case? In most cases, it will cause a delay in the routine progression of these cases. Emergency matters can still be heard in these cases.

Some judges are doing phone hearings and other judges are using teleconferencing software such as Zoom to conduct hearings.

For criminal cases, all jury trials have been suspended. First appearance and bond hearings are being conducted.

Florida's Extreme Risk Protection Orders, also known as Red Flag Laws or Gun Confiscation Orders. Florida enacted this law after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14th, 2018. I will explain how these laws work in Florida and what to do if confronted with such an Order.

These Orders are popular with gun control advocates and more states are passing similar laws. There is presently a battle in Virginia about this very topic. At the same time, many jurisdictions are proclaiming themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries.

Season 1, Episode 2: Behind the Yellow Tape - Domestic Violence

I get a lot of questions about my career as a police officer. For those of you who do not know, I was a Miami-Dade Police Officer for many years before becoming a lawyer. In my police years, I worked in uniform patrol for a few years and spent the rest of my career as a homicide detective.
