How do you create infrastructure that is supportive of cyclists? How do you develop active transportation networks and link places? What does it take to work with outside partners to develop better bicycle and pedestrian connections to transit? These topics and more are covered in this episode with the following guests. John Bennett, who is the Safety Education Programs Manager at Georgia Bikes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving bicycling conditions and promoting bicycling throughout the state of Georgia. Bennett is also an adjunct faculty member in the Public Administration Department at Valdosta State University. Colleen Kiernan is the Senior Director for Government & Community Affairs at MARTA. Colleen comes to her role with MARTA with a deep background in policy, advocacy, and city planning. Before MARTA, she spent much of her career at Sierra Club, where she worked as a field organizer on transportation and energy issues. Terry Landreth is the owner of Camden Bicycle Center, located in Camden County, Georgia. Terry is well known in this region for his positive outlook and motivational attitude toward bike/ ped issues. He is a lifelong advocate for greenways, outdoor recreation, as well as bike and pedestrian safety. Whitney Shepard is a Principal Engineer/Planner at Transport Studio, a company she founded in 2013. She manages diverse projects for local and regional governments, with a focus on multimodal transportation, health impacts, and advanced geographic information systems applications. For the last several years, Whitney has been an active volunteer, promoting policy and environmental changes to increase access to healthy food and physical activity.
