Whether it’s mom-life or work related, being honest and kind is what I’m striving to be. This podcast is an outlet to share my experiences learning Hawaiian at home with my husband and teaching it to our kids. Hawaiian moms and moms of Hawaiians - we have so much we want to give our children. Let’s do it together.

In this episode we interview Dr. Kalawaia Moore, who is an expert in Hawaiian History and Politics, about the Hawaiian Kingdom and its illegal overthrow. Dr. Moore explains to us how this history can have a huge outcome on Hawaii today.

Do you ever have questions about how to say day-to-day things in Hawaiian? I know I do! I’m pretty typical so chances are some of my questions will probably be relatable to you. This is day three for me of taking notes during the day while I’m with my kids and studying them at night.

New Series - As a busy mom and business owner I don’t just find time to learn Hawaiian at home, I have to make it. I’m upping my efforts as I’ve realized that Pili is getting to the point of where what I know is not enough. I’ve set a new goal to try and reach Malu’s current level of speaking in 3 months. To do this I am writing notes throughout the day and then at night I discuss these questions with Malu. This new series is an Audio Journal of our conversations. We start this episode with a little explanation of the letter “w” and how it’s used in Hawaiian. The meat of this episode however is about being uncomfortable speaking Hawaiian as a second language speaker and also being misunderstood.
We’re coming back to talk about what I have (more like haven’t) done to learn Hawaiian thus far. If you’re like me and focusing on studying is hard for you then maybe what I share will be helpful! That is my hope. I know we’re all busy and living in all parts of the world so it may seem impossible to learn Hawaiian as a family, but if it’s something you feel is important than don’t let anything stop you!
