Interview with Brother Guy Consolmagno, Astronomer and Curator, Vatican Observatory:
In 2014 Brother Consolmagno, a well known astronomer at Curator, Vatican Observatory Meteorite Collection was awarded the Carl Sagan Medal for Excellence in Public Communication in Planetary Science. We were fortunate to interview Brother Consolmagno during a recent trip to the Bay Area where he was speaking at NASA Ames.
In this interview, we asked Brother Consolmagno about his new book Would You Baptize an Extraterrestrial? and his best selling book, Turn Left at Orion. We also discussed why he studied science, why students can use their parents' books about Plato and Shakespeare, yet they would not be able to use their parents' science books. Brother Consolmgano shared with us why he believes religion should not be tied to science and he pointed out that the Father of the Bing Bang Theory, George Lemaitre was a Catholic priest who did not want the Church to favor the Big Bang Theory because he reasoned that in 100 or more years,the Big Bang Theory might be proven wrong.

Despina Papadopoulos' Day-for-Night Solar Dress made a big fashion statement when it was first unveiled, so did the click-sneakers and now, Despina's temperature sweater and talking sneakers are making their mark the wearable technology industry. Due to her extensive and inventive portfolio in wearable technologies, Despina Papadopoulos was named one of the top six most interesting women in technology.
KZSU talked to Despina about her wearable designs, the design courses she teaches at NYU and the new projects that she is planning for the future. We also found out about how Depsina and other designers' collaboration on the Afghanistan Artisan Project could help the artisans in Afghanistan and other developing countries.

In their interview with ModernTekNews at Stanford University, President Alejandro Toledo and Stanford Professor Chris Gerdes discussed the future of Driverless Cars at Stanford and in Latin America.
President Alejandro Toledo, former President of Peru (2001 - 2006) and Professor Chris Gerdes, who heads Stanford's efforts in building automous vehicles, discussed how driverless cars will increase safety and reduce the amount of energy we use in driving. President Toledo will campaign to be re-elected as President of Peru in 2016. if elected, President Toledo told us that he would like to build scientific cities where many scientists from Stanford and Latin America will work. President Toledo and Professor Gerdes also discussed how driverless cars could be used in Peru and Latin America and how to start thinking of solving some of the urban planning problems in crowded cities in Peru and in Latin America.

In this interview, President Toledo who will run again for re-election in Peru in 2016 discussed his plans to use solar energy in Peru and his vision to help the poor in Peru and how he will look for alternate fuels to decrease Peru's dependence on oil. Dr. Richard Swanson who founded Sunpower while teaching engineering at Stanford University discussed his vision for solar fuels that will reduce the amount of oil we use in transportation today and how that will help solve climate change. Stanford's Solar Car Team hosted the event and their Team Lead, Guillermo Gomez talked about their plans to improve their solar car for the next solar car race in 2015.
ModernTekNews on KZSU Stanford 90.1 FM interviewed Dr. Rodney Perkins, founder of the California Ear Institute at Stanford. Dr. Perkins is very well known in the Bay Area because of his pioneering work as an ear surgeon since the 1960s and his success as an entrepreneur. The first part of the interview focused on Soundhawk, Dr. Perkins' latest entrepreneurial venture. Soundhawk is the first ear wearable that uses mobile technology to help users adjust the levels of sounds they hear. If you walk around Palo Alto and notice people sitting in restaurants with device in their ear, it is the brand new Soundhaw, which recently started shipping.
In the second part of the interview Dr. Perkins discussed what we can do to protect our hearing.
