It is totally normal to view debt as dangerous, to view debt as something that can mess up your future. If you’re anything like me, you probably grew up hearing messages that debt was bad. “Credit cards are evil” and “Loans mean you’re poor”. Taking on debt basically meant you were in an inescapable hole, aka “snowball debt” that would be extremely hard to dig yourself out of. But what about good debt and something called snowball wealth? The same concept that applies to debt applies to wealth.
If you look at any billionaire these days, you’ll not only find they have debt, but they’re actually making money from their debt! This is what we categorize as good debt. Now this message may be hard for your subconscious to hear, since most of what we’ve been told surrounding debt and money are… well… lies. So let me start by saying it’s ok if it feels tough to bridge this gap and that is exactly why this podcast exists, to surround ourselves with messages that make money easier for us.

Meredith Noble and Alex Lustig were at their wits end with their grant writing course. “We were charging $350 for lifetime access to our course, and realized that it was actually costing us $700 to acquire and serve each student,” Meredith said.
Thankfully their consulting side of their business had been keeping them afloat. But in November 2020, Alex discovered a Facebook ad for the Recurring Profit Program.
The duo decided to go all in with the RP methods, and completely overhauled their offer, webinar, course and automated sales system - in THREE weeks. “We only had 6 or 7 weeks of runway left, and then we were going to run out of money,” Meredith said.
Fast forward to January 2021, they relaunched their course and made $7K in their first month. Today, they’re making $66K a month, using sales psychology and an automated sales machine.
Meredith is the Co-Founder of Learn Grant Writing, and Alex is also the Co-Founder and Integrator for the company. They help women build careers in grant writing and have the coolest mascot ever - a unicorn!

I’m breaking down how I run six businesses and only work part-time hours. On Instagram, someone made the comment, “You must work at every moment of the day.” And no, that’s not true.
Assumptions produce our actions. If we assume owning a business is going to take a lot of time, what are we assuming? That the time it takes to complete a task, is the value produced. When in reality, those are the things that keep the business running. But that’s not all the things that produce the value. There’s also leadership and strategy. So if we’re careful with our assumptions, we can start to second guess our actions.

This episode is about the phrase mindset issue. Mindset is so important, but only one part of the equation.
When you build a program, your students’ success should NOT depend on you, the course creator, to be successful. Because now those students think they have to keep paying you to see results. Great for retention, but not great for them because now they don’t trust themselves to make their own decisions.
The second problem is that many students in other programs are being told that they need to switch their beliefs and start believing something else.
How to Switch Your Mindset: Internal Conversations
Imagine this as a visual. You’re having an internal conversation with yourself. From that internal conversation, there’s usually a catalyst to an action or behavior. So that action or behavior is what is creating either an obstacle or a result. Both the obstacle and the result create different symptoms.
When a student comes to you with a symptom, they’re either frustrated or happy with something that’s going on with their business.
If a student comes to you with a problem that they believe your course can solve, you don’t want them to feel bad for having symptoms that frustrate them.
You have to maintain a neutral, steady place. Then, you need to celebrate them for speaking up about these symptoms. Many people view negative feelings as bad. And I think that’s why so many label that as a mindset issue.
Once we notice that a student is experiencing an obstacle, it’s our job to help them and guide them to identify that specific obstacle.
What to Do When People Aren’t Seeing Results From Your Course
Our knee jerk reaction is to blame the student or the student blames the course creator. We feel shame, and instantly want to blame the other person.
If someone isn’t seeing results from a program, you have to play scientist. Because what if it’s not the student? It’s your job to help them find a solution.
First, you have to ask that student where they’re stuck. And then go dissect that part of the program to see if it’s step by step enough.
Second, do they know how to think through the strategy? The content might be good. But is the strategy clicking with them?
Then, the third thing is asking if the method doesn’t work? If the method doesn’t work for them, it’s a content problem. Or is it the behavior of how they approached the lessons or videos? If so, then you need to go make sure those videos and lessons are crystal clear.
Eliminate Mindset Issue from Your Vocabulary
If you’ve ever been told that you have a mindset issue towards business, I would like you to eliminate that thought completely. Instead, word it as an internal conversation that’s not creating what you want.

Your beliefs are powerful tools. Right now, everyone is saying that, “you shouldn't be charging people right now who are in pain. No one should be profiting off of this.” That's a direct quote from another person's belief box. If you let that belief in, it will trip you up. Right now, selling what you offer is your way to change the freaking world. This is your work. This is your business. This is how you feed your family. And this is your contribution to society. You have zero control over anyone else's belief box. You only have power over your belief box. So don't waste your time and energy trying to put their beliefs in your box. It is your job as an entrepreneur right now to shift your offer so that people prioritize it. Because people will spend money on what they prioritize. The bottom line is, you help people achieve a result. It's your job to market that result.

Bree joined Recurring Profit when we first opened the doors in April, 2019. Since joining that program she has quadrupled her conversion rate and has learned several things. Like many entrepreneurs, I know that in order to run a successful business I must start each day in a positive and productive way. In my home, I have set aside a whole room for my morning meditation and routine. I pull out my meditation pillow and get into the correct head space. Once I am prepped for mental success, I want to see the numbers and the math that will help get me success in my business each day. I write out my math on a giant white board so I can see it throughout my day and even refer back to it to continue to remind me of my targets.
