The STEAMYak Podcast reviews news and info about STEM and STEAM, and the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). It is co-production of TreasureBeam, Inc. and AmSTEA, the American Science and Technology Education Association.
Today we are talking about Space.
Everything about exploring Space, companies investing in space technology, and jobs in the space industries, is rocketing forward. In the past, only country governments controlled space technology and travel, but ever since America and some other countries opened up space and space technologies to the investment and innovation of companies, there has been a sharp increase in activity, a rapid increase in new products, and a big reduction in costs for lifting a pound or kilogram into orbit.
This episode yaks about some of the big ideas as we sit on the dock, our ships almost ready to cast off for the stars. Our next episode will describe where we are with the details of companies and technologies we will need to fulfill our destiny and seek our density. That’s a science joke. Will we sink or swim out in outer space? Just like the exploration of other continents four hundred years ago, some will die trying, but some will survive. This will be a difficult, expensive, long term, focused effort that will require our best minds and some amazing Science and Research, Technology and Tools, Engineering and Innovation, Art and Design, and Math and Numbers to pull it off.
I am Will Crampton, President of AmSTEA. My guest in talking about this is Lisa Marie Swearingen. She is from the entertainment and PR industries, so she can cut through the hype. Her job is to make sure our conversation stays grounded.
In AmSTEA’s Integrated STEAM20 Standard, Space Science is Topic 4 in the Science and Research Module.
