Other than asking people for their feedback on social media, what else can I do to learn if people find the free guide, via signing up for my mailing list, helpful?

I do MBTI Personality Type consulting and archetypal life coaching, and my clients often find it really informative how their stress is both related to their personality type and their dominant archetypes, but I don't know if my free guide concerning such is meeting people's needs. Thanks in advance,

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) How do I organize blog posts when I blog on different topics? 2) How many therapy directories should I be listed on? 3) How can I get more people to open my emails?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Gary Brown

"Hi Juliet and Clinton!
Thank you for offering this opportunity to ask a question!
I have been blogging almost every week for the last 14 months.

I know that this is current "heresy" not to have a specific niche, but I am a "generalist" who has successfully been working with individuals, couples, parents, and adolescents for over 30 years.

On the menu bar of my website is "Blog". When you click on that, the most recent 10 blogs appear, with additional pages of blogs at the bottom for the viewer to browse.

As of now, my blogs are all jumbled together. My question is this:

Is it better to leave things the way they are, or have a Blog dropdown menu for Individuals, Couples, Parents, and Adolescents? If not a dropdown menu, do you have another idea that you like better?

Many thanks for your time in responding to this!"

2. "I’m not sure if I am getting clients from my directory listings. How many therapy directories should I be listed on? Right now I am on 2 - Psychology Today and Good Therapy."

3. "I noticed that not many people are opening my emails - about 20%. How can I get more people to open them? It doesn’t seem worthwhile to keep sending emails to my subscribers if only 20% open them."

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Alexandra Geelan

"What is the best way to market an upcoming, in-person workshop? Paid advertising and/or organic?"

2."I am wondering how I can increase my followers on Facebook? I was thinking of joining some groups that are in my niche. Should I join these? I am adding another stream to my therapy business. So one area of my business is aimed at clients and now the other at therapist training. I'm just listening to your latest episode about whether to have separate websites or not.

I really don't want another website for the reasons you mention but is it possible to have a separate blog for therapist training? I.e. I don't want to blog to therapists and clients in my main blog. On occasion I've just created a page on its own, would this suffice?"

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Mariló Corral

"I have many questions but one of them would be about how I can make my website come out at the top of the Google search. Thanks."

2. "Hello Juliet and Clinton,
There is a new hospital being built in the suburb next to mine + housing for 10, 000 being built over the next 10 years. I think this will be great for new clients between school hours because of the nature of hospital shift work.

If I lived in that suburb, and I was searching for a counsellor, I wouldn't think to google my suburb + counsellor because it is small and there is not a lot here. What's the best way to start marketing to the hospital suburb?

I thought of blogging about it in some way e.g. there is a massive uproar about the changes there but it doesn't really fit my niche.
Thanks"

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) I’m struggling to build my practice. Are my fees to high? 2) Should I offer a discounted package of therapy sessions? 3) Do I need a separate website to market my therapist trainings?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Kat Huxtable - Facebook group

"Hi all,
I'm looking for immediate ideas on what helped your private practices flourish or at least improve please! I've been here three years and having run a very successful practice in London (so I know I can do it!), I'm really struggling here and am now down to just working with UK clients via video conferencing.

I'm wondering if my fees are too high ($130)?

If I need to blog more? Find ways to advertise more?

I don't really have a niche, although I do work with refugees (voluntarily) and trauma. I need do something now as we are in difficult financial times so any thoughts of immediate (and with no cost) ideas would be hugely appreciated. Thank you."

2. Sam

"I'm a mental health Social worker and my clients only receive a rebate of $74.85 per session. My fee is $170 per session because I have two years of postgraduate university training on top of my four year SW degree and 2 years gestalt experiential training and 10 years experience.

I think my fee is reflection of my experience and training and it's unfortunate the Medicare rebate isn't more equitable amongst various professionals. Anyway my question is how do I know if I'm charging too much? I often find clients are asking to spread sessions out further apart than is ideal because money is tight. This sometimes impacts on the treatment. Has anyone had success in offering payment plans?

Or packages e.g. buy 5 sessions and receive the 6th session for free. Thus is probably also ethically complex! Any assistance will be appreciated I'm feeling stuck!"

3. Krystyna Louise

"Hi all, those of you who do a sliding scale for fees - how do you calculate and market it? Anchored with official health care concession card at the bottom, I suppose?"

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) What’s the best call to action to have on a website? 2) What do I need to do to stay organized in my business? 3) How do I stay motivated while I build my practice?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Dalila – Facebook group

"Hi Juliet and Clinton

I really like the way you offer your coaching sessions on your website. You clearly define what someone who wants to work with you can expect from a coaching session.

Is there a way in which we can offer something valuable to the clients to entice them to make a phone call? For instance, "Call for a 15-minute free initial consultation. In 15 minutes, we will discuss your situation and determine....."

What can I say that will be valuable and ethical at the same time. Can we say that we will help them determine what's the best next step for them on their path to healing?

Thank you"

2. "I have such a hard time staying organized. I can’t find things sometimes and I am all over the place working on different things, switching back and forth because I don’t know what I should work on.

I have 2 questions: 1) Can you please share how you stay organized and what tools you use to help. 2) Can you also share some tips for helping me know what to focus on? I am marketing some free talks, using social media, and I just started blogging. Plus I have to have time for my clients and my family. It all feels overwhelming."

1. "Someone just wrote a negative comment on one of my Facebook posts. I don’t know if I should respond, leave it, or delete it. I’d really like to delete it because it was not constructive, just critical but I don’t know if it is an acceptable practice to do that"

2. Dalila – Facebook group

"Someone approached me asking me if they can share my content on their site. They are divorce-based site where people can go and look for lawyers, etc. They also publish blogs, etc. They have many followers on social media and thousands of people visiting their site.

They would like to use my articles and post them on their site while attributing it to me stating that it was originally published on my site. There would be my name and the backlink provided.

Is this a good practice in terms of SEO? Are there any red flags? If I was to do this, how should I do it? Do you have any advice?"

1. Julia https://insightmentalhealth.ca****

"I missed your email marketing course. I have an email subscription set up with mail chimp, a free PDF teaching parents 3 listening skills (when they sign up)... now I'm thinking about what I can send subscribers weekly.

I was thinking that I could send a weekly email letting subscribers know I posted a new blog? But not sure how to go about writing copy for those emails or if this is even a good idea? Do you have any resources/books I should read about email marketing?

Thanks! Julia"

2. "I have an ebook that I wrote on tips for managing depression that is about 35 pages long. Is that long enough to sell? Also, where should I sell it and how do I sell it? I was wondering about selling it on Amazon as a Kindle download. Is that a good idea?"

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Richard – Facebook group

"I work full time in community mental health, network in person and see clients somewhere in between. I feel stuck on what I should focus on. I can't change my full-time job. The more I network, the more traffic I get to my website and the more referrals/clients I get. But, that tends to eat into my networking time, which eats into my hours available to schedule clients. I feel like I'm going in circles. How can I build my practice while working full-time?"

2. "I have been spending a lot of time doing my accounts lately and I find it really boring and time-consuming. Is there a time in your business when you should get accounting help? How do I know when it’s time to get a bookkeeper?"

3. Pamela – Facebook group

"I need some website advice. Overnight, my WordPress website received comments to practically every blog I have ever posted. A lot were posted in other languages and quite a few were just garbage. Needless to say I have deleted the comments but has this happened to anyone else? And if so why? And what should I do about it?"

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) Will a niche for introverts attract clients? 2) Why was my Facebook Ad not approved? 3) How can I have one marketing message that works for 2 niches?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Lucy

"I am considering the niche for my practice to be for Introverts - highly sensitive people and creatives dealing with stress, overwhelm and burnout in their lives, particularly in relation to pressure to perform/achieve in their work life. Do you think this niche will work?"

2. Pamela – Facebook group

"Today I was trying to boost a Facebook blog. Facebook would not allow it to be boosted because they said it was too negative. What the? The heading is “What can you do if you suffer with depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy?” Any advice would be appreciated. I am really stuck."

3. Michael – Facebook group

"I want to create a brief compelling, crystal clear marketing message/headline that will combine my two practice specialties and resonate better with my ideal clients.

For marketing purposes, I have developed two separate niches and websites. One is focused on helping people with anger problems, the other is focused on helping people with more classic anxiety problems like OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, P.T.S.D.

The “anger copy” has worked very well, but it can scare great clients away because they don't want to identify as “being an angry person”; even if anger has indeed been a lifelong problem.

I've been marketing the anger specialty for about 15 years. The “anger niche” is often a magnet for completely non-ideal clients.

I am looking for a compelling way to let people know that I am a seasoned therapist that can help in lots of ways, but I have specialties in both anger and anxiety...that I help people calm down and heal the roots of chronic anxiety and anger.

I receive quite a few referral from colleagues. Many of these referrals express doubts and reservations about working with me, because they have come across my anger management copy and it scares them. Fortunately some of my referral sources will send a “warm” referral who has been reassured that I “don't just work with anger”.

So I would love to have a brief, simple way to focus my marketing message that could make it easier for a client to identify with.

I welcome any suggestions at all!"

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Email - Jeanette

Hello Juliet and Clinton,

Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful variety of resources. I have learned so much from you in the last few weeks. The following is a bit of background followed by my question: I have just begun to build my spiritual counselling practice and have joined many groups, have started a website and a facebook page. My financial situation is very limited at this time so I am marketing in the least expensive way possible. Knowing this, can you offer me any suggestions on how I can optimize my current resources to the fullest while not incurring any expense. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jeannette

2. "I am re-writing my website and trying to come up with a headline. I have heard Juliet talk about headlines before saying that they should have a problem or a benefit in them. I am a relationship coach and am struggling to come up with one. Is a question one ok, and can I have more than one question? I see a lot of therapists doing that. Here are some questions I thought of:

Do you want help with your relationship?
Do you and your partner fight all the time?
Do you want a better relationship?"

3. Facebook group–Dalila

"Does anyone know of a platform that can be used for the creation of a directory? I would like it to be online with different categories, but where people can input their own information. I would like it to be online interactive, so people can search for people based on categories. I hope I make sense. Thank you!"

"Thinking about doing an online self-development course around healing from emotional neglect and understanding relationships with self and other. I work with these topics a lot in my practice as a counselling psychologist and would like to be able serve a wider audience by offering a course.

So, like a self-help book but in an online course format. I'm trying to get ideas how this might work the best. I'd love to do an online course but confused about the format: a weekly webinar, emails, videos...or something else and a membership??"

2. "Help! I have a competitor who is Internet stalking me and has been copying a lot of what I have been doing online, down to even swiping my website copy and changing it subtlety so it looks different. Every time I launch a new service, they also launch the same service. We are in the same geographic are a and service similar clients, so this is starting to hurt my business. What should I do!?"

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Ellen Slaton

"Hi Juliet and Clinton,
Love your show and I'm learning a lot!!!
I am starting a web business for people with Autism, focusing on parenting children on the Spectrum. I am pretty new to social media and would like advice on setting up my Facebook page.

I am thinking of a closed group for parents to communicate and network with one another, and for me to answer questions. Is that different from a site that would be open to the public where I would put posts about my blog, quotes, direct traffic to my website, etc.? Would you please discuss the options and what you recommend? Thank you so much for your help."

2. "Hi guys. I love your podcast and I'm also in your Facebook group, which is part of the free members program. Sorry, but I tend to lurk instead of participate, but I love reading the conversations. They are so helpful!

There is a lot of talk in the group about different online appointment schedulers. What are the best ones you recommend and how can I best manage taking clients using one? I'm a bit scared of my diary/schedule getting out of control if I use one, so would love tips on how I can prevent this from happening. Thank you!!!"

3. “On your last episode you talked about referral marketing. I wonder if you could talk more about how to this strategy works. Do we go in person and present ourselves, send emails or make phone calls? Your help is appreciated.
Thank you so much!”

3. “I am starting a practice part-time, as I still need to keep my job, so I have income coming in. For now, I am going to see clients one evening a week and on Saturday mornings.

I work in the area of natural supplements and naturopathy and a lot of my work is in collaboration with medical physicians. In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) Is it ok to add past clients to my email list? 2) Should I move my counseling practice to a more affluent area? And 3) How do I get testimonials for my ebook?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “I just had my website done professionally, and I am intending to send out newsletters in the New Year. The area I am feeling stuck on is I haven't done newsletters before, so I've never asked for permission from past clients as to whether I could email them information. Is it ok to email them and ask if they would like to receive newsletters? I am not sure of the ethics of doing this. Any thoughts would be appreciated."

2. “I am considering moving the location of my counseling practice to a more affluent area. Even though part of my service does offer bulk billing, working in a lower socio-economic area really isn't giving me many paying clients. It will take 1 hour to travel but I am hoping that I will have a higher client base and the rent is cheaper. What are your thoughts on this possible move?”

3. “I just wrote an ebook on how a paleo diet can help improve your health. It seems I need testimonials. What is the best way to get them when I haven’t any sales yet? What and how much information should I include?”

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “I am really stuck. I feel like I will never be able to succeed in private practice. I seem to go in circles and never get anywhere. I feel so hopeless about making this work that I can’t focus. Any tips for helping me think more positively?”

2. “I have been working with a website designer for the last several months. I just saw the first draft of the design and I hate it! It has taken so long to get to this point, and I can't believe it's not what I wanted. I haven't paid any fees to the designer at this point. What advice do you have for me in this difficult situation?”

3. “Since becoming serious about my practice, I've learned that numbers are important, which for me has never been fun. So I am wondering what are the numbers I should be looking at in my business and how often (weekly/fortnightly/monthly) should I look at my numbers? Also, what free software do you recommend for tracking your numbers if I can't afford a monthly accounting software subscription?”

In episode 100 Juliet and Clinton answer these questions: 1) Should I have a Facebook group for a niche that may not want their problems to be known? 2) Is it ethical to get someone to write my ebook for me? And 3) Should I collect full names for my email list?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “I'm feeling a bit stuck with my new niche website / FB page. I've been helping people deal with problems with pornography for more than 5 years now, and I'm really comfortable talking about it in session. I'm also convinced that I am adding value and helping unknot some difficult relationship problems. So I had a niche website built. However, now that it's finished and I am trying to promote it and my FB page, I've choked a bit.

My concern was (is) that I have set myself up in a niche that is going to be hard to get anyone to 'Like' or support me in a social media forum. I am concerned that were people to 'Like' what I am doing, they would feel that they outing themselves as having a pornography problem, or someone close to them has one. I've even have a close family member baulk, concerned that it would come up in their feed.”

2. “I want to write an ebook, but I don’t want to write it myself. Is it ethical to get someone else write my book and use my name? Are there people who will agree to this? If so, where can I find them?”

3. “Thank you for all the helpful information - your podcasts and blogs have been invaluable to me as I build my practice!
I am a trauma and addiction therapist in Vancouver. I have just created a new website and am launching a blog focusing on the connection between trauma and addiction. As I build my email list on my website, I am wondering about collecting full names and emails as opposed to just email addresses. Obviously, more information about subscribers is helpful. But how willing are people in providing name as well as email? Is there any ethical consideration around collecting this information?”

1. “I'm starting a monthly newsletter and trying to work out Mailchimp to make a template that I can just drop info into each month. I hate technology. Do you have any tips to help me?”

2. “I'm a newbie in the group, thanks for having me. I'm totally stuck on niche. I've been a general psychotherapist for 20 years and I know I need to get more targeted. I've done all of the exercises, brainstorming, and exploring. I change my mind 6 times a day and I'm spinning my wheels! How can I define my niche?”

3. “My website is quite old and has been ranking well for many years. It was looking very tired and old-fashioned, so I’m having my website redesigned and I’m about to launch the new version. What things do I need to be aware of to make sure I don’t lose any ranking?”

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “I work out of a couple of different locations that service quite different areas. At this stage, I have one Facebook Page that covers my business, but you can only have one location linked to a Facebook Page. I'd really like my second location to be present, so I am considering setting up a second Facebook Page for the second location. How should I approach this problem? One Facebook Page? Or multiple? Thanks!”

2. “How much time should I spend on my blog photos each week?”

3. “Hi, I'm keen to hear any ideas about how to market the second counseling room I have available at my new practice. I have exhausted my ideas and although I have had some interest, it has been much less than I'd hoped for. When I took on the larger space I was hoping to break the isolation of solo practice. In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) How to write a compelling personal profile for a website and social media? 2) How to find a niche? And 3) When should one start renting office space when starting out?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “How do you write a compelling personal profile for your website and social media? We're starting a new couples counseling practice early next year and are trying to write our profiles for the website and other social media sites but everything comes out either too impersonal or too cheesy! What should we be writing about to attract and engage new clients?”

2. “Hello there. I'm a psychotherapist (a generalist). I need to niche down and offer something rocking for someone in particular. I am truly stumped, in fact, in tears of trauma trying to figure it out. B2B is all over the place and so much easier. B2C is feeling nightmarish. Who to, what, who can afford it etc. Any help with niche for therapists moving into the current needs to specialise would be AWESOME!”

3. “I wonder if you could help me. I am building my private practice. I am just waiting to get an approval from the college that regulates psychotherapists in Ontario, Canada, where I live. I have my website and business cards ready, and I am focusing now on my blog and social media, just waiting to be able to work as a registered psychotherapist.

In the meanwhile, I am stressed about deciding on renting and office now or wait until my registration is ready (not sure yet when the college will approve my application) I have been looking for some office spaces, but not sure when to start renting. My fear is that I might find clients and not having a space or having a space but not having clients yet. Any suggestion or advice is great appreciated. Thank you!”

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “I want to create an ebook for people in troubled relationships. I would like to sell it, but I don’t know how. I don’t have an email list yet. Someone told me I could give the ebook away for free but I don’t want to spend a lot of time creating something and not get any money from it. What do you suggest?”

2. “I’m really discouraged. I have been trying to get more clients doing everything I can think of, and my practice seems stuck at about 3-5 clients a week. I don’t know what to do. I have what I think is a good website, I’m listed on several counseling directories, and I have a counselor who sometimes refers to me. What am I doing wrong? I think it is just too competitive in LA maybe? I am so discouraged I don’t even want to try anymore.”

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions 1) How can I target moderate-to-high income clients? 2) What CRM software do you recommend to track prospective clients? and 3) How can I get better results from networking?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. FACEBOOK GROUP – Ken

“I need help with two things: I need more clients because I need/want to earn more, and I have “empty hours” in my schedule. Second, I need more moderate-to-high income clients because so many of my recent new clients have been sliding-scale/lower-fee because they are low-to-moderate income. I’ve been in practice a long time to still have such a struggle getting my practice full (18 years total; 12 of them full-time). Do you have any suggestions or tips for me?”

2. FACEBOOK GROUP – Sue

“I’m wondering what CRM software you recommend to track prospect inquiries etc. When I get new inquiries in, I want to record them properly, be able to at the click of a button have an email that gets sent out with preset details. If I have to follow up with anything, have a reminder to do that”

3. FACEBOOK GROUP – Mari

“I feel quite stuck with networking with psychiatrists and psychologists. I have approached them by saying that I’d like to get to know other services / professionals to built a strong network for referring people. I have had very little interest. In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions 1) How do I find inspiration when writing a regular blog? 2) What do you think about new payment systems that share the purchase on social media networks? and 3) How do I support my practice if my niche starts to change?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Wendy – Facebook group

“I’d love to know where I can draw inspiration when writing a regular blog?”

2. “Hi Juliet and Clinton, In recent months I’ve had two different clients ask to pay for their sessions by Venmo. I had to look into it, as I wasn’t aware of what it is. Now I’ve found that sales on Venmo are visible to social networks. So, if I accept payment via Venmo it could give me exposure; on the other hand my clients are then exposing a very private event (coming to therapy) to their social network. These two clients may not have thought of that – and I wonder if I have a responsibility to keep a boundary there and hence insist they pay by other means. Do you have any thoughts about this?”

3. FACEBOOK GROUP

“I started a private practice with a niche in mind, and advertise / and market to this niche, but found that the universe kept sending me clients that were seeking support for slightly different needs. So my question is, how do I evolve my practice to meet these new needs?”

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions 1) which methods have been proven to get results when marketing a new practice? 2) is it viable to build an online counseling practice with no previous client base? and 3) what should I put in a marketing folder to leave with businesses?

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. “When marketing your new practice, which methods have been proven to show better results over a long period of time in generating clients? I am trying to launch and grow my practice, but am finding it difficult at times. a) SEO – hiring a company to continually update your SEO’s on your page b) hiring a practice accelerator – not sure if this yields results continually over time or not c) networking events – if you could specify why type of events are best or whether or not it’s best to reach out both inside your industry versus outside your industry (which poses an issue with how to market yourself to someone outside of the therapist realm in a way where they are receptive and open to referring others)”

2. “Is it viable to try and build an online counselling practice with no previous client base and does it matter that I live in Tasmania which has a population under half a million? (I have previously worked as a student counsellor in schools and now attempting to start my own business. My husband and I are considering moving interstate if it becomes too hard here. I do not have the Medicare Rebate. I have a degree in Counselling and a Masters in Social Work). Thanks”

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Jessica

"HELP!! A few weeks ago I shared an interest in holding an info stall at a health expo in town. I've just found they have advertised me!! So I will go through with a stall, though I haven't organised anything. I am needing suggestions on what I can have at my stall that doesn't require too much prep. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!"

2. "I was been introduced to a radio producer recently, who is the partner of a new friend. We got talking and she was very interested in my work as a therapist. Anyway, she has since asked me to come onto a live radio show to talk about my work. I am terrified because this is a nationally syndicated show with a listenership in the hundreds of thousands!

I have never done live radio before. How do I prepare? Is there anything I need to avoid? What do I do if I freeze once we go live?

Any tips will be most welcome! Thanks Juliet and Clinton!"

3. "I have finally taken the plunge and have decided to take a credit card processor in my business.

1. Howard Todd-Collins

"I'm stuck with my newsletter format. Currently it goes out fortnightly and has 2 articles in it. The format is via Mailchimp. Subscribers receive a brief note from myself with links to my most recent blog posts on my website. I've had some feedback from a subscriber who enjoys the newsletter but finds he doesn't have time to read 2 posts. He has suggested having one article in the body of the newsletter instead of being directed to my website. What's your view? Is it better to have the post in the newsletter as opposed to directing people to my site?"

2. Ellie Hodges – www.elliehodges.com

How do you connect with other professionals in your area seeking collaboration without them feeling competitive toward you? Or how do you tell others about services you offer (eg a group program) that they don't when you have the same niche?

3. Helen Larkey –Facebook group - helenlarkey.com

“Is it a good idea to offer blocks of counseling sessions a bit like the coaches do? eg 3 months or 6 months I seem to be doing a lot of crisis work in my practice as a relationship therapist someone has had an affair or someone is about to walk out. Clients say that they have got a lot out of the sessions and I have had some wonderful testimonials but when you know there is more work needed and they cancel an appointment and then tell you things are ok so they don't need to come back. Or is this just the nature of the work? Hope this makes sense.”

In this episode, we answer questions about how to sell a package of workshops through your website, how to find your target audience online, and how to get your business more attention and exposure in the media.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

  1. Jodie Gale – Facebook group

Hi, Juliet and Clinton,“I am in the process of updating my website. I currently offer Saturday afternoon SOUL sessions. There is one x 2-hour space available each week. Because I sell these as a package, I would like a 'book/buy now' style button, which I would like to link to available dates and a payment button. Because this is just one session a week and my private practice is part-time (with weekly, long-term clients), I don't need to invest in a full-on booking system right now. What other options are there? Or would a PayPal-style system suffice?"

  1. Julianne www.balancedwellness.com.au

For the past 15 years my work has been Chinese massage (Tui Na), and counselling for the past 5 years. My question is how do I move towards finding my target audience for Teaching Qigong to help people who are stressed in their body and mind and want improvement in general health?”

  1. Alison Howarth – Facebook group – penrithcounselling.com.au

“I'm really curious about SourceBottle. Sourcebottle is a site where you can respond to people wanting to interview experts in the media, but I rarely see a question for my specialization, which is Domestic Violence – DV recovery and counselling for women. I was wondering if it's worthwhile going pro for $25/week? Are there other ways I can get the attention of the media for my niche?

In this episode we answer questions about the best way to sell meditations on a website, how to choose the best keywords for your website, and how to manage client inquiries when you have a full practice.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

“Hello Clinton and Juliet,I would like to record some meditations to sell on my website. What is the best system to record these? And, then to sell them, what is the best payment system? Thanks!”

  1. Maria Pirona - Atherton, QLD (from Facebook group)

“Hi Clinton and Juliet, I apologise if you have covered this in past podcast episodes. I haven't listened to them all yet. With regards to keywords, when one is setting up a blog and/or website, I know the idea is that we use these words frequently throughout our content so that Google picks them up. Just wondering how frequently we should use them and where they are most powerful/salient in the eyes of Google. Obviously a word like 'counselling' is very competitive for Google's attention so are we best to use niche terms that a potential client may search?”

  1. Kim Boivin - Facebook group

“Hi, thanks for all the amazing guidance you offer! I have a question I'm feeling stuck with: how do I best manage a pretty full practice? Actually, first, what is considered a full practice? Clients are often having to wait about 3 weeks to book in now. How do I know when to pause taking new clients? Thank you!”

In episode 70 Juliet & Clinton answered questions about how to stay focused when there are many distractions online, the best systems for managing your business finances, and whether you should offer an online course a second time after it failed the first time.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

“I have a hard time staying focused when I am working at my computer. I find I get easily distracted- sometimes before I even notice I find myself checking email, Facebook, Google or whatever. How do you stay focused on your work when there are so many distractions? Any tips you can provide would be a great help. Thanks Juliet & Clinton. Your show has been a great help to me.”

  1. Steven - Boston, MA

“What is the best system for managing finances? I spend so much time tracking things in an excel document and then give it to my accountant each year. I find I forget to track things sometimes and then have to spend a lot of time catching up? I’m also wondering how much I should be spending on my business. What percentage of income is average to spend on expenses?”

  1. Brittany

“I just had a devastating experience. I developed an online course for people suffering from over or under eating. It wasn’t for people with a diagnosed eating disorder. Rather, it was for regular people who have problems with eating - usually too much.

I developed all the classes and video recorded them and then shared the information about the course on social media. I only had 2 people sign up! I don’t know what I did wrong. I also didn’t know if I should still do the course with only 2 people or cancel it. It was so embarrassed and didn’t know what to do. I ended up cancelling the course, but am not sure I did the right thing.

Also, I am wondering if I should ever try to do it again. I don’t know if I have the courage to do it again. I did so much work. I am so disappointed.”

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1.

“Hi Juliet and Clinton. I decided to start an email list thanks to the great advice you give on your show. What is the first thing I should do to build my list? I feel stuck. People seem to be coming to my site but they are not signing up. I heard that webinars are a good way to build an email list, but I don’t have clue where to start with those.”

2.

“Robyn (From our Members Facebook group) I'm a massage therapist and Pilates teacher. I may be moving to a new city so my website is on hold at the moment while I figure out the move. But in the meantime I'd love to learn how to write to attract the types of clients I'm looking for so when I do move I can start promoting my work right away.”

3.

“A while ago Juliet started a Twitter list of people in our Facebook group. I don’t know what to do with that list. Can you explain Twitter lists please? I’d like to understand how to use Twitter and then maybe I can use it more.”

In episode 67 Juliet and Clinton answered questions about the best way to deliver an online quiz for therapy clients, how to turn a workshop for mental health professionals into an online course, and why some therapists are resistant to seeing their practice as a business.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Facegroup Group Question:

“Hi there Clinton and Juliet. I'm considering offering a free online quiz as an opt-in so I can get some diagnostic information from potential clients as well as gather email addresses so I can do email marketing later. What software do you recommend to deliver an online quiz via my website? Thanks, Jac”

2.

I have a course I’ve presented in person with a lot of success to other mental health professionals. I’ve had the idea to put the course online and make money from it. I think there is demand because my workshops always fill up when I run them about 6 times a year. I don’t have a clue how to put my course online though. Can you please give me some tips on how to do this? By the way your podcasts are fantastic – keep them coming!”

3. Lyn Preston

“A regular client wants to pay by visa and her supervisor declines, doesn't want bank fees or the hassle. Am interested to know if other trained therapists react like this? Why is there so often a resistance from therapists in seeing themselves as a business, especially considering their hourly rate usually reflects that of a professional consultant?”

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer questions about whether Pinterest is a good place to market a business, how to come up with good blog topics, and how to limit the amount of time and money spent on the technology needed for an online course.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1.

“I spend a lot of time on Pinterest just for fun so am very familiar with how it works and really enjoy the service. I am wondering if Pinterest is a good place to spend time marketing a business? I am a wellness coach. There is a lot of wellness and nutrition advice on Pinterest, but I am just not sure if I should spend time marketing there or how I would go about it.”

2. Josephine

“Hi guys. I’ve just started a blog based on your recommendation, but I’m feeling stuck. How do I come up with ideas for blog topics? I want to make sure I have interesting topics that people will want to read, but I’m stuck for ideas. Thanks for your help!”

3. Camile, Calgary

“I am a psychologist in Calgary, Alberta. I see a variety of clients so I don’t have a niche. I’d like to develop some online courses in the near future. I have 2 questions: My first question: Since I don’t have a specialty/niche area for my practice, I am wondering how it would work if I did a course on healthy sexuality. There doesn’t seem to be much out there on this topic.

My second question: I’ve done a bit of research and it seems you need a lot of technology to offer a course online- and the technology is expensive! How can I limit the amount of time and money I spend on setting this up?”

In this episode Juliet and Clinton answer questions about what is the best call to action to have on a natural health website, how to test if a health niche will be profitable, and how to overcome fears of public speaking.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Jenny, Ohio

“I’ve heard you talk about calls to action in a previous podcast and you recommended having a call to action on the bottom of every page on a website. How do you know what’s the best call to action to have? Should I ask people to call me, book online or submit a form? I’m guessing all 3 are too much. What do you think? Thanks in advance!“

2.

“Thank you for offering your podcast. I find it very inspiring and helpful. my question is about overcoming my fear of public speaking. I’m terrified of doing it, but feel I really should start thinking about doing some talks in my local community- both to build my naturopathic practice, but also to fulfill my dream of writing a book and traveling to speak. Do you have ideas for how I can get over my fears? Do you know people who were terrified and then became successful speakers? I need some encouragement.”

3. Elliot, Palm Springs

“Hi guys. Loving your podcast so far! I’m wondering how you can test the profitability of a niche. I’m looking at several different niches for my health business, but I’m not sure how to know if I can actually make money from it. Is there a way to test if I can make money from a niche? In this episode Juliet and Clinton answer questions about whether one needs additional back-ups of a website other than the back-ups a web host does, the steps involved in starting a therapy practice in a new city, and if it’s possible to make money selling audios on a website.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1.

“Can you please explain why I need to backup my website on a service other than the back-ups my hosting company does? I heard you talk about doing this on a previous podcast - or maybe it was in the Facebook Group?”

2. John, Los Angeles, California

“I’ve recently moved to Los Angeles to set up my practice. I’ve been a psychologist for 14 years so I’m confident with my skills and experience, but I’m wondering how I can break into the market in LA because it is completely saturated with therapists. What are some of the first things you would do to get a practice started in a new city?”

3.

“I have a full therapy practice seeing 25-28 clients per week. I’ve been maintaining this many clients for a few years now. I’d like to take the next step and offer something else for people that I can make money from. Everyone seems to want to do online courses, but I don’t want to do that. It seems so complicated.

I thought of creating audio programs to sell on my site, but I am not sure if that is going to be profitable, nor how I would go about doing that. Would you please advise on how feasible this is and whether I could earn an income from selling audios on my site?”

In this episode Juliet and Clinton answer questions about whether one should say ‘no’ to media requests, whether one should see therapy clients in their home, and how to know when it is worth it to pursue a business that isn’t working.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1.

“I am often contacted by some of the country's leading magazines, TV and radio shows for 'expert comment'. It is very time consuming as they send through 5-10 questions for magazine articles and radio takes a lot of prep plus the actual recording time. I want to stay friendly with the journalists but at the moment I don't have the time. Is it ever ok to say 'no' to media requests? If so how - so that I will be contacted again in the future when I have more time? Thanks.”

2. James - London, UK.

“Hi Juliet and Clinton. I love the podcast. I am a psychotherapist and I have been working in private practice for around 2 years. I currently rent an office in central London where I consult with clients.

For some time now, I've been thinking about moving my practice from this office to my home. Other than issues such as personal safety and non-verbal disclosures, I'm wondering what other factors I might want to consider before making a final decision of whether or not to see clients in my home?

I have a very small flat. There's no specific room for therapy, so I was thinking of seeing clients in my living room, which has neutral decor. From your experience, is it better to continue seeing clients at the office, or would I be better off (including financially) seeing clients at home? Many thanks, James.”

3.

“Juliet and Clinton - Thanks for your great podcast! I’ve listened to almost every episode and am learning so much. I am a yoga teacher and have been renting space in different places to offer my own private yoga classes. Eventually I hope to have my own studio, but I am finding it so difficult to get enough students for my classes. I wonder if it is worth it to continue? I think I have a unique perspective on yoga so I think I have a lot to offer, but I’m just not sure how viable it is to continue this business. There are so many yoga studios competing with me.”

In episode 60 Juliet and Clinton discuss whether it is ethical to get someone to write articles for your blog, whether working with men who have suffered the loss of a child is too small for a therapy niche, and the ideal length for blog posts.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Miranda

"Is it ethical to get someone else to write articles for me? I'm a terrible writer and really don't enjoy it, so I'm thinking of outsourcing the writing for my blog. Do I say they are mine or should I make it clear I didn't write them? What are your thoughts on this?"

2. Michael

"I'm wondering if you can give me some feedback about my niche. I am a dad who has been through a huge loss with the death of my young child (a victim of a crime) and subsequent breakdown of my marriage about 7 years ago. I feel called to work with men who have suffered similar losses, but I'm worried this niche might be too small. What do you think?"

3.

"Thanks to your show I started a blog. I don’t think I would have ever had the courage to do it otherwise, so thank you. J One thing I am struggling with is how long my blog posts should be. It seems a lot of people write short ones (a few paragraphs), but I’ve seen other people write much longer ones. Juliet seems to write longer posts than most. I wonder why you do that Juliet? What is the best length for blog posts?"

In episode 59 Juliet and Clinton discuss how to choose a good web designer and how much a website should cost, whether it is important to work with a marketing coach, and what kind of videos a natural health business should create for YouTube.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. James

"I've been trying to get my outdated website redesigned and I've already had 2 failed attempts with unscrupulous website agencies in India. So I'm going to invest in using a website designer in the US, but I have no idea how much I should pay. Some of my initial quotes range from $600 - $6000. How do I choose the right one and how much should it cost me?"

2. Jason - Toronto, Ontario

"How important is it to work with a marketing coach when starting a health business? From what I have read, it seems a lot of people who do well online have had coaches help them. Do you think this is important? By the way, your show is incredibly helpful."

3. Kaline

"I've heard it's good to have your own YouTube channel and to create videos on a regular basis, but I'm stuck for ideas. I work in the natural medicine field (Chinese herbs) and I'm not sure what kind of content I could create. Do you have any ideas for me?"

In episode 58 Juliet and Clinton discuss whether one should create a new domain name for a website when changing their therapy niche, how to create a introductory video, and how to promote counseling services products to an email list.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Jackie

"Jackie - I have a niche in addiction, which I chose because I had experience in that area. However, I don’t enjoy working with this population as they often lack commitment and don’t show up for appointments. I want to create a new niche working with women in high-stress jobs. I want to work with a motivated population. Should I create a new domain or use the old domain name? I love your show!"

2. Dane

"Can you tell me what I need to be able to create a respectable introductory video for myself on my website? I hate talking on video so any tips are appreciated!"

3.

"Hi Juliet and Clinton. I’ve been listening to your podcasts and you often talk about having an email list. I have decided to take your advice and start one. The problem is that I am not a good writer so I don’t want to create a blog. What content can I share with my list? Also, I am not sure how to promote my services and my ebook to my list? In episode 57 Juliet and Clinton discuss how to get started with an email list, how holistic nutritionists can compete with naturopaths, and how to get your therapist website to rank high in Google when there is a lot of competition.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Jerry

"Jerry - After listening to your podcast I know I should be doing email marketing, but I feel overwhelmed with the next steps to get started. I opened a Mailchimp account. What should I be doing next to get started as soon as possible?"

2.

"I am a holistic nutritionist in Vancouver, BC. I’m really struggling to build my business. Although people really care about their health here and seek out alternative practitioners, it seems people are more familiar with naturopaths than holistic nutritionists. I have a website and I’ve been putting up flyers and did a few talks, but so far I only have had a few clients. Also, naturopaths are covered on some insurance plans, but I am not. I’m almost ready to give up because I just don’t know if it is possible. I am hoping you will give me advice on whether I should quit or continue trying to create a practice here. If you think I should continue, can you please tell me how you think I can succeed? How can I compete with naturopaths?"

3. Jenny

"Jenny - I work in a major American city that is saturated with therapists. It's just impossible to make any headway in the rankings in Google because Psychology Today listings and many other websites rank above mine. What other marketing strategies do you suggest if I can't get my website to rank well?"

In this episode Juliet and Clinton discuss some ways to make training videos for therapy clients and therapists, how to structure “high demand” practices, and how to promote a therapy practice separate from a group therapist practice.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1.

"Hi Juliet & Clinton,

This year I would like to focus on making some passive income. I have 2 questions:

1) What are some simple ways to make training videos that clients and therapists can download from my website? (I am wondering about whether to create slides, videos or audios).

2) What should one charge per hour for the finished webinar/presentation/video/audio?
e.g.:
a) a one hour presentation
b) a 3 part x 1 hour presentation or a 3 hour presentation
c) a 6 part x 1 hour presentation
etc
Considering some will be for clients and others will be for professionals/therapists.

Many thanks."

2.

"Hi, I have a group child psychology practice and all my marketing uses the group practice name (which is not related to my name). I would like to build my own profile in the area of parenting during the perinatal period and early years. I'm not sure how to promote myself away from the group practice. Should I have my own website, Facebook page, etc? As well as clinical practice, I plan to create an online course, host Webinars to promote the course, and provide workshops for the community and professionals. Thanks!"

3. Carol Hopwood

“This podcast was great timing for me. Thank you. Since I have had a notice on my website explaining that my next new client appointments will not be not be for a while my ideal clients have contacted me and wanted to schedule. It didn't occur to me that folks would want to wait like that. Clinton I'd love to hear more about what you called "high demand practices" and how you structure those types of businesses and your lack of a cancellation policy."

In this episode Juliet and Clinton discuss how to use LinkedIn to attract clients, how therapists can manage a practice, market consistently and create products to sell, and how to get more people to subscribe to your email list.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. James, Perth, Scotland

“I have a LinkedIn profile, but I haven’t done much with it. Do you think it’s possible to get clients through LinkedIn? If so, what should I be doing with my LinkedIn account?”

2. Scott – Melbourne, Australia

“I am finding it difficult to get everything done to market my practice. There isn’t enough hours in a day. How does a therapist who already has a full practice find the time to write a blog, market locally and then create things to sell online as well? I see some therapists doing this online, but I don’t understand how they do it? Can you please shed some light on how this is done? Thanks for answering my question.”

3. Alex, Florida

In this episode Juliet and Clinton discuss which data is the most important in Google Analytics, what types of online products are best for therapists and wellness businesses to create, and how many email subscribers one needs to sell an ebook.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Angela – Atlanta, Georgia

“I recently installed Google Analytics on my website but I am not sure what data I should be paying attention to. It all feels overwhelming and I don’t understand all of it. Can you please advise on what I should be looking at?”

2. Kerri-Ann, Byron Bay, NSW

“Hi Juliet and Clinton. I LOVE your podcast (I never miss a single episode) and I hope you have time to answer my question. I am a healer in Byron Bay who offers a range of services including counselling, massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, crystal healing and aromatherapy (I know, I am a Byron bay cliché!). Anyway, I have been slowly building my email list like you suggest and most my current clients have given me permission to email them and I’ve been sending an email once a fortnight with health tips and advice. I’ve got about 700 subscribers now. I want to create my first product to sell online, but I don’t know what kind of product. Should I do an email or video course, an ebook, a membership program or something else? There’s so much to choose from! I’d really value your advice.”

3. Stephanie

“I am a therapist in Canada. I want to create an ebook so I don’t have to rely solely on income from my therapy practice. I haven’t decided on the topic yet, but I really love writing and want to bring in more income.

I have been building my email list with Aweber for about 5 years and have about 500 subscribers. I am wondering if that is enough subscribers to sell an ebook? How many subscribers does one need to sell an ebook? Thanks a lot for your help and for offering the show – it is so helpful!”

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton discuss whether it is worth marketing on Facebook, whether an online course or an ebook can get more sales, and how to make videos for an online course private.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Jonathan – New Orleans

“Hi guys. I’ve been listening to your podcast for a while now and wondering about whether it’s really worth using Facebook at all for marketing. I have a page that is only 6 months old with 50 fans. It seems like nobody sees my posts anyway and I’ve heard you both say that it’s harder than ever to get your fans to see your posts. I’m thinking of ditching my page and putting my efforts elsewhere. What do you think?”

2. Julia – Austin, Texas

“I have a wellness business where I practice acupuncture. My specialty is working with women’s health issues (PMS, menopause, infertility, etc). I want to create a product to sell online. Can you tell me if it’s better to create an ebook or offer a course? Does one get more sales than the other?”

3. Sally-Ann Connecticut, MA

“I am creating a video course on relaxation and stress-reduction which I plan to release a short version for free as an opt-in and then offer the fuller paid version for sale. In this episode Juliet and Clinton discuss whether therapists should hire search engine companies to help their therapy websites rank higher, whether therapists can benefit from using Periscope, and whether one can have both a general website and a niche focused website.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Kathleen, Edmonton, Alberta

“Hi Juliet and Clinton – Thanks for offering this great show. A search engine company keeps contacting me telling me my therapy website isn’t optimized properly and they can make it rank higher. Is this true? How do you know when to trust a company that contacts you via email like this? If I want to rank higher in Google do I need to hire a company to help me or is there a way I can do it myself?”

2. Tonya – Jacksonville, Florida

“Do you think Periscope is something that a therapist can use effectively to market a therapy practice? Thanks for your help.”

3. Rebecca

“I am a coach who has a niche helping people with ADD and ADHD. I’ve taken some marketing courses online and they have all said it is better to have a niche so I decided to focus on an area I know about since I have ADD myself.

However, my website doesn’t focus on ADD because I still want to provide life coaching to all kinds of clients, such as those in life transition, etc. Can I have an ADD niche without focusing my website only on ADD? Thank you for this opportunity. I really appreciate what you do.”

In this episode Juliet and Clinton discuss how therapists with more experience can charge higher fees, the best way to add a second niche to one’s practice, and if Instagram is a useful platform for therapists.

In this episode we answered the following questions:

1. Unknown

"For older, more experienced therapists in private practice, who have "earned" the right over time, with experience, to charge higher fees than people who are brand new to the field, how do we demand the fees that we are worth, without potential new clients being "scared off" by the fee and going to someone else, someone newer, who has lower fees because they are trying to get their clinical hours for licensure, or they are just less experienced?

How do we get paid what we are worth as more experienced clinicians, yet still stay competitive with the fees we quote new prospective clients?"

Doesn't experience count for anything with new inquiries?

2. Susan

"I have a 'niche' but am thinking of adding another. How is the best way to display this on my website? Many thanks."

3. Unknown

"I have a Facebook page and am wondering if I need to be using other social media for my massage practice. I was wondering about using Instagram. Is this an effective way for a massage business to get more clients?"

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton discuss and how one should go about changing the name of their Facebook page. They also provide tips for creating a marketing plan and define email list segmentation and describe how do it.

1. Jodie Gale - http://jodiegale.com/

"Hi Juliet and Clinton. I have 3 Facebook pages: The Psychosynthesis Centre which is aimed at psychotherapists for my psychosynthesis training. Mindful Women (https://www.facebook.com/mindfulwomen/) and now Women, Body, Food & Soul (https://www.facebook.com/WomenBodyFoodSoul/?fref=ts) which is in line with my new narrowed down niche and new website next year).

Mindful Women has nearly 1500 followers. I have never really liked the name Mindful Women but my first choice was already taken. My question is, should I just change the name from Mindful Women to Women, Body, Food & Soul (even though I can't change the URL) and delete my Women, Body, Food & Soul page (where I only have 100+ followers so far but the url)? Or should I change Mindful Women to my name Jodie Gale (same issue re URL)? This is the 3rd time I have had to start again re naming/starting pages so on the one hand, Jodie Gale makes sense to me, on the other hand, I think a themed page builds followers faster to do with the interest."

2. Ruth

"I feel I market my business in a very scattered way. I don’t have a business plan or a marketing plan which may help, but I don’t know where or how to make one. I don’t even know if it is important to make one or what I would put in it. Can you help? "

3. Jesse - Psychotherapist, Raleigh, North Carolina

"I'm starting to do more email marketing and am having success with sending a newsletter to my subscribers twice a month. I've been hearing that it's important to segment your email list. I'm not sure I understand what this means or how to do it. Can you please explain it and if it's important for me to worry about at this stage?"

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton address the following questions: how to set up a survey to find out which online course might get the most sales, how to market a naturopath business after taking a break, and if one should give up marketing on Facebook.

1. Sophie

"I am a therapist and want to develop some online courses and have several ideas for them. In fact, I have a lot of ideas and am not sure which ones to begin with. I work with a lot of different people so I could start a course on a lot of different topics. I’ve been stuck on this for a while because I don’t know which course would make the most sales.

Would doing a survey to my email list be a good idea? Or is there a way to do a survey on Facebook?

If so, how would I set up a survey? What technology is involved and what kinds of questions should I ask?"

2. Jenny - Naturopath, Toronto

"I am just coming back to opening my naturopathy clinic after a 4 year break while I had children. So much seems to have changed with marketing during this time and I'm feeling completely overwhelmed. So where should I start with marketing my business again?"

3. (No Name)

"I have a Facebook page and post there every day, but hardly anyone ever likes or comments on my posts. I am wondering if it’s worthwhile to keep going with it or should I give up? I don’t want to waste my time if people are not interested in my posts."

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton discuss the tools needed when starting an online course, how narrow one’s therapy niche should be, and define the term, “content curation”.

1. Monica - Orange County, CA

"Hi Juliet and Clinton. I'm loving your podcast and listen to you each week at the gym! I'm a therapist in Orange County, CA, which is absolutely saturated with psychotherapists. I'm wanting to create some online wellbeing information courses so I can have additional streams of income, as well as reach more people than in my local area. What tools do I need to be able to start creating and selling an online course? I have no idea where to start. Thank you for answering my question and keep up the great work!"

2. Richard

"How specific should I identify my ideal client?"

3. Kerri-Ann - Massage Therapist, Nashville, Tennessee

In this episode Juliet and Clinton answer questions about whether therapists should start a website or blog when they are still a student, how to notify potential clients that there is an opening when they have been on a wait list, and whether therapists should use affiliate marketing.

1. Jess Mills

"I am a mature age social work student with 12 years experience working in suicide prevention through volunteer and paid work. I intend to focus on suicide prevention and bereavement as my niche.

I listen to podcasts, and have considered starting a blog and website, but am reluctant to, as I am still a student and am concerned about marketing myself before I am ready to see actual clients. I am a member of professional organisations and am taking relevant professional development courses in my summer break. Do you have any tips for students who already know what they want to do professionally?"

2. Jodie Gale - http://www.jodiegale.com

"When I open up another day when my youngest goes to preschool next year, what is the best way to let potential clients know who have joined my mailing list? It is my main list. I am just thinking as I am writing, should I have had a separate list for this? And should I send a newsletter to my main list noting that I have space opening up?"

3. Louise White - Launceston Tasmania - www.awakenhypnosis.com

"I listen to a lot of podcasts and subscribe to emails out of the USA. I've heard a lot about affiliate marketing (particularly Amazon links). Is this something that you think is worthwhile for therapists, and is it even possible in Australia?"

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton discuss how much one should spend on business set up costs, what kind of photos one should use on a website, and how long it is ethical to keep a potential client on a waitlist.

1. Renee Burke

"If I have $4,000 to spend on my website set up, my business set up costs, plus business consultations, would you recommend to someone just entering job market and looking to attract cash paying clients that they spend $800 on consultations and $2800 on website or $700 on website and $1600 on guidance."

2. Louise White - https://WWW.AWAKENHYPNOSIS.COM

"Hi Juliet and Clinton. I really enjoy listening to your show. I'm a hypnotherapist in Launceston Tasmania.

Is there a new or different way to use stock photos on websites? Do you have any examples of websites doing this well? Even high quality shots look a bit the same to me. I'm also wondering if photos should be inspirational (i.e. girl with arms spread wide in grassy meadow :)) or should they address the pain of the client (i.e. girl sobbing into a box of chocolates). What's your belief on whether images must include people or whether interesting objects are ok?"

3. Jodie Gale - http://www.jodiegale.com

"Hi Juliet & Clinton. My practice has been full for nearly two years. When clients email, they often open up and share their story so I felt the most ethical thing to do was to put a sign on my homepage and booking page as follows, “Please note that my counselling and psychotherapy practice is currently full for 2015 with long-term clients. Join my mailing list to be notified of any upcoming session availability and my upcoming women’s workshops. You can check out my Saturday afternoon SOUL sessions where I have space between 1.30–3.30 on Saturdays. You can also contact me for a list of therapists I am currently referring to.”

I stopped taking a waitlist as such as I only work long-term and weekly with clients. I have recently had a session space open up for the first time in over a year. I currently have emails from clients from almost two years ago where they have said, 'please contact me in the future if a space becomes available'. How long is too long? Is it ethical to email a potential client from say early 2014?"

In this episode Juliet and Clinton answered the following questions:

1. Leona Dawson -Sydney, Australia

"Is putting fees on my website a good idea? My business name is NeuroHypnotherapy. I offer my clients psychotherapy, art therapy and hypnotherapy practice to creatively transform issues, concerns and problems into sustainable and adaptable solutions."

2. Taylor.

"I recently watched your video in the free membership program -the one on live streaming using Periscope and Blab. It piqued my curiosity so I decided to set up a Periscope account. I am having trouble imagining how I can talk in front of a camera when I don’t have any notes to follow. Seems looking away at notes would not be something my audience would appreciate.  I don’t know if I just talk without notes. Can you please share your thoughts on this? By the way, I’m loving the membership program - the transcripts are great."

3.  Shelley - London,UK

"How do you prevent your website from getting hacked? Mine was just hacked and it was a nightmare trying to get it back together. I don’t understand why someone would hack my site. In this episode Juliet and Clinton answered the following questions:

1. Mary-Jane Herbalist - Seattle, USA

"Hi there Juliet and Clinton. Loving your podcast. I've just binged on 30 episodes over the last 2 weeks! I have a question about Google Adwords. How do you know how much money to budget towards a campaign? I want to do Google Adwords advertising for my local area in North Seattle, but I have no idea how much money I should spend on advertising. And when I ask different people who use Adwords, their answers range from $500-$1500 per month! So my question is, how much should I budget for Google Adwords? And once it's underway, how do I know if it's working or not? Thanks for your help!"

2. Susannah Paterson - Sydney, Australia

"I run an early morning meditation group with 4 dedicated attendees. I need more! I have printed out some beautiful postcards and have distributed them as far and wide as I can. Lots of people saying "oh I'd love to come to that" and then they don't ..... I have posted on Facebook and Linkedin. I have tried the Mosman Daily but they seem pretty uninterested unless I can spend lots of dosh, which I can't justify right now ... I would love some ideas."

3. David - Buffalo, New York****

"Hi Clinton and Juliet. I just stumbled across your podcast the other day and have found the episodes I have listened to already be really helpful. I've had a bricks and mortar business in Buffalo for the last 7 years selling organic products and supplements and vitamins. I want to take my little vitamin and supplement store online so I can hopefully step away from needing to be in my store every day.

One of the reasons my little store has been so successful is we offer a very personal service in the store, including free naturopathic consultations, which people love, and we use the consults to upsell our products to our clients.

So I'm wondering if you have any advice of how I could replicate that service online and then market it? I'm aware I'm up against some huge online companies that sell vitamins and supplements, but I want to differentiate myself in the market by offering a much more personal service, which the big companies can't do. I'm also not sure of which order I should be taking the next steps. Any feedback or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!"

"Thanks so much for your show. I really appreciate you offering such a great free resourse. I am just starting to market using email and I don’t understand the advantages and disadvantages of using single and double opt-in for my email list. I am using Aweber.com. It seems that single opt-in would be better because the subscriber doesn’t have to do so much work. I don't understand why anyone would use double opt-in. Can you please explain the pros and cons of each?"

2. Jill Henry and Associates - Lane Cove, NSW, Australia

"Apart from the endless issue of finding spare time, it would be handy to have some advice on ways of avoiding infringing copyright when referring to a video, newsclip, journal, magazine or news article.  Thanks."

3.  Care Turner - Vancouver, BC

"I need to figure out a structure to add an associate. In this episode Juliet and Clinton answered the following questions:

1. Leona Dawson Clinical Hypnotherapist & Counsellor  - Sydney, Australia

A common piece of advice is to “find your niche” but I don’t want to do that too early in my career as a therapist for a couple of reasons: expertise still needs building, not wanting to cut myself off from finding an area I really enjoy but don’t know about yet…any advice on this?”

2. Brian Gieringer- Atlanta, Georgia

"Hello Juliet and Clinton, I am curious about the effectiveness of Facebook for practice marketing. I have tried to research this subject on google and facebook, but I quickly run into a lot of old links (2007-2012). It's difficult for me to imagine people liking a mental health page for all of their friends and relatives to see. Is Facebook marketing something that really works for psychotherapy practices? If the answer is yes, are there resources for finding best practices? Thank you and best regards, Brian."

2. Jill Henry and Associates - Lane Cove, NSW, Australia

"While using Facebook for marketing and business purposes only, how do you separate all the personal requests for friendship from purely business interest and relevance? "

3. Kat Love - Aagina Island, Greece****

“Hi Guys! I'm loving your podcast as usual. First of all, I have to say I'm a huge fan of your podcast. You both give out such valuable insights on marketing for healers and helpers. I'm a website designer and developer for psychotherapists and a lot of my clients are concerned that if they hire a copywriter to write their website copy, that the copywriter will erase their voice. So, to set the record straight, will a copywriter erase a therapist's voice in their website copy? And if not, how is this achieved? How can a copywriter both write the website copy and maintain the therapist's voice at the same time?

Hope that makes sense. I get this question ALL THE TIME from my clients. They say, "I would hire a copywriter but I think it's better if I write it so that it sounds like me" or whatever. And I'm like, "Noooooo! Hire Juliet!" Haha. So if you do answer this question here or elsewhere, I will be forwarding it to clients regularly.

Anyway. I hope you both are doing excellently! Peace, Kat”

1. Jeannette Kavanagh - Melbourne, Australia

2. Helen Larkey - Reconnect Counselling Relationship Specialist Byron, Ballina and Lismore NSW

“One of my ongoing challenges of my practice are fees and cancellations fees. Specifically living and working in a regional community where there is high unemployment what do you think about discounting to take this into account for some people? Also the ongoing matter of cancellations (you have probably covered this before) I am finding it difficult to implement a cancellation fee (I wish I had some one to do this for me!) Thanks once again for this opportunity."

3. Lisa - Power of Mind Private Counselling Practice

*"How well known and established is online counselling and online therapy in Australia to be able to break through the Internet and reach people?"

*"Theory supports that online counselling removes feelings of embarrassment / stigma issues. Even using Adwords to generate traffic, gaining clients online without referrals is challenging. What strategies do you suggest for online networking to gather referrals (from other allied health professionals)."

*"Is there enough education and resources about the benefits of online counselling available today?"

*"Even with increasing enquiries for online counselling appointments, what may be stopping clients from making that next step and booking an appointment online?"

*"With government services offering free counselling online, how can a private practitioner be seen?"

1. Philipa Thornton - Sydney, Austraila Www.PsychSolutions.net.au and Www.Marriageworks.com.au

“Thanks for the opportunity, Clinton & Juliet. Private practice is doing great and I am excited to be offering Resource Therapy training to counsellors. My challenge is how do I recruit clients for my therapist training programs?”

2. Kris, Fort Collins, Colorado - http://www.annakrisbell.com

“When creating a niche, how does one measure the accuracy of "too broad" or "too narrow"? In my case, I specialize in counseling those in chronic pain and their caregivers.

I've recently broadened to caregivers because the niche in therapy for chronic pain is rather new to most people and they don't understand the benefit. No matter how many doctors or other health practitioners that work with the body that I talk to, I have to really make a case as to how my services will help THEIR clients make progress more quickly.

Caregivers are more likely to see the benefit for themselves and MIGHT talk those in pain into trying therapy. I also teach classes to offer more ways for services to be "sampled." In summary, I'm wondering if I just went too broad by adding caregivers to my niche. I can't pay the rent, yet, while marketing to the chronic pain niche alone. It's been a long hard road so far. (2 1/2 yrs into private practice and have yet to break even).”

3. Tracey Janke Relationship Counsellor. Beenleigh, Australia - www.startpointcounselling.com.au

“My main issue with marketing and maintaining a viable practice is how to avoid the ups and downs that frequently occur in terms of number of clients. At times it is good and then as those clients finish up there is a lag before new clients come on. Cannot seem to get consistency. Is there a marketing strategy that I should be using? “I have a general private therapy practice that I run by myself. I work with adults and some parents. A colleague and I want to do workshops together for parents of teenagers. My website is not focused on teens, but hers is. Do we put information on both of our sites about the workshops, or create a new website?” I am worried about creating confusion on my site, but I am also worried about the time and money involved in creating a new site. Finally, I am concerned that because her site is focused on teens and parents, that any clients that come to us as a result of our workshops will choose her most of the time, because that is the focus on her website. Thanks so much for your answer. I love your show!”

2. Carol - Edinburgh, Scotland

“How do I get rid of negative reviews on Google? I have a negative review from a participant who attended one of my yoga classes. I’m pretty sure I know who it was, as she was a student for only one class and she complained to me afterwards because she didn't like the way I taught the class. I feel her comments are unfair and based on what she wanted me to do specifically to meet her needs. What can I do?”

2. Miranda Egan - Australia

"I had a full practice in the UK where I was practicing as a counsellor and had no problems getting clients. Since I have moved to Australia I have found it very difficult to build a practice. 1. Debby Heath www.debbyheath.com.au

"There are so many counselling and psychotherapy books I want to read; and forums, podcasts, blogs and user groups that I follow, but have trouble keeping up with. Do you have any suggestions on how to manage 'information overload'?" Thank you. Debby

  1. Gabby Mookhoek www.gabbymookhoek.com.au

"I am new to the field after completing a diploma in counselling. I live on the sunshine coast of Australia and have joined an office within a health care centre in a shopping centre. I've been offering free short consults to patients referred by the physio and other practitioners in the health centre, but I find after I book them in for the free consult they don't show. This is really frustrating. The other challenge is most people where I live expect to receive free counselling sessions or rebates from seeing a Psychologist, so I just feel like I'm fighting a losing battle. The college where I studied made it sound like there were lots of jobs for counsellors, but my experience when I apply for local jobs is no-one is interested in a counsellors with a diploma and they mostly want Psychologists or Social Workers. So my question is, what should I do to try and get my business off the ground?"

“Good morning from London. I have a wonder! My sense is that web sites are passé and that Apps are more efficient. Perhaps they are just simpler to use, at least that's how they strike me. I am just not sure about how to get your App out there when you are like me a small home-grown psychotherapy business. 1. Howard Todd-Collins - www.menandrelationships.com.au

“I have another question about newsletters & Blogs. My newsletter is monthly, currently with 3 blog posts attached. I have quite a lot of content and posting ideas up my sleeve.

My question is, does the frequency of my newsletter have to match the frequency of my blog posting? For example, currently I could update my blog more frequently than I send out my newsletter ?

Thanks Guys, loving your work!”

  1. Carol-Anne

“Thanks for your wonderful podcast! You two are amazing! I’ve been struggling for weeks trying to write the copy for my website. I don’t understand why it is so hard for me to do. I am a good writer (or so I am told) and usually I like writing.

I am a generalist and don’t want to have a niche because I seem to do ok without having one. The problem is that every time I write something, it just sounds so boring - generic - like the same thing everyone else is writing. How do you write about things like depression, anxiety, trauma, etc and make it sound interesting? I’d appreciate any thoughts you have. Thanks.”

  1. James, Rolfing Practitioner, Gold Coast, QLD

“Hi there. I've noticed lately that some of my competitor's banner ads are appearing all over the Internet when I am surfing. This includes YouTube and lots of large news websites.

I can't work out how my competitors can afford to advertise on these sites, but a friend told me this is called Google Remarketing and is quite cheap. Can you explain what remarketing is and should I consider it as a marketing strategy? Thanks in advance. Love your podcast!"

"I am a licensed psychologist in NY. I see clients both online and in person. I would really love to grow my online therapy practice. What is the best way to ethically market an online psychology practice to gain online clients?"

  1. Suzi, psychotherapist and counsellor, Brisbane

“Hi, I am so time poor because I have a busy family and work for an employer 3 days a week and am in private practice 2 days. I want to increase my private practice so I can leave my employer and work for myself. My biggest issue is I struggle to find the time each week to dedicate to marketing my practice. Can you please tell me what your best productivity tools and tips are to help me find more hours in a day?”

  1. Nancy

“Hi, Juliet & Clinton. I appreciate the opportunity to be able to ask a question.

I just stumbled across your podcast on Twitter.  I have worked in the corporate world for over 20 years. 1 year ago I started making my own natural soaps, face creams, body lotions, etc.

It’s a hobby right now, but I’d like to start selling them online and I have absolutely no idea where to begin. Can you please give me some guidelines - some beginning baby steps to take? Thanks so much!”

In this episode we answer the following questions:

  1. Ashanti, Herbalist and Acupuncturist, Boulder, Colorado

“Hi Juliet and Clinton. I'm so glad I've discovered your podcast - I look forward to every episode - you've helped me so much already with your tips and advice!

I am struggling with how to market my acupuncture business. I have a website which gets about 400 unique website visitors a month and sometimes clients say they find my website when they are searching for herbalist or acupuncturist in Boulder. The problem is my website traffic is not growing and has been the same for the last year. I'm thinking I should start a blog, but I'm not sure what to blog about. So my question is how do I increase my website traffic and more importantly, get website visitors who are in my local area looking for my services?”

  1. Kerrie

“Hi Juliet & Clinton,

What do you think of practitioners offering a free 30-minute consultation to new clients? Good marketing to give something for free, enable clients (and therapist) to make sure you're a good match, or do you think this strategy 'cheapens' ones brand?

Thanks, Kerrie.”

  1. Melissa, Reiki practitioner, Calgary, Canada

“Hi Juliet and Clinton. I've just found your podcast and have listened to every episode in a few days - I love your sense of humour and facts about Australia and Canada!

I have a newbie question that I hope is not too basic for you. I am a certified Reiki Master and have been in business full time for about 4 years. I have never used social media to market my practice and I want to get started.

I have been using Pinterest personally (which I love) so I want to choose that as the platform to start on (as you suggested - just pick one and learn it really well!). The problem is I have no idea how I can use it to promote my business. Can you please share some Pinterest tips to help me get started? Thanks!”

“Love your podcasts guys, congratulations. I have a Facebook business page, LinkedIn and Pinterest Account and about to launch a newsletter/blog. My question is regarding blog posts and my social media accounts. Is it wise to share my posts across ALL social media accounts? Would you recommend Hootsuite or an alternative to manage this? Many thanks. Howard”

  1. Kayden, psychologist, London, UK

“Hi Juliet and Clinton. Thanks for your great podcast! I really appreciate your free members program that I joined just last week. The transcripts are great - I can quickly scan the content of each episode when I don't have time to listen.

In the UK we have very strict ethical codes about marketing a psychology practice, which prohibits the use of client testimonials. I constantly get wonderful feedback from clients (some who insist they write me a testimonial, which I have to decline) that I can't use. Do you have any suggestions how I can use these successful cases and feedback in a way that doesn't breach my ethical code? Thanks in advance!”

  1. Catharina - Australia

“Hi Clinton and Juliet,

In the past 5 years I have gone through major surgeries and 2 interstate moves. Not knowing what the future held, I kept my practice small during this time, and changed over to a less stressful niche.

I am now ready and biting at the bit to create a flourishing practice again. However, how confusing would this be for people, after 2 niches: 2 websites, 2 practice names...?

How best to move forward? Would it be ok to just create another website, fresh marketing materials and directory listing and move on? Or should I, for example, put something brief in the About page about why things are different yet again?

Many thanks for any insights you might have. Cheers, Catharina”

  1. Felicia, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

“Juliet, I’ve been following you for at least 10 years. Thanks for offering all your free information and for starting your free members program. I can’t believe how much free stuff you are offering. How do you find the time to do it all? Even though I have been following you for a long time, I haven’t really used much of your information, as I wasn’t serious about building my business. But now I am…So, here’s my question:

I’m having an argument with my husband about my website copy. He thinks it should just say the bare minimum, like my name and credentials and a bit about my services. He says he never likes to read much online, and other people don’t either.

I think I should give people some information about who I am and how I work so that they get to know me a little bit. I know that a lot of your copywriting clients have quite a bit of information on their websites.

I’m not sure I need that much, but I think enough so that they know a little about me. Could you please comment on how much information one should have on their site?” Thank you very much!”

In this episode of The Ask Juliet & Clinton Show we answer the following questions:

  1. Michael, Naturopath from Melbourne, Australia:

"I've been in private practice for over 15 years now, but I'm noticing it's getting more and more competitive in the natural health space as the colleges are churning out so many new students these days. I specialise in irritable bowel syndrome and gut problems, but it's not a very exciting topic. Do you have any ideas how I can stand out from the sea of new naturopaths putting a shingle on their door and competing with me? I'm fairly savvy online, have a newly designed website, I'm on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and have used Facebook Ads and Google Adwords before, but I'm not sure what the best strategy is to reinvent and redefine my business. Thanks!"

  1. Sandra

"Is there any way I can make my website to look better on mobile phones without getting it redesigned? My website doesn't look good on my iphone."

  1. Jonathon, Therapist from New York

"Hi there. I'm a therapist in New York and I specialise in working with gay men on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I can command high fees as I've been in practice for 13 years, but I want to cut down on my individual work and leverage my time by doing more gay men's group work.

I'd like to use Facebook Ads to fill my groups, but I'm not sure what's the best strategy to use. I've done a course on how to use the Power Editor, so I have the technical skills to get started but I don't know how much I should spend on my ads and how long they should go for. Thanks for your help. Love your podcast Juliet and Clinton!"

In this episode of The Ask Juliet & Clinton Show we answer the following questions:

1. Mark from Laurence, Kansas- Thanks for offering this podcast. I’m learning a lot! I am trying to post on social media - twitter and Facebook mostly, but I find it takes so much time to find information and to create my own posts. I’d like to post images but I don’t have a clue how to do that and can’t imagine finding the time to do learn. Any advice you have on how you find the time to post to social media would be appreciated.

2. Jan, new psychotherapist from Portland, Oregon "I am new to private practice and have been told I should list my practice on Psychology Today. I'm trying to write the copy for my profile, but the word count is quite limited. What are some of the most important things I should mention in my listing to make sure I get the best results?"

3. Fabienne - I was listening to your show when you talked about video marketing. I have a slide presentation that I did for a talk I did on how couples can improve their communication. I was wondering how I might use it to promote my therapy practice. Could I could turn it into a video? Should I post it on my website as it is and maybe on social media? If you could explain how I might make use of this that would be great.

In this episode of The Ask Juliet & Clinton Show we answer the following questions:

  1. Melissa, massage therapist, Calgary - "Hi Juliet and Clinton. Thanks so much for your great podcast. I listen to you every week while I'm at the gym and find your tips and advice so helpful! I'm a massage therapist with a fairly busy business that has mostly been built from word of mouth. Truth is, I've never really had to do much marketing over the last 10 years, but I'm noticing that there is a lot more competition now in my area. I need to redesign my old HTML website, which looks like it got stuck in 1999! Thing is, I just don't know what are the most important things I should look for when redesigning a new website? What are the current website trends and what are the 'must have' pages for my new website to attract my ideal clients? Thanks for your help and keep up the great work!"

  2. Alex, therapist, Washington D.C. - What is a reasonable amount to spend on marketing? Is there a percentage that one should go by? I provide energy therapy to individuals and also offer classes to people who want to learn about energy therapy. I haven’t done much marketing yet, and am wondering how much I should budget for it. I know there are free ways to market, but it seems I am going to have to spend some money if I want to get clients and fill my classes.

In this episode of the Ask Juliet and Clinton Show we answer the following questions:

  1. CarolAnne -Thank you for all of your efforts to provide this platform for private practice questions and answers. I look forward to every episode! My question is about the psychology of pricing.

The past few years I've tried several ways of pricing my services. The most popular is offering a prepaid discount. In the past, clients could prepay for 4 to 6 hours and get a significant reduction in fees. Now I have simplified it to only one option of paying for 3 hours in advance for $300. FYI: On the rare occasion that a client did not use all of the time they purchased I gladly reimbursed them the remaining amount.

I have a busy private pay psychotherapy practice and recently raised my rates and now my rates $200 for an intake session and $100 an hour for the prepaid rate. $200 sounds like a lot more money than $195 - just like $95 sounds like a lot less that $100. Retail stores certainly use this pricing psychology effectively and I'm wondering about doing the same thing for professional services. I have mixed feelings about it and would love to hear both of your opinions.

Should I price my services a few dollars lower - instead of in $100 an hour increments? Thank You

  1. Karen Druce www.karendruce.com.au - What is the best way non-Allied Health Professionals can market to local GPs?

  2. Colette - I feel like I am going in circles. I’m a therapist and want to do more coaching so that I can work remotely. I’d like to offer my services via Skype and over the phone. I’m concerned about doing therapy out of state due to my license as it’s for California. The thing is, I can’t decide who to target for my coaching? I’ve never had a niche for my therapy practice, and I think I probably should have one for my coaching practice, but I don’t know which one. Here are some I have thought of: relationship coaching, mother’s going back into the workforce, mother’s with young children, parent’s of teens.

In this episode of The Ask Juliet & Clinton Show we answer questions from therapists and natural health businesses including:

  1. John Harrison - I am intrigued by the idea of doing a podcast. I would like to know if the time and investment is worth it? What is the best way to start with audio programs, equipment, etc? How focused does the content have to be? My favorite podcasts cover a relatively wide variety of topics and that's why I enjoy them. What's the rule of thumb to look at when staying "in a lane", or topics to avoid?

  2. Kris -What niche should I choose that will have a big impact and make a great income:

  3. helping married women decide whether to stay or end their relationship

  4. helping women end emotional eating and unhealthy cravings

  5. helping women let go of baggage before getting married

  6. helping women with divorce recovery

I've been struggling with this for years and just wish someone would say, “pick this” and do it for at least 6 months. I'm at the end of my 15-year marriage and on my own with 5 kids under 12.

I MUST choose something to focus my marketing efforts and stop being so scattered. This can't be an expensive hobby anymore, but a real career that supports my family. (I have experience and results in all of these niches at some point or another) Thanks so much.

In this episode of The Ask Juliet & Clinton Show we answer questions from therapists and natural health businesses including:

Lil - www.cymaticsbylil.com

How can I educate people to what therapy is when the name does not indicate what it is or what it does?

I am trying to pioneer Cymatic therapy that is well known in the UK but not in the US.

How do I Generate clients as a startup practitioner? I have tried using Groupon and Thumb Tack but they will not list Cymatic Therapy because they do not know what it is and there is no one else doing it. I listed the name of my business by offering discounts for Reiki treatments but that is not doing me much good. Thanks for taking my question.

Tony - How Can I use social media for marketing if one does not have a website?

I am a Clinical Social Worker who specializes in attachment based work with families. I work within an agency setting in Des Moines, Iowa.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the podcast and I am currently considering blogging and using Pinterest to market and build a stronger reputation in my community in addition to public speaking.

That said, as a therapist who works in an agency I do not have a website for myself. However, there is a website for the business I work for. I intend eventually to strike out on my own for private practice.

Julia- What are the best ways to work out joint venture partnerships with colleagues?

I’m offering a workshop with another business in my area. We agreed to split the profits 50/50, but I’ve been doing most of the work and I’m starting to feel resentful.

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer questions about the fastest way to get traffic to one's website, how to get clients who come to massage therapy for an injury to continue massage treatments as a preventative measure, and whether we recommend using video as a marketing tool.

Questions Answered in This Episode

  1. Mike - I am planning on starting a new blog on nutrition. I’m wondering what is the fastest way to get traffic to my site and build my email list?

  2. Darlee Ann - www. dmathieson.com

In my sports & therapeutic massage practice, about 90 percent of my clients come to me initially with a specific problem. We set a course of treatment usually in combination with another health care professional.

My challenge is once my client has recovered from their injury or problem, that is usually the end of the relationship and they don't book in again even if I do a follow up email or two afterwards to see how they are doing.

How can I reconnect with old clients and enlighten them that therapeutic massage is about preventative care and that they should be booking in regardless if they have an injury or not. Thanks Juliet & Clinton for your response in advance. Love your show!

  1. Francine - It seems that video is growing online. Do you recommend using video -- I guess you might since you have a video show, ha ha… What are some ways that I might market my therapy practice with video focused on trauma. It’s a heavy topic so I don’t want to scare people away.

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton ask questions about how to get referrals from past clients, whether it's a good idea to put a pop-up subscribe box on one's website and what is the best way to stand out with your competitors, especially when you offer better services or products.

Questions Answered in This Episode

  1. Rodney Bloke - www.blokesupport.com.au A lot of my clients come from Google, including Adwords, but I'd love to get more clients coming from referrals from past clients. What can I do to get more people referring to me and have those people actually make contact?

  2. Dylan - I am wondering if I should put a pop-up subscribe box on my site? What are the benefits of doing so? I want to increase subscribers, but I don’t want to alienate people.

  3. Kayla - I own a yoga studio and am having trouble filling my classes. There are 2 other larger yoga studios in my area who market heavily and are well known. I do some direct mail marketing with postcards to businesses and residents in the community and have a website. But, that is all the marketing I’ve done.

I think my classes are better than my competitors and here’s why: my teachers are better trained, many of them studied in India with leading teachers, our fees are a bit less, we have more options for membership, we have 1 hour and 1.5 hours classes, and our studio is beautiful. In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer questions on what to say to referral sources about your business to help ensure clients come for therapy, what to do when you become overwhelmed with marketing, what to do to balance private practice work with community service, and the best email marketing software available.

The following questions were answered in this episode.

  1. Monica:

Part 1: I contacted doctors so they could get to know me and hopefully refer me as a psychologist – but what happens is that their patients need therapy, the doctors do the referral, but the clients simply don’t come for therapy.

A Dentista and a doctor asked what should they to their patients so they understand that it is crucial for them to take that first step of going to therapy?

Part 2: Another quite similar question is: How (and what) do I teach other professionals so they can be successful referrers? I have doctors calling me saying that I should receive a call from their patient who they referred to me, and then their patient doesn’t call.

This happens repeatedly with a lot of professionals that I have made contact with. The professionals tell the person they need therapy, but this is not enough for the patient to make the first contact for therapy. What else should I tell referrers about my services to increase referrals?

  1. Tammy: I feel overwhelmed with marketing.

There is too much to do, and I don’t have time. What should I do?

  1. Francine: I am a very community-minded person, so am a bit in conflict with my values as far as a decision to work privately as a therapist. However, I am committed to my decision and recognize you can’t have everything in a job. Nevertheless, could you speak to ways that private practice practitioners can connect to larger community/organizations/issues, etc., so as not to feel isolated only working in the private sphere?
  2. Carolyn: What is the best software for email marketing?

In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer questions on how to get starting marketing, the best steps to take after launching a website, how to compete with newer and younger therapists when you are an older, established therapist, and how to rank higher in Google.

The following questions were answered in this episode:

  1. Treona: I would love to hear your advice about what to do after the website is live….what are ways to spread the word or what are ways drive traffic to the website?

Doug: Although I have already started down the marketing route and I have business cards, postcards, letterheads, a website including blogging, Facebook page etc., With all of that in place and behind them, where would you advocate a counsellor’s proactive marketing should start? I tend to be (I think), reasonable at design and planning, but pushing myself over the edge beyond passive efforts requires something more.

Michelle: There is so much to do and so many ways to market & then you get all this conflicting information from everywhere. For someone just starting out or someone who’s been in business a while, but still has a small following and budget – what needs to be focused on first? Where should I put all my attention? (besides build the list I mean lol). What would be wise to spend money on and what can I do myself until later?

  1. “How can an older, more experienced therapist, who is running a private practice in a very therapist saturated area of an urban American city, and who commands higher fees to respect their length and depth of experience, compete with younger and “hungrier”, new therapists who offer below-market or managed care HMO fees just to “get” clients to complete their clinical hours in competing private practices, when many potential clients are shopping around for therapists just based on who will offer them the lowest fee? Despite having a specific niche of expertise, I have decades of experience on younger therapists whose practices are fuller than mine!
  2. Karen: How come people rank higher than me in Google?

The following questions were answered in this episode.

  2. Helen: I’ve guest blogged on a popular website which was very exciting for me. The blog received 88 Facebook likes, which was a huge number for me and the most I had ever achieved on any of my blogs by far.I had a session with a social media specialist who helped tweak things on the site. The person noticed that while the blog was very popular, all the hits went to the site itself, and I received no benefit other than credit of authorship. She suggested that I could request for any future work to have a direct link to my site to read the majority of the post, with a teaser for future blogs. What are your thoughts about this? Is there a specific blogger etiquette I need to know about?
  3. Daniela: What are the first page MUST haves on a website?
  4. Tricia: I work with a lot of different groups of people. I want to start a blog. What should I write about?
