Ms. Rosa Santana has worked in three different industries, from graphic design to higher education. In highlighting the different aspects of her career, you gain an understanding that your career journey may not be a straight path. She loves helping professionals, from early career to seasoned professionals with employment advice. She guides her students on how to advocate for themselves.
As the Director of Career Planning and Development, she gets to help college students at Wagner College find the path that leads to their ideal job, whether an internship or full-time position upon graduation. She assists her students with translating their past experiences into an opportunity for their future growth. She reaches out on her students’ behalf to find job prospects and presents them to her students for follow-up.
Now, that is what student advocacy looks like.
She states, "When I encounter high school students, I tell them one of the first things they need to do as a freshman is visit the career services department and meet the individuals who work there." This allows them to learn more about you. So when opportunities arise, your career counselor can advocate for you. This translates with your career beyond college. Learn who the key members are in your organization and create an opportunity to meet them – from your direct management team to those who may be multiple levels above them. It pays to network.
Tatarsha Harris is a domestic litigator with over 20 years of experience. She concentrates her practice in the areas of domestic and family law. She looks at her work as a posture of service. Most spouses interested in pursuing a divorce are not ready to be on their own. That’s why she tells her clients to know your finances. She stresses the importance of building a team that includes a therapist, CPA, financial planner, and attorney to support you during this major life discission.
Recently there has been a drastic increase in gray divorce, where individuals over 50, in long lasting relationships, decide to end their marriage. When making a major decision around ending a relationship with a spouse, you want to ensure you have the right representation. The most notable approach to divorce is litigation. However, there are other methods such as mutual consent, mediation, and collaborative. Attorney Harris values a collaborative approach to ending the marriage. The collaborative divorce is a method of negotiating a divorce settlement outside of court. The two parties reach an agreement on each aspect of the divorce contract, including child custody, visitation, and financial assets. The benefit is the separating parties set the terms instead of the court and resolution happens quicker.
