On Episode 10, Larry Foley, A founding member of the bands, The Punters and The 8-Track Favourites, joins Dave to chat all about his career in Music. With the rapidly growing popularity of east coast music in the 90's, Larry discusses signing with a record label and jumping headfirst into his music career. Always with a quick witted joke, Foley talks openly about his run at politics, his friendship with Newfoundland songwriting legend, Ron Hynes, his TV show, This Old Guitar, and successfully maintaining a solid solo career.

On this episode, Vicky Foley joins Dave to chat all about her roles as a social media manager for local film and entertainment companies. After working on the oil sands in Alberta for a few years after high school, Vicky moved back to NL and studied Marketing at the College of the North Atlantic. Now she is the social media manager for the very popular CBC hit show ‘Son of a Critch’ and works with Andrew Barnsley the executive producer for ‘Schitts Creek’. His production company Project 10 produces Son of a Critch, Kids in the Hall, and This is Jann. Vicky breaks down the importance of social media in this day and age and offers up some tips for better engagement. On top of this Vicky is also a salt of the earth human and has you laughing at her quick one liners and enthusiastic charm. On episode 8, Dave is joined by Justin Hawco, creator of the very popular Outhouse videos. The Outhouse is a comedy group who film satire skits about all things Newfoundland and Labrador. Justin stopped by to chat all about starting up his YouTube channel with the Newfoundland Vs. Series, creating over 300 videos and handfuls of different characters, and then turning it all into “The Outhouse TV”. Included in the chat about writing, filming, shooting, and editing, Justin talks about collaborating with Rum Ragged for a music video that garnered a musicNL award for Video of the year, as well as their collaboration with the Quidi Vidi Brewery and the Outhouse Home-brew Session Lager, all of this and a ton more with the creator of one of Newfoundland’s funniest content creators.

On Episode 7, Dave is joined by Americana Folk band, Quote the Raven. This Newfoundland based duo made up of Jordan Coaker and Kirsten Rodden-Clarke stopped by to chat about their recent ECMA award for Contemporary Roots Recording of the Year and their live performance at the ECMA awards show. Fresh off their latest release "Can't Hold the Light", Quote the Raven broke down the recording and writing process' of the new full length album, the benefits of co-writing, and whats on the schedule for this busy summer season.

Photographer, Sandra-Lee Layden joins Dave on Episode 6 to chat all about her career as a music and lifestyle photographer. Born and raised in Dildo, NL, she now calls Toronto, ON. homebase. Sandra talks about recent touring with JJ Wilde who opened for the Glorious Sons, shooting her favourite music festivals in Newfoundland, as well as all the other types of photography she offers to clients. This is an absolutely great insight into what an average day looks like for a professional photographer.

On Episode 5, Brad Dunne joins Dave to chat all about his new novel The Merchant's Mansion. Brad has been working as a freelance writer and editor since 2013. His work explores Newfoundland and Labrador's culture and history through horror and Gothic fiction. He has published three novels (After Dark Vapours, The Gut, and most recently The Merchant's Mansion). His non-fiction has been published in national publications like the Literary Review of Canada, Maisonneuve, and The Walrus. Brad discusses the role of a publisher, where he draws inspiration for his novels, and offers up some advice to aspiring authors. Dan George joins Dave this week to chat all about his career as a professional drummer based out of St. John's, NL. The Dave Whitty Show is back for season 2 thanks to Lambs Rum! On Episode 1 season 2, Dave has local singer/songwriter and member of the band Fairgale, Andrew Rodgers. Andrew is currently in studio finishing off the latest Fairgale album and is also working on his first solo album. An incredible talent, Andrew talks about some of the songwriting and recording processes and also discusses his new weekly live-stream. Dave warmed up his new rapid fire questions segment to finish off the chat so listen in to see if Andrew likes pineapple on pizza.

On episode 28, Dave is joined by local singer/songwriter Brad Tuck. Fresh off the release of his latest single, The Red Violin, Brad stopped by to chat about the origin of the song, the production, the video and all the things that go into putting out a new single. Also, the drummer for Newfoundland folk band, Shanneyganock and rockers Fairgale, Brad discussed juggling all those different gigs and keeping up with his own solo work. A die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Dave also has to get Brad's take on all things Leafs.

On Episode 26, Dave is joined by local chef, Nick King. Nick is the owner of a small business called Ollie's Pasta in which he specializes in different pastas. Ollie's is sold in many local markets and vendors around St. John's and Nick talks about some of the struggles he dealt with during the Covid - 19 pandemic. Faced with shortage in work in the restaurant industry, Nick brought his valuable experience to Choices For Youth where he is involved in many programs.

On episode 25, Dave is joined by Zach O'Brien & Marcus Power to discuss their professional hockey careers. 2 St. John's natives who grew up in Newfoundland minor hockey chat about all things hockey including playing in the QMJHL, winning the Kelly Cup with the Newfoundland Growlers in the teams inaugural season, celebrating the championship with their friends and family at home, and deciding to play in the DEL2 league in Germany when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down hockey in North America. The 2 also discuss what hockey means to Newfoundlanders and whats in store for the 21/22 season.

On episode 23, Tony Murray joins Dave to chat about his life in live music production. Tony has been an integral member of the engine that keeps live music going in St. John's. While you may not see or hear Tony's name on the bill of a show, you can almost always guarantee Tony has a part in it. Tony stopped by to chat about producing the last 2 ECMA's under covid lockdown, the musicNL awards, and the Shanneygannock covid drive in shows. Tony who also books shows for St. John's venues - the Ship Inn Pub and the Rockhouse discusses the bar scene coming back after covid. Of course knowing Tony is a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan, Dave asks a few questions regarding the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

On Episode 22, Dave is joined by Maria Cherwick, A violin and fiddle player raised in the prairies who now calls Newfoundland her home. Maria and Dave have a great chat about her moving out to NL, her bands The Kubasonics, Flower Hill, and Jockey Special. Along with a whole bunch of conversation Maria also discusses performing and working for the dialed back 2021 NL Folk Festival as well as her brand new collection of sheet music and ilustrations for original fiddle tunes that is accompanied by a CD called 'Home From Away'. On Episode 21, Dave welcomes his first multi-person interview with Adam Hunt and Travis Reid of the Wood Shed. A brand new business set to open at the end of the summer, The Wood Shed is a new and exciting hearth and specialty barbecue store offering quality fireplace products and installation services in St. John's, NL. The guys talk about some of the services they will be providing out of their brand new store front as well as the products they will be offering in the fall.

On episode 20, Dave is joined by Mark Manning of the Juno nominated Newfoundland traditional folk bank, Rum Ragged. Mark stopped by to talk about what the band has been doing to keep busy during Covid- 19 and whats in the store for upcoming events. A Cape Shore native, Mark discussed growing up in St. Bride's and how his surroundings and a special teacher gave him a love for traditional music. Dave also pulled a few answers out of Mark about interesting trips he has been on with the band including 1 where they got stuck in the Torngat Mountains in northern Labrador and having to take a speed boat down the coast of the Labrador Sea to get back to St. John's and headline the NL Folk Festival. Mark breaks down what a Juno nomination meant for the band and talks about who some of his biggest musical influences are. This and a whole lot more!

Many will recognize Mike from his sketches with The Outhouse, Best Kind Comedy Tour, his own shows Getting To Know Me or simply from his characters Cecil O’Brien, Randy Lee, and Nan. One of the funniest Newfoundlanders, Mike chatted about what he’s been doing to keep busy during Covid, upcoming tours, and where his many characters from The Outhouse came from. Mike also talks about starring as all the women from the Rum Ragged video for Ladies Man and a whole lot more.

On episode 18 Dave is joined by writer and producer Nik Sexton. A Newfoundlander who has spent the better part of his life on the mainland, Nik has worked on The Rick Mercer Report, Canada’s Worst Driver, and more recently This Hour has 22 minutes. Nik was kind enough to join Dave to chat about the years on those shows, and creating the hilarious Donnie Dumphy sketches which blossomed into a feature film “How To Be Deadly”. In more recent times, Nik directed a documentary about his grandmother and family titled “Me, Mom, and Covid”. A 33 minutes film which talks about his grandmother, Sara Sexton’s passing, and the initiate portrayal into her unwavering compassion for Nik’s eldest aunt, Edwina. Nik also chatted about the 8 weeks he spent south of the border covering the US election in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, as well as some of new projects he’s working on for the Tokyo Olympics and a new feature film titled “Skeet”
On Episode 17, Dave is joined by Gillian Phillips of Gingerly plant based bakery and the Trinity Market. When making the choice to go full plant based, Gill decided she needed to figure out how to prepare meals and snacks for herself which sparked her bakery, Gingerly. This transitioned into looking for somewhere for her to make her products available to customers so she started up The Trinity Market. A local vendor market that happens in downtown St. John’s every second Sunday, the Market has grown to host a number of small vendors alike and makes for a great place to check out on a Sunday afternoon and support local. Gill also hosts a number of vegan pop-up’s at different restaurant.

Dave is joined this week by country artist Justin Fancy. After releasing his debut album Long Time Comin' in the middle of a pandemic Justin was forced to push through and keep promoting the album. Fancy describes his writing processes, his approach to the production side of the songs and some of the virtual events he has been a part of since the release. After years of slugging it out in the cover scene in St. John's, Justin decided to gamble on himself and finally put together an album of original material. Also, a leafs fan, Dave had to ask about some NHL action as well.
Dave chats about some upcoming shows, a central Newfoundland covid outbreak, and relaxing on May 2-4. Also, some brief commentary on NHL playoffs, the Toronto Blue Jays, and Phil Mickelson taking down the PGA championship.

Dave welcomed Greg Bruce to the podcast this week. Greg is a multidisciplinary artist-researcher, saxophone ecxtrodiinare, composer, break dancer, and teacher. Currently splitting his time between Ontario, where he studies at the University of Toronto, and Newfoundland and Labrador, Greg jumped on to talk about his life in music, from touring with the award winning folk/funk/jazz instrumental group, Ouroboros, completing his masters degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland, working as the president of the AFM/CFM Local 820, and a ton more including how Greg got his start playing saxophone.
Dave gives a weekly rundown on what he's been up to musically, and gives a in depth analysis on the first round of the NHL playoffs. ( go leafs go!)
Dave welcomes local singer/songwriter Clare Follett to the podcast this week. Clare came on to talk about her latest release "Reclemation" that she wrote and recorded after cancelling the majority of touring plans as the bass player with Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts. Releasing her sophomore album at only 18, Clare talked about the recording process being different from her first album "Neck Deep". Dave also asked about growing up in the age of streaming as well as working on a music degree in the middle of a pandemic.

This week, Dave welcomes Brent McNamara, an entrepreneur and event planner to to discuss his business Brent Mac Events and some of the festivals, shows, and events he's involved with throughout Newfoundland. After starting BME right out of high school, Brent has since put off some of the biggest events in Atlantic Canada. A true entrepreneur, Brent has a real charm and an experienced drive. Brents chats about mapping out and tour managing the Best Kind Comedy Tour with Mike Lynch, Colin Hollett, and Brian Aylward, as well as as putting off the Jibfest Weekender every winter in Corner Brook, NL.

Dave is joined by Greg smith this week to discuss his life as a media personality in Newfoundland & Labrador. Greg hosts several different weekly shows including the VOCM Irish NL Show, Kixx Country Potluck, Homebrew on Bigland Labrador’s FM, and VOCM drive on weekday afternoons. An incredible volunteer in the community, Greg discusses some of the events he is involved in such as the telethon host for the Janeway Children's Hospital Foundation and the VOCM cares happy tree concert. A 5 time MusicNL nominee ( 3 time winner ) and 3 time ECMA nominee for Media person of the year, Greg breaks down the week of Snowmageddon where him and his colleagues had to sleep in studio over a couple days and working long hours to bring the news of the Snowstorm. Dave also picked Greg's brain on a little NHL coverage and chats about some of the big name interviews he's had including Ray Bourque, Gordon Lightfoot and K.D Lang.

He stopped by to chat about his former bands as well as his current project with Nick Earle and The Reckless Hearts. Nick gives some interesting insight into the world of streaming music as a person who has grown up right in the middle of the digital age and talks about some of his favourite Canadian acts.

Mark goes through the vigorous process and preparation to scale the 8,849m Mountain and talks about the 7 week process to reach the summit.

She designs custom clothing for clients alongside her own creations, and has quickly made a name for herself with some big name clients in the Canadian music scene.
