I was talking to a leader in my old Corporate job and she was sharing with me that even with her doing all the right things, she still wasn't being seen as a leader.

She did the trainings. Was nominated to be the lead on important projects. Her team loved her.

So she did what a lot of us do, she started looking at what other people were doing to see what she was missing.

Here's the thing. She was a good leader...maybe even great.

But she made some key mistakes.

Common mistakes that I see a lot of my clients make too.

Today on the podcast I’m sharing the 5 mistakes I see good leaders make and what to do instead.

Regardless of level, this episode will help you be more successful in your career.

This week I'm bringing back one of my post popular episodes with an update of the impact this framework has had now that it has been available for over a year! I hear time and time again from individual contributors and managers alike:
My 1-1 is not a good use of time (if they are happening at all). Get ready to feel empowered to have the 1-1s you want with this episode.

Last week's episode was all about the power of meditation. This week you are in for a treat. I am guiding you through a meditation that will help you process and accept any emotions that you have that are causing you stress, anxiety, or keeping you down.

Especially now, with the holidays around the corner, stress can be high.

Many people use a control strategy for their emotions - meaning they try to shove them down, distract themselves with alcohol, food, shopping, TV, rather than allow the emotion to be processed.

Use this meditation as often as you need to practice allowing your emotions to exist without controlling them.

The beginning of this episode features an explanation and how to prepare for this session.
Then there is a 7 minute meditation you can use anytime.

Enjoy.

It’s here! Day 3 of the Career Passion Blueprint masterclass!

In this episode, we’re diving into the most important piece of creating your unique blueprint and discovering what your ideal career is...

Your mindset.

Managing your mindset is the foundation that lets everything else happen.

Believe it or not, your brain is operating 90% in your subconscious.

That means that less than 10% is your conscious mind. That part of your brain that you think is guiding you, really isn’t.

So, your social conditioning from your upbringing, society, media and past experiences can work against you without you even realizing it.

I’m not telling you this to make your brain into an enemy.

You have to love your brain. It makes you you. It's there to protect you. It is doing its job.

You just have to learn to identify when it's not helping you and it's actually working against you, so you can know when you should move forward, when you should make a change, and when you shouldn't.

I’m also sharing some case studies of how my Career Passion Blueprint framework has been used by others so you can really see how you can apply this in your own life.

If you’re ready to create your blueprint and take action on your dreams, this is the episode for you!

You’ll Learn:

The 3 factors that motivate your brain

How to identify when your brain is not helping you and what to do about it

Common pitfalls and mistakes

Why what you think is the answer probably isn’t the answer at all

This episode is the second in a 3-part series. You’ll hear Day 2 of my Career Passion Blueprint Masterclass.

In case you missed the first day’s training, you’ll find the link to that episode below, under “Featured in this Episode.”

I’m sharing my own 4 step framework for understanding where you are now, who you really are (deep down), looking at patterns and options and making a decision and a plan for where you go next.

This process, this framework, is grounded in psychology, in neuroscience, in everything I've learned in my career so far.

It is based on my own experience of figuring this out for myself, my years in corporate America developing talent and leading a network of women, going through a coaching certification, getting a master's degree and applying it with hundreds of people.

It is unique and it works.

There’s a reason the generic assessments and DIY methods just didn’t work for you. This is what you need.

No matter what questions you have about your future and what's possible for you, you can have whatever your destiny is, and you can figure out what that is with this process.

Press play to get started now.

What You’ll Learn:

My 4 step framework for deciding what’s next in your career (and in life)

How your brain is holding you back and keeping you stuck

How to find the clues to who you really are, not just who you’ve been conditioned to be

Last month I delivered a masterclass series, Career Passion Blueprint, that helped so many people change the way they thought about their career and what is possible for them.

It was so good that I was asked to offer it again.

So I decided to put the series on the podcast, so you are getting the first day of the training right here, right now.

Never before have I provided so much value and a step by step framework that I use with my clients, shared the common pitfalls and helped you create a blueprint for your career.

Over three episodes of the podcast, I’m sharing the entire series with you.

What if you could...

  • Make a bigger impact?
  • Feel excited to go to work
  • Stop snapping at your loved ones because you were stressed from a hard day of doing things you don't enjoy?
  • Stop convincing yourself to settle?

You likely don't know what you want yet, not for sure. But there is something that you want to feel.

In this episode, we are going to dive into what is possible for you. You are going to create a vision and I’m guiding you through an exercise that will help you determine what your next step should be.

The way you want to feel - whether it be happy, confident, loved, fulfilled, enough. It's possible.

The impact you want to have in your community and your life is possible.

The relationship that you want to have is possible.

That voice in your head that’s telling you there is more out there for you…

It’s there for a reason.

You’ll Learn:

What is possible for you and how to let go of the doubt

I’ve got the secret to better work life balance (but you might not like what you have to do to get it).

Tell me if you’ve been here...

You check your email late in the afternoon or evening so that you don't miss something.

You see a last-minute request coming in.

It stresses you out.

You don't even think of not doing it.

You just get stressed and irritated that you have to.

Then you work that night or go in early the next day, or you stress yourself about all of these things you need to do to make it work.

This is why work life balance is such a hot topic. It seems everyone aspires to this magical time where you have balance between your career and your home life.

When you look back at your life, you want to know that you spent time with your family, that you did what you enjoyed and that you had standards and expectations.

Not that you were always catering to everyone else and complaining why you didn't have control over your own schedule.

There will always be people that make their life their career and work all the time.

But if you don't want that to be you, you don't have to just because others are.

YOU get to decide what’s important.

And when challenges arise, you also get to choose how you respond to and handle them.

You get to decide every. step. of. the. way.

It’s possible to be less stressed, feel in control of your own time, be more productive and have more energy.

Press play to learn how.

You’ll Learn:

The secret to creating better work life balance

Why you actually don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to do

Tips for setting boundaries around your work (and why they’re so important - even sexy)

What you’re really saying when you put others’ needs above your own

How you’ve been helping others set expectations for you (and how you can change them)

In this episode, the tables are turned… It’s the one where I get interviewed (any Friends fans here?).

This is a very special episode.

I can’t believe it but it has already been one year of the Navigating Your Career podcast.

Every week I’ve been pouring my heart and expertise into delivering a show that helps you get happier, be more you, and overcome work challenges so you can live the life you want to have.

For this anniversary episode, I decided to let my children run the show.

Yep. They’ve been asking me to come on and interview me….for you.

And so, I have some special co-hosts this week - my son and daughter will be calling the shots and putting me in the hot seat.

They came up with some deep questions I didn’t expect! They wouldn’t let me see them ahead of time and their questions and insights blew me away.

They are not messing around!

You’ll learn the things they think you should know about the work I do but also my guilty pleasure and what I’m really like in my “natural habitat” (as they say).

But don’t worry, I get to turn the questions around on them, too.

This was so fun for us to record and I hope it’s fun and inspiring for you to hear.

What You’ll Learn:

How I knew a coaching business was the perfect path for me

What I learned that changed my life

How I balance business and mom life

The key to making the world a better place (IMHO)

My advice for people who want to make a big leap in their lives… and for my 18-year-old self.

You know when you need to make a decision and you just can't decide?

It's like you almost get analysis paralysis with all of the different options.

You don't want to make the wrong one.

Or you do decide, but then you're questioning if you made the right decision, so you spend more time thinking about the decision that you've already made.

Or maybe something happened and you just can’t stop thinking about it.

You’re stuck dwelling on the past or worried about the future.

Overthinking is human.

Truth be told, I am in recovery of being a classic over thinker.

I know this - it is a behavior that isn't serving you and can even be negatively impacting your health.

Overthinking relationships, career choices, who you are, what you can have in your life, what you did or didn’t do... it's not helping you.

The problem with overthinking is the more you overthink, the more you overthink.

So let’s make it easy - in this episode of the podcast I am going to break down what overthinking is, why it’s a problem (and you may not realize just how much it is), and how to overcome it.

So you can break the cycle and become a master at living in the moment and quick decisions.

Tune in to episode 51 now.

What You’ll Learn:

How overthinking comes up related to the past, present and future

The effects of a negative thought pattern, like overthinking

The connection between overthinking, stress and even physical health

How overthinking stops you from living how you want to

Maybe you like your job but know there is more for you…

Maybe you never intentionally chose your career, it just made sense or kinda happened (I hear this a lot) and now you’re wondering if you did choose, what would your perfect career be?!

You don’t want to make a move unless you know it is the right one.

But how do you actually know if the next job or opportunity is the right one?

How do you know you won’t make the move and end up just as miserable?

On today’s episode of the podcast, I am answering these questions.

I’m willing to bet you don’t even know the possibilities that are out there.

So if you’re ready to answer this question - what is your perfect career? Hit play now.

And if you take nothing else from this episode know this:

You can be happier than you are right now.

It's not just for other people. It's for you.

The impact you want to have, the lifestyle you want to live, the type of work you want to do - it is all possible.

You’ll Learn:

Why you can't rely on what you’ve done in the past to know what your perfect career is

I hear time and time again from individual contributors and managers alike:
My 1-1 is not a good use of time (if they are happening at all).

You end up only talking about project work, deadlines or chit-chatting about nothing that is actually important.

You have things you actually need to talk about but there doesn’t seem to be time or you don’t know how to bring it up.

Or maybe you want to make sure these meetings are engaging for your team but they always seem to fall flat.

You get frustrated.  They get frustrated.

On today’s podcast I am sharing with you my perfect 1-1 framework.

I’m telling you exactly, what the agenda should look like for your 1-1s.

You’ll learn:

The 3 types of 1-1s you should be having and how to hold them.

How to “manage up” to start using this framework with your boss.

If you’ve ever had a 1-1 and you walked away thinking “that was a waste of time” or “that didn’t go well” or you want to make sure any 1-1 you hold in the future is effective, you need to listen to this episode.
