As we near the end of the school year, it is time to reflect on our coaching and decide what went well and what we can utilize for next year. However, there will likely be some methods and practices that should not make the trip into next year. Rather they should end or perish with the finish of the school year. With us today is Jon Smith from BookCreator, who is going to talk more about how the death of certain edtech practices is actually a good thing for our coaching.

As instructional coaches, we sometimes work in specific grade level buildings. Other times we are serving the entire district, including all grade level bands. It can be a mystery in what edtech strategies we should implore in the elementary buildings. However, our littles are excited to learn and use technology, so we need to work with our teachers to get them using it! And that is exactly what a coach and teacher duo have been doing here in southwest Ohio! So let’s talk with Sarah Kiefer and Brittney Priore on ideas for allowing our elementary students to use more edtech in their learning!

Often, we know where we want to end up. We know that we want to lose weight, learn a new language, or pay off our debt. However, as time goes on we find ourselves engaging in the same routines with little progress to that ambitious “someday we’ll get there” goal. The same is true in coaching. Whether it is integrating technology effectively, mastering a new literacy program, or building a culture of innovation- we often start with the best of intentions and slip off the wagon sometime between 2nd & 3rd quarter. This episode explores a few strategic ways that instructional coaches can use targeted goal-setting to crush their personal coaching goals AND the larger goals of the school or district they support.

Coaches work with a very diverse set of educators. Not only do coaches take into account the experience levels, content areas, and general backgrounds of educators, they might want to start considering an entirely new variable…. Generational differences. Educators make up a pool of very different generational representation- Millennials, Gen X’ers, and Baby Boomers. This episode we're talking with Ben Sondgeroth to explore how coaches can better understand the needs and values of each generation to build their capacity for effective technology integration.
