When a demon-possessed man near the Sea of Galilee gets freed from his demon, he asks if he can follow Jesus on His journey, but Jesus says no. That's right - Jesus says no. But this man turns back and tells everyone in the town what Jesus had done for him. Instead of being bogged down by a "no," he focuses on the "yes." The greatest act of worship is trusting God even when He says no.

It's tempting to look at the story of Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee and assume that Jesus will calm any storm in your life. Any headache? Despair? Anxiety? Grief? Yes, Jesus can calm it, but that doesn't mean He will. The disciples were afraid because they didn't realize that Jesus, God in the flesh, was in the boat with them. Four lepers in 2 Kings 6 used God's blessing in their lives to turn around and bless others. They had been mistreated, looked down upon, but instead of holding resentment in their hearts, they shared God's blessing with others. When Elijah chose Elisha to be his apprentice and the next prophet of God, Elisha left everything behind. He burned all of his wealth and fed the whole town with a BBQ of his oxen. When God calls us to be His followers, we likewise must leave everything behind to pursue Him. There is no safety in following Jesus. Rather, we must deny ourselves and take up our cross to walk with Jesus.

Peter, a disciple of Jesus, failed several times throughout the Gospel. He didn't trust Jesus enough to be able to walk out on the water, he questions Jesus' plan to die for the sins of the world, and he even denies his faith in front of Jesus. Despite his shortcomings, Peter's failures don't define him. The love of Jesus defines him, and the cross proves it.

We've reached the end of our Peeled series! While some may call it crazy to spend nine weeks on two verses in Galatians, we think it was just right. In a culture that lives to satisfy its fleshly desires, Craig talks today about taking up our own cross to follow Jesus. Craig didn't necessarily look forward to preaching on gentleness, but God moved him and tugged on his heart in a unique way as he prepared for this week's message. God uses gentleness to reach people and restore relationships. In a world of opposition and divide, people don't respond to anger. God is good, even when there's nothing good in me. As we continue in our series called 'Peeled', Craig talks about God's goodness and it is produced in our lives. God has, is being, and will forever be good to us, and our faith in Him opens us up to the fruit of the goodness of His Spirit. Our prayer is that you leave this sermon with a greater understanding of how to spot God's goodness anywhere you go, even in the small things, so that then His goodness can live in and through you.
