CCL Preview

Format The Season will have 2 splits with 180 teams in the league Split 1- The teams will compete in a round robin format and at the end of the first split the teams will be ranked accordingly. After rankings they will be placed in the top cut and bottom cut based on their rankings. Split 2- Teams will compete in another round robin against teams in their cut, they did not play prior. Split 2 standings will be divided into Top and Bottom Cut for each region Playoffs- Playoffs will have 64 total teams with 8 form each region Prizing-1st- $12,500, 2nd- $6,250, 3rd- $3,125, 4th- $1562.50, 5-8th- $390.62

CLOL Preview

Schools will be placed into two divisions based on their five highest-rated players Solo-Queue division and tier.

We have the “fixed 64 school” Shurima Division And the Bilgewater Division Both of these teams will “play a best-of-one group stage into a 16-team best-of-five playoff bracket over four weekends”

Level Next Preview

The Level Next Madden National Championship is BACK. Madden 22 will be played. Registration is currently ongoing and is open to college students from more than 2,500 schools across the nation. Registration will close on October 10. There will be a collective prize pool of $150,000. Of this prize, $50,000 of it will be awarded directly to 20 campus esports programs through a competition hosted on Twitter.

Chess League

The collegiate Chess League is back and it’s bigger than ever. Colleges from the United States, Mexico, Canada, Russia, India, France, and more are competing this season.

HUE Invitational

The team breaks down what happened this past weekend during the HUEfest HUE Invitational at Harrisburg University.

HBCU Esports

The HBCU League started in August and have been having a weekly game being played, mainly NBA 2k. It began on Aug. 18, 2021, and will conclude on April 6, 2022, featuring 25 HBCUs that will compete in Madden and NBA2K.

Collegiate Overwatch Reschedule

On September 8, 2021, Activision Blizzard came under fire from Overwatch collegiate teams after releasing a last-minute schedule that placed numerous matches in the middle of Friday school days for many players in the Pacific time zone. The Collegiate Overwatch Homecoming tournament starts on October 1st

Crunchyroll Collegiate Esports Involvement

Crunchyroll announced a partnership with the St. Clair Saints, the first varsity esports program in Canada, on August 23, 2021. This marks the first time that Crunchyroll has partnered with a collegiate varsity program.

Florida Tech Esports Facility

Florida Tech has launched its brand new Esports Facility! This was officially announced on August 25, 2021. Throughout the upcoming years, schools involved with collegiate esports have successfully found funding to create a home for collegiate esports players. They have a Competitive Stage, a PC Cafe, and allegedly have (over) 40 games for you to play. Similarly, there is a set space for gamers to have their own desktop and monitor- a personal gaming space for all of our players!

Adam Antor, Director of Esports for Florida Southern College

Firend of the show, Adam Antor is not the new Director of Esports for Florida Southern College. We talk to him about the new position and what to expect from the College Esports Teams.

Kings Guard Gaming Esports Invitational

Kings Guard, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, teamed up with College Esports International (CESI) to host Inaugural Collegiate Esports Competition with a prize pool of $30K

Tribe Gaming and Razer Scholarship Program

Tribe Gaming and Razer are partnering together to launch a $10,000 scholarship program. They will award an enrolled college student in the U.S. with a “passion for gaming and esports.” Every month a $1000 scholarship will be rewarded and will run for ten months. To apply one should go to tribegaming.gg/scholarships

CLoL 2022 Updates, 2021 Fall Invitational, and more!

College League of Legends is back for another season! RSAA, the Riot Scholastic Association of America, has announced some up-and-coming news for our collegiate League of Legends teams! The first big event is the 2021 Fall Invitational. This will be held online with no cap on participation and competition size! This will not connect to the main College season!

HBCU Esports League Season 2

The HBCU (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) Esports League is back for its second season and this year they have partnered with Cxmmunity, Verizon, Twitch, and Discover. The 22-week schedule to be aired on Twitch.tv/cxmmunity will begin on Aug. 18, 2021 at 7:00 PM EST, and conclude on April 6, 2022.

Division II Esports

Launch Esports will be bringing infrastructure and broadcasting for select Division II, Division III, NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference), Mid-South Conference, Conference Carolinas, Sooner Athletic Conference, and Red River Athletic Conference

The NCAA approved a temporary policy to allow college athletes in all three divisions to get paid for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL). The barebones idea is that the interim policy allows student-athletes to engage in NIL activities that are consistent with the law of the state where their school is located, with the extension of students who attend states with no NIL laws to also be able to engage in this activity without violating NCAA rules related to NIL. Will this lead to the NCAA putting interest into Esports?

NACE has announced a multi-company partnership with CSL Esports, Nerd Street (North America’s largest esports infrastructure company) and Mainline, the leading software company in collegiate esports, to establish NACE Starleague. The inaugural Level Next Rocket League Spring Showcase Championship concluded this past weekend and Akron came out on top of the tournament. While the in-game competition didn’t differ much from typical CRL competitions, the presentation, production, and, most importantly, the bracketing were very different from CRL.

The Canadian Collegiate Esports League has been announced as well as its first tournament which is Rocket League.

The CCEL is made up of twelve schools: University of Manitoba, University of Victoria, University of Windsor, Dalhousie University, Holland College, Mount Royal University, York University, McGill University, Simon Fraser University, University of Regina, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, University of Lethbridge and University of British Columbia Okanagan

With the CLoL quarterfinals, the remaining eight teams are expected to outshine their previous matches Toronto v Bethany: An equal match-up, both teams play offensively around the map, and they pick champions to which they can easily scale with Maryville v Columbia: One of the most exciting match-ups. Both of these teams show a lot of promise, however, Maryville is infamously undefeated in League. Columbia is the underdog here, as they focus on good trades and patience Winthrop v Buffalo: A personal favorite. Winthrop is nothing but spontaneous with their gameplay, they don’t settle with regular combinations, they adapt. Buffalo is a powerhouse with surprises up its sleeves. Harrisburg v Illinois State: Another well anticipated game. Harrisburg is known to crush nearly all of their opponents, but Illinois does not back down from a fight. Illinois is seemingly unmatched against Harrisburg, but from their previous matches, Illinois has no trouble grouping together to finish their objectives and opponents. Teams like Buffalo and Columbia have everything to prove since they are the only two who have been voted in Teams like Maryville and Harrisburg have to maintain their champion-esque reputation Teams like Winthrop, Toronto, and Illinois have a well-adapted team that simply enjoy what they love to do -- compete! Overall, the teams are well balanced and the match-ups create a clear line between who is the underdog and who is the fan-favorite

College League of Legends: Playoffs in the cardinal direction conferences continued this week and some teams punched their ticket to qualify for the national bracket, including Maryville University.

Seton Hall Athletics announced their inaugural Seton Hall NBA2K Challenge, the first Seton Hall Athletics Esports tournament. Students will compete to be the best Xbox One NBA2K player.

A Quick update of the Overwatch Collegiate Championship

The College Rocket League 2021 Spring Season will kick off on March 14 in North America with the open qualifiers. The new Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) X Spring Split will feature a new 20 team format. Each regional event will last 4 days.

The prize pool this season will be $75,000 in scholarships and other academic notorieties. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 to be eligible to play this season. After the open qualifiers, Week 1 of League Play will officially start on March 31 and April 1 with the championships taking place on May 6.

Week 3 of Collegiate Rainbow Six Siege. Streamed match of the week saw another Open League matchup between Alabama-Huntsville and Georgia Tech. This was a Best of Three Series like how all the other matches were The match was a complete sweep in favor of Alabama-Huntsville.

Activision Blizzard Collegiate has announced its collegiate Hearthstone program for the 2021 season. Starting on March 10th, the first official Battlegrounds collegiate competition will be held, placing 4 teams of 2 in direct competition with each other in each match.

Harrisburg University hosted their third annual Pennsylvania Cup, featuring teams only from Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania College of Technology, Widener University, Montgomery County Community College, Juniata College, King’s College, and Saint Francis University, HU Storm, King’s College, Temple University, Messiah University, and Robert Morris University.

Schools will be competing in Overwatch and League of Legends. The prize pool is $1,800 for Overwatch Prize pool is $1,500 for League of Legends

The first split of the CCL, College Call of Duty, is still underway, Ottawa Gold and Black are still consistently holding the top spots. But Concord University is holding the third-place spot and looking in the CCL and haven't yet been able to push past Ottowa.

After a few dull weeks in College League of Legends, things have begun to get spicy as the regional playoffs come up. Will the other regional conferences be able to compete to the same level as the North Conference?

Season 6 of Collegiate R6 started on recently on February 13th.

First streamed match of the season saw Michigan Tech vs Boise State Best of three series. Michigan Tech won 2-0. Both maps were won with a 6-2 scoreline in favor of Michigan Tech.

Other matches did take place during the week however, they were streamed on the schools' channels rather than the main Collegiate R6 channel.

New Week 4 Power Rankings: Canada’s Finest: still topping the leaderboards with Owatta Gold at #1 and Owatta Black at #2. Noysii for Owatta Black is the top player in the entire CoD league with the highest KDA in Control.

First time seeing Oregon Green on the power rankings sitting at #22. The E4 Knights jump 4 spots and place #12 in week 4, let’s see if they make it into the top 10 in week 5.

Battle of Florida. Ends in Miami. The first major upset in the power rankings happened in week 3, coming from previous ranked #16 E4Knights (University of Central Florida) as they upset previously ranked #9 FSU (Florida State University) Garnet, as they forced a round 11 in SnD to overcome the favorites getting their 6th victory to win the Miami SnD map.

Player to watch out for: Named “47” for #9 CU Ravens (Tespa Carleton) is absolutely going berserk dropping more kills than his name in a hardpoint match and proving why they belong in the top of split 1 by defeating #18 Rutgers Black 3-1.

“Sleeper pick”: #7 ILL Orange faced #14 SIUE Red in an epic match that ended in a 3-1 victory for ILL Orange to continue their undefeated streak and proving they deserve a spot in the top 10.

College League of Legends 3 Undefeated Teams

The Collegiate VR Esports League (CVRE) is coming back for Season 6. The two games in the league are Beat Saber and Echo Arena.

Echo Arena is considered by many to be the first legit VR esport, and it’s basically a lovechild between Blitzball and Tron. CVRE is also holding community events, which can be found in more detail on the CVRE Discord.

The inaugural tournament took place during Super Bowl weekend. (2-6-21) It was hosted by the NFL as part of an initiative with HBCUs to bring more people of color into the NFL and NFL-associated business. This tournament is the first ever HBCU-focused video game competition: 16 players representing 15 schools from four HBCU conferences. College Call of Duty Week 3

Ottawa Gold and Ottawa Black still hold top seeding at number 1 and 2 through week 3.

The 2020 CCL runner-up was CU Concord University, specifically CUE Maroon this year, is off to a hot 4-0 start as their captain Megaton hopes to lead them to another chance at the title.

ASU Gold was ranked #1 in week 2 of the power rankings but losing one map to NAU who snapped their sweeping streak, not the entire match they’re still 6-0, caused a drop to their rankings down to land at #22 in week 3.

ILL Orange starts 4-0. A team full of young guns and some veterans like ILL Orange could easily be seen in the top 8 again this year. Currently sitting at #7 on the power rankings, “CRIT” crushes it in every Search and Destroy map, leading the team in KDA for SnD.

The Overwatch Varsity Series Preview: The tournament is in three stages: National Swiss, Seeding Mixer, and Playoffs. National Swiss involves 10 rounds of games for all teams and every match is first to 2 wins. The top 24 teams qualify for the Seeding Mixer, a single-elimination tournament that determines the seeding value for all the teams before the playoffs. No one is eliminated from the tournament after losing, they just get assigned a lower seed.
