In the seven months since the August local government elections, the Nquthu Municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal has repeatedly failed to elect office bearers. It does not have a mayor or a speaker. This has impacted negatively on the lives of the people because no decisions regarding service delivery have be taken. The impasse is because of a tug of war between political parties and the courts regarding the seats in the municipality. And now, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs has moved in this week, to dissolve the embattled Municipality.
